Enhanced Services to Support UK Armed Forces Overseas
Mitie Defence Limited has been awarded a significant £150 million contract by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) to provide essential services for the UK Armed Forces stationed in Germany and Italy. This new contract encompasses hard facilities management, including maintenance, repairs, and servicing, as well as limited soft facilities management, such as waste disposal and laundry services. The contract represents the third addition to the DIO's Overseas Prime Contracts program, following contracts for Gibraltar and sites in Cyprus.   Improving Facilities for Military Personnel and Families The upcoming contract, set to take effect next spring, will span an initial seven-year period, fostering the support of local supply chains in both Germany and Italy. Minister for Defence Procurement, James Cartlidge, emphasizes the crucial role of such contracts in enabling the Armed Forces to conduct their vital work in optimal facilities, covering essential needs like laundry, waste disposal, and accommodation. The Overseas Prime Contracts program aims to deliver improved services, better value for money, quicker repairs, and reduced bureaucracy, ultimately ensuring a safer and more resilient infrastructure for service personnel.   Commitment to Service Excellence Mitie Defence Ltd. is set to take the lead in providing these crucial facilities and services, extending its longstanding relationship with the DIO. The company's Managing Director, Brian Talbot, reaffirms their dedication to supporting the UK Armed Forces in their overseas operations, maintaining critical infrastructure, and ensuring top-notch accommodation facilities. The contract will introduce new asset management technology to enhance service families' living experience, prioritizing their needs and delivering an exceptional standard of service while adapting to changing requirements over the contract term.   Streamlined and Collaborative Approach The Overseas Prime Contracts have been meticulously designed to align with current industry standards, promoting increased collaboration between the DIO and its suppliers to cater to specific site requirements more effectively. The adoption of an integrated software system will facilitate seamless information sharing and more efficient processes. Performance targets have been set to maintain a high standard of repairs, ultimately reducing the need for repeat visits and delivering increased value for money.   Future Contracts and Focus on Service Families As the next phase unfolds, the DIO plans to award the next Overseas Prime Contract, focusing on soft facilities services in Cyprus later this year. Additionally, a new total facilities management contract for the South Atlantic Islands is anticipated in the summer of 2024. The dedication to service families and the UK Armed Forces' well-being remains at the core of these strategic contracts, ensuring that military personnel has the right facilities and infrastructure wherever they are stationed, supporting their critical missions while maintaining a high quality of life for them and their families.   Sources: THX News & Defence Infrastructure Organisation.
