Y'know what's something I think MCD took direct inspiration from in FFIX? The fact that once the plot really gets started, the characters can never catch a break. In both works there's a decent amount of time where stakes are low and slowly ramp up, before the flamboyant main actual villain shows up and suddenly it's tragedy after tragedy after tragedy, with few moments of levity and respite in between to keep you going. A fun cutscene here, a nice character moment there, a reminder of better times. AND THEN IT'S RIGHT BACK TO THE TRAGEDY

#i have loved revisiting FFIX with mcd On the brain #because I know Jess has played this game and loved it #so while some of my chatacter comparisons are more for fun and the sake of building an AU #stuff like this feels like direct inspiration and I think that's really cool #FFIX has an amazing story which is why Im always really vague about it #because I know none of my followers have actually played it and I don't want to spoil it for them #if they want it spoiled they can do that themselves #i suspect I'm going to keeo finding similarities between these two works or moments of direct inspiration #I'm looking forward to it i love this game and this silly roleplay it partially inspired #xer's rambles
