Kolivan and his Blades of Galra Rebels were such a cool idea and design.

...too bad they were executed so poorly.

(Even for a group of Spies Primary, they didn’t play nice with others, and they withheld information from their alliance that quite literally crippled them (the s2 Finale regarding “go bait oh wait Thace hasn’t checked in...let’s bail now that we’ve got Zarkon coming~” and the freaking Komar not mentioned until after it blasts the Paladins) (attacking the KralZera and turning it into a shitshow without saying “hey don’t go we’re already planning something” ...which why didn’t a Blade stand in as a candidate again?); and Kolivan was trying to poach a Paladin away from Voltron since his introduction then finally succeeded in s4. That...and I don’t really have any respect for “TopDown, Shutup and Do What I Say NOW, You’re all Pawns” styled leadership which...is how Keith “grew as a leader” when monsantos finally got their way with “bpkeef”. Oh...and KOLIVAN was the one to insist on a new Pilot for the BlackLion? Yet he kept poaching Keith away.)

...right.

Galra Rebels/Spies were SO badass and I love their design and voice acting and just their entire aesthetic.

But their writing? Including in The Golden Seasons?

It’s SO broken.

So...fix their writing in an AU, I guess. Then they’re fine.

(And I’m really not a fan of anything about Krolia’s character, either.)

#vld salt #bom crit #not going to tag individual characters to keep it out of those tags #...but I haven’t really seen much (if any) crit about the BoM as an organization and how they relate back to Voltron/the plot #once more Rule of Cool strikes again #as...so clearly monsantos just didn’t get how leadership actually works (including a more secretive one)#spies have to be secretive. I’m not critiquing that.#but the rules change once you collaborate and pool your resources together #so yes. I am blaming Kolivan for WHY ‘Slav’s Odds’ ended up that way #(that and the BlackLion panicked after already getting blasted by that komar earlier that fight)#(and once again in a tugawar because Zarkon)#and depending on the op? yeah you do go back after your men KOLIVAN #this wasn’t Thace and Ulaz who were in solo undercover #you were leading a group. different rules.#(and wth was with Krolia’s ‘training’ in s7? I swear every Blade had serious depression from It’s Futile.)#(which made them ready to die? but you LOST TRAINED AGENTS that way. and that’s expensive)
