Organic matter is a vital component of soils and serves as a reservoir of nutrients and water, reduces compaction and surface crusting, increases water infiltration, and slows erosion. _ Erosion and soil health is of major concern, with world soils begin lost at alarming rates. Physics! Soil Bulk Density (SBD) is all soil physics and is an indicator of soil compaction. It also reflects the soil’s ability to function for structural support, water and solute movement, and soil aeration. High SBD may cause restrictions to root growth and poor movement of air and water through the soil - meaning plants won't be happy. A way to decreased SBD is by adding organic residues.
