First Kiss Headcannon Pt. 1:

Characters: (Gender Neutral) Reader x Tobio Kageyama

Tobio Kageyama:

Poor guy. Being socially awkward is hard.

Once he decides he wants to kiss you, he will dedicate.

He kissed before like in 3rd grade when girls would peck him on the cheek.

He most likely stayed up late at night watching “How To Kiss” videos.

If you think he didn’t practice on his volleyball at least once, you’re wrong.

He thinks he has the whole kissing this down now. Key word is think.

He’s probably very confident up until the moment it happens.

He uses too much force at first and you guys end up bruising both of your faces.

He apologizes a lot afterwards

“Tobio, you’re pretty quiet today,” You say, enjoying the warm afternoon breeze.

“Mh-hm...” comes his response.

“Something on your mind?”

“Mh-hm...”

“... Want to tell me what it is...?”

“Mm...”

“Are you even listening to what I’m saying?”

No. No he was not.

In fact he was freaking out inside because his mind was going a thousand miles per minute. For the past ten minutes he’s been planning out every outcome of what would happen when he kissed you. Would you reject him? Would you yell? Would you like it? Could he do it again?? Yet thanks to his neutral face, you were in the shadows, left to ponder what had him acting so weird.

“Are you... angry with me?” You ask quietly, eyes scanning his face carefully.

His blue eyes widen slightly as he jerks his attention over to you, “What? Of course not. Why would you think that?”

“It’s just...” You sigh, looking away for a moment, “you’ve been really quiet and you haven’t really answered my questions... I was just wondering if you were a—!”

You weren’t able to finish the sentence as you were met with a very close Kageyama once you turned back in his direction, but that wasn’t the most shocking thing. No, the most shocking thing was when a blunt pain exploded on your mouth when his lips met yours in a painful collision causing you to yelp and jerk away, hand instantly going to touch your swollen lips.

“Oh—! A-are you okay..?!” Kageyama asked hurriedly, hesitantly reaching out as if you touch you but his hands retreated just as fast. He was afraid he hurt you— well, hurt you again. He couldn’t stop the embarrassed blush that crept across his face. “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to hurt you, I was just...! I just wanted to kiss you and... and uh...” He was at a loss for words, his tongue felt thick and useless in his mouth.

“That was suppose to be a kiss? You sure you weren’t trying to bite me?” You asked with a small chuckle. Kageyama just looked down at the floor sheepishly, an awkward silence growing between you with each passing second.

Finally he mumbled, “I... I got... nervous...”

You chuckle and scoot a little closer to him. You didn’t move until he looked up and met your gaze, his cheeks still burning. You leaned forward, closing your eyes as you gently kissed his flustered lips. You could feel his breath immediately stop and his posture tense up. He rapidly blinked a few times. You were kissing him. You were kissing him. What was he suppose to do??? All his hours of YouTube studying went out the window as he tried to recall something— anything— that would help him in this moment. He settled for gently intertwining his fingers with yours as your hand brushed against his trembling knuckles.

For a few blissful moments you two stayed like that until you pulled away, leaving the King of the Court with a pouty look on his face. You took a couple seconds to appreciate how cute it was, giving his hand a small squeeze. “It’s okay. I wanted to kiss you too,” You chuckle warmly, drawing a bashful smile from Kageyama.

Yet this moment ended as Tanaka popped around the corner and shouted something about getting back to practice. You both frowned, but Kageyama signed and brought your knuckles up to his hand, giving it a quick kiss before letting go and standing up.

“We’ll talk some more later, okay? Come find me after practice,” He said, rubbing the back of his neck before flashing you a small grin. Then off he went to yell at Tanaka for spoiling the moment.

And you were left alone with throbbing lips and a flutter in your stomach.
