As someone who has been to about seven or eight different countries in Europe as well as america, I need other Europeans to understand deeply that you cannot fathom how big america is. You just can't. America is massive. It is so, unfathomably big. There is so so much space, even in places america doesn't consider rural. Everything is so far apart. By European standards every single thing looks to be in the middle of no where. Everything is big. Everything is distant. There is an incredible amount of space. Its very hard to communicate, because photos do not do the vastness of it justice. You cannot expect Americans to get around like Europeans do, because its just too fucking big. Its huge. Some states are like trying to get from Portugal to Germany. A single state. The USA alone is big enough to be a continent. Between being only having a couple of hundred years of what Europeans would typically describe as modner infrastructure and being, again, fucking huge, you cannot expect Americans to walk on foot.
“America IS walkable, you’re all just lazy” my childhood home was an hour from the nearest hospital (by car)
#hoping this isnt too butchered#also america is as old as everywhere else it just happened that a lot of pre colonial culture and infrastructure was violently#destroyed with extreme prejudice#so the knowledge of pathways amd travel and native fauna are either largely wiped out#or largely considered to be irrelevant to things because of racism#see: the post i reblogged before this#EDIT: WHY IS IT A LIST
