From Sun to Power: How Solar Panels are Energizing Canberra
Solar Pannels Canberra, the capital city of Australia, is witnessing a remarkable transformation in its energy landscape as solar panels take center stage in the city's quest for sustainability. With its sunny climate and a growing focus on renewable energy, Canberra has become a leading example of how solar panels are effectively harnessing the power of the sun to energize the city.
The journey from sun to power begins with the installation of solar panels on rooftops, commercial buildings, and open spaces throughout Canberra. These solar panels are composed of photovoltaic cells that absorb sunlight and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity through the photovoltaic effect. The abundant sunlight in Canberra ensures that the solar panels operate at peak efficiency, maximizing energy generation.
The direct current electricity generated by solar panels is then converted into alternating current (AC) electricity through inverters. This AC electricity is the standard form of power used in homes, businesses, and industries. The converted electricity is either utilized immediately on-site to power electrical appliances or fed into the electrical grid for broader consumption.
One of the remarkable features of solar panels in Canberra is their ability to contribute to grid stability and resilience. During periods of high solar energy production, the surplus electricity can be exported back to the grid, reducing the strain on the electricity network during peak demand times. In this way, solar panels act as distributed energy resources, supporting the grid and enhancing energy reliability.
Solar panels also play a crucial role in reducing the city's carbon footprint. By generating electricity from sunlight without any greenhouse gas emissions, solar panels are contributing to Canberra's commitment to combat climate change and transition to a low-carbon future. This aligns with the city's broader goals of achieving a more sustainable and environmentally responsible energy system.
Moreover, the adoption of solar panels in Canberra offers financial benefits to residents and businesses. By generating their own electricity, consumers can offset their energy bills and reduce reliance on grid electricity, resulting in long-term cost savings. Additionally, various government incentives and support programs have made solar panel installations more accessible and affordable, encouraging greater uptake within the community.

Helping Westside Ideas
@lesbenny was super nice and told me to make a post yayay
So I was thinking by the end of the game you have a ridiculous amount of caps. I would love if I could use that to do something impactful in the game like helping Westside. Giving a one off of caps wouldn’t last forever so what you gotta do is set up something to bring income in.
So you fix up Westside’s infrastructure and help pump caps into the area by paying people to revamp the buildings but that’s just the basic starting point.
Now you need to decide what its economy will revolve around.
You could go the tourism route where you make the sewers as nice as possible or even bring the Thorn above ground. You make it the focal point of Westside revolving decor and merchandise around it and bring in more famous fighters and get people talking about it. Trouble is now Westside is at risk of becoming gentrified with original inhabitants being pushed out by people wanting to capitalise on the growing popularity. There’s also a growing market for rich gamblers wanting taxidermy of animals from particularly memorable fights.
You could go into weapons or drug manufacturing with help from the Khans but depending on whether or not you strike a deal with the Fiends their aggressiveness increases dramatically and the NCR and Mr. House is pissed at you for this and it worsens fighting and drug use on the streets.
You could talk to the followers about how to use renewable energy but components are limited and expensive with a huge cost initially. You could try and use broken energy weapons from fiends but that means the solar pannels are less reliable. If you’ve helped the Boomers they might help you with solar panels as well. Helios One could also provide some broken solar panel components.
You could try agriculture in greenhouses choosing to grow different plants either for food or even for medicine like healing powder. You could sell the healing powder to caravaneers who trade with the legion. You could use the food to either help start up a food bank to feed Westside being more self sufficient (although the lack of caps means if disease hits the crops you’ve put your eggs in one basket) or sell them.
Something that could be really cool if you have an animal friend courier (using more conventional methods) or if you’ve finished Old World Blues with the help of Borous (using gene altering to help iron out aggressive strains of nightstalkers) trying to tame nightstalkers and using their eggs for the Thorn and also using them for their components like their blood and hide. Depending on how well you do with taming them you either get occasional attacks and less tourism from people who aren’t as brave as they are scared of the nightstalker or more tourism because it becomes a tourist attraction seeing nighstalkers roaming around being friendly. You could also try and tame the legendary nightstalker as the town mascot.
What do you guys think?

Was listening to recent summersale games video and you were talking about power constraints. As someone living further north, is the main reason not to get solar pannels in california the cost? It seems like they would pay for themselves fairly quickly (especially when you're running the AC units)
The main reason to not get solar panels is that a billion different companies sell them and a ton of them are scams. It's one of those "if you google info about solar panels you get a bunch of sites claiming that they're all definitely absolutely 100% legit" sort of things. One of these days I'll have the time to sit down and figure out what's what, because I really do like the idea of solar power. It's just that the industry around it sounds awful.

Midnight Sun Challenge
You don't remember much of what happened but the cruise ship sank, your lifeboat broke, and you ended up here. What a lucky life, don't you think?
The Isle of the Midnight Sun Challenge - Adapted for TS2!
First, create an island neighbourhood and decorate however you like! I like to place a few lots down too before removing all of the roads using mootilda’s Hood Replace.
I am using Sunset Island from MTS HERE
@keoni-chan has a lovely island made specifically for the challenge HERE
@vimpse has a great tutorial on building flat beach lots, HERE
Now, create your founder! You can make them however you like, but I highly reccommend making your starting sim on the shy side, since they’ll cope better with the isolation. Move them into an empty lot & you’re ready to start playing!
Generation 1 - The Drifter
This is the most restrictive generation. All sims must be banned with the Visitor Controller so that the sim lives in total isolation. To begin with, the sim will not have any real home or shelter, sleeping in hammocks, doing their business outside, the works. Use of CC at this stage is greatly encouraged, I reccommend especially the Castaway conversion pack.
The sim can survive on fishing, digging up treasure, and/or maybe using hunter/gatherer themed mods. Definitely no farming at this stage. They’re allowed to sell objects, to simulate gathering building resources!
Once they’ve ammassed enough money/resources they can build a fishing dock, and later a small house. (In my own game, I built the house after finding buried treasure, but it’ll probably depend on the initial cost of the land so idk, this will probably vary from simmer to simmer.) Even when the house is built, try to keep technology limited and that Castaway feel intact.
Eventually, a spouce can be introduced! I’ve come up with a few potential options for this:
Another castaway who washes up on the island! Requirement: a storm takes place, and something on the island is struck by lightning
Your sim fishes up a curious mermaid! Requirement: your sim obtains a gold fishing badge
Your island is raided by a marauding pirate! Requirement: find buried treasure
Your sim remains in isolation, but meets aliens one night while stargazing! Requirement: alien abduction
There’s nothing to stop you using these options in later generations, either, if you want to spice things up!
Generation 2 - The Builder
This generation begins when your heir reaches adulthood. Your sim is curious about the outside world and sets off on a voyage of discovery! You may add one vacation destination to the neighbourhood, either Maxis or a custom one. Sims can travel there whenever they like, and hunt for friends & spouces.
This generation also unlocks building larger lots - they can now be 2 floors & higher! Plus, you can move sims out of the starter home and into new lots on the island. Whether you keep the heir in the “legacy home” or move them into a new lot is up to you.
Generation 3 - The Farmer
You may now add a second vacation destination to the neighbourhood. Sims can visit both this and the previous one.
This generation also unlocks agriculture! They can now farm to their heart’s content and really live off the land.
Generation 4 - The Innovator
You may now add a third vacation destination to the neighbourhood. Sims can visit any of the three whenever they like. Since they’re going furthur afield, I’ll probably use hood deco to add a little landing strip & aeroplane to the island.
This generation also unlocks technology! They previosuly might have scavanged a little here and there but now they have full access to TVs, computers, radio, internet, whatever they like. I’ll probably give the lots a much more “modern” feel, with solar pannels, wind turbines & the like.
Generation 5 - The Future
The heir goes to college! After they graduate, they may either choose to remain on the island, or settle down someplace entirely new. You can consider the challenge complete, at any rate.
#Midnight Sun Challenge#my ruleset#ts2 challenge#it gets a lot less detailed after gen 1 because i tend to flesh these things out as i go

You idiots...
Where can I buy my cheap glass of watts? because if I need to replace a window and this only costs 10% extra I may as well figure out how to connect it to something.
Glass is expensive, but sometimes you want it. a quick search gets me this thing below.
https://low.es/2G1jvF0
as a product avaliable to a consumer.
47 dollars... alot but glass normally ain’t the cheapest. Even if you find cheap single sheets, shipping is costly. Besides... I’m paying for the frame and and the double pane outside window.
Its claimed to be 14x32 inches which probobly means that the glass that is visible is 10x28 or something. I’m assuming that only one pane is going to be solar. And my alternitive solar version of this product is going to cost 57 dollars... because 10% increased cost for whoever made the glass is not for the person buying the glass.
But either way, I’m assuming I would be paying ten extra dollars for a single pane of solar glass in my shitty tiny window. It would effectively be 10x28 inches or .18 meters squared.
Now I don’t know the real yeilds of this solar glass. Gonna assume from 1/5th a solar panel to 2/3rds a solar pannel they claim that these glass bits are more like 1.1 x as effecient as existing solar cells... which to me means there must he a catch... but oh well we can try the full range.
I found this solar panel roughly half the size of our effective shitty window.
https://bit.ly/2ThyfmU
40 dollars for this tiny panel. I want you to think about that.
10 watts... half the size... our size is 20 watts then.
The product is claimed to yeild 22 watts if a solar panel yeilds 20 (33% efficient vs 29% efficient... if solar panel is 29% efficient I doubt it is, but I would wonder how much a 29% efficient solar panel costs)
If my dumb assumptions hold true then the glass will yeild between 4 and 14 watts.
Where I live resedential energy costs 10.3 cents per kWh.
Assuming the glass produces these wattages for twelve hours a day. They produce each day.
22 watt glass -> .264 kWh $0.027
14 watt glass -> .168 kWh $0.017
4 watt glass -> .048 kWh $0.005
So for us base and bastard consumers we need to know that...
Given the 22 watt glass my purchace would pay for itself in 371 days. I can also pat themselves on the back for being a “good” person. Hopefully as time goes on, this glass will save more energy than its manufacture consumed. and this says nothing of emissions involved in manufacture and shipping.
Also art is valued for its own sake. So a new medium like this is potentially priceless.
“But am just a tumblr gremlin... what about all the large inhuman entities that actually affect the world?”
well I can think of two ways a larger entity would think of this. We got for a day.
15 cents/meter^2
9.4 cents/meter^2
2.6 cents/meter^2
Or given that industrial glass from china seems to cost 35 dollars a meter squared. (idk i just searched the internet im not a glass buyer) this 10% solar glass probobly costs 40 dollars per square meter.
Switching to solar glass for the future only would seem to cost 5 dollars/meter^2 with each square meter saving or generating 54.75 dollars a year, 34.31 dollars a year or 9.49 dollars a year. Respective to the 22 watts 14 watts or 4 watts.
That means for every 5 dollars spent they make at least 9.49 dollars given all my assumptions.
In case there are any money minded folks out there... this would appear to be at least a 189% ROI
Which should have everyone who has ever considered investing in anything cumming all over their wallets right now.
That is... if this solar glass is accurately reported, or my assumptions not completely insane.
Just so you know the assumptions I made that probobly introduce the most inaccuracies are either “sun for twelve hours a day” or “price of glass.” I don’t wish toclaim accuracy. I claim to have reproduced a method of decision making.
Now naturally figuring all this out and writing this is how I spend 2 hours of my time at 4 in the morning because I have nothing better I wish to do. Maybe if I spent all this energy and interest applying myself to non-internet floof I might go somewere... sadly the internet floofers and the people who are doing actual real things will never talk ever.
all that said.
Where can I find more information about this? it sounds too good to be true.
If I cant buy them how do I learn to make them?
if I can do neither, do these even exist?
Is this tumblr circle jerking itself again?
Apologies for making you scroll all the way past this.
Just imagine a world full of beautiful stained glass windows which also generate electricity…

I am secluded from man kind, solar pannels and a couple small wind turbines to power my water heater and such.
Chickens lay eggs and I give them all kinds of nice veggies and farmed mealworms. When one is on death's door, too old see the ground she can no longer walk on, I bring her inside for a mealworm feast by the warm fireplace. I am quick and make sure she does not suffer. She will have life everlasting when I plant a new patch of wildflowers over her remains. The bees' honey they make with her will be beautiful.
My goats eat whatever kitchen scraps are safe for them, I milk all the girls once a day to ensure their udders do not swell and cause them pain. The lone ram keeps them and the hens safe from any wild predetors that may sneak past my fences.
My single ewe lives with the goats. She gets a good sheering twice a year. I use her wool to make blankets, gloves, and hats. Anything that those curious enough to wander onto my land ask of me as long as they can pay my costs.
My regulars know better than to offer me money. My water is from a well. My electricity from the wind and sun. With my fireplace I have no need for gas heating. With nothing the governmemt would call an income they do not, can not, tax me. If they ever ask for eggs or onions I would be happy to oblige.
My regulars also learn very quickly to not bring disposeables onto my land. They know to wait for me to go into my home and retrieve one of my jars for them to fill with whatever I have requested in exchange for my goods. Normally rice, salt, flour, or oil and lye for soap making.
Once a season I take my horse into town and collect books from the library, and return my old ones from the previous season. I don't have internet but I do have a computer that stores scanned copies of all the stories, recipies, and medical journals I continue to accumulate.
Sometimes people simply arrive on my land, having heard the rumors. They bring greeting-gifts wraped in no paper, but insead cloth, or jars, or tins. If they heard to bring a gift they also have heard better than to bring any plastic onto my land. Often they bring tea or spices. Luxury items I can not grow myself living on hills that know four equal seasons. These guests are invited inside for crepes and jam.
Some younger ones try to asult my animals, claiming a shallow defense of a "prank." They come in two kinds. Those that are in so much pain they know not how to continue without passing that pain onto others. Those are the ones who I invite to stay with me. I offer them a warm bed, clean water, and fresh food, in exchange for their help around my land. Mending the fence, feeding he animals, weeding the garden. Some stay. I take good care of the children of my land. Some stay with me. Others apologize and ask to come visit now and then.
The other kind are the ones who desire to harm my animals or the children not because of their own pain but their own pleasure. The ones who harm other for their own entertainment. They I do not offer to stay. I make no talk with them of a bed, water, and food. The malicious ones I take care of in a different way.
I am quick. They will have life everlasting when I plant a new patch of wildflowers over the remains.

Door Design
So today we worked on creating some sketches of a potential door. There were so many amazing contributions. IT appeared that the door came as a gradual process, we sketched, discussed, trying out separate variations and sharing ideas until we determined a product we were all satisfied with. In the end, we determined we would use a clear polycarbonate, so that the door let in light but was no entirely see through. It would be double-paneled, and in between the two panels would be solar powered LED lighting, so that at night the door is illuminated. On top of the clear polycarbonate will be thin wood slat panneling, and on top is acrylic or aluminum letters that spell out “Blawesome.” There are two doors, one small entry way, and one larger to allow larger equipment to fit inside the barn. The two letters “b” and “l” will serve as the handles to the door. Everyone is ecstatic about the design, and it is exciting that we will be able to utilize the Elon Maker Hub as a crucial component to our project and will aid in minimizing costs. Here are some pictures of design we came up with!

Pros and Cons of Solar Energy
Every year, more and more people are choosing to invest in solar power Frederick, and it is only a matter of time before the entire state gets on board. The following is a list of the pros and cons surrounding solar energy.
Pros
The Amount of Solar Energy Generated
One of the greatest things about solar energy is how much of it can be generated in a very small span of time. In fact, it has been stated that switching to solar power can actually put the world in a surplus of energy, which has never really happened before. In general, the typical family can buy a solar pannel of 3kW and be supplied with 3,400 kWh of energy every year.
The Low Cost of Solar Energy
What makes solar energy that much more amazing is how affordable it is. Many families end up spending thousands of dollars on energy every single year, and are always required to pay for energy based services. However, with solar panels, a family is able to pay for the panels upfront and then live off of free and sustainable energy.
Good for the Environment
Solar energy is a sustainable form of energy, which means that it doesn’t require other resources to manifest itself. All in all, solar energy does not pose as many threats to the environment as electricity does.
Cons
Land Usage and Esthetics
One of the biggest issues with solar energy is how much land it uses. However, it can be argued that solar panels can be placed just about anywhere and still get their job done. Additionally, there are some people who are against putting solar panels on their roofs because of esthetic reasons, but most would agree that there are more prominent issues than esthetics.
The Use of Hazardous Materials
One of the most alarming issues concerning solar panels are the materials used to create them. Solar panels might help the environment by reducing the need for electricity, but the manufacturing of the panels do pose threats of their own.
Ever since the scientists of the world realized how beneficial it would be to switch to solar powered energy, the world has begun to follow their lead. In the last couple of decades, many different countries have begun to invest billions of dollars in solar power, and it is only a matter of another couple decades before electricity becomes a thing of the past. While solar power is definitely a step in the right direction, there are still groups of people who are unhappy with the change and believe it to be a bad idea. However, it has yet to be proven if solar energy is really as bad as they say.
