For a Slum Rehabilitation Project, 1700 Shanties Razed in Bandra West, Mumbai

The builder for a high-rise tower and slum redevelopment project in Bandra West demolished almost 1,700 shanties along railway tracks during the course of the past two days.

For the past few decades, the multi-storey shanties known as Shastri Nagar has bordered Bandra station's platform 1.

Bulldozers and cranes began razing down the shanties early this week, clearing an area that covered six acres. In order to help 1,400 eligible slum households get back on their feet, multiple skyscrapers will be constructed on the vacant property. Raja Rahebar Khan, a former corporator from the area, stated that the slum authority must decide how to rehabilitate the remaining 300 households.

In the sale component, Pioneer, the developer, will also construct a tower. Furthermore, a road will be built to provide direct access to the Western Express Highway from the west end of Bandra station.

Since 2002, the rehabilitation project had been put on hold. Khan and the locals had gone to court to ask for permission to extend their contracts under the new slum scheme, which provided them with more incentives.

Once the eligible families moved out of their shanties, the developer began paying them rent on a monthly basis for transit accommodations.

The slum dwellers had previously been involved in a dispute with the government regarding their rehabilitation following many demolition orders that BMC had sent them so that it could expand the road.

Although the slum dwellers and the builder had signed the agreement in 2002, the government has modified the criteria for eligibility during the past 20 years. The builder agreed to sign a new contract in accordance with the new regulations after the inhabitants took the matter to court—the matter ultimately reached the Supreme Court.

I am talking about the number of grants available in different universities to each department, and how literature has, on average, 2 or 3 per year, while computer science, information technology, engineering, or any number of "hard" sciences had, on average, 30-60. I went to a small university.

I am aware that degrees like physics, biology, and pure mathematics are ignored in STEM in favor of their profit-producing siblings. I am also aware that a physicist is a more "respectable" position than "literature professor."
