Cutie, I like the idea of the oversized stuff being Chris'. May I ask for a link of where you found the ebook?
@puppynivans sure! i went through a ton of hoops to get this so if i can save someone the same trouble that’d be great.
however i will warn you when i say ‘a ton of hoops’ i mean uh, a ton of hoops. including paying real money. i do intend to post at least the art for all of the characters including costumes if you want to just wait for me to do that.
first, you will need:
1. ability to understand some really basic japanese OR google translate extension (or equivalent) in your browser
2. a valid japanese mailing address - there are several free sites that provide this functionality, such as package forwarding services that give you basically a PO box in japan you can have items sent to that they will then ship to you for a fee. they don’t actually charge you anything or ask for your billing details unless a physical package arrives, so to use it for site verification like this is 100% free. you’re only ordering a digital item! i used jpn-depot.
3. about $17 you’re willing to part with via credit or debit card

this is the book. DON’T try to go through amazon.co.jp for it. it may seem cheaper and more tempting because of its familiarity but turns out even with a VPN that says you’re in japan and a valid mailing address, they WILL suspend your account for suspected fraud. rakuten does NOT require you to use a vpn. all you need is your payment details and a japanese mailing address.
after you make an account, buy the book. it is pretty straightforward - lots of big buttons and such meant to guide you to buy - but again i recommend a translator extension for your browser if you don’t know basic japanese (even with my very.. very rudimentary understanding of japanese i used the translator a few times). then, in order to read it, you will need to download rakuten kobo’s free ereader application. you can find the download link here.
if you’re satisfied reading it in their app, then that’s it - you’re done. BUT if you’re like me and want to share scans (the app doesn’t let you take screenshots because of DRM, or copy protection) or read the book with an e-reader that isn’t rakuten kobo, there is a little bit more work involved...
this particular book comes with adobe DRM. kobo helpfully has a page (in english!) on its drm and how to download it. in adobe’s case, you need to go to kobo’s english store (https://www.kobo.com/) then go to My Account in the top right and select My Books:
you’ll be at your library, which, if you did everything right, the book should be there. click the three dots:
then click Download.
as you can see it has adobe DRM. click download file.
now you need a program that can open it, which is Adobe Digital Editions. we’re going to use Adobe Digital Editions 2.0.1 because using version 3 and up can cause Problems. you can go download that here.
you have to make an adobe ID for this if you don’t already have one. open adobe digital editions, click Help at the top then Authorize Account, make sure ‘adobe ID’ is what you have selected for ebook vendor, and enter your adobe credentials.
now, you’ll notice the file you downloaded is damn ass small. that’s because the REAL download starts when you open it with adobe digital editions. now that you’ve authorized your account with it, it downloads the ebook agonizingly slow and converts it to EPUB. expect this to take a while.
once you’re done with all of that, you can right click on the book in your adobe library and click ‘show item in explorer’. this will show you the location of the brand new EPUB.
but it’s still got DRM on it. so first we download calibre, a great free e-reader.
i’m not going to link it here because of dubious legalities but you should try googling ‘drm calibre’. you might find a tool, and with that tool you’d probably find a github link and ample documentation, like an FAQ on the sidebar that tells you how to install calibre extensions.
anyway, supposing you’ve gone and found all of that and installed it, open calibre then go to ‘add books’. remember how we clicked ‘show item in explorer’? find that book’s location now, add the book.
if your extension worked right, the drm should now be pruned - you can test this by opening the book in calibre to see if it gives you an error about DRM.
if it worked, right click on the title in your calibre library and click ‘save to disk’. save it wherever you want.
now the fun part - turns out EPUBs are just, like, basically html and some images. what you want to do is make a copy of this ebook, then rename it to have the file extension .zip. then extract its contents.
you should have a folder named OEBPS with a folder named ‘image’ inside. guess what’s inside! it’s all the pages!
anyway yeah this was a fucking venture for me and again i’m gonna post a bunch of the pages anyway if you just want to like...Wait for me to do that. im not going to post the full book because That’s Illegal but i think just uploading selected contents falls under free use.
