To answer your "how else do you say squirrel" is honestly like how it's spelt? Skwi-rul. Like squiggle but with rs instead of gs I guess? That's how we say it in England anyway

(the of thing I don't get either bc it's not even like Americans say it with a 'u' sound either. So Idk why they did that one)

i had to try and say "skwi-rul" aloud like 20 times before i could actually get all the sounds lol it kinda sounds like a fantasy creature, like something my sibs and i would have imagined up in our woods.

We get so used to seeing certain birds and animals that we forget how astounding each one is. It hauls up vertical trees. It buries its food in the ground to be disinterred later—few humans have memories half as good. We long for glimpses of rarer things, chipmunks and field mice and moles, beavers and otters, simply because they are less sociable and therefore rarer. But the squirrel is exquisite. It is everywhere and it is exquisite but only if we remind ourselves to see past our own familiarity with it. With the eyes, perhaps, of a visitor to this planet, or a child.
