Ours Soft Dark Stucky x Omega Reader
Soft Dark Alpha Stucky x Omega Reader
Warning: Stalking, kidnapping, drugging, confinement, dark themes, Non Con, man handling, threats, mentions of past abuse,
Summary: Day by Day Both Bucky and Steve feel like something is missing in their lives that is until they meet you.
You work as a RN at the nearby hospital, you were just leaving an agonizing fourteen hour shift, dead tired,
You were walking past a store, where there were TV’s you could watch from outside of the window,
The news was on,
“This is Becky reporting from Stark tower where in a few minutes Alpha Tony Stark is going to make his big announcement.” The news lady says,
You stand there with your arms crossed, a lot of people on the street were crowding around as well,
The Alpha’s in Stark tower are a big deal to everyone so when they make an announcement it’s normally a big uproar
Tony walks out to the stage,
“Good afternoon everyone, as everyone may have been aware, the decrease in Omega’s in the past decade have declined drastically.” He says
It was no secret that Omega’s appear less and less each year, in fact you read in the paper that there is 1 out of 5% that anyone would come across one, You were in fact one, but you take suppressants and wear a special perfume to mask the smell,
“So as of today, I have signed a bill passing that if you are an Omega you must register, due to the decrease in our species this law is in effect as of today.” Tony says
You eyes widen,
“We also have a stations in each clinic to ensure you can find a place to register.” He says
This made your blood boil, You didn’t like Alpha’s to begin with, Your father and brother’s made sure of that, always talking down to you like you were nothing compared to them, abusing you any chance they got, telling you, that you were nothing but a tool a mutt that your only purpose in life was to breed,
And here is another example of how much you hate and yet fear alpha’s they think they can control Omega’s,
“If any Omega’s fail to comply we will have no choice but to place you in a special program.” Tony says
“That will be all thank you.” He says walking off stage,
You shake your head and make your way to your apartment, but you couldn’t help this feeling that someone was watching you, You stop in your tracks, to look around listening, smelling, but there were too many scents, you brush it off as fatigue and paranoia.
You finally enter your apartment, it wasn’t much given the salary to make, barely scraping by, but it was the only way, the only way to avoid detection not just from Alpha’s but your family that has been on the hunt for you since you ran away when you were sixteen, you are now twenty one, but they still continue to hunt you like an animal,
All because you are an Omega,
After taking your suppressant and showering, you are laying in bed when a smell catches your attention, It smelled like pine, and cinnamon, you sit up quickly, it wasn’t your father or brother’s but you don’t notice the smell which causes you to panic,
You peek through the curtains not seeing a single person, you make sure everything is locked,
You peek out the peep hole at your door, no one,
You feel your heart rate slow down hoping you were just imagining it,
Bucky just couldn’t believe his luck, he was on his way to the tower, when a smell caught his attention, sure it was very faint but his sense of smell is stronger than most Alpha’s it smelled like vanilla with a hint of cedar
“Omega...” He whispers
He finds a small petite woman, with long dark hair and green eyes, she was beautiful, but by the smell she’s definitely on something she shouldn’t be on,
He opens his phone to call Steve as he follows her from a distance,
“Steve, Your not going to believe what I found.” He says with a smirk on his lips,
You didn’t go to work for a few days, you were getting paranoid, the smell kept getting stronger as if someone was in your apartment or on the fire escape at the window,
But your boss called you today, telling you if you didn’t come in today you were fired,
So you cautiously leave your apartment, just as you were locking the door an arm wrapped around your neck, with a hand covering your mouth,
You elbow the attacker causing him to grunt, but he didn’t loosen his grip,
“Shhh, sweetheart, we’re here now.” You hear a man’s voice whisper in your ear,
suddenly there was a jab of a needle in your upper arm, you watch as the liquid is injected in your arm,
“Everything will be alright.” Another voice says
you feel your limbs give way, and your vision blur slowly slipping into darkness,
Bucky catches you as you fall, picking you up bridal style, your head against his chest,
Steve moves your dark hair out of your face,
“She’s beautiful.” Steve says
“Told you.” Bucky says
“She’s light though.” Bucky says again,
“It’s alright she has us now.” Steve says placing his hand on Bucky’s shoulder,
Bucky nods, as they both smile down at you

Series masterlist
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
He was watching you again. Inside his car, on his lunch break, slurping from his milkshake as his eyes never left your form. Your head was turned down, watching the pavement as you moved, yet you seemed to be aware where everyone else was because you never bumped into anyone. He noticed that about you. How your body moved almost fluently away from others. You didn't like to be touched. You flinched if someone did.
You were alone a lot. Listening to the noises around you, or he would sometimes hear you murmur to yourself. Sometimes you made strange noises if you were excited. He knew what they said about you.
They thought you were weird.
He didn't mind. Everyone talked about him too. Granted, he was a bit shady sometimes, with his secret businesses here and there, but it was something he had in common with you. Both of you fell outside of what was appropriate.
Of course, he was the sheriff, so no one dared to say it to his face. But they did to you. He had watched you for years. With your pretty hair, and that body…
He shuffled in his seat uncomfortably. You always had an effect on him.
He loved your eyes, although you barely look up to him. You do that. You glanced past people, or talked with your face turned a different way. Some people looked at you funny when you did.
But he knows why. Your parents told him once. When you got dared into doing something naughty. You didn't like it, but told him you had said you would do it before they told you what you were supposed to do. And you needed to keep your promises.
He talked to you sternly about how wrong it was of you, and you sat there with tears in your eyes. Head down. Like you had committed the worst crime. You were a good girl. Your parents told him that. It wasn't your fault. It was those kids. They thought it was funny. School talked to them. They left you alone. But you didn't make many friends.
Too different, too quiet, or too loud. You didn't say the right things, you didn't like the right things. You were too honest.
He liked that about you. He didn't need to wonder what you thought. You weren't two faced like all the other bitches. Who smiled at him in hope for favors, or in hope he would turn his eyes away from what they were doing. You were, you.
When you were alone, or thought you were anyway, your shoulders relaxed and he could sometimes see you smiling. Most times you would if you spotted an animal. Talking to it, like it was your friend. And you were good with kids. Really good. They flocked to you and you easily handled them. You didn't like sudden noises, and you were very clear about that, and they listened to you.
That's something people did like about you, they had no problem ditching their kids on you. You were a natural.
It was one of the things he noticed first about you. That drew him towards you. Your natural motherly instincts. He knew you would do excellent with your own. And the idea of you, one or 2 kids by the hand, belly swollen with another, made him rock hard each time.
God, you would be so pretty. He imagined your children; babies with brown hair, maybe a cleft in their chin, like his. The family Bodecker. You, all soft and sweet smelling. A ring on your finger. It made him come so swiftly once he touched himself.
He was happy no one snatched you up. They all couldn't look past your different behavior and see the gem underneath. They were blind to your qualities. What fools. But it worked in his favor though. Such a good, sweet girl. All ripe for the picking.
You were growing and seemed to not be aware of him. That was okay, he was fine with letting you have this time for yourself. Just out of college, young women needed to find their own way. He didn't want you to feel like you missed out on everything once he married you. That led some housewives to turn a little crazy, he saw it all the time, married at 18 or even 16 at times, high school lovers, and by the time baby number 2 was on the way, they looked worn out and disappointed in life.
Not you though. You finished school, you had a nice job, good parents. He gave you that time. He never was far away though. Watching you. Making sure you stayed out of trouble. Or trouble didn't find you. There weren't many boys to approach you, but those with eyes did, those who were too eager to be bothered with your quirkiness. He made sure to scare them off. He didn't need the competition.
He had a good job, a job that gave him power over this town, a nice house. He could afford a family. When the time came, he could convince your parents he was a good match. But most important was he needed to convince you.
📖
You walked into the library to return your books and pick up new ones. You came here at least once a week, often twice, as you loved reading. It was the time that you could disappear in a story and live a life you were never going to get. Experiencing all the emotions and adventures safely from your own home. Romance, and travels, fighting dragons or being a ruling Queen. In real life you liked things simple, but in your head you were free to do whatever you wanted. In your head people liked you. You belonged.
Lately you got very into fairytales again. Consuming every book you could find, rereading classics, daydreaming about the magic that was both wonderful and scary. The Alpha King, and Omega and the false mate, Sleeping Beta…they were all lovely stories and you couldn't get enough. You walked through the rows upon rows of books, feeling calm and like you were amongst friends. Here you were safe. Here you were liked.
Your hands occasionally picked up a book and read the cover, lost in thought. You didn't even notice the presence next to you, until a voice shook you out of your thoughts.
“Excuse me.”
You froze and looked up. Sheriff Bodecker looked down at you.
“Oh”, you said, stepping away.
He chuckled and shook his head. “I didn't mean for you to leave. I just wanted to grab this book.”
You watched him as he picked up a faded green book. He flipped through the pages. You hadn't expected him to read. You scolded yourself after the thought. You didn't know him. It's just that…he didn't seem the type. You heard stories about him. They said he liked the booze and he loved the ladies who gave it away for free. He had always been pleasant if you ever saw him, devoted to his work, but gossip still followed him.
Gossip was tricky, though. For years rumors went around that you were stupid. That you were rude. That you were mentally challenged. They didn't understand you. And you honestly often didn't understand them. Luckily your parents loved you and stood up for you. They might not always understand but they didn't punish you the way other parents would have. They didn't make you feel bad for not always looking them in the face. Or for being blunt and too honest. How your head was in the clouds at times. Or how people overwhelmed you sometimes. But other people, they didn't get it. And they didn't like what they didn't get.
You watched everyone around you making friends and falling in love. Easily getting through events you struggled with. They got married, and started a family. It was difficult at times, to realize you wouldn't have that, but eventually you accepted it. You were comfortable with your life. You had your family, and one or two acquaintances, and you were okay. It was nice being alone. Quiet. When you were alone, no one expected something of you.
You watched out of the corner of your eye how he assessed the book, before he looked at you again. “Do you know if it's any good?”
You glanced at the title like you had to think about it. “It's a little boring. But I don't know what you're looking for.”
“Just a little something to entertain me in the evenings. I was never much of a reader, but I thought why not read a book once in a while instead of always putting the telly on, ya know?”
You nodded. “What genre are you interested in? Action? Or mystery.”
“Romance.”
You blinked. “Romance,” you quietly repeated. You're eyes gliding past the titles of books and thinking to yourself.
“I don't mind it being a little…naughty, might motivate me even more to be honest,” he chuckled.
Your cheeks heated, but you tried not to show any signs of your discomfort. A heated romance. Of course you could list a few, but it felt awkward sharing that with him. You hummed softly under your breath, more out of nerves than anything, but you grabbed a book eventually. “A little naughty, and definitely romance,” you told him.
He hummed and turned the book in his hands. “Thank you, I didn't know where to start.”
“The librarians are happy to help if you can't find anything.”
“Yes, I'm sure they are, but you seem like you know more about this stuff.”
Maybe you did. Maybe it was easier to approach a visitor than the strict ladies running this place? You continued your search, but he did not leave.
“Don't you have enough books?”
You frowned. How could anyone have enough books? And why was he criticizing you? “I like reading.”
He laughed. “ No, I can see that, but do you really read all these in a week?”
“No. Sometimes I read them in a few days.”
“Oh, really. Okay. That's impressive. I really need to catch up if I were to compete with you.”
“It's not a competition. You can read how you want.”
“Oh I know, I was just joking.”
It wasn't a very good joke in that case. “Oh.” You thought, then replied. “Do you need anything more?”
There was silence, then he answered awkwardly. “No, you helped enough.”
You nodded.
He said your name quietly and when he didn't continue, you looked to the side at him. Your eyes locked and you blinked before you looked away.
“Tell your parents hello from me, will you?”
You nodded. You would, if you remembered.
He walked away and you were left feeling a little weird about the whole conversation. Sheriff Bodecker, reading a romantic book. It seemed a little silly. But maybe he was a little lonely. He was unmarried and didn't seem to be in a hurry to get settled.
He asked for something a little naughty, though. If he wanted anything naughty he should've gone to a different section of the library. They had a few of those, although most people didn't dare to pick them up and give the ladies anything to gossip about. Sheriff Bodecker, with a naughty book. You smiled to yourself. It would be the talk of town.
🤎
You wrapped your scarf around your neck, it was a little chilly today. Maybe you were just tired. It had been a long day at work today, your hands were cramped from all the typing, and your colleagues had left you feeling a little upset. Normally you tried to not listen to their chatter and ignore if they were ever negative about you. But today…they had stood a little nearer and you had more trouble filtering their voices.
They had talked about Marcie, who had found herself a beau. If only it had stayed about Marcie, it would have been fine. But they had looked over at you and pretended to lower their voices.
“Spinster”, they had used. They giggled slightly during it. You pretended not to see them staring at you. Or how they didn't care if you heard it.
“She’s never going to find anyone, I mean did you hear her talk about the different office chairs to mr. Johnson? One would think she had to sit on spikes.
You bit your lip. You did not want to cry in front of them. They had changed the chairs two days ago, the old ones too worn out to be pleasant. But you had liked them. You were used to them. And it felt like an old friend had been ripped away from you. So you had talked to your boss if he could make an exception, if you could keep yours, and store the new one. But of course he hadn’t wanted to. And you admittedly got a little upset. Word got out, or maybe they heard you. You had cried on the toilet, but tried very hard to gather yourself and continue like nothing was wrong. It didn’t matter. They knew. And they thought you were crazy.
And now they kept bringing other things up in their conversations. Like they enjoyed your discomfort.
You did your job well, however, so you were pretty sure if you laid low for a while, mr. Johnson wouldn’t fire you. You always made sure to finish all your work, even if you had to stay longer. Got the job done.
But now, at the end of the work day, you felt exhausted. It was tiresome keeping up pretense. The constant noise of the workplace around you. A short break to try and relax and be alone wasn't enough. You knew maybe things would be easier if you sat with them and told them things you heard, so they could gossip about someone else for once. But you didn’t like them. And they were too much. You needed your break to rest before getting back to work. You often sat outside on a bench alone, or took a walk.
You took a deep breath. Tonight you were going to read your new book, and ask your daddy if he wanted to play the piano. He didn’t do it as often as he used to, but you always enjoyed his music. He would do it for you, you knew it.
As a single Omega, you still lived with your parents. It was common to do so. You couldn’t live alone with your designation and it didn’t seem like you would ever move out and get your own home to look after. Your parents were disappointed, no doubt, but they always assured you they loved you, and that it would be nice in their old day to spend it with the three of you. You wondered if they had a different child than you, if they had wanted to get another. Someone easier to handle.
You walked past the shops, occasionally looking through the windows. You liked window shopping. Seeing all the new things on display, even if you didn’t buy much. You didn’t need it. But sometimes you saw something pretty and pondered if you should get it. You should buy a new dress. Most of the ones you had were getting a little old. But they were so comfortable and new dresses felt a little tight and rough. Perhaps your mother would buy some fabric and sew one for you. She knew your tastes.
A car honked next to you and you startled. When you looked around with a beating heart you noticed the car of the sheriff. He had rolled down his window and called out to you.
“Sorry, little lady, didn’t mean to scare you. I saw you walking and thought maybe you wanted a ride home?”
You blinked. A ride with the sheriff. You had never done that. “I’m fine walking.” You replied and tried to smile.
“You just look tired, is all. And it is going to rain soon.”
Was it? You didn’t feel much like getting wet. Still, this was weird. Different. What were you even going to say to him?
He opened the door from the inside though, clearly expecting you to get in, and you didn’t want to be rude. He meant well.
You clambered in, fixed your dress and your hair.
“Long day?” he mentioned. “You look tired.”
“Yes.” you answered.
“I get that, I’ve been busy since 5 this morning myself.” he sighed. “Got a call in for a robbery. Those damn Callen boys always stealin’ them chickens from the Bookers farm. Not exactly the most exciting job.”
You blinked, thought of how to reply. “Did you get them back?”
He chuckled. “Well some of ‘em. They ate at least two, but I arranged for them to work a few weeks at the place to pay them back. And I'll make damn sure they're going to show up and do the work.”
You nodded. The Bookers were cheapskates, but a theft was a theft, and you were sure they enjoyed the free labor. Those chickens couldn't be worth that much.
“You look nice today,” he mentioned suddenly.
You looked down at your dress. A little frayed around the edges. Your hair must've been less than proper because you tended to play with it if you were in thought. Maybe he was being nice. “Eh, thank you,” you mumbled.
He hummed. “That dress is a nice color.”
“Blue is my favorite,” you blurted out. You wore red today, you didn’t know why you said it.
He chuckled. “Is that right? Well I love blue.”
Your eyes looked anywhere but him, at the passing buildings and bushes. What else were you going to say? It was polite to talk back, your mother had told you. Ask about something!
“Ehm, this is a nice car,”
He turned to look at you again, not keeping his eyes on the road and you swallowed. “Well, it comes with the job, but it does its work.”
You nodded.
“Do you know how to drive?”
“Oh no. No, no. I do not.”
“I could teach you.” he offered, and your heart rate increased.
“No!...no. I don't think I can, I get nervous.”
“Well everyone gets nervous the first time, but you’ll learn soon enough, you’re a clever girl.”
You blinked at him. No one had ever called you clever before. You weren’t stupid, you werent, but no one thought you were particularly bright. “I get nervous.” you told him firmly.
He hummed “Well alright, If you change your mind, I'm more than willing.
“I don't mind walking.” you told him.
“Yeah, I see you walking around. You like looking at things don’t you?”
You looked down, ashamed, but his finger lifted your chin. You startled at the contact.
“Wasn't mocking you. I just see you sometimes. Gotta keep an eye on the crowd to make sure nothing happens, part of the job, I can’t help it. So I see you walking and befriending the neighbors cats.”
“Oh.” You didn't know what to think of this. Being watched. You always felt like you were. “I like cats.”
“I like them too. They’re a little feisty. You got one at home?”
You shook your head. “No, my parents don’t want one.”
“I was thinking about getting one. Might be nice to come home to something, you know? House is all empty.”
You understood. You’re parents rules, however, nothing you could do about it.
He sighed “ Yeah…. gets real lonely for a man by himself. You got someone waiting on ya?”
“Eh no. No, no one.” You felt nervous. You knew it was common for a girl your age to settle, or have settled already. It was embarrassing to admit.You had never even kissed before.The thought of it made you anxious though, How to even do that with a tongue, and how to move? It seemed mighty complicated.
“Me neither,” he admitted. “It’s a hard job, and not everyone can deal with being the wife of a sheriff. I’d treat her right, though. Yessir. I’d be a good husband. For the right woman. I always wanted that. A house, a wife, some kids. A nice meal when I get home…”
You hummed, like he had done before.
"You can cook?”
Your eyes moved rapidly over the car interior. “Why, yes?” it came out as a question.
“Yeah I expected you to. You’re a good girl after all. Momma raised you right.”
You felt warmth shoot through you. You didn’t know why. He was being nice. And you weren’t used to that. You actually were a pretty good cook. And you liked doing it. Relieving your mother from the hard work running a household was. And showing you cared. You know you weren’t always good with that. Often absorbed in your own head and your own feelings. So cooking was something you could do.
“Would love to have a home made meal again. It’s been so very long.”
You nodded.
He eyed you. And as the silence lingered he tsked. “Well, who knows, maybe someone will invite me someday.”
“Oh. Yes. I'm sure,” you were quick to agree. It would be nice for him. Someone cooking. Maybe Miss Oleson would, the woman was all alone and about 70, she probably would love the company.
You would ask her, so he wouldn't feel embarrassed. Miss Oleson would watch you sometimes when you were younger, and she was kind to you. She always gave you candy even if your parents had told her not too. You were fond of her.
You arrived at your house soon and you got out. He leaned towards the window again.
“If you want, I can come pick you up again tomorrow.”
You blinked. Why? Was it going to rain again tomorrow?
“You don’t have to.”
“It’s my pleasure.” he grinned. “Unless i’m being called away, but if so, I’l call you.”
“I don’t have a phone.” You eyed the laces of your shoes.
He laughed. “No silly, at your office, I can call the company.”
“Oh. Yeah that would work. I guess.”
“That’s settled then. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Okay.” you mumbled and turned to walk towards the door.
As you heard him leave behind you, you suddenly remembered you hadn’t said goodbye, or thanked him. You felt your cheeks heat. You were supposed to thank someone for helping. You messed up again. Tomorrow, when he picked you up, you would make sure to thank him then. Maybe he wouldn’t think you rude anymore. And maybe you should find some questions to ask him about. So he didn’t ask you weird ones when there was silence.
You hung up your coat at the door, suddenly smelling a nice scent coming off it.
The fabric had absorbed some of his that lingered in the car. You sniffed carefully and then reared back in shame. It was kind of improper to just smell someone. You only did that to someone you knew better. Like family, or…or a suitor.
Still, the scent lingered in your nose as you walked away, and it was pleasant enough for you to feel a little lighter for the rest of the evening.

Enchanted, S. Rogers and C. Kent.
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: In a world where Omega's were scant and decent alpha's even more so, you think you're one in a million to be in a relationship with Alpha's who not only take care of your every whims and need, but also love and respect you unconditionally. However, your marital bliss of two years is interrupted by the concept of ‘true mates’.
Pairings: Steve Rogers x Reader x Clark kent.
Warnings: Cursing, Angst.
CHAPTER THREE
Tumblr media
“Wake up, buttercup!” Natasha cheerily exclaims, clapping her hands together after successfully pulling back the curtains to let the sunshine in your desolate quarters. You groaned sleepily turning your head towards the other direction, until she peeled the covers back from you.
“Uh-uh, we are not letting you sleep in the bed for days on end again.” the red head tuts, pulling your limp arm and ushering you towards a seating position. “Today, we're going out and walking on sunshine vampy.”
“No. Let me wallow in doubt and sadness.” you whine, eyes shut. You were still in dreamland, nestled in the covers with the ac on full blast— and you could literally spend days in the bed it feels like. You were always so sleepy and tired.
Part of you blamed it on over-thinking. Your brain must have been fueling up for all of your racing thoughts. Or it was only during sleep that you weren't thinking anything.
“Can't. The sun is up and the day is to be conquered. Where's your fucking spirit?”
“Oh wait! I remember where i left it, let me check.” you wiggled, making her hold loosen before you dived back into the sheets.
Comfy. So so nice.. you rub your face in Clark's pillow, sighing out in bliss. Just as you were about to doze off again..
“Nat!” you bellow, feeling yourself get lifted off the bed and towards the en suite.
“We're going out and fucking things up dollface! No excuses!”
☁️
“I feel like richard gere and you're my bitch- well, technically not one, but you get my point.” Nat nonchalantly puts down the menu, staring at you from across the table.
There was an astounding array of shopping bags placed neatly along the floor, both of you going haywire on different shops and swiping daddy's plastics, and only when you calmed down did you realize how much clothes you bought.
You'd feel bad, yet both Steve and Clark had gaslighted you early on that it isn't real money princess. So you went on your merry way each time and thought as if you were only playing pretend.
“Why can't i be a bitch?” you mutter, inbetween bites of garlic bread, basically inhaling the small tray of decadent pastry. It was crunchy, and soft on the inside with hints of melted cheese. Ohmy, you wanted to gobble it up.
Nat looked at you as if you were stupid. “Because.. you're rainbows, and butterflies and shiny shimmering glitter.”
You made a face, “You're saying i'm made of nice things? Aww, naty.”
“Yes, and if i put you in my mouth, you'll melt like a cotton candy.” she flippantly voices, which made both of you stare at eachother— silent and intent gazes, before bursting into laughter. Giggling at the unknown double entrede.
“Hello, madamme.” Your head snaps towards a slightly familiar older man decked in a pristine suit, an easy yet flattering grin on his face. “How are you finding your lunch? Has anyone taken your order yet?”
“Oh, hey ben. It's pleasant, as it always is. We've actually just placed our orders,” You smile in response.
“Oh that's great! and you're here with Mrs. Barnes, i see.” He politely nods to the red head. “Will you be joining Mr. Kent at the second floor? He's got an entourage, but i doubt it's concerning business. It appears to be more casual.”
“Is that so? I mean, Clark did say something about a lunch. Who's he with?” Your mouth moves faster than you could think.
In reality, the only thing you've recieved from both of them were casual goodmornings and update as to where they were. Steve was in France, Clark said he was in Russia. Atleast, that was what they told you.
“The usual, madamme. A couple of security details, and a new secretary. She seems to be new, atleast from who Mr. Kent usually keeps in his payroll.” The host narrates, thinking nothing of it. Everyone was already well aware of how much you meant to your husbands— to the point where nobody would bat an eye if they were seen out with another woman. Nobody could possibly believe they would replace you.
And you hated to jump into conclusions, but why would he need to lie?
Your heart wanted to lurch out of your chest. Nat's clearing of her throat made you snap out of your spiral; and you schooled your features back into a cheery expression once again.
“Well, if Mr. Kent wouldn't mind our presence.”
☁️
“.. I was actually a scholar of Kent foundation. Can you believe it? Our fates, so intertwined. It was really as if we were meant to be.” Lois gushes, leaning over in her chair, looking at him as if she were about to jump his bones.
Frankly, it made him quite uncomfortable. Nothing about this - if you could even call it a date, it was more like a formal gathering or a meet of sorts that he was inclined to arrange- felt natural, nor right.
Clark wanted to rely on his base instincts for direction but he couldn't grope for a shred of connection. Not even a silver of fondness, which is strange, considering thag they were supposed to be compatible— the person oppsite of him bore the genetic compatibility, as per several tests.
Though, what she said piqued his interest. “Which part of town would you say?”
“Upper east side,” Lois responds. Clark shifted in his seat, a smile making it's way to his features which held a considerable sway in her judgement. He asks a few more questions in that honeyed voice of his, to which she absently replied at.
“Huh, would you look at that.” He leans back in his seat, gears in his head turning but he maintained an easy smile on his face, mirth dancing in the darkened blue of his eyes.
“How about i permanently move your residence in, say, one of my towers?” Lois' breath hitched at the proposal.
“I-i mean, sure if that's what you want.” she gathered herself for a while, before remembering to act bashful and blinking up at him rapidly, smiling coyly. “I'm yours afterall. Your mate.”
You can hear the jeers and the laughter, staying through the conversation, until you found yourself feeling literal pangs of hurt in your chest. Fuck. What does all of this mean?
“Let me kill this son of a whore,” Nat was about to angrily storm inside, but you managed to stop her, putting an arm out.
“Don't even bother.” you murmur, finding it hard to find your own voice. At that point, you felt almost numb— as if your brain was shutting down from what you've heard, finding it difficult to process at all.
You woke up with the hope of your marriage still intact. Thinking, rather stupidly, that this was just a rather difficult hurdle in your marriage. Thinking that perhaps, this was all just a big misunderstanding like what you were repeatedly assured of.
But this was beyond even your wildest dreams. Nothing made sense. It was as if your world was crashing down on you all at once. True mates? It mocks you repeatedly.
Steve and Clark told you that you were the one. You believed them, because why would they lie to you? They had no reason to!
To get in your pants, silly. The rational, or was it pessimistic part of you said.
You blinked away the tears, turning around, and indulging in the manical urge that clouded all your rationality— run.
So you fled.

Brat Taming: Part 13
A/N: Smut is prevalent in the chapter, with overstimulation, vibrators, teasing and edging, domination/submission and punishments. Please don’t read it if it makes you uncomfortable
Ari had certain expectations when it came to making his office run seamlessly, as he should have, and there was an incredible amount of tenacity to his patience. He was not a man who could easily be angered by desperate attempts to get him to react unless there was a direct threat to the people he loved and wanted to protect.
It was one of his traits as an alpha that separated him from what seemed like the other 50% of alphas who seemed to make up the designation.
It seemed as if at least half of their designation had the same distinctive abilities to be good alphas without having to rely on traits that could have been deemed toxic. Ari and Steve, even Ransom if he had tried to put in more effort to not be such an arrogant prick to other people, were all good alphas at the root of themselves.
Both of the older alphas had deeply embedded protective tendencies, an ability to understand and compassionately grasp the workings of an omega’s hindbrain without reducing them to their basest selves.
Ransom was cocky, he was an arrogant and rich alpha who could have had anything or anyone handed to him on a silver platter. He was born with a silver spoon shoved up his ass and that had damaged his ability to deny the toxic traits that made omegas want to settle down with the alpha.
However like Ari & Steve believed, Ransom only had to meet the right omegas who wouldn’t immediately cater and submit to his whims, but rather they would try to push him to his limits and make him back down. It was what made you and Jake everything those alphas needed.
It was your fire and your ability and nature to be bratty that drove every one of your alphas crazy with need. Your tendency as omegas to feel comfortable enough to push back against the alphas was both embraced and revelled in.
They enjoyed their omegas brattiness, the back and forth that aided the bonds that were being built was a necessity to have an unbreakable relationship.
However patient Ari was, and however indifferent he could have been, he had found your punishment just as invigorating and addictive as your attitude was.
He was just waiting for it, just waiting for the opportunity to punish you as a good alpha would have. The alphas knew, all of them had been aware, that you and Jake were dealing with the sensations of being marked and mated.
They had been well aware that you both were settling in your bratty moods and with a common agreement between you, albeit made through your natural bond as best friends and lovers and had kickstarted the punishments that were befitting for both of you.
With you at work in the office making comments under your breath about Ari and his first assistant degrading the choice to have someone who was so aggravating without trying, had incited his decision to punish you.
Normally this patient alpha would have let you mumble every comment under the sun about his first assistant who he knew could be difficult to deal with, however today Ari couldn’t let it slide.
Whether it was his unwillingness to go through a teleconference knowing you were outside of his office wearing a skirt that was far too easy to slide up your thighs and a piece of cloth obscuring your sweet little cunt from his view, or whether it was his vivacious lust and hunger, it had all ended at the same conclusion.
Ari had stepped out of his office, pausing to listen to you muttering your annoyance at both your boss and the woman you claimed was the wicked bitch of the West.
He had watched you while leaning against the frame of his door, his arms crossed over his chest and his chin tucked as his eyes had become engrossed with thick seams of desire. It was reflective of his need for you, his dire hunger that aided him to make a demand that caused hair at the nape of your neck to stand and your eyes to grow wide.
“Y/N, my office. Now.” The command was sent from his mouth, and you were immediately aware of how rooted he was in his alpha hindbrain.
He had seen your lips part with a potential argument, a rebuttal that he wished you would’ve let fall from your lips. He wished you would have fired back with some kind of aggravated response to Ari’s demand, earning another punishment that you didn’t know was coming.
It could’ve been a demand that could have been negated, or at least an attempt could have been made, however, Ari was pleased to see you standing immediately to follow him toward his office.
“Is there anything you need of me, Mr. Levinson?” His first assistant had already started to rise to her feet, overeager to please him in any manner despite already being in a steady and comfortable relationship with her alpha.
It was after Ari had settled a hand on your back to lead you into his office, to the punishment waiting for you, that he had looked over his shoulder with a controlled half-smirk on his face.
His first assistant was not guarded with her disdain for you and your role in the office, especially since you had been sleeping with the boss and getting away with it. However, Ari was just as displeased about her attitude toward you and had already been making plans to have another reasonable offer sent her way for a new job.
“Go home, you have the rest of the afternoon off.” Ari had closed the door without allowing another potential argument and just as quickly locked the door behind him.
He stood and faced you, silence between the two of you was not stale or stagnant, it was fuelled by desire and mild confusion, knowledge of what was to come and expectations of pleasure and pain.
“I have a meeting, Y/N.” Ari’s long stride had taken him past you and around the side of the desk, his leather chair angled to the left of his computer.
“If you needed me to take notes-“
“Did I ask you to take notes?” Ari spoke over you with a bite, the force behind his words making you shudder and whimper simultaneously. “You’re going to keep me occupied.”
Ari placed a hand upon the back of the chair, steadying it as he sat down upon the cushioned bottom and then he spread his legs. His cock was strained and throbbing beneath the seams of his slacks and with a single wave of his hand, you had started to walk toward him with your hands by your sides and your eyes still unnerved.
When you were within reach, Ari grabbed your wrist and pulled you toward him and his hard-on, your palm jutted toward the bulbous head. Ari’s voice was laced heavily with need, your name falling from his lips as he made you squeeze his erection.
The intent was known and the command had been all too easily absorbed as you recoiled and lifted your skirt, your hands holding the material in order for him to hook his fingers in the band of your panties to yank them down your thighs.
“This is a punishment,” Ari addressed you with a firm tone yet no less loving than before, “you wanna be a brat? You get punished.”
He enjoyed your verbal exhilaration when he smacked your ass, his palm cracking against your flesh before his fingers dug into you. He had pulled you back toward him, keeping a hand on your ass and the other busied with freeing his thick and throbbing cock.
“You’re going to keep my cock warm while I take this teleconference. If your try and get off my cock before the meeting is finished, you’ll be under the desk sucking me off. If you cum before I say you can, you won’t cum for a week.” Ari’s hands settled on your hips and he arranged you between his legs, giving you no room to protest as he lowered you to his cock, your puffy pussy lips already wet.
The head of his cock had started to part your labia, the seeping precum mixing with your desire, and his name all too easily fell from your lips when he made you take all of him into your tight cunt. When he had settled you in your place, Ari leaned forward and pressed a kiss against the nape of your neck, almost entirely too soft and contradictory to his demanding dominance.
“You have your warning, brat.” Ari’s lips parted and he nipped your flesh as a warning. “I would love any reasons to punish you further, let’s see if you earn the right to cum or if you’ll end up with a week of denial.”
It was hard to breathe without shuddering, hard to contend with the twitch of Ari’s thick bulbous head as it plunged into your cunt.
It was hard to function and focus on taking notes while Ari was on a teleconference since you were being stretched and filled to the brim, wholly and entirely stuffed. He was ruthless, smacking your puffy and hard clit when you faltered, all entirely fuelled by his irritation with your attitude.
“Maybe next time you’ll think about being such a brat. I’m your alpha sweetheart but I’m also your boss.”
“Are you focusing?” You shuddered and whimpered, his voice husky and hoarse in your ear while his fingers deftly plucked at your hard little nub. “I almost feel sorry for you…but I know you like it.”
“J-Jake-” your voice shook, indelibly able to detect his state of being like a dull fog at the back of your mind.
“Yes, Jake is learning a hard lesson too.” Ari purred huskily in your ear and then taunt you further, starting to tap his fingers against your hard clit with every illicit breath you’d taken.
Tumblr media
“We’re planning on taking full advantage of our private dining room, puppy. And you are going to take your punishment with pride.”
Wine, he thought as he swallowed what was given to him, wine should’ve made him feel better and yet it was another delectable sensation intent on ruining him. A good wine that Ransom assured would be palatable with the edging Jake deserved, and he was right.
He had been overstimulated already, entirely too full and stretched with a vibrator in his tight asshole and a ring pulsing at the base of his cock, Jake was being dragged through countless rounds of edging that had only been part of his punishment.
The argument that started it all had come from Jake and focused more on Steve than Ransom. It was a few remarks about Steve’s sexuality and the urge to just jump from the edge of the cliff. Jake had pressed Steve to be bolder with himself, given that there wasn’t anything to fear about being open with how and who he loved.
And though the comments had meant to encourage Steve, it had taken a turn when Steve had embraced Jake’s open brattiness and reassured him that being bold was nothing new to Jake.
“Full, puppy?” Jake’s shiver was inductive of his tension, his cock begging for release that wasn’t granted to him by Steve or Ransom. “I think you’re enjoying yourself.”
It was pleasured and painful torture that left no bruises or marks. It was the sensation of the dildo in his ass vibrating when Steve turned it on and the fallout after it was turned off to give him a chance to calm down. Between the remote in Steve’s control, the remote in Ransom’s control and what he could detect from you, Jake was truly going to lose his mind.
“He can handle it, he’s a big boy.” Steve was almost erotically sadistic when he leaned toward Jake to cup his cheek and turn his head. “You can handle it, right Jake?”
His lips met Steve’s and he tried to chase the feeling, only to fall short and whine in desperation when Steve pulled away.
The super soldier had let go of Jake’s chin and patted his cheek twice, and then he leaned back against his chair and raised a hand to signal the waiter. With striking confidence that made Jake believes he had been playing the entire time, Steve had brazenly raised the remote in his other hand and pressed the button twice.
The shock of the faux cock in his ass had earned another husky groan that fell too easily from Jake’s lips, and the sudden jerk of his hips to seek some kind of pleasurable release from the toys that he was being teased with.
“If you cum, you’re going to pay for it.” Ransom’s warning was whispered as a seductive command in his ear, the deterrent coming with another level of erotic intimacy as the alpha command had settled in his hindbrain.
Thick fingers slipped beneath the table, a hand sliding up a covered thigh while he was truly and well on his way to losing his mind. Trapped under electrifying gazes that burned through him, it wasn’t just one but two that had given him no reprieve from the building tension and cathartic need to reach his end. This was a punishment for his decision to push both of them to their limits, though it wasn’t conventional in any sense.
When Jake had been under the impression that he was going to be punished, he’d thought it would involve Shibari or some restraints to keep him still. He’d never anticipated his ass being stuffed full of a vibrating cock while his shaft and balls were being stimulated by the same torturous quivers.
It was clear that Jake and yourself were being manhandled by your alphas to be punished, he could feel your pleasured pain through the bonds that you and Jake had formed from childhood, and he knew that he wasn’t alone.
“You’ve barely touched your food.” Teasing words that rolled off a silver tongue paired with fingers that slipped further up his thigh before ultimately squeezing the thick throbbing hard-on trapped beneath Italian slacks. “You should eat something.”
“Something wrong, pup?” Steve crooned, raising his fork to his lips to enjoy the seared steak he had been craving. “Not hungry?”
“Ohhh fuck…” Jake’s head lolled back, his eyes screwing closed as vibrations coursed in his ass, the vibrator used to drive him toward a slow orgasm was maddening. “P-please-!”
“I think we need dessert,” Ransom leaned in close to Jake, his tongue lapping at sweat-laden flesh while his hand closed around Jake’s clothed cock. “You’re going to have to wait longer to cum, brat.”
“I’m going to lose my fucking mind.” Jake hissed, his eyes straining to open and his teeth gritting as he cursed with the tension that was rattling him. “Please, fuck-!”
He jerked his hips and dug his nails into the tablecloth with almost enough tension to tear the fabric clean. Jake had ground his teeth with every pulse that rocked his nervous system and drove his mind closer to temporary insanity.
There was no denying their domineering status as alphas, and Jake would later swear on his life that he loved being their little subby omega but at the moment he was fighting for his life.
“If you want to cum,” Ransom let go of his trapped erection and deftly unzipped Jake’s fly, his hand slipping in the opening to grasp his cock under the table, “you have to beg for it.”
The sound that fell from Jake’s lips was garbled and twisted, it wasn’t coherent in any manner but yet it still made his alphas starkly proud of the omega who had resisted until this moment.
He hadn’t been mentally aware of what he was saying, he was letting his tongue work on its own and had only recognized the permission that was given to him after Ransom had dug his teeth back into the mark on Jake’s neck.
The vibrations hadn’t ceased even as Jake had been granted the ability to chase his orgasm. His hips rocked as he threw himself back into the chair, his head lolling as their names rolled off his tongue as an erotic sonnet. It was blinding and white hot pleasure that shot through every nerve ending in his body, Jake’s mind contorted and twisted by desire and release while Ransom’s hand pumped Jake’s shaft.
And even as he started to come down from that high, pleasure was still falling upon him when he felt Ransom’s lips against Jake’s cock to clean his shaft and bulbous head.
“Thank you,” Jake’s chest was heaving with every strained breath, his body wracked with leftover trace amounts of electrifying pleasure, “that was incredible.”
His chin was grasped again, his face turned toward Steve and relief had soon been replaced by anticipation when the super soldier claimed Jake’s mouth as his.
“You’re not done yet.”

The Hunt, Ari Levinson
Word Count: 3.6k
Warnings:  mentions of violence, blood, gore, mentions of bows and arrows, knife violence, slight angst, sacrficies, dubcon relationship.
Tumblr media
Your head snapped up at the noise that came from the riverbank’s opposite edge.   The anxiety bubbled in your chest as you wondered if it would be man or beast, and if you’d have to take another life today, so you ducked behind the rock you were hunting from.  That was, until you spotted a large grizzly padding his way towards the stream.
You held your position, refusing to make a move; because if you did, it was highly likely that you could come across as prey to the bear, and if it was hungry, that could very well be your last mistake. Your heart raced as you watched the majestic beast, feeling a sort of calm washing over your senses.  But through it all, the worry was in your veins, waiting on the call to flee or fight.
But the bear almost seemed to be paying you no mind, instead making his way to the water.  You found a small smile making its way to the corners of your lips, pulling on them as it flopped onto its side, allowing the water to soak its dense fur.  The bear had no concern to see you as a threat.
You giggled, unable to stop the nervous habit as you watched the bear roll in the water.
The bear’s movements ceased, and his head shot up into the cool Autumn air.  Your breath caught in your throat.  The giant, majestic creature was watching you intently with oceanic eyes that seemed to stare through your very soul.
“I won’t hurt you,” you offered softly, stepping out of the way of the rock, so that if you had to run you could.  But instead, you picked up one of the salmon you’d caught just a few moments before.  You tossed it to the bear, and it landed with a dull thud against the stream’s embankment.  The bear looked at you cautiously, as though it were gauging you, before rising out of the water and heading towards the fish.  You held your hands out defensively as you took a step back, “I won’t hurt you Mr. Bear.”
The bear chuffed, and had you known any better you would have thought it sounded like the bear was laughing at you.  You, a simple woman from the village, a threat to the behemoth…anyone would find that laughable.
“I’m sharing my dinner,” you commented dryly, unamused by the bear’s attitude towards you, “you better not attack me for it later…”
The bear snorted heavily over the salmon, before digging into it.  You watched, momentarily, as the bear’s claws shredded the fish as though it were something insignificant, and a worry brewed in the back of your mind, reminding you that the bear was no simple house pet that you could tame.
With a sigh, you dropped your hands, and slowly made your way back towards your supplies.  Looking around, you realized that it was still far too light to make a fire, as other hunters would be able to spot you, so you dug your knife into the fish and tore it open, eating what you could.
Slowly, you noticed the bear began paying more and more attention to you while you attempted to eat your food.  You spared him a sad look, “don’t make me give up the last of it too…I was only able to catch two today…and I haven’t had anything to eat yesterday.”
The bear stopped picking at his salmon, instead choosing to pick it up and angle his head in a way that looked like he was about to shake it.  You watched curiously as he ‘threw’ the mangled fish back to you.
Your heart raced momentarily, and you prayed that the bear that had found you wasn’t a shifter.  It was the annual hunt, and you’d been in the woods for two nights now without seeing any of them and had killed two men who had found you and attempted to take your maidenhood.
“You can’t…understand me…can you?”
To your question the bear began licking his paws.  You narrowed your eyes, watching for any signs that he could possibly be a shifter or that he understood what you were saying, but the longer you watched him, the sillier you felt.
“Of course you can’t understand me,” you muttered softly as you looked away from him, “these woods are driving me crazy…they’ve got me thinking you’re a shifter.”
The bear had gone back to ignoring her and had dipped himself partially back into the water.  You giggled watching as he rubbed his back on one of the larger rocks either to scratch an itch or clean himself, you weren’t all too sure.  But you were quick to frown when you saw the dried blood on your hands.
The blood of the two men you had killed.
The blood and guts of the salmon?
You weren’t too sure anymore.
“If I bathe in the stream, will you promise not to eat me, Mr. Bear?”
The bear chose to ignore you, yet again, satisfying his own bathing needs.
With a quick glance over your shoulder your breathing got heavier.  It was now or never, and you had to decide if you wanted to remain dirty and bloodied, or if you wanted to clean yourself off.  If you waited any longer, then it might be too late to adequately dry off, and the cool autumn night would leave you with a chill and get you sick.
You through your clothes off, quickly stripping yourself away from them and you ran into the water.  It wasn’t shallow, that much you knew from when you were fishing earlier.  It was deep enough to where you could go out to your waist.  But suddenly you felt self-conscious.  Your eyes whipped around until you caught sight of the bear, watching you yet again.
Your hands raced up your chest, cradling your breasts, covering yourself from the beast.
“Look away, you naughty bear.”
But the bear continued to watch you, curiosity overtaking him.
The anxiety came bubbling back up, so you dunked yourself quickly, to make sure that you could get the grime out of your hair and off of your face.  But when you came back up, the bear was no longer in the water.
He’d made his way up the embankment and was watching you from a much closer distance.  He was sniffing your clothing.
“Go away!” you begged, covering your modesty, while trying to encourage the wild beast to leave you alone, “go away, please!”
But he didn’t.  He only seemed to sniff your clothes more vigorously, pawing at the material.
Until a twig snapped.
You didn’t hear it, but he did.  His head snapped in the direction of the action, and your eyes followed his.  It took you but a moment to race out of the water, forgetting your modesty as you rushed to your clothes.
“Please don’t kill me!” you begged as you startled the bear, “whatever you heard made you nervous…and I can’t let anyone find me…not like this.”
You rushed back into your shoddy and torn dress, and he seemed to place himself between you and whatever was out there.  Without thinking about it, your hand gripped his fur, as though he were some living teddy bear, your animal protector.
A shiver ran down your spine, and a gust of wind shot up your dress, making you feel chilled to the bone.
“Whatever you are hearing, I think we should leave.”
This, the bear seemed to understand, as he gently nudged you.  You didn’t even question how the bear managed to make you feel safe.
You were being hunted by man and beast alike, and yet, this large grizzly seemed to make you feel like you were protected.
You followed his gentle nudges, never once letting go of the soft chestnut fur, until you reached a cave, a few miles away.  The bear was the one that had stopped the two of you in your journey, looking carefully at you.
“Is it-is it safe in there?”
He sniffed the air, before walking in, leaving you outside of the cave.  You looked around the woods, unable to see if there was a threat.  But you felt a longing to be near the bear again.  The two of you had an unspoken understanding and a mutual respect; and if nothing else, he was offering you a safe space for the night.
Tumblr media
His cave was dark, but roomy.  Walking into it, you had expected a dirty cavern that would be tight and congested, littered with fish bones or whatever carcasses the bear could have managed to bring back, but yet this den was anything but.
You felt worry in the pit of your stomach as you looked around.  There wasn’t any sign that a human had been there recently, but that still didn’t mean that you were off the hook yet.  It didn’t mean that a shifter couldn’t be lurking around.
A large grizzly like the one that had taken you in and offered you security for your simple act of kindness could easily be loyal to a shifter; and werebears and mountain lions were popular in the area.
You looked around the den, seeing that the bear had taken up residence in one of the darker, more tighter corners, and you nodded to yourself.  If he was a shifter, he would have changed by now.  Off in a separate corner, you saw a little cavern, one that looked small enough to build a fire.  It had a peaked roof, and walking into it, you noticed that it had a tunnel that went deeper off into the cave.
With another nod, you made your way back to the entrance.  But you stopped when the bear grumbled.  Turning on your heel, you sighed.  He was still watching you.
“I’m going to get some firewood,” you told him, as though your comments would mean much to him, “I’m human, which means I could die of hypothermia if I don’t stay warm through the night…I need a fire.”
The bear laid back down, and for another moment, you wondered if he was at least loyal to the shifters, or at least understood the words you were speaking.  But when his eyes closed and he started resting once again, you continued your journey outside.
It wasn’t hard to find kindling, and other wood pieces that you could use to build and maintain a fire through at least the coldest hours of the night.  And before the sunset started peaking over the foothills, you were finding your way back to the entrance yet again and quickly making your way to the cavern where you could light your little fire.
The evening came quickly, and you were warmed by your fire; your guard bear snoring lightly off in his little corner.  It wasn’t until you heard some noise outside that you put your fire out, deciding that you were going to investigate.
Your stomach plummeted when a group of three men were stumbling through the clearing and towards your sanctuary.
“Hold your position,” you proclaimed loudly, making your presence known to the men who were whispering and arguing about where to hide for the night, “what business have you here?”
“Please Miss,” one called, holding out his pitch torch so that he and his companions were lit well enough for you to see that they were injured.  You gasped, seeing the claw marks on their arms and chests, “we were attacked-our village.  By a werebear.  We saw puffs of smoke through the woods, coming from the top of this hill.”
“Y-you cannot come here!” you said quickly, “I-I cannot help you.”
“We only need a place to rest,” the second began, pulling away from his friends, “we will protect you if another shows.”
“NO!” you called firmly, taking a few steps back, “you must leave!  Now!  Keep your evils away from me.”
“What are you hiding, Miss?”
“I know her,” the third spoke calmly, raising his head and looking at you.  You felt your chest tighten, “you were the sacrifice…y-you’re the reason they’re going feral…”
“I-“
“You are conspiring with them!” the first accused, suddenly becoming angry, “why else would you be hiding away while the villages are getting destroyed!”
“No, I-“
“You’re a witch, aren’t you?” the first proclaimed, suddenly angry.  He dropped his torch and reached behind himself, grabbing his bow and an arrow off his back, “WITCH!”
“No, wait,” you began, racing to tell him that you weren’t a witch or conspiring with anyone, “I-“
“BEAR!”
Suddenly, you were being pushed out of the way by a mass of chestnut fur.  Your protector had awoken, and not taken kindly to other humans being around the two of you.
The injured men quickly took up fighting stances, dropping their torches in favor of weapons, while your bear charged towards them. The arrow whizzed past its position, and thudded softly against the bear’s arm, drawing a loud, angry roar from him.
Your hands went up to your mouth, and you gasped.  The creature that had been watching out for you was struck by men, and it was all your fault.
But he continued his assault, quickly taking down the man with the bow, while the second man left his injured friend behind and came at you with a knife.  Behind him, his friends screamed as they were being mauled by the bear, limbs being shredded, muscle eviscerated, and blood splattering against the trees and soft forest floor.
“Witch!” he proclaimed, rushing you with his knife.  You dodged the first gouge he attempted, and he managed to catch the edge of your dress with his next downwards slice.
“I’m not!” you began, rushing towards you own supplies inside the cave.  He caught you on the next slash, the soft flesh of your thigh splitting open with his shallow cut.  You fell to the ground as the pain rushed your leg and blood tinted your skin, “Please!  STOP!”
The man’s mouth fell open.  He looked like he was gasping for breath, as his actions faltered.  The knife fell out of his hand and hit the cave floor, clattering about.   Your short, ragged breathing slowed when you saw the large bear behind him, and in a moment, the man fell to his knees, blood pouring around the back of his neck, and staining his tunic red.
And then his head fell to the floor in front of you.
You stifled a shriek behind your hand, your mind racing all too fast over what had just happened.  You looked to your bear, forgetting your own injury as you noticed an arrow sticking out from one of his forearms, and a gash just between his front haunches.
“Y-you’re injured.”
The bear looked at you and you could see that his own injuries didn’t matter to him.  You turned towards your supplied and reached for something to help him.
“Le-let me…Please.  Pl-please let me take care of you, Mr. Bear.”
The bear gave a grumble, but fell down beside her, far too exhausted from his own battle to argue.  You were quick to pull out your bottle of alcohol, needle, and some dried strips of animal muscle.  You winced putting pressure on your leg, and decided that after you took care of your protector you would stitch yourself up.  Until then, you ripped a strip of your dress off and tied it around your thigh so that the bleeding would at least have pressure on it.
Turning your attention back to the bear, you noticed his eyes fighting to stay open.
“Please don’t die on me,” you begged softly, stroking his muzzle.  He gave you an apologetic look and you returned it, holding up the bottle of alcohol, “I know you can’t understand me…but what I’m about to do is going to hurt…I’m sorry Mr. Bear…”
He groaned when you opened the bottle and poured some of your booze on his wounds.  You frowned, wishing that you didn’t have to hurt him so.  Putting your hand on the arrow, you broke off the end that was sticking out of him and pulled it through the other side.
He gave an angry roar, but restrained himself, not snapping at you like you had expected.
“I’m sorry,” you reiterated whilst you stitched up the wounds.  Every once in a while, your bear would softly groan at you, but he didn’t make any attempt to hurt you.  When you were finally done, he rolled onto his back.  You softly touched his fur, “I’m so sorry, Mr. Bear…I really am.”
But your protector was already off in his own dream world, his oceanic eyes covered up by his furry lids.  So, you turned your attention towards yourself.  With a shiver, you realized that you’d put out your fire when the group of men had come towards the cave, so your first order of business was to make sure that you could get it started back up again.
When you felt yourself becoming warmed up by the fire, and the cave started feeling like an acceptable temperature you turned your attention to your own wounds.  With a heavy sigh, you peeled the dried strip of dress from the gash on your leg.
The burn made you cringe, and you whimpered, knowing that in just a few minutes it was going to get worse.  Taking your needle, you sterilized it with your alcohol.  Then, taking a heavy swig, you poured a healthy amount over your own wound.
“FUCK!”
You hadn’t realized that the bear was awake and watching you again.  Or that his heart ached as he saw you tending to your own wounds, wishing that he could show himself to you.
But he still didn’t have the strength.  He was still far too weak to go back to his human form to let you know that he would protect you in any way possible.
So, he watched you with a heavy heart as you sewed your own wounds shut.  And when you lazily crawled towards him, he closed his lids, pretending not to notice your small form against his beastly one.
“You better not eat me in my sleep,” you whimpered softly, petting his chestnut fur.  He felt a contented rumble growing deep within himself as it emanated from his body, “you’re a sweet bear…I only hope you stay that way in the morning.”
But when the first morning lights streaked through the entrance of the cave, it was not a bear that you were wrapped up in.  It was not the two large furry paws, or chestnut fur that had kept you warm long after the fire died out.
In its place was a man, naked as the day he was born.  He had long chestnut hair, and his chest was speckled similarly with patches over his pecs and running down the center of his chest.
You jumped away from him, shocked at what was going on, lost in the translation of it all.  His eyes opened tiredly, but just enough so that he could peak at you before closing them once again, “I’m tired little mate…come back to me and let us rest until the afternoon…”
“Y-you’re human!” she said quickly, “wh-where is my bear?  Who are you?  What did you do to him?”
His eyes opened and you gasped, “What on earth are you talking about, little mate?  It’s still me.  I’m still Ari, your bear.”
“Y-you were a shifter.”
“I am a shifter,” he said softly, rolling onto his back.  You gasped, seeing the wounds on his forearm and chest, “I couldn’t change back after those men…”
“And before that?”
“Little mate, we have all the time in the world to discuss that, now that I’ve found you before the third day ends,” he reminded you.  You looked to the entrance of the cave, tempted to run, “I will say that you can run, but I’ve already got your scent in my mind…I was tracking you for nearly two days, little one…I doubt you’ll be able to escape me now.”
“But I-“
“And anyways…I’m a bear…I like the chase.  It really revs me up,” he growled playfully, sparing you a glance.  Your breath caught in your throat as your eyes subconsciously worked down his chest to his growing erection, “what, little mate?  Do I pique your interest in this form?”
“D-don’t call me that…”
“Call you what?” he asked, the playfulness falling away from himself, “Mate?  That’s what you are.  You’re my mate.”
“I am a sacrifice,” you reminded him, your eyes turning stony, “I was thrown in the forest and told to run.  If I was caught by a bear or a human-“
“Do you wish to fight me?”
Your eyes slipped back to your supplies, before shifting to his again.  It was like he was calling your bluff, but neither one of you moved.
“Come back to bed then, little mate,” he said softly, opening his arms out to you, “I could still keep you warm…just in a variety of different, more creative ways…”
“I-I don’t know you.  I don’t w-“
“As I’ve told you before, my name is Ari,” he began, leaning on one of his elbows.  Your eyes shot to his fully hardened appendage and you blushed, looking away again, “you know, it’s very rude to be eyeing a bear up the way you are…coming into my den with me…laying with me but not-“
“I have not laid with you, bear.”
“Ari…”
“Ari,” you repeated, giving him the small victory of saying his name.  A rumble erupted from his throat, and it sent butterflies fluttering about in your stomach, “please stop looking at me like that.”
“Then come back to bed, little mate,” Ari repeated, holding his arms outstretched to you, “do not leave king of the bears waiting too long for his queen and mate.  I would hate for you to send me into a rut our first night together…we bears are known for losing our senses…and while I would enjoy taking your maidenhood, cubs are a thing that I don’t wish to scare you with.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You're just letting me go?" you asked.
"Wait by the gate," one of the soldiers told you.
He motioned you toward a simple farmer's gate that broke up the barbed wire fence that stretched out as far as the eye could see. That the man stood slightly in front of the others told you he was the leader. All of them dressed in black tactical gear, all holding rifles except for the one who spoke to you. His was slung across his back.
Your heart raced as you timidly did as you were told. You shivered in the chilly autumn breeze.
Beyond that rusted gate was an open field with a forest at its edge. There were no visible guards beyond the gate: just wide-open spaces, freedom.
You swallowed hard. It couldn't be that easy, could it?
When the northern states began invading the southern border of Canada, everyone knew why. Omega birth rates in the US had been dropping for the last twenty-five years, causing the land of the free to resurrect some very archaic restrictions on the few they had. The alpha population, on the other hand, flourished.
But despite all their twisted efforts, very few omegas were born in the US over the last two decades.
It started with a rash of disappearances. It didn't take long for the media to ascertain that every one of those missing young Canadians was an omega. Once the invasions started in small border towns, the politicians got involved. A war between the two nations would be declared at any time.
None of it helped the omegas caught in the crosshairs. Not yet. One by one, the border towns were invaded. The younger omegas were rounded up and taken into custody. The stories were all over social media. The kidnap victims, male and female, were illegally transported into the US and auctioned off to alphas for vast sums of money.
Your town had been invaded. They'd plucked you out of your life along with all the other young omegas in your community, mated and unmated. You were kept in a makeshift prison on the outskirts of town for the last few weeks, kept company by armed guards.
The facility was run like a prison. All of you were fed three meals a day and allowed a daily shower. But there was no communication with the outside world. No television, internet, or smartphones. You got an hour in a community room each evening after dinner. They provided jigsaw puzzles, craft baskets, and a handful of books. All the books were educational, written to educate omegas on what to expect during heat cycles, nesting, mating and bonding, birth, and parenthood.
The writing was on the wall. You were all held captive, deprived of the suppressants most of you took to control your biology. You were all like death row inmates, waiting for the permanent death of your freedom. It was only a matter of time before you found yourself shipped off to America for auction to some unknown wealthy alpha to claim.
That's why you were so confused now.
With your heart flying, you glanced over your shoulder to see another omega from your town standing in the place where you'd been standing before. She looked as confused as you felt. Both of you wearing the camouflage-colored sweatshirts and jeans they handed out this morning. The boots they gave you were too small, squeezing your toes.
You waited by the gate, exhaling a shaky breath.
What was going to happen next?
The leader marched in your direction, stopping in front of you. The man towered over you, his gaze hard. The subtle scent of him told you he was a beta. All of the guards were.
You froze when he pulled out a small pistol. In the blink of an eye, he pressed it to the side of your neck. You flinched when he pulled the trigger, felt a sharp pinch. Then it burned. What had he shot you with?
"I'm going to open the gate," he said meaningfully. "And you're going to run across the field to the woods. If you stop running, you'll be shot."
Oh, shit.
"Once you get to the woods, you're on your own," he went on. "If you can find your way out of those woods, you're free."
Free, huh? You didn't buy it. They wouldn't have invaded your town, taken you captive, and held you for weeks just to let you go. What was going on here?
With an efficiency that was startling, he lifted the latch on the gate and pulled it open.
"Run!" he yelled.
Your body sprang into action despite the thoughts swirling around in your head, despite the burn spreading out from your neck. You sprinted out of the gate, running like hell for the woods to avoid being shot. You were winded by the time you reached the woods. Your activity had been very limited since they took you.
Fear wouldn't allow you to look back. You paused for a beat to catch your breath and then you began wandering the woods. Something told you the offer was too good to be true, that you wouldn't be allowed to just wander out of the woods to freedom. But if there was any chance you could find a way to free yourself...
You scanned the area around you wildly at first. Did you know this place? Was it close to home?
You made your way through the woods, but nothing looked familiar. As the line of trees where you'd entered the forest got farther away, you came to realize how dense and deep these woods were.
You weren't watching where you were going and collided hard with someone. Your heart flew as you stared at another captive from the facility where you'd been kept. Her eyes were wide in alarm.
"Watch it!" she hissed.
"Sorry."
When you started to go about your way, she grabbed you by the sleeve and hauled you back with her behind a huge tree trunk. You looked at her in question.
"They are hunting us," she whispered loud enough for you to hear. "Don't you get it?"
 Hunting?
 "What?" you mouthed.
She leaned close, getting in your ear. "There are alphas hunting us," she said. "It's just a game to them."
You stared at her in horror as you moved back. You didn't miss the perspiration on her brow, her labored breathing. Her scent was strong around both of you. Climbing warmth spread out from your neck to the rest of you. Now that you'd paused, you became aware of it. Your fear escalated as your hand flew up to cover where he'd shot you.
"What did they give us?" you asked.
The other omega glared. "What do you think?"
With horror, you realized what they'd done.
"My heat is coming on fast," she said. "Yours will too. If we stay together, the scents will be too concentrated. They'll find us easily."
You knew she was right, but your heart sank. You'd just found someone else in your situation. It would have been nice to work together, find a way out of the woods.
If you ever did. If you even could.
"Go!" she said, and you started moving.
Even though it was a cool autumn day, you were hot and it was getting worse. Your mind spun as you tried to move quickly but quietly. How many of you were they sending out? How many alphas were looking for the lot of you? What was going to happen?
You struggled to breathe through your nose, to watch where you stepped. There was a chance you'd make it out, right? Could you survive this without being found by some arrogant American alpha? You needed to keep track of your direction. Glancing up in desperation, you were looking for the position of the sun through the canopy of trees.
And that's when you spotted him.
The man perched high up in a tree, dressed in black tactical gear like the soldiers at the facility except one of his sleeves was shiny, threaded with gold. Is that how the alphas are dressed? Brown hair that just touched his shoulders framed his face.The bottom half of that face was concealed by a black mask and steely blue eyes watched you intently above it. Crouching in the tree, you couldn't tell how big he was. You hoped he wasn't fast.
You sprinted away, racing through the forest as fast you could and praying you wouldn't trip and fall. You heard him hit the ground hard. Your heart threatened to beat its way out of your chest as you just kept going, hoping he hurt himself in the fall.
The heavy sounds of his footfalls came up behind you fast. A strong arm grabbed the back of your sweatshirt and swung you around. You were shoved back against a tree hard, knocking the wind from your lungs. The edge of your vision faded to black to see the man in front of you, his blue eyes lit up in determination. He held you to the tree by your neck. When you tried to pry his hand off, you found it was unnaturally hard. It wasn't a shiny sleeve. It was a metal arm.
The man plucked the black mask off his face, dropping it to the ground as he leaned in and pressed his face into your scent glands. He took another whiff of you as you trembled in his grasp. His own scent invaded your senses: deep plum, leather, and winter forest. The scent of him pushed the growing flames burning inside you higher, your thighs clenched together, and moisture flooded your panties. Was it the chemical they gave you to provoke a heat cycle? Would you have reacted to him anyway?
Even so, he was a head taller than you with wide shoulders and long muscular limbs. His intent gaze burned into you as he held you there, struggling in his grip. You jerked as his flesh hand grabbed the waist of your jeans, plucking them open before sliding down into your panties. Your range of movement was limited as he held you by the neck against the tree. No matter how much you twisted and squirmed, you couldn't keep his seeking fingers from sliding through your heated folds on all the slick your body was producing. The slight smile that curved his mouth filled you with dread as he pulled his hand free of your denim.
All you could do was stare when he brought those fingers up to his mouth, his lips and tongue cleaning them. His low hum was a deep sound that you felt in every inch of your body. Some dark intent lit up those dark blue eyes as he focused on you.
But he wasn't saying anything.
In a flash, he threw you over his right shoulder, held in place with his flesh hand. He started moving and your stomach lurched as the woods flew past you at an unnatural speed. Your hands clutched the back of his jacket, the black leather cold under your fingers. You spotted another girl from your confinement, running from another alpha. The omega who told you what happened was further into the woods on her hands and knees, being fucked from behind by the alpha who caught her.
Adrenaline spiked your growing fear. You didn't even try to fight the beast of a man who had you. What was wrong with you?
Planting your hands on his back, you pushed off hard and fast. It worked because you surprised him, landing on the ground with a thump behind him. Pain seared your knees and elbows as you scrambled up. Now if you could be fast enough in getting away.
You dashed off, screaming when another man darted out from behind a tree and caught you in his arms. The one who held you wasn't as tall as the other man, but you could feel the muscular wall of his chest under your fingers as he held onto you. Unlike the first one, he wore a deep burgundy sweater and jeans like he was just walking through the woods. His scent was an intoxicating blend of ash, iron, and molten lava. You fought to breathe, unable to prevent yourself from pressing your face into his neck and taking a deep breath of the alpha's essence.
"Thank you, Barnes," he said, his hold on you tightening. "I'll see you back at the cabin."
Planting your hands on that chest, you tried to push back, to free yourself. This alpha with his perfectly coiffed dark hair, goatee, and deep hazel eyes chuckled as he held onto you with ease.
"Feisty," he said, startling you when he fastened a heavy metal device around your wrists with a speed that was scary. "I like it."
"No." The man behind you growled the word. You felt the heat of him behind you, his scent invaded your senses and went to your head. "She's mine."
The other alpha stiffened against you.
"Ah, no," he said confidently. "She's the one I picked out. I showed you, remember? I realize you're on the edge of a rut, buddy. But this one is mine. Go find your own."
Barnes' low growl sent a spike of fear through you. Would he accept that?
To you, the alpha who cuffed you said, "Start walking. You get more than three feet away from me and those cuffs are going to get very uncomfortable."
What?
You sped up, trying to dash away. Electric pulses sent searing pain up your arms. The pain was so acute, it took your breath away. It momentarily overpowered the biological process they'd artificially induced in you. And that was saying something.
Grabbing your elbow, he urged you to walk along next to him, in no particular hurry. A smirk formed on his handsome face as he pulled you along in the forest. You were afraid of what it might mean. You were so overwhelmed by everything, you cooperated. You didn't want to feel the pain again.
And Barnes couldn’t take you away from him without causing you a lot of pain. He wouldn’t, would he?
The lewd sounds of coupling were all around you, a macabre symphony of domination that pushed your fears higher. They were also making the powerful craving building in your body so much worse. The slick  soaked your panties, your jeans, clinging to you in a sticky mess. Your core was aching, and your thighs were starting to tremble. You hadn't been given bras and the scrape of your sweatshirt against your tight nipples was impossible to ignore.
The one he'd called Barnes wasn't trying to stop you. Was he still back there? Had he gone to find another omega? It was hard to tell over the sounds of coupling and hard to focus on with waves of heat and need pulsing through your body.
As your heart raced and your breath came faster, you saw the edge of the forest ahead. He'd mentioned a cabin to Barnes. Did that mean he didn't intend to claim you in the woods? If you were now going to belong to this alpha, was he sparing you at least that indignation?
A few feet from the break in the trees, the alpha stopped you. Walking around in front of you, his gaze on your plucked-open jeans. His smile widened.
"This will make him insane," he said, reaching in and gripping your panties. They were so wet there wasn't even a rending sound as he ripped them from you, pulling them free of your jeans. Humiliation had you dropping your gaze as he brought them up to his nose. "Fucking perfect."
Why did he want to make Barnes insane?
A low whine escaped you as your pussy lips absorbed the pain of that extraction. Craving more. The alpha's expression held a touch of sympathy.
"Not much farther," he said, dropping your underwear to the forest floor. He's leaving them for the other alpha? Why? A display of dominance? "We'll take good care of you. I promise."
It wasn't lost on you that he said we.
When you emerged from the woods, at a different point than you'd entered them, you saw more armed soldiers. Another drove up in an open black cart, nodding to the alpha as he pulled you toward it.
"Everything has been arranged, Mr. Stark,"
 "Thank you," he muttered.
Helping you in first, he climbed into the driver's seat, and off you went. It was a short drive until you reached what looked like an expensive resort. Yes, all the buildings were styled as rustic log cabins. But as you got closer, you saw that they were upscale and luxurious with huge shimmering windows and other fancy architectural touches that would have been expensive. If you hadn't been cramping so badly, you might have appreciated the sprawling resort.
As it was, you were in a lot of discomfort bordering on pain. By the time he pulled into the garage of the largest cabin you would see, you were shaking. The heat they'd forced on you made you desperate. The scent of him next to you had your mouth watering. You were ready to crawl into the alpha's lap even as your mind was screaming at you to fight and resist.
Reaching over, he freed you from the cuffs. His fingers felt so good as they soothed the flesh marked by the metal. His heated gaze was intent on you.
"They dosed you good, didn't they? Have you ever been through a heat before?" he asked.
“Alone,” you said, tears gathering. Frustration burned your body while your mind was spinning.
“I’m Tony. And I know you don’t think so right now,” he told you, “but you will have a good life with me. Our cubs will have a good life. You won’t want for anything.”
Dropping your head, steeling yourself against the ache, you managed to mutter, “freedom.”
“Freedom?” Tony said, his chuckle was a deep, rich sound. “You haven’t even experienced freedom yet. But you will.”
With impressive speed, he dashed around the cart and scooped you out, carrying you bridal style into the luxurious cabin. Your face pressed into his neck, breathing him in. The heat and strength of him were compelling, had you grinding your thighs together in agony.
The huge bedroom was warm, cozy. The fireplace next to the bed held a bright flame adding its glow to the soft lighting. The bedding looked sumptuous and soft. The extra blankets neatly folded on the bed had your mind spinning, wishing you’d had time in advance to work with those blankets. Get everything just right.
A cart on the other side of the bed, loaded with food. There was a basket of fruit and a small stack of protein bars. There were sweets too with cookies and pastries. The small cooler next to it was filled with ice, bottles of water.
Tony was careful in placing you on the huge bed. Smoothing a hand over your cheek, his eyes were kind. But there was something… some mischief. What was happening? He’d went to all the trouble to pluck you out of the forest.
A quick glance around the room and he sighed. “I think we’re all set.”
You were panting, a hand down in your jeans. You were burning alive from the inside and your desperate fingers on your clit couldn’t bring you relief. Your tears were bitter. Your life was being stolen by an obviously wealthy American alpha. You’d been thrown into heat against your will. Heat swallowed you. Your throat was parched.
Were you even going to survive this?
“Let’s make you more comfortable,” Tony purred, grabbing the hem of your sweatshirt and pulling it over your head. His gaze roamed over your breasts, his smile widening. He lifted a hand, barely touching one tight nipple with his fingertips.
That simple touch pulled a desperate whine from you.
“It’s okay.” That hand slid down over your ribs and darted into your jeans. When his fingers pushed in around yours and found your clit, you thought you were going to explode. You froze, taking in the delicate way he was tracing circles around that tiny bundle of nerves at your center. His lips chained kisses along your neck, the light scratch of his beard made you shiver. “You really are perfect.”
Tony moved to push your jeans down and you were frantic to help him, managing to shed the shoes and socks you wore too. His hands skimmed over your thighs as you did, the rough pads of his fingers making your crazy and surprising you all at once. Why would a wealthy alpha has rough hands?
When you were fully revealed to him, he wrapped a hand around the back of your neck, pulling you into him for a kiss. Every part of your body was on fire, aching. It didn’t speed him up. He took his time, claiming your mouth with a seeking kiss. He enticed you, tasted your lips. When he eased back, you just stared.
“What are you doing?” Your voice sounded desperate to your own ears.
Tony chuckled. “In a weird way, I’m reinstating Prima Nocta.”
You had no idea what that meant, and you didn’t care. Taking you in his arms, he took both of you further up the bed, into the small mountain of pillows at the top. His lips blazed a path over your jaw, down to your chest. When his mouth closed around one of your nipples, it was all you could do not to scream. You choked it back, losing your mind as the tip of his tongue danced around that tight little peak.
“Don’t hold back,” he whispered around it. “I want to hear you.”
You gasped as he moved down your body, his mouth cleaning the slick from the tender flesh of your inner thighs. Your hands shook as your fingers sank into his hair. You parted your legs for him, closer now to getting the relief you needed. When he got his mouth on you, you screamed long and loud. While his tongue strummed your clit with precision when it wasn’t exploring your folds, you were howling wantonly in the quiet of the cabin.
You begged for relief, pleaded for more. The alpha held you open for him easily, humming into your flesh until you thought you’d blow apart. You came the first time just from that vibration. Tony brought you off the second time on his tongue.
Tony lifted from you, pulling the sweater he wore off and revealing a dazzling display of muscles. But there were so many scars, including a nasty looking one right at the center of his chest. You were about to reach out and trace it with a finger, but he caught your chin in his hand and made you meet his gaze.
“Present for me,” he said. Not an order but a sensual request.
And you scrambled to get on all fours for him, facing the pile of pillows at the end of the bed. Tony’s hand caressed your ass, and he pressed a kiss to your shoulder.
“Let’s turn you around,” he whispered.
Whatever you want. You turned to face the huge picture window at the other end of the huge room. The sun was setting and smearing the sky in vivid red and orange, almost dark. You dropped down to your elbows, whining a little as you did to let him know you were still in need. The two orgasms you already had took the edge off, but everything still hurt.
You’d had a couple of lovers, betas, who you’d been happy with for a time. They’d been good lovers. You’d never been with an alpha. Tony slid easily into your weeping entrance. But the size of him… You gasped as he reached the end of you, your walls trembling to stretch around him. You wondered how it would feel when you weren’t in heat.
At the moment, it was bliss. His hands gripped your hips tightly and he began to move in you, knowing what you needed. His cock pounded into you once he established a rhythm, making you fight to stay in place for him. Your slick walls tried in vain to grip him, the slide tightening the grip lust had on you, spinning your senses.
The first howl you heard was on the edge of your awareness. It might have been Tony. It could have been you. But as Tony fucked you, the heat and lust consumed you. Your fingers clawed at the lavish bedding beneath you while your body craved more. Your heart slammed in your chest, in time with his powerful thrusts. You were panting, whining. By the time you were coming again, sensation overwhelmed you, coursing through your veins.
You dropped your head, a slave to your biology as Tony worked you from behind. You braced for him to reach his release, to knot you.
Yet, even in your chaotic state, you noticed he wasn’t in a frenzy as you were. Tony’s movements and breathing were controlled. His grip was firm but not demanding. While the string of orgasms helped quench the out-of-control flames of your heat, he wasn’t as desperate as you were.
Did he find you lacking? If you didn’t satisfy him, would you be sent back to the woods? The facility where you’d been kept for weeks?
Would they let you live?
Grabbing your hair, Tony pulled your head back up and holding you there. The move put the picture window in your view. The sun was sinking beneath the horizon and its dying rays offered enough light to see his shadow outside the window.
You saw the silhouette of the first alpha who caught you and it both terrified and excited you.
When his metal hand struck the window, cracking the glass beneath his fist, you came hard.
“Fuck yeah,” Tony growled behind you.
The world spun for you and Tony released your hair. His grip on your hips was iron-hard, almost hurt. Tony doubled down then, coming inside you as the echoes of your release went on and on until everything went black.
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
Your mother knew you were going on a date. She looked at you with the expression she wore when she was worried and wanted to say something, but she kept quiet. She helped you with picking out an outfit. Did your hair the way you liked, and lent you her favorite necklace. It hung above your chest real pretty.
You were a bit of a mess the time before Lee came to pick you up. You paced back and forth in your room for an hour, murmuring the lines of your favorite book to help calm you. Nothing really worked. Your heart was beating firmly in your chest and your hands were shaking. You kept the door closed because you didn’t want your parents to come bother you. Or ask questions.
Your mother didn’t know it was the sheriff who came to pick you up. You weren't ready to share it with them. It was all very new. And this was the first date. He might realize he didn’t like you all that much, soon. No need to get your hopes up.
At one minute before 1pm you grabbed your bag and coat and greeted your parents. Walking down the path of your house you saw him driving up. As he slowed down you waited patiently until he stopped. He got out and smiled.
“I was going to come pick you up and escort you to the car.”
Oh. you bit your lip. “But then my parents would see you.”
He frowned. “Am I a dirty secret, sweetheart?”
You blinked rapidly. “No.”
“You don’t want them to see me with you?”
“I don’t want them to…” You hesitated, thinking. “It’s new, just us. I don’t know how it will be when they know.”
“You want to keep me for yourself for a bit, huh?” he grinned.
You nodded.
He hummed, pleased. “Well, can’ say I mind that. You wanna get in the car, sweetheart?”
You nodded and went to grab the door handle, but he walked around the car to open it for you.
You felt heat creep up your neck at the gesture. It was romantic. Like the movies you sometimes watched. But now you were the girl in the scene. You got in and he waited until you had gathered your skirt, before he closed the door and walked to the driver's seat.
“I think you look great, Sweetheart. You’re all dolled up prettily. Can’t believe you are letting me take you out.”
You ducked your head and hummed, biting your lip. You eyed him from the side of your eyes as he eyed you. He drove you towards your destination, and you spent the time in pleasant silence.
Sometimes you looked over at him and observed him. He had a bit of a double chin, but his lips were full and his eyes were the bluest of blue you had ever seen. He was handsome, and he acted with such confidence. He never seemed to be afraid. Came with the job perhaps. But he always seemed to know how to react or what to say. Sometimes he confused you, but often it felt nice to let him lead.
He picked the local ice cream shop, there was only one in town. He picked vanilla, and you picked chocolate. At some point as you were eating your treat, he leaned over and scooped up some of yours.
You blinked. That wasn't something you did. Neither did your parents after the tantrums you used to throw if someone unexpectedly grabbed something of yours. You blinked again and looked away, biting your lip so hard it hurt.
You shouldn’t get agitated. He was paying for this after all. But…he had just taken it. Without asking. If he had asked, you would have let him. It would be okay. But now he just did it. You weren’t even aware of the frown on your face until he said your name softly.
As you looked up he was staring at you. “You’re angry,” he stated.
“I…” you frowned harder. “You shouldn’t just take something without asking if it’s okay.”
He laughed. “You’re telling me off?”
You said nothing to that. You had been very clear, you thought.
“Alright, you don’t like that? When people take your things?”
“It’s polite to ask and see if someone says yes.” You said again. Had he never been taught this? “I don’t like it, no. It upsets me.”
He stared at you for a moment, contemplating and then shrugged. “Alright, i won't do it again. I promise. Next time I’ll ask.”
You nodded. And continued eating.
“You want to try mine?” he offered with a big grin.
You thought about it and watched his ice cream. “Yes.”
He pushed the bowl towards you and you scooped something up and tasted it. Sweet. Much sweeter than yours. You eyed him shortly.
“You want some of mine?”
“If I'm allowed.”
He was smiling, he was teasing, you realized. “Yes, I offered.”
He hummed as he scooped some of yours up, and he licked the spoon when he was finished, as your eyes followed his tongue glide over the metal.
You suddenly realized he wasn’t wearing his uniform today. He wore a white shirt with a blue jacket. He looked relaxed and he was wearing cologne. He smelled nice. Even if you liked his natural scent better.
“You look nice.” you blurted out.
He froze and stared at you. Then he swallowed and his voice cracked a little as he replied. “You think so?”
“Yes.” you nodded. I like the jacket.”
“I remember you like blue, so.”
You lowered your eyes again and nodded, a pleased smile appearing on your lips.
“Thank you for the compliment, sweetheart. That does a man well.”
You didn't know how to reply, so you kept quiet.
“You want to take a walk with me? The weather is nice, the park might be nice for a stroll.”
You nodded and he got up to pay.
As you walked past the trees, sunlight hitting your face pleasantly - it wasn't too warm, just right - he talked about himself. His job, a little bit about his family, the way he planned to renovate his house to make it more comfortable. You listened, humming or nodding your head as you went. And he asked you questions too. What things you liked, what you did when you weren't working, what book you were currently reading. You liked that question the most. It was easy talking about something you knew. Something you loved. He listened, apparently not getting bored, his eyes moving over your face like he wanted to catch every expression of it.
“I talk too much,” you suddenly stopped, ducking your head. You knew you had a tendency to go on and on when you liked something, and not everyone appreciated it.
“No, I love hearing what you think,” he replied, and your head shot up to face him. He was looking kind, wrinkles around his eyes as he somewhat smiled at you, and you shuddered a little with the pleasant thrill that went through you.
“I don't want to bother you.”
“You aren't. I asked you a question, didn't I? And I love how you light up talking about it. You're so pretty when you're happy.”
You ducked your head again, still not used to being compliments. “I'm not pretty,” you whispered.
His finger lifted your chin towards him. “And I'm telling you, you are. Prettiest in this whole town. Look at you, all dolled up, pretty as a peach. It's for me isn't it?”
The way his voice lowered at the last sentence sent heat through your body. You nodded, breathless.
“I know. You let me take you out, show you around, showing people you're with me. You have no idea what it does to me.”
“What it does to you? What- what does it do to you?” You stuttered, getting a bit dazed with how close he suddenly was, how good he smelled.
He stepped even closer and seemed to push you at the same time, until your back hit a tree, with him towing above you. His face looking down was greedy, he was biting his lip and licking it, and his mouth looked so red afterwards, you couldn't stop staring at it.
“Look at you, by my side like you're supposed to. I'm feeling real lucky, sweetheart. Having such a beautiful girl next to me, enjoying my company. Looking at me the way you do now. Makes me think all sorts of thoughts.”
“Good thoughts?” You whimpered. His smell had thickened and it was making your knees tremble.
“Thoughts I should not be saying in public,” he murmured. “I shouldn't even be speaking them to you. Real improper of me. Things you shouldn't be doing until you're married, things a good girl would have to wait for.”
You swallowed, it was getting real hot here, was the temperature rising? It should've been cooler under the tree, but you felt like sweat was beginning to pour down your neck.
“But you're such a good girl it makes me want to be a little naughty.”
“Naughty?” You eeked.
His finger trailed down your neck and you made a strange noise.
“We're in public.”
Yes, you were. It wasn't crowded, and the tree provided a little bit of shelter, but not much. If you were spotted it would be considered indecent. Yet you did nothing to stop him. It felt like your body was frozen. Completely focused on him. Nothing else seemed to matter.
“A kiss won't be too bad, would it? People kiss on dates. A tiny peck. You will be fine with it, won't you, sweetheart?”
You stared at his lips and breathed a “yes”, before he was already there. His tongue still tasting like vanilla.
One of his hands on your hips. Possessive. Like he was showing everyone you were good. You mewled. He pressed himself against you and his scent was all around you, numbing your senses and lightening them up at the same time. There was just him.
“Shh,” he whispered, as he continued to peck your lips and then your neck. “Gotta be quiet, we don't want anyone to spot us, do we? God, imagine if they find us here. You're all worked up. Smelling of me.” He groaned and pressed his pelvis further against you, your knees buckled.
“They will all know you're mine. No one would even look at you after, they would know. This is mine.”
His hand went under the skirt of your dress before you could comprehend it. His fingers brushed softly over your panties and you gasped. He shouldn't be doing this, somewhere in the back of your mind you knew it. This was - improper, as he said - he was - you - in public! But his fingers softly stroked over you and you couldn't stop him. You felt so much, you felt everything. And his scent was so heavy you felt like you were floating.
He groaned and pressed his face in your neck, softly sucking on your gland and you broke. Shuddering in his arms, his fingers slowed their peace but he was still focused on that spot in your neck, you felt his teeth slightly.
It took ages to calm down, but when you did he looked flushed and eager down at you. Like he didn't want to ever look away.
“Look at you.”
You felt him against you. It was so different to you, you know this was what the books were talking about. He was.. aroused. His manhood pressed against you eagerly and he moved a little, like he wanted to be even nearer.
“I can't wait very long, sweetheart. I'm trying to be real nice here, give you a proper courting, but you're making it hard for me.” He chuckled. “Girl like you deserves better than a public claiming.” He sighed, disappointed, and pulled back. “Give me a minute, darling. I just need to calm down a little.”
Was he agitated? Calm down? He acted a little strange, looking at the distance and not you. Had you done anything wrong? Should you have pushed him back? You had not stopped him, maybe he was disappointed you were easy. Tears pricked in your eyes and you looked down. Suddenly the joy you felt turned into despair.
“Hey, no, no sweetheart, no. Come on, look at me. I'm not mad.” He was suddenly holding you, and softly brushing the hair out of the nape of your neck. “I'm not mad, I just… a man can't walk around showing his excitement to the rest of the world, okay? I needed to have a moment to be fit for public, that's all.”
He wasn't mad? You pressed your face into his chest, not caring if you'd smear your makeup into his clothes.
“You did so well. I'm so proud.” He murmured the words in your ears.
“Looking so beautiful, responding so well to me. How easily you - god help me, you're just making me hard again.”
You clung to him, like he was a lifeline you needed to breathe. He let you, and held you softly, rocking you back and forth, and it was comforting. Even if his…his thing pressed against you.
“Going to be the death of me, “ he said softly, groaning. “But I wouldn't want it to be anyone else.”
-
He saw you every day now. Picking you up from work. Taking you for a walk, or simply sitting in the car making out. You did that now! Making out. His hands couldn't help wandering, but he told you he tried to be decent. Tried to take his time. He gave you flowers. And candy. He complimented you every day how nice you looked.
He seemed pleased and happy. Different from the stern man you had seen him to be, patrolling through town, talking to people. He was lighter somehow. A power in his step as he walked towards you. You couldn't believe you were the reason for it, maybe you just never saw it before?
You smelled like him. You had to tell your parents there was someone. You liked him. They wanted to meet and you knew it was proper. You told him.
He groaned a little. “I know. I should officially meet them. It's only right. Do you think they'll accept me?”
You blinked. Why wouldn't they? And it's not like you had any other suitors lying in wait.
“I mean, I'm a little older than you. And not everyone is too fond of me.”
You thought of what words you wanted to use. “You don't want to meet them?” You sounded unsure. Suddenly filled with doubt. Maybe he wasn't prepared to move ahead with courting you. Maybe with the prospect of making this real, an official claim, he realized it wasn't what he wanted. Not wanted you.
“Hey, hey!” His fingers stroked your cheek, bringing your focus back on him. “Don't do that. Don't worry, it's not you. I'm just a little worried they will deny me.”
You eyed him, then nodded, and looked away. “I think they won't. They like you. They said you treated me fair, when I got into trouble? You weren't mean to me. You treated me right.”
“Only fair to, sweetheart, you didn't even know what you were doing, they had set you up. I could see that. I could tell you were a good girl then. And you listened to me, didn't you? Never got into trouble again.”
You nodded firmly. Yes, you had. Made very sure. Always followed the rules.
“Because you're my good girl, ‘ey? Listen so well to what I say. Always so good, so sweet.” He was putting on that voice again, like he was getting lost in his own thoughts, you had that as well, when you were daydreaming about the stories in your head and you lost sight of the real world. But when he did it, it often ended in kisses.
He was looking at you like you were a delicious meal and he was starving. Leaning over, he grabbed you and pressed his mouth against you, slipping his tongue in soon after. Making you feel all dazed again.
“Of course I'm going to meet your parents. I'm going to be on my best behavior. Show them we're a good match. That I'll treat you right. Might not be the best man, but I'll be the best husband for you.”
You didn't even have room to reply, his mouth kept covering yours, and his hands were soon brushing your chest in a way that entwined your scents so deliciously.
You came home too late that day, and your parents scolded you for the first time in years. Which made you feel terrible, but you also didn't know how to explain that you simply couldn't think straight around him. It was your fault, but it also wasn't, and you were afraid they wouldn't understand that even if you told them.
-
Another long day at work. But you had something to look forward to now. Lee would pick you up afterwards and bring you home. Maybe (definitely) there would be kissing. And maybe his hands would make you feel good again. You typed away, not really paying attention to the words, automatically making corrections and filing it away once you were done.
Soon you were going to ask your parents to invite Lee over to dinner, to meet them officially. You didn't know where it would lead, but he wanted to keep seeing you. So they had to know. It was proper. Your parents were supposed to say that you could keep seeing each other. You hoped they did. You thought they would. But perhaps you were wrong.
You bit your lip, suddenly freezing at the thought they might not approve.
There was a chance. He was a bit older than you. And there were those rumors about him. And you had been letting him get a little further than you should've.
You were lost in thought until you heard loud giggling nearby. Some of your co-workers took a short break, getting some water at the small kitchenette. You started typing again, hoping to pick up work again so you'd be finished on time.
They were whispering loud, however, it was distracting you. You frowned, but tried to not let it bother you. It was too nearby, and the giggling and hushed voices started getting louder and louder, until it felt like it was pounding in your head. You stared at your paper and involuntarily listened in.
“...no!”
“No, she did. She said it was the two of them.”
“He wouldn't. Not with her. She must've misunderstood.”
“They were walking together.”
“Maybe he was bringing her home. Bet she gets lost all the time. I'm telling you she's got a screw loose in that head of hers.”
“Pa always said there's something wrong with her, but no, Janey really did see them, kissing.”
A loud screech sounded, but Doris tried to shush it quickly, some people nearby were giving the three of them looks.
Dread started to come over you, you had a suspicion, but weren't sure, that you knew who they were talking about. Looking up, two of them had their backs turned at you, but the other was glancing over at you with a look like the cat got the cream. You hurriedly looked down at your work, but you couldn't focus at all anymore.
“Who would want to kiss her? Maybe he felt pity for her?
“Well, she's not ugly.”
“So what, who wants a faulty wife? Can you imagine her at his side? It would be shameful, surely he can do better.”
“He's getting older, he hasn't found his mate yet, maybe he's getting desperate. To settle for her, he must be. It's a shame, because he can find a lot more willing Omegas. He's the sheriff, he could have his pick. Can't believe he'd choose her.”
You stood up abruptly, the chair making a weird noise, dragging unwanted attention to you. You bit your lip as you walked away. Rushing to the bathroom, you got into a stall and locked it. Your thoughts were tumbling through each other. All those words they said, they were talking about you and Lee…there could be no one else.
Shameful, that's what they called it. It was shameful he had interest in you. And what had they said could be the reason? Settling. He was getting desperate. Like that could be the only reason he would want you.
They were right, he could pick anyone. So, why you? You tried really hard not to cry, but you were, you felt it. You sat on the seat of the toilet and rocked back and forth. You couldn't lose it. You were at work. You should hold it in after hours. But this was a lot to take in.
You liked Lee. He had been kind to you. But, you knew he could do better. A wife who could be seen with him, who he could be proud of. Who could look after him and organize dinner parties or talk to people. …Look them in the eyes. You tried. You tried really hard to, but you often forgot.
He couldn't show you off. Or praise you. What was there to praise? People would laugh at you. People would laugh at him.
They would think he chose wrong.
Your eyes shifted left to right, trying to find something safe to focus on. Your heart was racing, and you didn't know what to do to calm down. You wanted your mother. But how could you even reach her from here. Even if you walked to your desk and called her, you were at work! She couldn't help you here. She couldn't do anything to those…wenches! You knew they wanted to hurt you. But, they did. And you couldn't unhear what they said.
You thought long and hard. Lee was going to meet your parents soon. After that it would be official, it would be expected that he was serious about you. But he hadn't seemed too eager to meet them. Perhaps, he wasn't worried they would accept him, but he knew that it would set things in stone. Maybe he was hesitant, because he had never planned to make this step. He was looking for a wife, not a nutjob.
You were trembling now, pressing your fingers to each other, 1, 2, 3 , 4, start again. 1, 2, 3, 4. Over and over, breathing during it. You had to calm down. You had to get through the hours until you could go home.
Lee was going to pick you up. Your eyes shifted away from the door handle. You couldn't face him. You couldn't see the look on his face, knowing he would settle with you. He could have someone better.
The more you thought, the more you knew you were right. And though it pained you, it was only right. And the more you were convinced, the more you calmed down. You would be okay. You were okay all along. You didn't need much.
After you left the bathroom, you walked calmly to your desk. Trying really hard not to look at the three women who loved gossiping about you. Sitting down with your back straight, you picked up a new piece of paper and set to work. After a while, when you were sure the attention was away from you, you picked up the phone and dialed the number.
He picked up, his voice stern until he heard yours.
“You can't pick me up.” You blurted.
“Oh? Why not?” He sounded surprised.
“My mother wants to buy some fabric after work, so I can't.”
“You're going to doll yourself up for me again?” He joked, and you swallowed. No, not anymore.
“I will speak to you soon.” You told him.
He chuckled. “Alright sweetheart, I understand, you're still at work, right? Well, have fun with your momma, although I'll miss you.”
You hummed, not knowing what you could, or should, say. “Have a nice day Lee.”
You hung up. You knew you needed to face him, but not today. Not now you knew what you needed to do.
You finished your work, focusing on every letter, like each of them could pull you through. Until it was fine to leave. You grabbed your coat, feeling worn out and numb. Passing your co-workers without a word. Not that you normally said much to them, but you ignored any goodbye that was thrown your way.
You walked. Like you had always done. The fresh air on your cheeks, the familiar stone under your shoes. You expected to see his car any minute, but he was nowhere to be seen. He trusted you. But you had lied.
You bit your lip. You had lied. But you felt it necessary. Even if it was wrong. You knew you couldn't tell him over the phone, and you weren't ready to face him. It still made you feel bad.
You got home safely, earlier than you were lately. You were used to spending more time with Lee in the car, and now your walk took you home faster than the car would've. Your mother took one look at you and approached you.
“Are you okay?”
You shook your head and burst out crying. She shushed you softly, planting a hand on your shoulder, and when you didn't shrug it away, embraced you with both hands. You pressed yourself against her and sobbed your heart out.
She let you. Didn't ask until you were ready. And once you pulled back, she waited.
“I can't see him anymore.”
She seemed worried. “Did he do something?”
You shook your head. "No. But we can't see each other anymore.”
“You don't like him anymore?” She was curious, but tried to hold herself back.
“We aren't compatible. It wouldn't work. It will be fine.” You suddenly sounded very emotionless. You didn't know how else to tell her. Even if you just broke down in front of her. “I thought…maybe, but it's not going to happen.”
“He said that to you?”
You shook your head. “I know. It's for the better. “
She nodded, didn't seem convinced, but what could she say? She didn't even know who you were talking about. Or what happened.
“Maybe you can work things out? Talk about it.” she suggested.
“Mom, it won't matter.”
“Oh. Okay.” She thought for a moment. It was clear she was distressed for you, but tried to keep it together as she rubbed your shoulder softly. “You want anything, perhaps a glass of lemonade and some cake? Freshly baked, you'll get an extra big piece.”
“Sure.” You could not resist having some comfort food. And there was no use denying yourself. You wanted to indulge yourself in the pleasantries you could have.
-
His car was here. You hesitated, your heart beating out of your chest with how anxious you were, but you needed to be honest. So you stepped in and watched him smile at you.
“Rough day?” he observed you.
“A bit.” You said quietly. You had practiced, but you didn't know how to bring it up, nor how he would react.
“I know how I can make you feel better,” he grinned, his scent thickening again.
You swallowed, you needed to tell him. Now.
“Lee.”
“What?” He frowned, “Something going on?”
“We need to stop seeing each other.”
His hands tightened on the wheel and he went silent real fast. Then, “Why.”
You swallowed. “We don't work out.” Which was the truth, right?
“I think we do. I thought you liked me.”
I do. “We are very different. You are busy with work, and so am I. I can't be what you need me to be. And I don't want to regret anything.”
His jaw ticked, you threw a glance at him but quickly kept looking away. You couldn't face him really. “Where is this coming from? Huh? You were all sweet on me, and now you want to break things off? What's going on?!”
He was aggitated and you ducked your head. You were breaking out in a sweat. You didn't like him angry with you. “I just need space.”
“Space?” His tongue rolled in his mouth and his eyes watched the road, his scent had a bitter taste that felt unpleasant in your nose. “You need space? From me.”
“It's all a little too much. And I don't think we've been thinking clearly.”
“So you've been thinking we need space. From each other? Did anyone say anything? Your parents? They don't approve?”
You shook your head, still looking at your lap. “They don't know. I haven't told them. It's me. I know we can't be together.”
“Bullshit!”
You jumped up at his tone and wanted to cry. He smelled awful right now, and he was really angry, and a part of you wanted to soothe him but how could you? You had to get through to him.
“Lee…”
 “No! Don't you Lee me. Lee is for my girlfriend, if you're not my girlfriend, it's sheriff to you, missy.”
You gulped. “Sheriff,” you mumbled softly.
“You've been leading me on, is that it? Been laughing at me behind my back?”
“No. I wouldn't do that.”
“But you fooled me. Been acting like a good girl, and now you act like I ain't good enough. Thought you were better than that.”
A tear fell down and you wiped it angrily. He was fuming, you have never seen him so angry and you wished you could open the windows to get rid of the smell.
“I can walk.”
“Can't wait to be away from me, can you?” He growled. “No, I'm going to bring you home, because unlike you, I keep my promises.”
You started sobbing, this was terrible. You thought he would understand. Be relieved even. You set him free so he could find a good match. But you hurt his feelings, maybe his pride. And you didn't know how to make it better.
“I'm sorry.” You bit your lip so hard that you tasted blood.
His eyes shot towards you. “You're not, but don't worry, you will be.”
You swallowed, scared. He was the sheriff, he could hurt you.
“It's for the better,” you helplessly said.
“Shut up! I don't want to hear it.” He shouted and you froze.
Eyeing away from him, you looked out the window and didn't spoke another word.
When you arrived at your house, he leaned over you too open the door, his scent hurting in your nose.
“Get out.”
Trembling, you climbed out and he closed the door harshly. He left without another glance. You stood there for a while, staring where he had left out of sight, too afraid to move, until your mother found you and guided you back in. Stroking your hair like you were a little kid, and humming a familiar song to try and ease up your nerves.
Omega retreat : Chapter 6
Pairing : Alpha Bucky x Omega Reader
Warnings : R18, Eventual Smut, Anxiety, Heat cycles, things aren’t what they seem, unwanted attention.
Word count : 1734
Masterlist
Summary : As an unmarked and lonely omega you find a flyer for a service called The Omega Retreat.
You are paired with a compatible alpha to spend your heat or just a week at a luxurious cabin at a forest resort. Amenities and Utilities included. Enjoy the beautiful scenery, fresh air, as well as the company of an alpha of your choosing. What could possibly go wrong?
Tumblr media
You got your affairs in order, took the time off from work, and packed your bags. Now you were simply counting the days until you could see him, and as your heat had already been slowly approaching, there wasn’t much time left.
With each phone and video call, it seemed to be all either of you could talk about. But, when the day finally came, he seemed just as doting as your mother. Although, it was more amusing to hear these things from him than it had been from her.
Your spirits were at their highest, yet as you felt your heat prick at your skin, it left an unnerving feeling in your belly. Having to procure birth control for the first time was nerve-wracking enough, and yet you were already conditioned to fear your body's natural functions.
You try your best to shake the negativity away, even at the last second, as you finish packing your car and are ready to leave.
You're snug in the driver's seat, looking back at your locked front door. A moment all too similar to the day you came home from the hospital, thankful that your mother brought you your car and even more so that you were even alive.
You took a deep breath in and gave a heavy exhale. All before turning to your phone and sitting in the passenger’s seat beside your purse. Another one of Bucky’s messages of encouragement lit across the screen. You felt a stray tear threatening to trickle down your cheek, only to be wiped away with a single drag of your finger.
You quickly pulled your hand from your cheek and threw the car in reverse before rolling out of the driveway and out onto the street.
You were flying on a cloud of determination, feeling airier by the second. It was easy to ignore the subtle rise in your body temperature as you glided towards your destination. It was only during a brief pit stop that you were able to fan at the thin sheen of sweat that had built over your skin.
You needed some gas and maybe a quick snack—nothing that should have delayed you too much. You pulled into a large service gas station off the highway and stopped by one of the pumps before stepping out of the car.
It was still so warm out, with only a small breeze in the air to help cool your skin. You swiped your card, pulled the nozzle, and stuck in the fuel filler to fill the tank as you locked the car and left to find a snack in the adjacent convenience store.
You pulled your phone from your back pocket as you stepped inside. There was a message waiting for you from Bucky, just a little ‘hey, have you left yet?’
You tapped at the screen to type back, just letting him know you’d stopped for gas and still had some distance to cover until you’d be at the resort.
You hope he was excited, and maybe even as nervous as you were to finally see each other.
You tucked the phone away again as you stepped down towards the drink coolers at the back of the store. There were a few cork boards stapled up by the bathrooms, and old business cards for bakeries and auto repair were tucked beside a familiar but faded red flier.
You pulled a soda from the cooler and toed a few steps closer.
You felt a small flutter in your stomach when you read the ‘Omega Retreat’ title. It was almost the same piece of paper that brought you this far, and it was nice to see it again before journeying across the finish line.
You took the paper between two fingers, pulling it forward for a better look. Instead, you found another flier tacked up behind it—another faded picture with much more somber messages.
It was a poster for a missing Omega.
The word was set in bold to convey how dire the situation was. The woman on it was smiling, cracked only by a thin white line in an old bend in the paper. Below was a number to call if you had any information about where she might be, but two of the last digits were too faded to decipher whether it was 78 or 10.
There were always rumors of Omega’s being sought after and even stolen from their homes and families. It was something that you and many others like you hoped was not better than a legend.
The picture was old, leaving no doubt that if this woman hadn’t been found by now, she never would be. It made your stomach drop as you let the paper fall back over top of it.
You felt a familiar sense of unease bubbling in your belly. What if that girl was you? What would that do to your family if they never saw you come home?
You shook your head and wandered back into one of the narrow aisles. You were so tired of feeling scared, and you wanted to only focus on the good things that awaited you. The resort had wonderful reviews, and of course they boasted about safety if anything were to happen. If your prince charming turned out to be a monster in disguise, then you should still be safe.
You paid for your haul of twizzlers and Sprite before finally making it out to your car to drive away. That little gas station disappeared behind you as the road stretched out ahead. It wasn’t incredibly scenic until you approached the property. Green hills and a plush forest line either side of the road before the main building comes into view ahead. It was bigger than you’d expected, but not as rustic as the cabins. It was professional and comfortable.
You pulled into an empty space in the parking lot, taking another breath before cutting the engine and looking back at the building. This was it; he’d be here. An alpha is waiting here just for you.
The air in the car grew thin, and a thick wave of sweat finally started to drip down the back of your neck. It felt as if you could start shaking, and a familiar sense of terror bubbled in your stomach alongside the budding of your heat.
You just breathe, taking in only as much air as necessary before calming your rising nerves. Things would be better; you wouldn’t be alone this time.
You give yourself a small smile before reaching to unbuckle your seatbelt and falling short upon receiving a knock at your car window.
You’d nearly kicked yourself out of the driver's seat upon hearing it. All efforts to soothe your own anxieties are destroyed at the hands of some young employee trying to get your attention.
His face was left red with embarrassment at scaring a guest, and you could barely hear him stuttering out his sorries.
You crack the door, offering an apology for not having seen him.
“I really didn’t mean to scare you, ma’am. We thought maybe you needed some help with your bags.”
“Oh, uh sure.” You pulled yourself out of the car, purse hooked over the bend of your elbow, and keys tight in your hand as you rounded the car towards the back to grab your suitcase for him.
He reeked like a nervous beta, which was oddly reassuring to you. Betas are like a blank slate to heats and ruts and are often helpful mediators, so the little employee’s presence helped to calm you just a little bit. He grabs your suitcase, and you proceed to look at the car doors before following him into the building. It was bigger on the inside than you had expected, lavish and modern at every inch as well. You see the other waiting couples being all lovey-dovey, some awkwardly sweet, and a few with steely faces.
One couple stood out as a redhead and a tall blonde, surrounded by an icy atmosphere. She barely gave him the time of day, and he almost looked like he was gritting his teeth. It put into perspective how meeting strangers might end horribly.
“Go ahead and have a seat; I can take your name and find your reservation.” The employee was quick to steal your attention before showing you to an open chair in the foyer.
“Oh, of course,” you say with a weak smile before giving him the needed information and sitting down in the soft seat as he sets your bags by the chair.
You watched as the little beta shuffled to the front desk as a rogue dribble of sweat ran from your hairline and rounded towards the back of your neck. With all the mixed scents in the air, it seemed to rile up the heat that bubbles beneath your skin, making it spike ever so slightly. You felt like the only heated omega in the room, and it made you more and more self-conscious.
The feeling of budding heat added to the building dread in your belly, a greatly unwanted side effect from years of painful cycles.
But, things would be different this time; you would have someone to carry you through the heat this time. It was the only sentiment that soothed your nerves as you burrowed further into the cushy seat.
You felt a few eyes trailing towards you, several from staff, and most were edged with concern. You watched as that same beta was speaking to another employee at the desk before grabbing one of the phones and pressing it to his ear.
You took a calming breath, understanding that you may have to wait a while after arriving so early. It seemed to be working too, making your scent blossom with a sweet sense of building tranquility. It was a pleasant first for you, but such pleasantries never seemed to last, and as another stranger approached you their robust scent broke your calming bubble.
Long legs brushed past your knees, and as you looked up at their owner, you saw a familiar face.
You’d only seen his profile once before rejecting it, but you couldn’t remember his name. You felt sick to be under his gaze, your stomach twisting from him standing so close.
“Hey there.” He gave you a devilish grin as his brown eyes narrowed down at you.
Everything For You: Part 2
The deep emerald green satin dress had a swooping neckline that accentuates and simultaneously hides the fullness of your breasts. The fabric is complimentary, it embraces your curves in a way that transforms you into a subtle femme fatale, yet it doesn’t cling uncomfortably to you.
The train delicately caressed the floor and off-the-shoulder sleeves were ruched to add detail while the slit on the left side of the dress added sex appeal to the gorgeous gown.
It was a gift from Steph after you denied her the chance to take you shopping she had given you the dress anyway. You needed something for Saturday, and Steph had sent it your way when you confirmed that you would rather show up than be dragged to the party.
You run your hands along the bodice of the dress as you hide away, stealing yourself into one of the many corners you’d traced out in your mind before you had to make your presence known. You’re buying time, that’s all your doing. You know that Jake is already here, you can feel his presence, and you’ve heard the whispers and the expectations that had risen since he left the military to take his rightful place.
You know he’s here, just as you know that there are women and omegas here that are willing to try and steal him. They doubt your bond, they question Jake’s ability to love someone like you, someone of your size and your upbringing in a home with a single mother that divorced your father.
An omega who was plus-sized and broke, an omega who lived in a dank part of town in a rickety building. An omega who spent their time after Jake left, trying to mend your weary heart and soul with random hookups and toxic exes that only made you hate yourself more.
You and Jake were promised to each other when he was ready to take over, but you were not in a relationship. Truly, you didn’t owe loyalty to each other however you chose the worst alphas to be around.
Was it your guilt? Was it all rooted in your anxiousness and desperation since you gave your heart and soul to him?
Was Jake’s missing presence enough to make you lose yourself in their twisted and disgusting comments? Had you reduced yourself to a receptacle for their hollow seed because you felt so empty and lost without him?
You trailed your hands up your chest and neck, your fingernails trapped between your teeth as a coping mechanism. You nibbled on your nails, your eyes unfocused when you listened to the sound of music pouring from the ballroom and footsteps that echoed on the marble floor beyond your hiding place.
Every sound felt like a drum in your head, the crazed sounds coming across with war-like power that rattled your mind. You drew in a sharp breath when you first caught the notes of his scent and immediately felt confused when it was gone again.
“That’s a dirty habit,” he crooned in the dark, his presence behind you startling you as you stumbled back against the wall, trapped behind the luxe curtain that obscured the guests from you.
“Jake,” you shakily exhaled his name, your eyes growing wider the longer he lingered in this small space with you, “you scared me.”
It’s all you could say, all you could muster.
He was there with you, standing to your left in a beautifully designed suit that was fitted across his chest and shoulders. The soft black blend had transformed Jake from the kind of gangly alpha you remembered, even before he left, into a massive beast of a man who towered above you.
His eyes were iridescent blue that sparkled and shone like beacons in the darkened space, just the brief glimmers of his teeth noticeable beneath the curl of his lips.
“You still choose the same hiding places, Princess.” He turned toward you, cornering you against the wall and his body, his hand outstretched to touch the satin of your dress. “Look at you, dressed up-“
“Jake…” your voice trailed off, you were struck silent by the flash of his eyes, the headiness of his gaze and he looked you up and down.
“Aren’t you going to welcome me home, Princess?” He hummed, raising his hand to swipe his thumb across his bottom lip. “I’m home, omega. Your alpha’s back, and that means that you and I have a lot of planning to do.”
You saw it, the gentle nature of himself hovering beneath the shell of the toughened act. He was planning your future, like all the times he had before, only now those plans for the future would be solidified.
“Any chance you would change your mind? Find someone else—?” You barely get the words out before Jake steps forward and presses you against the wall, one hand resting directly above your head trapping you, and the other resting on your lower back.
“I’ve dreamed of this moment for too long, I’ve waited and wanted you for too damn long to let this pass.” Jake nudged your head to the side to gain access to your scent glands, his tongue and teeth lapping and nipping.
“Whine for me, Princess.” He groaned against your flesh, wantonly and desperate. “I still remember the clench of your walls, the heat of you squeezing me. Fuck, I want to hear you again.”
Jake paused and within a moment he had relaxed, breathing softly against your skin. He placed both hands on your hips, holding you steady as he breathed your scent in.
“I missed you,” Jake admitted the weighty confession against the crook of your neck, breathing in and out against you, his hands stroking your satin-covered hips just to get you and his scent on his body, “I missed you, Princess.”
You leaned into him and turned your head, resting your cheek against his shoulder. All the skewed and marred words that had been fired against each other felt as if it was nothing compared to feeling him against you. Everything in the past, every bad decision and crooked, harrowed word had become something of the past.
It was Jake and you, it was the alpha you used to play hide and seek with, the alpha that you used to cause trouble with.
He was no longer a boy, he was a man and an alpha who was about to have the world at his fingertips. He was about to take the reins and take control of three states, an entire empire under his feet.
He was about to take on a role that he was well suited for, a role that he was meant to take on but that had also tied into you. You had known since you were younger that you and Jake were meant for one another, no matter how you had wandered or what you had done, Jake was always the endgame. It would always be you and it would always be him.
The few alphas between his departure for the army and the stint where he had come back and even to his permanent return home, none of it mattered in the end. Jake would have you, perfect or imperfect, broken and cracked or completely whole.
You knew Jake had been with other women too, you didn’t need any confirmation from him verbal or otherwise, you had just known. He didn’t talk about it, he had kept it completely to himself without a single mention of any omegas he had met over there.
It wasn’t just him sparing your feelings, it was because none of them had truly mattered in the end, just as the alpha you were with hadn’t mattered. It might as well have dust on the wind, a scattered memory that had nothing to hook onto.
“I missed you, too.” You muttered, your cheek resting on his shoulder while he kept you pressed to his body, holding you tightly against him as if he would lose you again. “Jake, I…”
You swallowed your words and he pulled away, his eye searching your own. It was a back-and-forth between this darker and more possessive part of him and the dorky sunshine alpha you knew so well from childhood.
He had the penchant ability to be both, to do both, and you had already seen one. The way that he had spoken of you and your body, of your heat that gripped him, it was rooted in this insatiable hunger that affected you just as it had him. It was the darker part of him that made him threaten to hunt you down if it was necessary, just as that darker part had taken hold of him when he found you with that alpha.
“I wouldn’t have cared how many other alphas you slept with, I wouldn’t have cared if it was the same one over and over, but why…” Jake grit his teeth, his eyes flashing in the darkened space and the glint of the chain tucked under his dress shirt had drawn your eye.
“Why did you settle for them? For those alphas who thought…Princess, why the fuck would you let them talk to you that way?”
“Jake please-“
“Don’t,” he growled, that slip of darkness taking hold of him again, “make excuses for them. You’re mine, you’ve always been mine and they didn’t respect you. Fuck, I would drop to my knees right now and show you how much you mean to me, how fucking gorgeous you are and yet you let them walk all over you.”
“I didn’t want someone that treated me like—“ You clamped down on your tongue and averted your eyes, the sharp sting of your nails digging into your palms was a placeholder for your screaming frustrations.
“You didn’t want someone to treat you like I treated you?” Jake had straightened himself out, hands busying themselves by fixing the tie looped around his neck.
You listened to him inhale and exhale slowly, as a means to calm himself or maybe to gulp down your scent, in the end, it didn’t matter.
“Well, now I’m back.” Jake fixated his eyes upon you in such a way that you were left frozen, unable to breathe or speak while your heart hammering in your chest. “And I’m taking what’s mine.”
He leaned in with that vibrant possession and protectiveness that warmed your belly and made you entirely too aware of how he affected you. He swept his eyes over you and smirked, taking you and your appearance in inch by inch, then he reached out and stroked your cheek with the back of his hand.
“I have something for you.” He kept one hand on your cheek and the other had slipped into his pocket for only a few seconds before he pulled out a sleek white gold chain with a pendant hanging off the end, and two solid initials, both of which bared his scent.
“Turn around, Princess.” Jake let the command slip, and it settled beneath your skin instantly. You had turned your back to him, inhaling sharply when the metal was placed against your neck and his lips brushed the shell of your ear. “My initials resting against your pretty neck.”
He delicately kissed your cheek, his lips lingering as he settled his hands upon your hips once more, and you were met by his strong chest flush against your back.
“We should go greet our guests,” Jake was everything you had remembered, and everything you wanted, “welcome them to the party celebrating the start of our engagement.”
“Engagement?” You looked at him over your shoulder, seeing the balance of your loveable and dorky alpha, and the dangerous future head of the mafia.
“We’re promised to each other, Princess. This is as much of a welcome home as it is a celebration of our future marriage.” Jake mumbled softly in your ear, humming pleasantly. “Do you want a ring? You can wear mine until I can get one for you.”
Your breath was bated, your heart was thrashing in its cage and you were warmed by Jake’s chest against your back.
“I missed you,” he repeated himself, nuzzling his cheek against you, “my beautiful omega.”
Cherry Red, Crimson Blood
Chapter 35: Threads
Summary: Pack bonds are made up of delicate threads, small fibers webbing together the dynamics and relationships that make up each individual pack. The omega stands in the middle, holding the pieces together, keeping the pack from crumbling by clinging to those threads like a strongman holds pillars up with chains.
Pairings: Poly 141 x reader
Word Count: 11,740 words
Warnings: Alpha/Beta/Omega dynamics, Alternate Universe, angst, descriptions of physical pain, brief description of drowning, medical stuff, panic, crying, panic attacks, nightmares, PTSD, very heavy emotions, alcohol and brief mention of alcoholism, language, fighting (not physically), Kyle being the best boy, aftermath of trauma, brief mentions of the events of the previous chapter, guilt and shame, angst, and finally some comfort after the hurt (but not quite what you'd expect)
A/N: So I may have been slightly wrong, the angst isn't over, but it's not quite as intense as it has been. There are little tidbits of comfort in this one, though it's not like "okay it's over, let me wrap you in this blanket and everything is fine and happy now". It's...you'll see. If you're waiting for the fine and happy comfort then...you might want to wait a few chapters still. The comfort will come on slowly, but it has officially started.
Screaming.
Someone is screaming.
It hurts your ears, high-pitched and ringing. Your hands cover them, but even that can’t block out the sound.
It’s ringing in your own head.
Your body hurts, every joint and muscle aching and throbbing. They’ve been locked in place too long, frozen in one position, a safe position. Safety. That’s what you’re seeking, that’s what you’re trying to find. That’s why you’re here.
This isn’t a safe space anymore.
The walls are crumbling, the darkness is fading. There’s light seeping in, threatening to pull you out, make you face whatever is waiting on the other side. It’s not a comforting light, it’s bright and piercing and threatening. You don’t want to leave the darkness. You don’t want to face the light. You want to stay there, stay frozen, stay safe.
Your throat burns, raw and painful with every breath.
It’s you.
You’re screaming.
Tumblr media
Hands are flying, mouth open in a scream. It’s a horrible sound, grating and feral sounding. Your body twists and turns as they try to hold you down. No restraints. You’ll just hurt yourself more.
Blood is flying, splattering on the gurney, the floor, the walls. Yours or someone else’s? It’s hard to tell.
Simon.
“Simon!”
He snaps out of his daze, his eyes darting up to look at Dr. Keller across the gurney. Her hand is around his wrist, your elbow knocking against his forearm as you try to fight whatever it is you think you’re seeing. Maybe you’re seeing nothing at all.
“I know.” Dr. Keller’s voice is soft despite the chaos of the moment. Her gaze is firm but comforting. She knows. “I need you to hold her still. She’s going to hurt herself further if she can’t calm down.”
She’s going to hurt someone else too.
The monitors are beeping and screaming. They managed to get a blood pressure cuff around your arm before you snapped out of the daze he’d put you in and started fighting. You’re like a wild animal, cornered and fighting for your life again with a renewed vigor. Renewed for now. If you don’t calm down again, something will give out.
There won’t be any coming back from that.
“Don’t be afraid if you hurt her.” Dr. Keller says, squeezing his wrist. “Bones can be fixed.”
He catches your wrists in his hand, pinning them down against your chest. He uses his weight to his advantage, pushing his arm into you as he leans down so you’re face to face. You let out another scream, fighting against him but he has you beat. He’s bigger, stronger, calmer.
“Look at me.” He says, his alpha rumbling low in his chest. It has even the beta nurses stopping in their tracks to look at him. The only one unaffected is Dr. Keller as she uses this moment to her advantage.
You stop fighting him, breathing in heavy gasps as you stare right up into his eyes. Wild and untamed, pupils dilated in your aggressive state. Dilated out of aggression or dilated out of fear? Perhaps both. Beads of sweat slide down your face, your body hot under his. It mixes with the blood on your skin, blood from your own injuries and from the Shadows you killed. Your cheek is bruised, discolored from broken blood vessels. Your left eye will swell shut soon. He needs to get you calm before then.
It’s almost cute, the way you bare your teeth up at him. He might have thought it cute in a different setting, if your life wasn’t dangling over a ledge right now. A low growl rumbles in your chest, a warning that has his own hackles raising. He bares his teeth back, an answering growl, deeper and angrier, rumbles in his own chest. The nurses take a step back. Even Dr. Keller pauses at the sound.
Yet, despite the threat in his growl, it doesn’t deter you one bit. Your knee drives into his side, making him grunt from the impact, but he doesn’t let up. You’re fighting him again, trying to wiggle your way out of his hold. If he pushes any harder, he might break a rib. You’re going to break something if you don’t stop.
You’re too far gone to recognize anything but fear and danger. You’re only going to fight, only going to attack anything you perceive as a threat. You won’t even recognise him. He has to get you to calm down before you have a heart attack. He considers getting one of the nurses to bring Johnny in, but there’s no guarantee that will work. You’ll just perceive him as another threat, another danger. More people in the room will only make you more aggressive...make your omega more aggressive.
He’s not dealing with you. He’s dealing with your omega in her raw form, the animal deep underneath forced out of her hiding place. Whoever said omegas are weak never had to face one in this state.
He stares down at you as you fight and scream, battering his side with your knees but he can hardly feel the pain. His arm is still throbbing where you bit him, but he can hardly see the blood streaked on his skin.
He has to save you.
He can’t let all of this go to waste.
They’ll never recover if they lose you now.
He moves almost seamlessly, time seeming to slow as he lets you go. He unclips his vest and rips it over his head in one movement, uncaring as it hits the floor with a heavy thud. You lunge up at him but he’s ready, catching you before your lower body can leave the gurney. It’s a risk. A huge risk, but it’s all he can think of doing. It’s hardly the worst place to be if things go wrong, if this fails. If he does fail, at least he’ll know he tried.
He pushes his mask up to his chin, pressing your face right into his neck.
Your nose pushes against his scent gland as he cups the back of your head, holding you there. He projects his scent as strong as he can, hoping it can reach some deep part of your mind, some glimmer of you that’s left in there.
If this goes wrong, you’ll rip out skin and veins with your teeth. He’ll bleed out on the floor before they can even get him on a gurney.
He wraps his other arm around you, holding you as still as he can. Tears prick his eyes as he holds you, shoving away the beeping machines, the panic still thrumming inside of him. Scruffing you was only round one of this fight. He should have held it longer, should have been brave enough to do it a second time.
He can still feel it, your neck in his hand, the way you gave in so easily. You had no choice, he gave you none. It was necessary, it was vital that he did it. You wouldn’t have made it this far if he hadn’t.
He should do it again. It would be easy, just slip his hand down and squeeze and you’ll be gone, lost in your head again and under his control. Maybe then he’d get you to calm down, get you out of this state and free from the danger looming closer and closer.
Heart attack, stroke, organ failure.
Why couldn’t Price be the one to go after you? Why couldn’t it be Price standing here making this decision.
“I’m sorry.” He whispers before slipping his hand down, wrapping it around the back of your neck again.
Pain.
You’re in pain.
You try to fade away again, try to push yourself back into the darkness to avoid the pain, but you can’t.
There’s no escaping it.
Your body hurts, every joint and muscle throbbing. Fire licks at your very cells, burning hot through your veins, scorching your skin. Safety. You want safety again. You want to retreat back into yourself, back into the comfort only the darkness can offer you.
Nowhere is safe anymore.
Tears are rolling down your cheeks, the light pressing closer and closer. It’s somewhere above you, shining down in offending shades of white. You can see it behind your eyelids no matter how hard you try to squeeze them together. There’s no escaping this light. There’s no retreating back into safety. There’s no safety anymore.
You’re underwater, slowly rising to the surface. There’s sounds around you, muffled and dampened by the water. You need to breathe, you need to inhale precious oxygen but you can’t get to the surface fast enough. Lungs burning, your fingers claw at the water but you can’t reach it, you can’t swim fast enough.
Your hands curl into soft fabric as you cough, choking on imaginary water. There’s warmth surrounding you, pressed in on all sides. You’re leaning against something, something hard and solid and warm. The sounds are louder now, mixing into a convoluted cocktail of constant noise. You hate it.
Pain ripples through your throat as you let out a groan, the sound catching and cracking on the rough edges of your vocal chords. Another choked sound leaves your lips, pain rippling through your very nerves. The skin on your face is burning, simmering ashes being fanned by every tear sliding down your cheeks.
You’re crying.
There’s a deep sound coming from under you. It’s vibrating against your body, your pulsing ears focusing on that sound. It’s familiar. You’ve heard it before, somewhere back in the recesses of your mind.
Your mind.
It’s there. You can feel it beginning to take shape, thoughts beginning to form out of the fractured darkness. You’re not in your mind anymore, your mind is in you. You’re a being inside of a body, a body wracked with pain. The urge to retreat back is strong, but you can’t. That part of you has been closed off, sealed away by the light.
Fingers and toes twitch, tingling and throbbing with the cold despite the fire blazing its way through your veins. It is cold, your hand pulling at the softness you’re clinging to. The low vibration begins again, rumbling through you, igniting something in the back of your mind.
You know it. It’s familiar.
Something tingles in the back of your mind, starting to come to life. Despite the agony there’s something in there, something warm and comforting. There’s no name for it, no thought flashing through the swirling mass of neurons slowly taking shape. It’s soft and warm and whispering to you.
Wake up.
Wake up.
Wake up!
Your eyes open before you can stop them. You’re immediately blinded, eyes throbbing from the bright white light above you, a high pitched whine leaving your lips. It rattles through your throat, broken and squeaking through your shredded trachea. You clench your eyes shut again, wincing away from the intrusive light, the movement sending a bolt of pain through your body like an electric shock. You let out another garbled sound, your fist tugging on the fabric it’s clenching.
“I know, I’m sorry sweetie.” A voice says, the light disappearing before another takes its place, softer and lighter and less painful.
Your eyes crack open again, still throbbing despite the light being removed. Your entire body is throbbing, pulsing like an exposed nerve. You feel like an exposed nerve, weak and vulnerable. It triggers something deep in your brain, the light starting to dim. Something is rising, something is coming. You want to lay back, let it take over, let it take control. You want to sink into the darkness again. The darkness is safe, the darkness is secure.
The beeping is getting louder. Beeping, that’s what that sound is. There’s something beeping. It’s getting faster and faster. You’re starting to go numb, the tingling in your fingers and toes fading away. It’s not so cold anymore, the ache in your limbs fading into oblivion. You’re fading into oblivion.
“Oi! None of that.”
You’re awake. You let out a disgruntled sound as the warmth and comfort leaves you, deserting you in favor of retreating into the recesses of your mind again. A shiver runs down your spine, your very skin tingling with pinpricks of pain as it goes.
“Open your eyes again for me, love.”
Your body moves before you can tell it not to, your eyes fluttering open again. You’re squinting despite the bright light being gone. Any light is too much, your mind seeking out the comforting darkness once more.
Darkness makes you vulnerable.
In the dark, you’re blind to things that may be hiding there.
No.
No more darkness.
You want the light.
Scents flood your brain as your eyes fully open, slamming into you like a wave. It’s too much, nearly choking you again as you try to register everything. The burning scent of sterilizer, the soft scent of clean linens, the harsh scent of chemicals. There’s a soft scent mixing in with the others, something easing the turmoil in your mind just slightly. Above all else, though, is the intense smell of leather and something soft and fresh. It overpowers almost all of them, standing out distinctly. It makes your nose throb, something tickling in the back of your mind. You’re afraid of the scent, yet...there’s something else. Something...familiar.
“Back with us yet?” The sound rumbles under you again.
“Nearly there.” Another voice says. “Heart rate is coming down again. Still feverish, though.”
You’re suddenly aware of your body again, the pains, the aches, the burning, the cold. You’re trembling, your skin prickling from how cold it is. You try to press forward against the warmth in front of you, but the movement has pain slashing through your very cells. Another pathetic whine tears through your throat, every movement sending stabbing pain through your very being.
“C...C-Cold.” You manage to croak out, the word forming clumsily on your tongue. It feels heavy, like you’re relearning how to speak.
“I know.” The softer voice says, something dragging across your skin. “We’re trying our best.”
Something moves against your back, dragging against your skin. Whatever it is, it’s warm, but it’s rough. You push into it, something telling you to get closer, to wrap yourself in it and let it suffocate you. Somehow it’s comforting to you, somehow it’s familiar.
Slowly thoughts and sensations begin to return to you, your mind dragging itself from the depths it had sunk into.
It was purposeful.
You did it to save yourself.
You’re shaking for a different reason now, suddenly aware of the parts of your body that ache the most. Your shoulder, your cheek, your throat, your wrists. There’s a deep chill that has settled in your bones, sinking past the fever and the pain, past the memories beginning to resurface, past the hopelessness and the anger and the fear.
“Simon?” You croak out, the name burning its way through your dry throat. You desperately want something to drink, anything to ease the burning desert in your mouth.
“It’s me, love.” The sound rumbles under you again.
Leather. Eucalyptus. Warmth. Alpha.
You groan, trying to shift closer but the tensing of your muscles has pain screaming through your body. A shuddering breath leaves your lips, your body tensing until it passes.
“Try not to move too much.” The other voice says, a hand coming to rest on your arm. You’re still clutching Simon’s sweatshirt in your hand like it’s the only thing keeping you tethered to this earthly plane.
It might be.
“Dr. Keller?” You croak out, recognizing that voice.
“I’m here too sweetie.” She says somewhere behind you. “Take it easy, you’ve had a rough go of it.”
She’s not wrong.
The memories are coming back slowly, each one playing through your head like an episode of some fucked up television show. Except, it isn’t a television show. It’s your life.
You hate it.
“John?” You ask, trying to get your tongue to work, but you desperately need water.
“Probably yelling at every person who crosses his path.” Simon says. “He was blazing a path to hell and back earlier trying to get ahold of anyone he could yell at involved in this.” He rubs your back. “He’ll be here as soon as he’s calmed down. Kyle and Johnny are working overtime trying to help restrain him.”
You'll always be a second thought.
“You?” You ask, unable to form the whole question you want to ask. Why are you here and not with your pack?
He's quiet for a moment. “We got here before John and Kyle did.” His hand stills against your back, palm pressing below your shoulder blades. “You wouldn't let anyone close to you. The doc said it's normal, coming out of that state. I had to help keep you calm so you could get patched up. Then you wouldn't let me leave.”
Your fingers ache from how hard they're gripping his sweatshirt. He stayed. He's the one here with you, not your alpha.
You let out a groan, the pain starting to intensify. There’s a throbbing in your calf, and a deep ache starting to pulse in your joints. You’re almost glad for it, the turmoil in your mind starting to twist and fog your thoughts pushed aside in favor of the pain screaming at the forefront of your brain.
“Time for more pain medicine.” Dr. Keller says somewhere behind you. “You’ll probably get sleepy, but rest is what you need right now.”
You let out another groan, pressing your face back against Simon’s chest. Despite the pain in your body, there’s an even deeper ache in your chest. It’s not a physical one. Your alpha isn’t here. He’s left you again, abandoned you in favor of something else, something he deems more important.
Tears are brimming in your eyes as they slip closed, the exhaustion and the drowsiness from the pain medicine taking over.
Tumblr media
It’s not quite so cold when you wake up next. It’s brighter in the room, the light not quite so artificial as it had been the first time. There’s no body against yours, no warmth seeping into your skin or scent in your nose. Your fingers twitch, almost like they want to seek it out again.
You’re alone.
You let out a quiet breath, your brows furrowing. Your shoulder aches, throbbing in time with the beep of the heart monitor. It hurts less to move as you shift your arm to itch the other. It’s horribly itchy, but your fingers meet gauze instead.
Right. Phil had cut you there. Not very deep, but still deep enough to hurt. Just another injury to add to the list.
You try to lift your arm but burning pain shoots through your shoulder. You wince, letting out a quiet moan of pain as you drop it back into the bed. You breathe as the pain shoots through you, swirling through your veins before it begins to settle.
“You shouldn’t try to move too much.” A voice cuts through the silence.
Your head whips to the side, your arm shooting out to grip the side rail as pain burns through your body like lava. It seeps slowly from your left shoulder down to your toes and into your very hair follicles. You let out another groan of pain, your eyes squeezing closed as you wait for it to pass.
“Sorry.” The voice says softly. “I suppose that didn’t help any.”
You open your eyes, still breathing heavily as the pain begins to fade. Your hand is still wrapped around the side rail as you stare at John. He’s seated next to the bed, his elbows on his knees as he stares at you. He looks tired, eyes puffy with dark circles around them. He’s in a simple green shirt and cargo pants, yet he’s not quite as put together as he normally is. His hair is sticking up in different directions, his beard scruffier than normal. There’s a faint pink line of what was probably once a cut on his cheek.
It’s the first time you’ve seen him in weeks.
You should be happy.
You should be ecstatic.
You should be relieved.
Yet, all you can feel is pain and anger and betrayal.
“There’s nothing I can say that will make this better.” He says, his voice rougher than usual, even after returning from a deployment. His eyes shine with emotion. You hate it. “There’s nothing I can say that will undo what happened.” He runs a hand over his mouth, letting out a breath through his nose. “This shouldn’t have happened in the first place. We should have known better, we should have questioned it.” He shakes his head. “We put too much trust in those above us, and we were all fooled.”
Tears blur your eyes as you stare at him. He’s not just talking about Shepherd and the initiative. He’s talking about you too.
“I regret it more than any decision I’ve ever made. I’ll regret it for the rest of my life,” He continues. “You put your trust in me, and I failed you. I let this happen to you because I got too caught up thinking about the greater good of the pack and I ignored what was right in front of me. You’re here because of me, because of the decisions I made. I had one job, and now you’re paying for my failure.”
He pauses for a moment, tears shining in his own eyes. You should feel surprise, sympathy, something. All you can feel is hatred. He doesn’t deserve to cry over you. He doesn’t deserve this chance to try and explain himself to you, to try and give excuses for his actions. He made his choice. He made it very clear where his loyalties lie, where they’ve always been, where that line was laid before he even claimed you. It was never about you. Nothing was ever about you. It was always the initiative, and then when the initiative turned out to be false, it was about the ‘greater good’. You should have been the greater good. You should have been their focus. Instead they all betrayed you.
They betrayed you in the end.
“I made a bad call.” He continues on. “I shouldn’t have left you there. I shouldn’t have made that decision. It never would have played out how I thought it would in my head at that moment. Now you’re here, like this, because I made a stupid mistake.”
He stares at you for a long moment, as if he’s waiting for you to say something, as if you  should have something to say in response. He’s waiting for an acceptance to his half-assed apology, as if his words can somehow undo the pain, the burning in your wrists, the throbbing in your shoulder, the agony every time you simply move a limb. As if his half-assed apology can somehow undo the weeks of depression and anguish and the worry and the fear. As if his half-assed apology can make up for the way they all cut you off, treating you like a traitor before abandoning you. As if his half-assed apology can undo the hours and hours of torment and pain the man you once thought of as a family friend unleashed on you all because of them.
The hatred burns almost as hot as the lava in your veins, so hot you’re surprised the tear that slides down your cheek doesn’t start steaming. Your heart rate is picking up again, the monitor beeping with the sound of the anger simmering inside of you. The blood pressure cuff squeezes around your arm, a grunt of pain cracking in your throat.
“Yeah,” You say, your voice hardly more than a whisper. You turn your head away from him, wincing as an electric shock of pain jolts through you from the motion. You drop your hand from the side rail before he can touch you, tucking your arm back under the rough blanket. “You did.”
You have nothing more to say to him.
Tumblr media
John enters the room solemnly, the silence nearly palpable as they all wait in anticipation. They’re all looking at him, waiting patiently for their captain, their alpha, to speak. They always look to him, they always rely on him, they always trust him and now look where he’s led them. So rarely does he make the wrong decision, so rarely does he lead them astray.
What happened this time?
Why did he so easily turn them away from you? Why did he so easily turn his back on you?
What words are there to say? He knew his words would do little to calm the raging storm inside of you, the hurt and the pain and the betrayal they put you through all because of him.
The rejection still hurts, but it should. They all rejected you as soon as they left you behind.
It’s only a fraction of the pain you must be feeling.
“How is she?” Kyle asks, breaking the tense silence.
“Upset.” He sighs, sinking down in a chair.
“Fuckin’ sure she is.” Johnny snaps, anger radiating off of him in steaming waves. He’s been on edge, they all have, since the four of them were reunited. He had been there, stuck in the hall as you screamed and fought. He thought the worst when your screams cut off until he was finally updated by one of the nurses leaving the room. “Of course she doesnae want to see any of us! We just fucking left her, just like that, and it was your fuckin’ fault!”
Simon grabs his beta before he can throw a fist at John, holding him back. Johnny lets out a string of curses none of them understand, fighting against his alpha. Simon holds him tightly, the image of your bloody form fighting against him still at the forefront of his mind. He grips Johnny tightly, muscles straining. Johnny is bigger. Johnny is stronger.
He has half a mind to let him go.
John doesn’t move, doesn’t even flinch as Johnny yells and rages. He’d welcome a good beating right now. He could use some physical pain to distract from the ache in his chest.
“Calm down,” Kyle says, getting in Johnny’s face. “I said calm down!” Kyle yells, Johnny stilling for a moment. It’s not often Kyle raises his voice at one of them. “We’re not doing any good being upset with each other. We all made mistakes over these last few weeks, especially these past few days. None of us are guilt free in this. We all have our omega’s blood on our hands. Fighting amongst ourselves will only fray the bonds more than they already have been.”
Johnny deflates with a sigh, standing there in Simon’s arms for a moment. Kyle is right. They all can feel it, the way their bonds are fraying. Their pack is resting on a dangerous ledge, tipping back and forth with every strong emotion, every argument, every sour feeling. They’re all holding onto that bond, trying to pull it back to keep it from falling into the abyss. As angry as they are with each other, just one of them letting go will be the end of the pack.
“There’s nothing we can do to change what happened.” John says, looking up at the other three. “Kyle’s right. I led us all in the wrong direction, but we can’t go back and change it. We can’t undo what happened to us, we can’t undo what we did, we can’t undo what we...” He lets out a breath. “What I let happen to our omega.”
“She won’t trust us again.” Simon says, his hands still shaking as he releases Johnny. They haven’t stopped shaking since he scruffed you a second time.
“She won’t.” John affirms, no matter how badly it hurts him. “She won’t forgive us either. The best we can do is to give her what she needs, what she wants. Right now that’s space. Dr. Keller will keep us updated as things develop.” He pushes himself up to stand, looking at each member of his team, of his pack. They all share the same guilty look on their faces, they all hold the same anger at themselves deep inside. “This may be the hardest mission we’ve ever had. No matter what we feel...none of that matters anymore. What matters is keeping our pack together. What matters is that we keep those bonds from fraying. We lose ourselves, we lose everything.”
Tumblr media
“Still sore?”
You nod, wincing as it sends a bolt of pain through your body.
“I know.” Dr. Keller says, adjusting the ice pack on your shoulder. “Hurts like a bitch, but luckily it won’t cause any lasting damage.”
You blink at Dr. Keller, staring at her for a beat. You don’t think you’ve ever heard her curse before. You’re not sure she was ever capable of it.
“What? I use swear words. Sometimes.” She says, almost like she can read your thoughts. “Sometimes expletives fit the moment better than any flouncy, sophisticated words do. This feels like the proper situation to use some.” She lets out a sigh. “Your shoulder will be the worst of the pain, at least physically. The mental pain...well, that’s not something I can treat with pain medicine. Shouldn’t, would be the proper wording there.”
Some people do use it to numb the pain.
“We all made a lot of bad decisions these last few days. Your support system, those you were supposed to be able to trust, failed you.” She stares down at you, emotion shining in her eyes. It’s a mirror of John’s own stare when he’d looked at you, but this time there’s no anger burning inside of you. Dr. Keller didn’t betray you. Dr. Keller will mean her apology, because you know that’s what’s coming. “I know you’ve probably heard this a lot over the last few hours, but I am sorry too. I shouldn’t have left you alone like that. I shouldn’t have fallen for that phone call...I should have been there.”
You stare up at her, tears pooling in your eyes. If she had stayed, things would have been worse. It was almost better she left you. You can’t lose her. You need her now more than you ever did.
Tears streak a flaming path down your face, a choked sob tearing its way through your trachea up through your lips. It burns your throat, no amount of water you’ve had in the last few hours has been able to ease the ache that’s taken up permanent residence there.
Graves choked you. It’s the bruising from his hand squeezing your windpipe making you ache. Your voice may never recover, may never go back to normal. Crying hurts, hurts more than just your mind, your chest. It hurts your whole body, yet you can’t stop.
“I know, I know.” She says, petting your hair as you sob. “I’m not going anywhere this time. We’ll get through this, okay? It’ll be a long road, but you won’t be walking it alone. You’ve got me, and you’ve got your pack.”
Your gaze hardens at the mention of your pack, the sob in your throat coming out almost as an angry grunt. The thought of them makes your chest ache, the pain of their betrayal burning hot in you. “I don’t want them.” You whisper.
“I don’t blame you.” Dr. Keller says, leaning against the side rail of your bed. “They let you down. The betrayed your trust in a lot of ways. They made you feel abandoned, and then abandoned you when you needed them most, even if they thought they were doing the right thing at the time. You have every right to be angry at them, upset with them. They hurt you in the worst way they could.” She pulls the blanket higher over you, tucking you in. “You’ve gone through a lot these last few days. Some very traumatic events, on top of being injured and your body going through extreme stress. You’re exhausted in every way you can be. Rest first. Worry about everything else later. Doctor’s orders.”
“I did it to myself.” You say before she can walk away.
She turns back to look at you. “What?”
“I made myself distress.” You say. “I made my omega come out.”
“That was very brave of you.” She says, giving you a soft smile. “Sometimes we have to take drastic measures even knowing the risks. You did what you had to in the moment and I think it was the right choice. You didn’t know what was going to happen, what was happening. Things worked out and you’re still here. That’s all that matters.”
You think about her words for a moment. You did make it out. The fact you’re here means someone found you, someone saved you. Someone scruffed you.
“It was Simon, wasn’t it?” You ask, even though you already know the answer to that.
You wouldn’t let him leave.
“You’ll have to ask him for the whole story, but yes. He’s the one that rescued you.” She adjusts the blanket around you again. “Get some rest.” She moves the call button closer. “I’m on the other end of that button if you need me.”
You stare up at the ceiling after she leaves, counting the tiles above you. It looks like every other ceiling you’ve ever seen in a doctor's office or clinic or hospital. It’s not all that different from the ceiling in the med center on base.
Base.
You don’t ever want to see that place again. You don’t want to step foot in the barracks, you don’t even want to think about the clinical sterility of the buildings and the cold comfortless spaces meant for nothing more than to serve their purpose. Just like you. You served your purpose. You proved their point, even if it was never the true point of the initiative. Packs will get stronger with an omega, but it will come at the detriment of that omega.
The job always comes first.
There was a time you thought perhaps it wouldn’t. Maybe they could put it all behind them  and put themselves first, put you first. Then they proved they can’t. They won’t even put you first when you’re at the threat of being tortured. You were hurt because they wouldn’t put you first. You are hurt because they wouldn’t put you first.
You don’t care about them. You don’t care about their excuses. You don’t care about the bonds or the claims or the emotions.
You’d be happy if they left you here. Just a few days ago you were panicking about them leaving you, about them deciding you weren’t enough and abandoning you.
Now you wish they would.
“Has she said anything?”
“Not much.” He sighs. “She won’t see any of us. I can hardly blame her.”
“You made a choice, John.” Kate says, hands wrapped around her cup of coffee. “Choices have consequences.”
“You were right. Then again, you usually are.” He sips at his tea. Bitter without milk, but then again, he’d prefer a glass of whiskey right now over tea. “I don’t know how to fix this.”
“I don’t think you can.” Kate takes a sip of her coffee. “She’s going to decide when she wants you to fix this, if she wants you to fix it.”
John lets out a sigh. “We’re her pack, it’s our job-”
“You’ve failed at your job.” Kate says, her gaze hardening as she stares at him. “You’re good at being a soldier, you’re good at being a leader, you’re good at saving the world, but that’s not your only job. You have a responsibility to take care of your omega, and you failed. You made your choice, and you turned your back on her. She’s not a soldier, John. She’s never been tortured, she’s never been left for dead, she’s never taken a life before and here she’s been through all of that in the span of two days. You made a choice, John. You made a choice knowing damn well what the consequences would be.”
He sits in silence, staring at Kate. It’s not often she gets mad at him, the frustration evident on her face. It’s a mirror of the anger and disappointment on the faces of his packmates. They’re all feeling the weight of his decision, of his mistakes. They’re all feeling the weight of their rapidly fraying bonds.
“You have a choice to make now, John.” She stares at him pointedly. “You pick up the pieces from this, you all take the time to recover and heal. Then what? Things aren’t as simple as we thought they were, John. None of us knew what was going to happen. We were all so focused on the potential benefits that we all overlooked just how much of a detriment this would be. Your omega hasn’t had a choice in anything in her entire life. Every decision has been made for her, whether or not she wanted it. She has had no say in any of this. She’s been nothing more than a variable in an experiment, a statistic, a number, a list of pros and cons. She’s been reduced down to nothing more than an object.”
John winces at her words, the weight on his shoulders growing heavier and heavier. He’s treated you as nothing more than an object, even if not directly. Leaving you so easily, yelling at you when you made an innocent mistake, letting you be tortured because he couldn’t get his head out of his own arse.
“We all know she’s more than that. Far more than that. But she will never have any say in anything, unless you let her. Outside of your pack, she has nothing. In your pack? She should have the loudest voice.” Kate leans her arms on the table, shifting closer to him. “Right now she has no voice because you’ve proven where your loyalties lie, and they’re not with her. You have one more decision to make, John. Do you keep standing where you are, put the job first and wear your omega down until she’s nothing but an empty shell? Or, do you take this chance while you have it and finally put her first?”
Kate pushes herself up to stand, grabbing her cup of coffee. John’s not used to feeling small. He’s used to being in charge, being the captain, being in control. People look to him, they listen to him, he’s the one everyone turns to when things go to shit to lead them out.
He’s not even capable of doing that anymore.
“Your life as you knew it ended as soon as she was placed in your pack. It’s up to you to decide how it continues.” Kate leaves with those heavy parting words, the door clicking shut behind her.
John stares down at his cup of tea, the cup half full, or perhaps half empty depending on how one looks at it. It feels more than half empty now, spilling slowly through some microscopic hole in the side. It’ll only be so long before that hole will widen, worn down by the weak paper the cup is made of, the liquid eating away at the cup until there’s nothing but a puddle of tea on the table, slowly rolling towards the edge to dip onto the floor.
That microscopic hole started as soon as they left you alone for the first time, and none of them were aware enough to even notice it.
That hole is a gaping wound now. The contents inside turned acidic as soon as he cut you off in his disappointment, as soon as he started digging into the belly of the initiative. That acid has been eating away slowly at the fragile bonds that were in place. Fragile. They really were. No matter how strong they all thought those bonds were growing to be, they were built with fear and anxiety and uncertainty. Uncertainty of the future and what it may hold, anxiety towards a new pack and an entirely new shift in lifestyle, and fear of one day losing a pack member.
Bonds built upon such frailty can hold no weight should one piece fall.
How strong can bonds really be when you live with that knowledge, that constant fear that someone could die at any time? Someone in the pack, someone you’ve bonded with, someone you’ve grown a relationship with, might leave and never return because of the risks of their job. How strong can those bonds be? Was that the point of the experiments all along, the 141 and the initiative? Testing the limits a pack could be pushed to, testing if bonds could be formed in such a high stress environment and if so, how strong they’d be? What limits would they have gone to, to test that theory? Would they have gone to the point of sacrificing one of them to test those theories, had the truth not come out when it did? One wrong decision, one wrong step in the field and everything can crumble. Would they have gone to that length to test just how a bonded pack would react, if they could still function after everything?
The sacrifice was you.
Kate is right. You’re not part of their world. You’re not a soldier, you haven’t been conditioned to live with that fear, you can’t be conditioned to live with that fear. You shouldn’t have to be conditioned to live with that fear. You had no choice in this. None of it. From the moment you presented, nothing in your life would be yours. From the moment you presented, you would never make a choice for yourself again.
The sacrifice was you.
And he played right into their hands.
The cup is blurring as he stares at it, his eyes blinking rapidly.
They say an omega is the balance that holds a pack together. It’s a delicate bond, a single thread coiled around the structure of the pack. Wear that thread down until it snaps and everything crumbles. How long have you been fraying? How long have you been silently screaming for help, desperately trying to hold the pieces of the pack together like a strongman holds two pillars up by chains? You never had chains, you’ve been holding everything together with sewing thread, fighting desperately to keep the pieces from crumbling at the risk of being torn in half.
How long have you been silently screaming?
It’s all his fault. He’s been wearing you down, he’s been fraying that bond fiber by fiber. He’s been standing there watching you fight to hold the pack together while screaming at him to help, screaming at him to take one of those threads and hold at least half of the weight for you.
That’s what he’s supposed to do.
The threads have snapped. You were torn in half by the weight and those threads are gone. They’re crumbling, the bonds coming undone, unraveling minute by minute, second by second. They’re losing each other because they lost you.
He covers his face with his hands, not even bothering to try and silence his sobs.
Something has pulled you from the sweet arms of sleep.
It’s dark in the room, the only light coming from the one behind the bed. The curtains are drawn over the window, keeping you hidden from the darkness outside the window. It’s late, or at least you think it is. You can’t quite see the clock in the darkness with your one good eye. It’s fuzzy in the darkness, too far away for you to truly find where the hands lie.
Shadows fill the corners of the room, oppressive and claustrophobic. The longer you stare, the bigger they seem to grow as if they might suck the light right out of the room and swallow you in darkness. The longer you stare, the more it seems like there’s something there, something hidden in the darkness.
Something is staring at you from the shadows. There’s eyes on you, your skin prickling from the uncomfortable feeling of being watched. The more you stare into the darkness, the more the shadows begin to take shape, forming monstrous beasts just being held at bay by the light.
“Hi, darlin’.”
No. No, no, no, no.
“Miss me? It’s been a long time.”
You shake your head, your heart monitor starting to beep rapidly as your heart pounds in your chest. “N-No.”
Phil sits forward in the chair in the corner, his face coming into the light. It is him, blonde hair, blue eyes, that disarming grin on his face. He can’t be here...unless he escaped before your pack could catch him. Did they manage to catch him? You don’t know. You hadn’t even thought to ask about Phil or his whereabouts. No one informed you either.
“No? You didn’t miss me?” He tilts his head, his eyes shining with faux hurt and disappointment. “That’s not very nice of you to say. I thought your father taught you your manners. Have you forgotten them in the time you’ve been away.” He tsks, shaking his head. “Those boys have been letting you get lazy.”
Your breathing is picking up, panic starting to fill you as you stare at him. It’s impossible. He shouldn’t be here. He can’t be here. He couldn’t have just walked onto base and walked into the medical center, could he? Corporal McKinney fooled everyone for months and drove right off base with you in his car and no one said anything. How much would the guards at the front entrance of the base take as a bribe to let him in?
Why isn’t your pack outside your door? Why would they let him in?
They had to have put out a warning. Someone should have put Phil’s face everywhere, sent out a message, something.
He lets out a sigh, pushing himself to stand. “I guess I’ll have to teach you some manners myself.”
The glint of metal catches your eye, the icepick catching the light as he steps closer.
“No, no,” You shake your head, your fingers scrambling for the call button.
Not again. Please, not again.
Your fingers close around the call button, your thumb pushing it over and over and over again. Someone has to hear it.
He lifts the ice pick, reaching out for you...
Tumblr media
You’re being shaken. A scream tears from your lips as you struggle, trying to get away from whoever is holding you. Your body is alight with pain but you wait for more, for the ice pick to drive into your scent gland again, open the wound and light your body on fire once more. You expect it to come down again and again, filling your body with holes so you bleed out on the floor.
Where is your pack?
“Easy, easy. You’re alright.”
You know that voice.
You’re sobbing, your brain slowly beginning to come back into consciousness. You had been asleep. You were dreaming. The light is on in the room, the harsh fluorescent a welcome presence for once. The shadows are gone, dissipated by the bright light overhead. Phil is gone, wiped away with the rest of the shadows.
He’s nowhere to be seen because he wasn’t there in the first place.
It was just a dream. It was just a nightmare.
There’s a hand on yours, gently easing your fingers from the call button. You’re still trying to press it, your thumb moving almost automatically. You started pressing it in your sleep.
“You’re okay. Breathe for me.”
It’s Dr. Keller’s voice. It’s her arms wrapped around you, trying to stop you from moving as much. Your body is screaming in pain, but the panic flooding your body makes you almost numb to it. The pain in your chest is screaming with every rapid inhale, tightening and tightening the more until your fingers and toes start to go numb.
“Deep breaths.” Dr. Keller says, her own breaths slow as she holds you. “In and out.”
The inhale catches, the air shuddering into your lungs before you hold it, trying to force your body to calm down, just like the two of you practiced so many times. The heart monitor is beeping rapidly, another thing that must have translated in your state between wakefulness and sleep when Phil had shown up. Your heart is beating rapidly, thudding in your chest almost violently. It’s been through a lot these last few days. You wouldn’t be surprised if it just gave out suddenly.
“Phil.” You gasp out, still trying to slow your breathing. “Phil was here.”
“It was just a nightmare.” Dr. Keller says calmly, keeping her arms wrapped around you. “No one has come in or out of this room besides me. The guard outside won’t let anyone else in.”
Guard. There’s someone outside the door. Your pack? No. She would have said so.
Where is your pack?
Phil was never here. It was just a nightmare.
The last two thoughts repeat over and over in your head like a mantra as you start to cry, sobs wracking your body. You hate it, the fear, the terror, the anguish you felt as he lifted that ice pick, ready to stab you with it.
“I hate it.” You croak out, voicing your thoughts for the first time in a few hours.
“I know.” Dr. Keller says. “It’s normal to have nightmares after a traumatic event.” She adjusts her hold on you, tucking you against her chest. “It’s your brain trying to process what happened, trying to work its way through the trauma of the last few days. It’s cruel, but it’s a necessary part of healing.”
Healing.
Are you healing? Can you heal after everything? The pain is intense, not just outside but inside as well. The hurt, the anger, the fear, the anxiety, the panic, the depression, the rage, the betrayal. It’s too much. It’s so much all at once. You hate it. You hate that this happened in the first place. You hate that you have to go through this, have to heal, have to live through more nightmares.
You hate your pack. That’s why they’re not here.
For all you know they’ve left you. For all you know they’re on a plane back to the UK.
Why would they want a broken, angry omega?
“I just want to be okay.” You sob, face pressed against her shoulder.
“I know.” She says, cradling the back of your head, keeping you tight in her arms. “I'm so sorry this happened to you. I know words can't change that it happened, words can't make it all better, but we'll get you to where you're as okay as you can be again. I promise you I’ll do everything I can to get you there.” She leans her chin on the top of your head, squeezing you against her chest. “We'll get there, no matter how long it takes.”
How long will it take? How long will your pain and suffering drag on for? Your body will heal eventually, but will your mind? Are you going to be this way for the rest of your life? Will you ever know peace again? But...have you ever really known peace? Your home growing up certainly wasn’t peaceful. Your presentation wasn’t peaceful, and neither was life at the institute. Being chosen by the FBI for this initiative that never existed in the first place certainly wasn’t peaceful. Despite how happy you became with your pack, even that life wasn’t peaceful. What little peace you thought you had was upended in the blink of an eye.
How easily everything crumbled.
Will it be possible to put it all back together again?
Do you want to put it back together again?
Tumblr media
Alcohol is easy to find in a place like this. Soldiers gravitate towards whatever crutch they can find to erase the nightmares they live in. It numbs the pain and the brain and keeps one sane, or at least that’s what his father used to say.
Of course his father would drink himself into a stupor every Friday night, and he’d wake Saturday morning still in his chair with a full breakfast waiting for him.
Much like his father, John has lost track of how many times he’s filled his glass.
It’s been a long time since he’s gotten this drunk. He shook that habit after a shameful morning over ten years ago. He’d just gotten back from a bad deployment, one that gets labeled as a “mission gone wrong.” It failed under his command. He lost a lot of lives, not just his fellow soldiers. He’d drunk himself past a stupor and woke up passed out in a bush covered in vomit outside the gate with a rather angry CO over him.
He shook the habit after that, easing himself to just a glass every so often on those days he needs to take the edge off, on those days he needs to numb the aches.
Then Kyle came along. Kyle, his sweet beta with his ethical moral compass. His sweet beta who deserved a better life than what he was pulled into. Dutiful, loyal, principled. A good soldier, but a better man than John could ever be. He could fall into Kyle, bury himself under those soft touches, the soothing whispers, the comfort Kyle could offer him. The screaming in his head became less and less as he allowed Kyle to do what he was meant to do at his core.
Comfort.
Then you came along.
He found himself turning to the liquid medicine less and less because he could bury himself in you. He had an omega, he had someone he could lean on, someone who understood without having to be told. The bond between alpha and omega is something so sacred and special, something to be cherished.
And he threw it all away.
He downs another glass, staring at the almost empty bottle. It had been sealed when he got it, brand new and fresh. He can feel it, the fogginess of alcohol clouding his brain. The world is swirling, melting together. He can’t feel much of anything anymore, yet that pain lingers deep in his chest.
The bond.
It’s like an open wound, gaping and pulsing. Eventually it’ll slow, eventually it’ll give out. That bond will be cut and everything will crumble.
It’s all his fault.
He ended things, he ended the pack, he ended the bond, he ended you.
Would Graves have killed you? Would Shepherd have given those orders if they pushed onward, if they caught up to him? Graves would have done it slowly, taken his time, reveled in it. They would have gotten a video of it, hours long as you were tortured to death, zoomed in on your face as the life left your eyes.
The thought makes his stomach churn. He wants to vomit at the mental picture of you laying there, covered in blood, those lifeless eyes staring at him. Eyes that once shone with life and happiness. Despite everything you had been happy. Despite everything that spark inside you was never extinguished. A fiery little thing that would give what they gave right back to them.
Now you’re not even smoldering.
You’ve been reduced to ashes, and it’s all his fault. It’s all his doing.
He skips the glass this time, drinking straight from the bottle.
“Have you seen John recently?” Kyle asks, standing in the doorway to their temporary living quarters. It’s a single room with two bunk beds. Far too tight of a space for their quickly souring dynamics.
“No, not recently.” Johnny says, lifting his head up from his pillow. He’s been crying again. “You, LT?”
LT. They argued earlier...more like yelled in each others’ faces until they had to be separated at the risk of things getting physical. Kyle’s not even sure what they had been arguing about in the first place. Probably something miniscule and unimportant. Everything seems to be setting them off like grenades. Pull the pin and watch them explode. They’re all on edge, all of them feeling the distance growing wider and wider despite their best efforts to stop it.
“No.” Simon says simply, staring up at the bottom of the bunk over him. He’s flat on his back, hands folded on his stomach. He looks like a corpse, might have been mistaken for one if it hadn’t been for the slow rise and fall of his chest. He’s still in his mask. He hasn’t taken it off since he arrived in the field.
It’s late, but none of them can sleep. None of them have been able to get much sleep since they arrived nearly two days ago. Weeks without good, decent sleep wears on the brain too.
“If he comes back here, text me.” Kyle says before closing the door, resuming his search for their missing captain.
John has been beating himself up for nearly two days now. Kyle’s never seen his captain quite so distraught and lost. He’s blaming himself, which in all fairness, he should be doing. It is his fault. Kyle will be the first to point blame in this situation, but none of them are truly blameless. None of them questioned it, none of them even argued with him on that decision. They followed blindly as they were supposed to for the first time in a long time. They didn’t question their captain, their alpha, their leader.
He hates himself for it.
Why didn’t he question it? Why didn’t he argue? Why didn’t he voice his opinion, fight back against that decision? He trusted his alpha when he shouldn’t have, and you paid for it.
He’s glad he didn’t have to see you. He’s glad he didn’t have to face down the state Johnny and Simon found you in. He’s glad he didn’t have to see what you looked like even after the blood had been cleaned off and the true horror was revealed.
He hasn’t gone to see you at all.
He’s not sure he could handle it. You won’t care either way from the sound of it. You’ve been reduced to a shell, silent and empty. You’ve barely said a word since this morning, instead just lying there and staring at the ceiling according to the doctor when she’d updated them this afternoon.
Your body will heal slowly, but your mind will remain a battleground.
He leaves the barracks, looking up at the dark sky. It’s clear tonight. He’d probably see the stars if there wasn’t constant light pollution around the base. What do the stars look like here? He’s stared up at the stars constantly in the last few weeks in places there was little light pollution. His only comfort about being away from you so long was the knowledge that you were under the same sky. Be it day or night, the stars were overhead. You wouldn’t be able to see them either way, but they were shining for you too.
Now you’re both under the same stars, but you’re both still so far away.
He lets out a sigh, lowering his gaze. He has a job to do, a captain to find.
“Where are you John?” He breathes, looking in all directions, trying to decide which way to go next. He had stopped in at the med center already, but he wasn’t there. No one had seen him, even the doctor. He’s searched everywhere he could think to search, but his captain is nowhere to be found.
John will kill him if he requests a base-wide search.
He walks around the side of the barracks, hoping maybe he’ll run into John coming back this way. Usually he wouldn’t bother searching for him, but with his mind how it has been, Kyle can’t help but be worried. Even with the bonds fraying between them, he still has that instinctual need to make sure his alpha is okay. Instincts can’t be ignored. No matter how much bonds between packs fray, instincts will always remain the same.
That’s why he still feels that urge to go and see you.
John will kill him if he requests a base-wide search.
He knows how self-destructive John can be despite how composed he makes himself appear. He’s only seen his alpha in that state once, and he has a feeling he’s about to a second time.
He leans against the wall with a sigh when he reaches the other side of the barracks. Nothing. No sign of him. No texts from Johnny or Simon either. He’d asked Dr. Keller to let him know if he shows up in the med center too, but there’s been nothing. No word. No signs.
Maybe he should just give up looking. John will find his way back to the barracks eventually. Or he won’t.
That could be tomorrow’s problem. A distraction, a mission, something to give them purpose and force them to unite again.
Find their missing captain. Find their missing alpha.
He turns back around to follow the sidewalk back to the front of the barracks when he hears shuffling footsteps dragging on the concrete. He turns, squinting into the darkness between lamps as a figure stumbles through the shadows, muttering under its breath. He knows that voice, he knows that figure.
John.
John stumbles forward, nearly falling but Kyle reaches out, catching him. His mind is racing, silently checking for any blood, any sign of injury, but there’s nothing.
Maybe everything is finally getting to him. Maybe his body has finally been pushed to the limit and it’s giving out. He’s having a medical emergency.
“Easy, sir.” He says, trying to calm his panic as he fights to keep John upright despite John’s body wanting to fall the rest of the way onto the ground. Kyle takes a breath in, catching the sour scent of alcohol wafting off his captain.
Not a medical emergency, then.
He sought out some liquid comfort instead.
The thought makes Kyle’s chest twinge still.
“’S all over.” John slurs, his weight getting heavier and heavier. “Everything is over.” He turns his head, blinking slowly. “Kyle?”
“It’s me, sir. I’ve got you.” He slings John’s arm over his shoulders, making his weight easier to hold.
“Kyle.” He slurs again, the two syllables blurring together. “Too good to me, Kyle.” John pulls his arm free, stumbling forward.
Kyle just manages to lessen his fall onto the concrete, making sure John doesn’t smack the back of his head at least. He’ll have some scrapes and bruises tomorrow, though. Right now he probably can’t even feel it. If he was responsible, he’d take John to the med center, let him sleep off the alcohol on the safety of a gurney, but that would probably just cause more problems for everyone.
John would be pissed when he woke up.
He lets out a sigh as he stands there, staring down at his captain. John’s on his back, eyes up and focused on the sky, hiccuping every so often. He’s never seen his captain quite this drunk before, though he has heard stories of when John was younger.
“I’ve killed her.” John mumbles. “I’ve killed all of us.”
Kyle drops to a knee beside John. “You haven’t killed anyone.”
“She’s fading away. Soon she’ll be gone.” He murmurs. “We’ll go too.” John pushes himself up to sit. “It’s all over. Everything is over.”
Kyle grips John’s arms before he can fall back again, holding him in place. “Nothing is over yet, sir. We can still do something. It’ll just take time.”
John turns to look at him, his eyes hazy and far away. “Kyle.” John says his name softly, reaching out to brush his fingers across Kyle’s cheek. “Pretty boy.” He slumps against Kyle’s chest, his weight nearly making both of them topple over. “Too good to me, Kyle.”
“I care about you a lot, sir.” Kyle says, rubbing his back. “More than I think you realize.” He murmurs the last bit more to himself than anything. Not that John will likely remember any of this in the morning. “We should get you in bed. We’ve got a long day tomorrow.”
They do. They have to decide what to do next.
“Come on.” He says, hauling John to his feet carefully. John lets him, letting Kyle wrap his arm around his shoulders.
It’s slow going, Kyle half dragging John back to the barracks. He’s quiet at least, only the occasional scuffle of his footsteps as he stumbles breaking the quiet night. He gets John back to their room fairly easily, easing him into the other bottom bunk across from Simon. The room is still and silent aside from the occasional sniffle from one of the top bunks.
He grabs the blanket from his own bunk, draping it across John instead. Maybe in his drunk state, the scent will bring him some comfort, help ease that ache inside of him.
He’s hoping John’s scent will do the same for him.
“It’ll be alright, sir.” He says, making sure his captain is comfortable. He stands up, staring down at his Captain. “Everything will be fine.”
He’s not sure who he’s trying to convince.
Tumblr media
John stares down into his tea as they sit around a table. His head is throbbing, pulsing heavily behind his eyes. It’s his own damn fault, going out and getting drunk like that. He hasn’t done it in years, yet he couldn’t stand the pain gnawing away at his chest. Alcohol hadn’t fixed it. It’s still there, still pulsing away. The alcohol had only numbed it at least for a few hours, and if anything, it made it worse.
“Kate left this morning back to DC.” He says, glancing up at the other three members of his team. “They're still working on cleanup and helping Alex and Farah track Shepherd. I spoke with Dr. Keller this morning. We’ll be able to fly out soon.”
The words hang heavy in the air. He hadn’t mentioned you at all, but he’s not sure he could without breaking down. You are improving slowly, Christine had said, giving him a sympathetic look as he squinted in the harsh fluorescents. She knew. She could tell just by looking at him. She’s that good at her job.
He’s glad they have her. He’s glad you have her.
“Where are we going tae go?” Johnny asks.
“We can’t go back to base.” Simon says.
“You’re right. Going back to base is too risky.” John says. “Shepherd could have eyes there already. And with her mind where it is...” Taking you back would be too much too soon, even without the risk. One of their own had already betrayed them once. They can’t trust anyone anymore. “We need somewhere secluded and quiet. Somewhere no one will know we’re going where we can lay low for a while.” Both out of necessity for their safety, but also for your sake.
It falls silent between them. Shepherd knows all of their possible safehouses, all of the places they mind go to stay hidden. Those only they know off the record are hard to get to, requiring miles of hiking. You wouldn't be up for that even without the physical injuries, and they doubt you'd let one of them carry you. If they had to get out quickly...
“My parents have a place,” Kyle says, glancing up at them from his own cup of tea. “Out in Cornwall. A cottage near the cliffs. It’s quiet, secluded. No one knows about it but us. Tourist season is over too. There won't be many out there poking around this time of year.” Anyone wandering around out there that close would be suspicious.
“It’s a good option.” Johnny shrugs.
“It’s our only option.” Simon says.
“It’s exactly what we need.” Kyle says. “Trying to rent this time of year will only draw attention, and we can't trust we won't be ratted out. Shepherd likely still has allies. We were betrayed by one of our own before.” Kyle says.
“You're sure no one else knows about it?” John asks, looking at his beta.
“Just my parents and my siblings. They wouldn’t ask any questions if I told them it was being used.” Kyle shrugs. “It might be our best option.”
John looks around at them. It is their best option for now. He knows Kyle's family is just like the rest of theirs. They know they can't know and they won't ask questions.
“We had a conversation once, months ago.” John says. “She told me she wanted to live next to the sea someday. She wants to be close enough that she can smell it and see it.”
He pauses thinking back months ago after Simon left, after you were so affected by his absence. That conversation when you asked if he’d ever leave for you, when he told you if your life was ever in danger because of them he’d leave in a heartbeat. He’s made a liar out of himself. He broke his promise, so many promises, made not just to you. Not just to the pack.
He glances at the other three, fighting back the lump in his throat, the endless threat of tears that has been rising like the tide and threatening to drown him at any moment. He’s made his decision, he’s made up his mind.
You have to come first.
His priorities have changed. There’s no initiative to follow, no orders to be given out. Kate was right. This is their moment to change things, this is his moment to change things. His pack will follow. Despite everything, they’ll trust him to make the right decision. They won’t hesitate to challenge him anymore, but there’s still that deeply ingrained trust in their alpha and captain.
The alpha comes first.
No, the omega comes first.
He takes a sip of his tea, bitter without any milk, but it’ll do. “She wanted to be close to the sea.” He looks back up at the other three having made his decision. “Taking her there might just be what she needs.”
