I Love You, I’m Sorry: THERE’S SO MUCH IN THISSS and i’ve also listened to this song thinking of them over and over!! so this will be long lmao. you’re so right on, per usual! i love also the “i push my luck, it shows. thankful you don’t send someone to kill me” full lyrics for that analysis—how she feels she genuinely pushed her luck, she was essentially blackmailing a brooding billionaire man who is also a violent vigilante in GOTHAM of all places, just pushing pushing pushing at the envelope of his patience by forcing her way into his home, into dinner, and then getting that notification that she was stuck there for days LMAOOO RIPPPP. her being scared at city hall that Bruce is gonna do away with her, and the bit of relief at Alfred and Bruce being generally accommodating and *not* hurting her <3 i also love the “now you go alone, charm all the people you’ve trained for, you mean well but aim low”. the first part of that i so think about graduation, how everyone is buying it, and same with the city hall meetings recently where he’s been trying to put on a more laid-back, playboy-esque persona, that image of her watching him thinking that this is sooo not him, how it’s all just a performance, and the belief she has that Bruce should be doing more with his money with the “you mean well but aim low”; she doesn’t hate him for his status and money like she used to, because she can see where his heart is, but she still thinks he’s not doing enough and not focusing his attention where it should be the most and would make the most impact. “i tend to laugh whenever i’m sad” — when he comes to cook for her and he sets part of his shirt on fire and she just goes to her room and laugh cries. “i stare at the crash, it actually works” this self-flagellation of hers where she won’t stop thinking about the guilt/can’t stop thinking about it, and she thinks it’s a sort of karma for her actions to carry this burden. “you’re in your Benz, I’m by the gate” makes me think of 1. their opposing statuses and 2. her waiting for him to pull up in his snazzy lil car after city hall stuff <3 and last but far from least, “i love you, i’m sorry”. this HITS. so simple. but so them. she feels bad about the lying, and that she can’t/doesn’t want to stay away from him, feels like he deserves someone better who isn’t holding this huge lie. and especially BRUCE!! he feels not only his love, but his existence alongside anyone else in any significant capacity is a curse. this guilt/fight within himself of wanting to get closer to her and spend more time with her but feeing so selfish and shitty for that, like it’s a curse that’s gonna kill her. reminds me of how he keeps micromanaging her mannerisms/demeanor and fretting over her acting too timid/anxious/worried because that’s how his mom was affected by the press, he’s worrying if his mom was ever actually happy, and he desperately doesn’t want her to suffer Martha’s fate. he feels like his parent’s death was in part his fault, that what happened to Alfred is entirely his fault, and those are the two biggest people in his life, his parents and Alfred. if history follows… feels like he’s cursing her by loving her, my poor baby!!!
