#so people don't tend to assume I'm on coke

a trick I find ridiculous but effective is you get 60-90% more empathy and accomodation if you say your symptoms are side effects of medication rather than the condition itself. I don't know why this works but in my experience it does almost every time.
"I can't do that right now because I have a migraine and my vision is blurry" bullshit
"I can't do that right now because my migraine medication has made my vision blurry" okay, when can you get it done?
"can I get that in a lidded cup, she has hand tremors" no we don't do that
"can I get that in a lidded cup, she's taken some heavy medication and her hands are really shaky" of course let me go and get you one
"they can't sit in this area, they're having hallucinations and the echoes are making it worse" what the fuck either deal or leave
"they can't sit in this area, they're on meds for a brain condition that make them hear weird noises sometimes and the echoes here are making it worse" oh crazy didn't know that could happen where do you want to sit
all of the above have happened for me exactly as described
important caveat you have to really stress that this is Proper Doctor Approved Medication and not The Dreaded Drugs
#I don't know how many people need this but as lifehacks go it has changed my life since I noticed it#again caveat I'm white and tiny and look like my idea of a crazy night on the town would be an after hours tour at an art gallery#so people don't tend to assume I'm on coke#but has worked for me with people I'm caring for who are less fortunate in that regard
