OOC: i remember a while back you mentioned that your theory on why Zeus was so pissed at Athena at the end of god games was because he was worried she might overthrow him, and after listening to the song a few more times, I think you might be right. When he’s listing off the gods who Athena needs to convince to let Odysseus go, at the end he doesn’t say “and me” he says “or me”. And with him telling her that he’ll have her play the game if she’s willing to risk “going under”, it feels like he’s almost saying “either convince me you’re not a threat by letting this go or prove that you are a threat to my authority as king of the gods and get your ass kicked in the process” I know this is a bit long winded I just got really excited to share this lol
(Ooc: Thank you. The way you interpretted it was slightly different than I did. It will be under the cut in case anyone doesn't want to read my take.
I felt like Athena was set up to fail. Like we know, Hera does not like Zeus's bastard children, and depending on which myth you look at, Hera got mad at Zeus for conceiving Athena alone and created Hephaestus as an attempt to show Zeus up. Ares and Aphrodite are known to hate Athena and visa versa, so it was a fair estimate to believe they wouldn't side with her. Hephaestus, in some of the myths, desperately wanted Athena as his bride and even tried to rape her. Apollo is honestly the only one that she doesn't seem to have beef with, if I remember correctly. So I imagined that Zeus set this up so Athena would fail, and her "going under" referred to her pride. As after she fails, she would be humiliated (I don't see her backing down from the game. I feel like her pride wouldn't allow it). Then Zeus gets to swoop in and be the merciful king that releases Odysseus anyway despite her failure.
Zeus also almost got overthrown before by guess who Athena, Hera, Poseiden, and Apollo. Thetis (Achilles's mother) helped free Zeus due to a vission she received of Olympus breaking out into civil war if Zeus falls. Which makes sense as they all thought that they deserved to sit on the throne. It is also worth noting that Athena was the only one who wasn't punished for this. It also makes the inclussion of Apollo and Hera interesting. Zeus knew that Posioden would side with Athena because he wants to kill Odysseus and he can't do that with Odysseus trapped on an island or if you envoke "The Odyssey" then Posioden is in Etheopia at the time.
I imagine Zeus, at the end, was concerned that the gods would actually stand united against him as seperate, they are weaker than him, but together, they could overthrow him. Not to mention, I imagine Zeus told them to deny Athena, as Hera's argument really isn't one and just a dismissal. Hera actually does have a hero Jason granted she dropped him when he cheated on his wife and fought along the Greek side of the Trojan War so it is unlikely that she doesn't care about heroes (unless they are Zeus's children then she wants to kill them with fire). Then we add Athena's response of Odysseus not cheating on his wife, which can be both a dig at Zeus and Jason, which is what won Hera over. Now, if they decide to try and overthrow him again, there is a chance that Athena could convince them all to give her the thrown.
There is also a prophecy where Metis and Zeus's son would replace Zeus as king, which is why pregnant Metis was consumed by Zeus.
Is this a lot of random info that I have for this theory? Yes. I just find the idea really fascinating, and I have yet to learn how to shut up.)

What if "The Little Mermaid" and "Hercules" crossed over?
In honor of "The Little Mermaid" turning 35 years old today, I wanted to discuss a fanfiction I had that was based on a popular Disney theory about Hercules being related to King Triton, the father of Ariel and her sisters, the son of Poseidon, and one of Zeus' nephews. But while there is another Triton in the "Hercules" TV show, I'd like to stick with the Triton we have in "The Little Mermaid" and accept that there are two Tritons.
CONCEPTUAL TITLE
"Hercules and the Visit from King Triton"
ROUGH STORY CONCEPT
Our story begins on the first night Ariel spends her human life at Prince Eric's castle on the surface. Underwater, we see King Triton pacing around until the Seahorse Herald swims to tell him the search party’s progress. They could not find Ariel or Sebastian anywhere, so Triton orders that no one is to rest until Ariel has come back home safe and sound. As soon as the herald leaves, Triton laments “This is all my fault. What have I done? What have I done?”. When Triton tries to sleep in his bed, he can’t sleep because of the guilt of losing his temper and destroying Ariel’s collection of human stuff, including the statue of Prince Eric (If you want, you can also give King Triton a nightmare sequence to further emphasize his remorse.).
The next morning, Ariel’s sisters show concern for their father, who hasn’t been able to sleep at all last night. Not only that, but I was thinking he could leave Attina in charge of the kingdom until he comes home. The reason he’s leaving is because 1, King Triton needs some time to reflect, and 2, because he needs to continue searching for Ariel all by himself.
That very night, after Sebastian sings "Kiss the Girl", Flotsam and Jetsam, Ursula's pet eels, flip Ariel and Prince Eric off the rowboat on the final note of the song. Ursula congratulates her eels and decides to transform into Vanessa. As soon as Ursula’s transformation is done, Ariel (from her thoughts, due to selling her voice to Ursula.), Prince Eric, Sebastian, and King Triton all sing “If Only” from their points of view (Just a side note, feel free to click here if you want to see Jodi Benson sing that song with the cast members of the Broadway adaptation.).
After the song is over, we cut back to King Triton, still lamenting over driving Ariel away. The king begins to lose hope, until he looks at maybe a photo or a panorama of his family tree, where we learn that King Triton has a ton of family members who lived on the surface like Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Hades, The two Athenas (The Greek Goddess and Triton's wife), Hermes, and all sorts of Greek gods. One particular Greek god catches his attention, Hercules, whom Triton might not have met (due to likely watching over his own children). And while Triton made it clear that contact with the human world is forbidden, Triton decides that the only thing he can do is break his own rule to find Ariel.
On land, we focus on Hercules and Meg on their honeymoon as they look at the stars while sitting on the edge of a cliff by the sea. We learn that after Hercules willingly gave up his life to be immortal, Hercules and Meg settled down and got a new house to live in where they can spend their new life. Suddenly, they see bubbles as they look down at the waters, and luckily for them, Pegasus came along as their escort. Hercules jumps off the cliff with his sword drawn and lands on Pegasus' back to fight whatever sea monster is about to rise, only to learn that it's actually King Triton. The king introduces himself to his nephew, and Hercules learns from Triton that his daughters are Hercules' cousins. Hercules had no idea that he had mermaid cousins and Triton would ask him how he can apologize to Ariel. Hercules wouldn't know, but perhaps Zeus can help his uncle. Hercules would apologize to Meg about how their honeymoon has to be put on hold due to family matters, and Meg wishes him luck as she watches Pegasus fly Hercules and King Triton to Mt. Olympus.
When they land, Hercules would carry Triton to the gates, due to being a merman. Zeus would be awaken by Hercules and would be overjoyed to see him again. The gates open and Hercules and King Triton enter, with King Triton put in the cloud floor (due to the clouds providing water for Triton). Hercules tells Zeus about his relationship with Meg and King Triton asks for Zeus' advice about where Ariel is and how to apologize to her after destroying her grotto. Zeus would give his nephew a rather stern, but supportive and well-meaning speech about how his daughter won’t always live with him forever, and it’s Ariel’s choice about wanting to live on the surface with Prince Eric, whom he did witness her rescuing that night. Even Zeus has extreme guilt for nearly killing Prince Eric. He can also tell Triton that it’s never too late to apologize.
Triton and Hercules spend the night on Mt. Olympus, and when Helios starts riding his chariot, bringing daylight across the sky, Triton wakes up refreshed and not having a single nightmare. Triton would thank his uncle and Hercules would fly King Triton back to the sea while riding on Pegasus. In another part of the ocean, Hercules and Pegasus see Scuttle flying while screaming "ARIEL!". Hercules is confused at first, but then he and Pegasus look at the porthole showing Vanessa evilly laughing at the mirror, with Ursula’s reflection on it. Hercules and Pegasus decide to fly back to Mt. Olympus to warn Zeus, and Zeus summons his daughter, Artemis, the god of animals to help Scuttle.
Artemis helps the seagull by summoning more animals from the land and sea, and they all attack Vanessa after the preacher announces, “Does anyone have a reason these two should not be married? Speak now, or forever hold your peace.”. Artemis flies back to Mt. Olympus with birds carrying her and telling Zeus that Ursula’s being distracted. Zeus holds a meeting amongst the gods and goddesses about how they’re going to defeat Ursula.
Eric’s dog, Max bites Vanessa, allowing Scuttle to rip off Ursula’s seashell necklace and break it, freeing Eric from Ursula’s mind control and allowing Ariel to regain her voice. However, Selene rides her chariot across the sky, causing Ariel to revert back into a mermaid. Then Vanessa reverts back into Ursula as she victoriously yells “YOU’RE TOO LATE!” and kidnaps Ariel, pulling her underwater.
King Triton comes in contact with his sister (Yes, for this "What If", I will re-establish the idea of Ursula being King Triton's sister, which was also revived for the Broadway version and the 2023 live action movie.), who is slowly transforming Ariel into a polyp. Triton uses his lightning powers from his trident to destroy the contract Ariel signed, only for it to be unbreakable. By looking at Ariel, whose transformation is almost complete, Triton faces Ursula in sadness. “Then I guess I have no choice. Ursula, you can have… anything you want. But please, don’t hurt my daughter.”. Then he turns to Ariel with remorse and apologizes, “I’m sorry, Ariel.” and uses his trident to zap his name in place of Ariel’s signature, turning Triton into a polyp. Ursula takes her brother’s crown and puts it on, then claims his trident. Ariel turns to Ursula and yells “You tricked me! You… YOU MONSTER!”. Eric throws a harpoon at Ursula’s arm, distracting her long enough for Ariel to escape. Zeus and the other gods and goddesses prepare their weapons and wait for Ursula, only to see Ariel and Eric above the water, until Ursula rises in her giant form.
Zeus throws his lightning bolts at Ursula, but no matter how many he throws, Ursula is able to absorb them into the trident. Hercules decides to distract his evil aunt by riding on Pegasus' back and taunting Ursula. This way, Zeus can electrocute Ursula without allowing her to use the trident to absorb his lightning bolts. Fortunately, Prince Eric was able to steer the ship and use the bow to poke Ursula. Zeus uses this opportunity to fire a lightning bolt at Ursula and kill her, sending her soul to the Underworld where Hades, Pain, Panic, and the Fates reside. The other polyps Ursula kept for years have transformed back into their original merman and mermaid forms, including King Triton. Ariel and King Triton could even meet Poseidon, who would come down from Mt. Olympus to see if everyone is alright.
The next morning, Triton and Sebastian watch Ariel laying on a rock as she looks at Prince Eric. Triton follows his uncle's advice and decides to transform Ariel into a human, and after she kisses Eric on the beach, she would forgive her father, and Zeus and Poseidon congratulate him for doing the right thing.
The story ends with Hercules, Meg, and Pegasus arriving at Ariel and Eric’s wedding as guests of honor (Phil too if you want to include him), and Ariel could get acquainted with her distant cousin and his wife. She could also introduce Hercules and Meg to Prince Eric during the wedding reception, and all the gods and goddesses of Mt. Olympus would watch the wedding from up in the clouds.
THE END
So, you may be wondering what would ever happen in the second movie, and what would change if the characters from "Hercules" were involved. Well, maybe instead of Morgana and Undertow, Ursula and Hades would show up in her place to try to kill Melody. And we would learn that Hades resurrected Ursula from the Sea of Souls (or whatever he did to revive Jafar in the "Hercules" episode, "Hercules and the Arabian Night"). Most of the events of "The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea" would be similar, but at the same time it would differ from the original.

So, like, the thing is, you're right about a lot of this, especially in theory. He doesn't care about Hera's happiness, per se, or what she thinks of him, because if he did, then he'd stop cheating on her. Zeus's affairs are the worst-kept secret on Olympus. Obviously he doesn't actually care about being seen as a scumbag. HOWEVER, bringing it up in front of all the gods is an entirely different story. The disrespect comes from her not-so-quietly saying the loud part. Nothing he does can be seen as being a scumbag, but that doesn't mean other gods don't think it in their heads. That doesn't mean bringing it up isn't an ISSUE.
If the whole thing was about "questioning his authority" then he would have smited other gods besides Athena. They all voted to free Odysseus. If it was about "questioning his authority" then he would have just shut her down in the first place instead of setting up a game. Sure, he expected her to lose the game (he picked gods who had beef with Odysseus or were indifferent to him), but he still gave her a chance to win. You know how we know he gave her a chance to win? He didn't ask her to convince Poseidon. He wasn't against the idea of her winning. If he was, he would have invited the one god who will absolutely not change his mind. So her winning CAN'T be the issue at hand.
You're right: he's the god of justice. He is supposed to be just. And we know he's not rational, we know he IS a sore loser, but like I said, if he wanted total authority, he wouldn't have set the game up in the first place, or he would have invited Poseidon. The game was supposed to show his "justice." It was supposed to be a way to show his "mercy." He can't backtrack on what he's done to Odysseus. That undermines his authority. He CAN give Athena a chance to PROVE he should show mercy. That DOESN'T undermine his authority. It makes him merciful, a God Of The People. He didn't want her to win, per se, but he didn't set a challenge that she was sure to lose. And the LEAST just thing he can do is smite her just for winning a game that he set in place for her. He set that law: win, and Odysseus goes free. Backtracking on his own rules and deals directly undermines him as the god of justice whose words are law. Now, we know he's not above it, and we know he'll act irrationally in the moment, but again, if he completely wanted her to lose, he would have just invited Poseidon and the whole thing would have been over.
Finally, going back to original sources. "God games" didn't really occur in the Odyssey. Athena went up to Zeus, said "hey, can we give him a break" and Zeus went "Eh. I guess." A friend of mine put it that Original Zeus was bored, and Epic Zeus was another kind of bored where he set up God Games to entertain himself, which fits in line more with this kind of idea from the original myth that Zeus is just kinda bored so why not, let the little man free. It's a show of power, sure. But it's also a GAME.
Those original sources also come back to my original point of "it's because of the way she convinced Hera": Zeus is NOT unconcerned with how Hera views him. Sure, he's going to keep lying and cheating, because whatever, but he is NOT unconcerned with how Hera will react. He's always turning himself or his lovers into animals so that Hera won't figure out what he's done. Those are not the actions of someone who doesn't care if his wife finds out. He's always slinking around, hiding his affairs, and then scooting back to Olympus to hide when Hera inevitably DOES find out. He obviously doesn't care in the way I said earlier, where if he cared, he'd just stop cheating, but he still cares if Hera is mad at him, because an angry Hera is a force to be reckoned with. And Athena just reminded Hera about all those affairs. He DEFINITELY cares about that. Like I said, in THEORY, he'd be unconcerned because he can't be seen as a scumbag, yada yada yada, but in PRACTICE, he 100% totally cares if Hera is mad at him.
Y'know, I don't think Zeus claimed Athena disrespected him just because she won the game. Like, he's definitely a big sore loser baby, but I'm preeeetty sure it's not that she won the game, it's because the WAY she won the game was by leveraging the fact that he constantly cheats on his wife to get Hera to vote free Odysseus. THAT'S where the "disrespect" comes in. Not by winning, but by winning via reminding Hera that he's a lying cheating scumbag, hitting his marriage and more importantly to him, his sex life (aka, hitting him where it'll actually make him hurt)

Callisto
written for @ob-levi-on ❤ (sorry it took a while, I hope you like it)
warning: Oikawa Tooru x fem!reader; hurt to comfort
Derived from Greek κάλλιστος (kallistos) meaning "most beautiful". In Greek mythology Callisto was a nymph who was loved by Zeus. She was changed into a she-bear by Hera, and subsequently became the Great Bear constellation.

The first time you saw him, it was the word beautiful that defined him. There was a friendly match on Aoba Johsai's volleyball court. The bleachers were full of spectators, it was loud. Cheers and shouts can be heard, especially when the setter plays, the girls' screams will intensify.
That place was not your usual place as you prefer a more tranquil place. With eyes gleamed with passion, his hands were flexing to set the ball, and a smile plastered on his face in the euphoria of scoring. You cannot deny the fact that you were captivated at the moment.
He's still the same guy he was in high school, but with tanned skin and a more athletic form. He looks more mature in his mid-20s, but his grin is still familiar. You watch him play, basking in the shade of the sunset. He wipes his glistening sweat and exchanges compliments with his teammates.
You once again concentrate on the majestic heavenly body which is about to lie beneath the horizon. Mix and ooze another paint to mimic the scenery while the sand grains massage your bare feet. This is a beautiful serene time to end your day.
Day by day, you come to the white sandy beach at the same hour. And you can always find him in the same arena. It seems that the universe is on your side as you continue to cross his path all the time. Unconsciously, you started to include the beach volleyball team in your painting.
"What a beautiful painting." Too lost in your thought, the man you've been thinking about was already standing right in front of you.
It only starts with a single compliment that leads to hello and self-introduction. Even though you went to the same high school, you were just an acquaintance. You prefer to start fresh - it will be awkward if he doesn't remember you. And he plays along with you.
"My name is Oikawa Tooru," he said.
You tell him your name in exchange, taking his hand outstretched hand; it's bigger and warmer than yours. There's a sense of friction from meeting and parting with his hand. Some other time, you meet him again during his usual beach volleyball match.
At first, all the banters were light. You giggle at his expression when he failed to reach the ball. He tells you so many silly theories and during his break, he will eagerly explain some volleyball techniques.
But as time goes by, slowly but surely he peels off, showing his true self. He's much more profound than the facade - the smoothness of his ice shell where an ocean of deep feeling lies.
He tells you how he used to push himself unhealthily, to the point where he put himself at risk. He tells about his insecurity and how he has dealt with it and is still working on it. His vulnerability makes you want to give him a hug, which you keep alone to yourself.
Sharing the sunset with him and watching the ethereal sunlight are the moments you look forward to everyday. A precious moment with an important person that you want to hold so dearly. You didn't know he can be even more beautiful with the proximity, to find that there are freckles that spread out like tiny stars on his face.
Unfortunately, today the person who shares the sunset with him is not you. There's already a beautiful woman giggling beside him, casually pinching his cheek while letting out a carefree laugh. She looks much more mature but still freshly beautiful, her long brunette hair waves gracefully as the wind rises.
She's the definition that age only flourishes her with grace. And in the sunset light, her head resting on his broad shoulder. Their interaction was too close to your liking. But who are you to feel even a glimpse of jealousy?
You walk away from the beachside with a weight on your feet. Something burns in your chest, you never know you want him so bad, to be someone who has significance in his life. It makes sense why Zeus come to snatch Callisto away because of her beauty and his own curse, love. Even when he had to deceive those around him.
The next day you come again to the beach, sitting bench aways from your usual place, seeking for therapy by painting the sunset again. Today's sunset is painfully pink as she’s is in love, a bit contrast to your broken heart.
But your presence isn’t getting unnoticed to the volleyball player with a number 13. He comes up to you and sits right beside you, admiring your look everytime you graze another paint on your canvas. If only you notice his gaze, he is in awe and love struck.
He asks why are you not sitting at your usual place. Your eyes still glued to the canvas from the start, ignoring his intense look because you fear those brown orbs will enchant you, making you fall all over again.
You half-heartedly answer with an argument that you need to take this spot since people were blocking the view.
"Besides, I thought today you were with your girlfriend again," you add, biting the inside of your cheeks. You try to speak in the most neutral tone, not realizing you're totally a terrible liar from your slightly pouted lips and furrowed brows.
Now all you can hear is Oikawa chuckle that confused you, successfully gathering your attention to him. You meet his teasing eyes and infamous grin.
"As I remember, I don't have any girlfriend. The last girl I met yesterday was my sister. It's been a while since the last time she visited Argentina, I missed her so much."
"Besides, what if the girl I want to be my girlfriend is sitting right in front of me?"
Under the hues of the beautiful sunset, you're dumbfounded. He pierces right into your heart, heat creeping up your cheeks. Because you didn't expect that beautiful Callisto will catch you first. While you always think every aspect of him is so dazzling, he believes you're the most beautiful one.

10 Myths About Hellenismos
Today, let's address some popular myths (and the truths) about Hellenismos and its deities. Not very surprisingly, most of these things come from Wicca or Christian colonization. You can believe these things if you want, they just aren't from the religion.
Myth 1: Deity work is dangerous
Truth: Deity work, in Hellenismos, isn't any more dangerous than worshiping the Christian god is supposed to be. This notion didn't originate in Hellenismos, and is also a largely neopagan idea. Our theoi aren't monsters or aggressive. They won't kill you over tiny mistakes. Just respect them, do what you can, and you'll be fine.
Remember that even in the mythos, people aren't smited for the wrong offering. They're smited for blatant and deliberate disrespect, which by nature can't be done accidentally.
Our deities genuinely aren't easily angered. They wont be mad if you reach out to them, if you confuse them for something else, if you give them the wrong offering, etc.
Myth 2: You need to look out for entities impersonating deities
Truth: Again, this isn't remotely from Hellenismos. Our gods cannot be impersonated by evil entities. Frankly, we don't really have entities with that desire or power in the religion. If you're contacting a Hellenic deity, and you get an affirmative response, you contacted them. The idea you didn't, or that something else is lying to you, is from outside the religion. Our deities are more powerful than random ghosts, and our religion doesn't have that concept.
Myth 3: Hekate is a moon goddess/crone
Truth: Hekate is associated with the moon, but she is not a goddess of the moon. She is the goddess of one lunar phase--the dark moon, which is on the eve of Hekate's Deipnon. She is also not a crone goddess outside of neopaganism and Wicca. Historically, she was depicted as a maiden. Her triple form was also not maiden/mother/crone, simply a triple maiden-esque figure.
Myth 4: Hestia gave her seat to Dionysos/Apollon took Helios's chariot
Truth: Honestly, it's just a difference in counting. Some deities were and weren't Olympians depending on time, culture, and locations. No seats on Olympos were "given up," it's just that sometimes one is there and sometimes the other isn't.
As for the chariot, no. Apollon didn't replace Helios. They were synchronized, but Apollon didn't "take" the chariot, and Helios was never removed. Helios is still the sun--his name is literally "sun."
Myth 5: The myths are history/Hellenic Polytheists believe in the myths
Truth: The characters in myths are real to us, and some myths are literal, but in general, Hellenic mythology is not meant to be taken fully literally. Most of it is symbolic. Additionally, a lot of the r*pe in the mythos is translation errors. We believe in our heroes and our gods, and we believe there is truth in the myths, but no, our mythology isn't like Christian mythology--it's not expected or really encouraged to believe the myths are strictly true history. The myths aren't even consistent over time and location, so it's simply impossible to believe in all of them at once. But no, our gods do not act the way they do in mythology. Myths are by and for mortals, and do not capture the divine.
Myth 6: It's disrespectful to dress up as or write fiction about the gods
Truth: This is just ridiculous and ahistoric. The majority of Ancient Greek theater was deity cosplay and fanfiction. I said what I said.
This can definitely be done disrespectfully, but isn't inherently disrespectful. You also aren't required to represent the theoi fully accurately in this.
Myth 6: X god is Y orientation/gender
Truth: While you can certainly theorize our theoi's sexuality, and none of our gods are cishet by modern standards, none of the gods can only be interpreted as one gender or orientation. The terms we ascribe to them are based on mythos, portrayals, and modern interpretation of historic social roles.
The most common of these theories are maiden goddesses as aroace (ie. Hestia, Athena, Artemis), erastes (top) gods as bi men (ie. Zeus, Apollon, Patroklos), eromenos (bottom) gods as gay men (ie. Ganymedes, Hyakinthos, Akhilleus), and Artemis as a lesbian.
None of these are wrong, to be clear. It's just not as simple as using our modern labels for them. Erastes and eromenos were both considered straight in Ancient Greece; being a 'virgin' didn't always mean celibate; Artemis can be interpreted as bi, lesbian, and/or aroace based on her myths. You can interpret them however you like--I certainly interpret my gods as queer--but there is no single right answer.
Myth 7: You need a patron or to be devoted to someone, or can only have one patron/be devoted to one god, & devotion is an oath
Truth: Patron deities are more of a principle in neopaganism and Wicca than in Hellenismos. Worshiping the theoi does not require you to find a patron or devote to a deity, ever. Patronage is not particularly important or common, unless you are thinking of a patron god of a trade (ie. if you're a blacksmith your patron is Hephaistos).
Devotion is also not exclusive, and never requires an oath. Oaths in Hellenismos are extremely serious, and should never be taken without extreme caution. If you aren't willing to die if you break the oath, don't make it--find something else. You probably wont die, but that's the necessary level of certainty. Devotion, while serious, is not as serious as being oath-bound. You can be devoted to multiple deities, and devotion can be called off if needed. You can't really call off an oath.
Myth 8: X god is a r*pist!
Truth: Please stop it. Just stop it. No. Especially if you're basing that on Lore Olympus. The mythology isn't fact, weird inaccurate mythology fanfic written by someone who doesn't know anything about the myths isn't fact.
The mythology isn't straight up history. The myths were often mistranslated (the Greek word for r*pe didn't just mean r*pe) and they aren't facts. They were also products of their culture. So. No. They are not. And their worshipers aren't r*pe apologists.
Myth 9: Titans are evil and/or Olympians hate titans
Truth: Titans are fine. Really. They're not evil, they're not going to hurt you. They're just another kind of Theoi. Many of them were actually a large part of the historic religion. Hekate's Deipnon was a monthly festival, after all. And no, Olympians don't hate titans. Remember the point about myths not being literal.
Myth 10: The gods are jealous
Truth: No, the gods will not be jealous if you worship another god. They wont be jealous if you worship another pantheon, or if you need a break. If you're a god consort, they won't be jealous if you're interested in other mortals or deities. If you're a devotee, they won't be upset if you devote to other deities.
The most jealous a god gets is upset if you break an oath, promise, or agreement with them. If you promised them a daily libation but skipped it for another deity without permission, they may get upset. But even then, that's not really jealousy.
Myth 11: If you work with X deity, you can't work with Y
Truth: This is usually based on rivalry in mythology, and isn't true at all. Related to the above jealousy point, no deity in real life hates another deity, especially not enough that if you worship both they'll be upset. You can worship Aphrodite and Persephone. You can honor Hera and Leto.
Most of these gods are actually happy if you honor other theoi. Many of them are family, or share domains.
If enough people are interested, I might make a part two, because this is barely the tip of the iceberg. RBs welcome from pagans and non-pagans alike.

So more Olympus episode 190 wrecked me.
But the silver lining I can see is that zeus’s punishment will not only backfire horribly on him, this decision will most likely get him dethroned.
My theory is that Olympus and the underworld will not only be furious about Zeus cutting off their worlds from the mortal realm as the gods need to help their worshippers and most of their business is in the mortal realm, they’ll see his punishment to Persephone and Demeter as cruel and unjust as Persephone did have legitimate reason for her act of wrath, and Zeus isolating Persephone in the manner he did while forbidding the gods from going to the mortal will make them question why he gave such a harsh punishment when the other gods did worse for much pettier reasons.
Thus making everyone dig deeper into his actions.
What will make things worse for Zeus is not only turning everyone against him, including hades as he will not lay down and take what Zeus did to Persephone and cut off Olympus from the underworld as an act of rebellion, when Kronos escapes and takes Olympus hostage, he will reveal Persephone is a fertility goddess and that’s why Zeus gave that punishment to save himself.
Since the gods can’t fulfill their duties in the mortal realm because of zeus’s verdict to keep everyone away from Persephone, they’ll likely become weak and won’t be strong enough to fight Kronos.
Meanwhile Persephone, while depressed from being isolated again and not seeing her mom and hades, now has the freedom to explore her powers and become more powerful, she’ll start getting worshippers as she blesses them with more crops and wild life, and if her female worshippers become pregnant thanks to her, that will let her know she is a fertility goddess.
And if Zeus makes excuses that her work is not up yo his satisfaction (as an excuse to keep her imprisoned) I can see Persephone become more wrathful and stand up yo Zeus while realizing his punishment was never about her act of wrath but wanting yo stifle her power when she learns he knows she’s a fertility goddess.
That will cause Persephone to finally snap and defy Zeus and she’ll likely scape to the underworld to take the pomegranate.
When winter happens, that will be the straw that breaks the camels back and Olympus will demand that hades and Persephone depose Zeus, but instead of taking Olympus, they make hera the sole queen of the gods and heavens while Zeus will be banished to the mortal realm as the god of thunder and lightening.

Chapter 8 - We Capture a Flag
Theme of the day: Hidden motives
The most mild chapter title so far lolol.
Let’s start with Percy’s hidden motive: bringing his mother back from the underworld. At this point, Percy assumes that his mom died in the Minotaur attack and based on his mythological knowledge, knows that spirits can be brought back from the dead by going to the underworld and physically getting them back to the land of the living. I haven’t really touched on Percy’s grief, but we also only get small moments on it: his brief grieving after he wakes up in the Big House (when he’s like the whole world should be black and cold nothing should look beautiful 😭), his small toast to her with a blue drink, even his whole plan to go to the underworld is likely denial or bargaining. Tbh Percy hasn’t been given a lot of time to really process Sally’s apparent death since he’s been going from one thing to the next in the few days after it happened. But I think since he found a small ray of hope like... an hour after waking up at camp, he grabbed onto that and isn’t letting go anytime soon. What else is a child supposed to do after losing their parent? He’s certainly not given the guidance he’d need as someone who’s recently experienced that kind of loss either.
Compared to Percy or the other characters with hidden motives, Annabeth’s isn’t that extreme lol. After capture the flag, Percy finds out that Annabeth put him on border patrol to draw Clarisse’s attention, knowing she’d go after him bc of her hurt pride. And it went all according to keikaku. This might be far off, but I’ve been wondering if Annabeth had inklings that Percy is specifically a child of Poseidon? When she has that confirmation, she doesn’t really finish her thought of “I didn’t want...” so maybe it’s possible? Like “I didn’t want it to be true that you’re Poseidon’s kid, I assumed it would be Zeus bc he’s already has a strike. Having one god of the Big Three break the pact is bad enough” kind of thing? Could be another reason to put Percy on border patrol since it’s by the creek and she could possibly test out her theory? Again this might be a bit of a stretch 😂
Speaking of Poseidon, claiming Percy at the moment he did just screams hidden motives. Or maybe it’s a secret’s out might as well lol. Imagine Poseidon just chilling in his underwater palace and being like whelp the jig is up ig ahaha. But anyway, I think this was addressed later in the book? That Poseidon is accused of using Percy as a tool? Like he chose that moment instead of anytime earlier because he needed Percy to go on the quest for the master bolt. Maybe it’s a bit of both options lol.
While not revealed yet, Luke also has hidden motives as an agent of Kronos. So far the only indication that something is amiss is Chiron stating that someone from camp summoned the hellhound, when they’re not supposed to be in the camp’s forest. I can remember if he did anything else besides the obvious stealing of a certain lightning bolt and shadow helm and blaming it on Percy lmao. I’ve already talked a little about Luke’s reasons for being Kronos’s agent in my previous chapter post and I don’t have that much to add to it probably until the last chapter lol. So I’ll hold off on it.
Shout out to the characters without hidden motives like Grover who really wants to be a searcher! Clarisse who just wants to beat up Percy 😂 All the campers who only wanted to have a good game of capture the flag and have their side win without all this hellhound-Big Three-child-claiming nonsense haha. Also Annabeth because her main goal rn is going on a quest.
Small things:
Luke being a good mentor makes me go hnnnnngggg
GROVER’S SHADE AT ZEUS THAT HAVING AFFAIRS IS HIS JOB NOT HERA’S SJDFHSDFJ
Oh dear Percy’s already feeling inferior of Thalia and she’s a tree rn

I admit, even if i'm a big LO fan i really like your blog and i agree with some opinions here.
I would like to give my opinion of some things that i need to get off my chest about Persephone's act of wrath:
1. The gods needing a permit for an act of wrath on humans is stupid, how does that even work? Someone offends them so they get angry and go to Zeus and if Zeus is on board with it he gives them a papper that says "Zeus let me do this"??? Like, an act of wrath like Persephone's is something that happends when a god snaps, it happends in the moment. How does Zeus think they will be calm enough to walk away, go talk to him and get a permit from him? That's just stupid. Also, Zeus literally burned Demeter's field out of anger because she didn't wanted to hyde one of he's misstress, so he isn't exactly good at controling he's wrath either.
2. Persephone's anger towards those humans that killed her nymph friends shouldn't be taken as something bad, they had a deal with Demeter and they break it, witch resulted in Persephone's friends (that she created) being murdered and in top of all when she told them to stop they laugh and make fun of her. Imagine being a 19 year old goddess that just had a fight with your overprotective mother, is in a bad mood and in a moment of anger you yell at your childhood friends, that you created by the way, just to turn around and seeing them desintegrating in front of you and the last thing that you told them is "i want you guys to leave me alone" in top of all, when you go and confront the killers they laugh at you because you're just "some minor goddess" hell, i would have snapped too! Not saying that what Persephone did was okay but i can undestand why she finally snapped.
3.Those humans who cut the flowers would and should have been punished anyway, killing nymphs was a big deal in mythology (i have the theory that Persephone's act of wrath was based on the myth of Demeter and Erisicton, were the King Erisicton wanted to use the trees on a forest sacred to Demeter to build the forniture of he's palace, and he ended up killing a dryad (i think that's the name for a forest/tree nymph) so Demeter cused him and the dude ended up eating he's own daughter and himself) Hell, even offending a nymph was considered worth of a punishment, look at Andromeda's Mother, she almost got her daughter killer for claiming she was more beutifull than the ocean nymphs. So i don't see why those humans wouldn't have been punished if Kore would have just told her mother way they did.
4. Killing and punishing mortals wasn't even a big deal in greek mythology:
.Hera had no remorse in cursing and killing Zeuse's "lovers" and bastard children.
. Athena turned a woman into a spider and depending of the version she turned Medusa into a monster.
.Artemis and Apollo killed the 14 kids of a Queen who claimed to be better than their mother, Leto.
.Poseidon, with the help of Aphrodite, make Mino's wife fall in love with a bull and had the bull's baby as revenge for not sacrifasing said bull in he's honor.
.Zeus send an ex-king to Tartarus for claiming that he sleep with Hera.
So the fact that RS make a law in LO of "no killing/punishinf mortals" really makes no sense to me.
(Sorry for the mistakes, i'm still learning inglish)
Thank you for sharing your opinion (I agree with what you're saying btw)
Also, your English is really good for someone who's learning 👍

reaction to the lost hero by rick riordan
imma be honest this is a long time coming, okay so here’s the timeline we’re looking at so you understand me. i read lightning thief in middle school, dropped it and read it again in ninth grade. then i read sea of monsters, but never started titan’s curse. then for some reason in 11th grade i bought the second book in heroes of olympus and started to read it and got confused so i started to read titan’s curse and got to when percy took artemis’s place and then dropped it...again. very sad that time considering it was LEGIT THE END SO CLOSE. anyway yesterday i read the whole thing again and the battle of the labrinyth in like 6-8 hours. idk i can’t remember if i started at 10pm or midnight but i finished at 6am. anyways today i read the last olympian, and now i’m starting the lost hero. i thought it’d be funny to do my reactions.
this timeline is just funny because i have read so many books, and yet the most popular ones like percy jackson and harry potter, didn’t wanna finish lol. i still haven’t finished goblet of fire yet i read 100 pages an hour and could probably finish it in a day. anyways.
let the reactions begin
okay i’ve heard of jason but i was not expecting a pov already
woah electrocution
he’s already got a love interest what
he said the coach is 5’0 i now imagine the coach as danny devito i have no choice
piper and leo yes i recognize these names
(i’ve seen a lot of posts about percy jackson okay)
i like leo i don’t like dylan
i love the starwars reference
oh look guys we got popular girls that are racist, can they get their asses beat in this pls
dylan is also racist for smiling-asswipe
we love the cherokee representation
i hate them so much can they please leave
“i had to say something” i like coach hedge is this bad
i hope percy is the storm but i just know i wouldn’t be that lucky
ofc dylan is a racist monster
danny devito never returned :(
PLS TELL ME THESE REINFORCEMENTS ARE PERCY AND ANNABETH
who is the bulky dude
i’m sorry i’m laughing he’s a big scary dude with his head shaved and A RAINBOW TATTOO and his name is butch
oh so that’s why percy isn’t here
okay usually when reading i can form some kind of theory or connection but at this point i literally have no clue what is happening
i just knew as soon as he asked that he had abilities with fire but i was not expecting fire fingers
wow what a first impression “you should be dead”
wait so all i remember from the son of neptune was the beginning had percy alone i think and i’m not sure if he had his memory or maybe not and he was running away from monsters, so is what’s happening to jason similar to that? and WILL PERCY NOT BE FOUND IN THIS BOOK?
“That also was necessary. Long ago, your father gave me your life as a gift to placate my anger. He named you Jason, after my favorite mortal. You belong to me.
“Whoa,” Jason said. “I don’t belong to anyone.”
Now is the time to pay your debt, she said. Find my prison. Free me, or their king will rise from the earth, and I will be destroyed. You will never retrieve your memory.”
... okay theories, um a goat skin cloak was mentioned to have been owned by Zeus’s foster mother and that he owned it so the woman could either be the foster mother or Hera. If it was Hera, it would make sense that Zeus gave his son to placate her anger at his cheating or whatever. They are also trapped in Olympus, so prison would make sense. Hera was brought up a lot too, and according to wiki Hera persuaded Aphrodite to make her son make Medea fall in love with a mortal named Jason, so more than likely the lady is Hera. Their king will rise from earth could be the king from the battle of the labrynth, maybe. Or another king ya know there are so many.
Wait a minute
Something else I know about their names is Jason’s last name...JASON GRACE I thought it sounded familiar, because of Thalia Grace. Hah look at me being correct. That explains the flying and not being burnt by a lightning bolt—oh I’m stupid for not seeing it sooner.
Now just gotta figure out who Piper’s parent is.
Aha so I was right it was Hera.
Chiron not being able to give the information they need is kind of annoying.
Enceladus? So a giant offspring of Gaia, um...no bueno. Not a king tho.
“Child of lightning, beware the earth, The giants’ revenge the seven shall birth, The forge and dove shall break the cage, And death unleash through Hera’s rage.”
Okay theory time, child of lightning is obviously Jason. Beware the Earth...yeah no clue. The giants’ revenge the seven shall birth, the giants are probably the children of Gaia since that one giant was her child and it’s the seven are probably the seven half bloods from the great prophecy. The forge and dove shall break the cage, um maybe Leo is the forge since he’s hephaestus’s child (probably butchered the spelling). Doves are typically associated with aphrodite/venus, so idk about that. Maybe Piper is Venus’s child, I mean her God parent is her mom and it’d be funny since she was judging the other aphrodite kids. Also I assume Hera will kill whoever trapped her or someone involved since she’s so mad. Idk.
Could kill Drew btw.
CALLED IT CALLED IT CALLED IT IM A GENIUSSS
Wait. This woman looks like Hera, her clothes are made of Earth and she said Leo would fight her children trying to wake her. They’re gonna try to wake Gaia, which would make sense that it said stay away from Earth if she’s the Earth Goddess
I like the wolves thing because Romulus and Remus, ya know the twin boys who were raised by wolf and started Rome.
“You are our saving grace, as always. The she-wolf curled her lip, as if she had just made a clever joke”
I mean yeah his last name is grace
“She must really like this Percy guy to search for him so hard, and that made Jason a little envious. Was anyone searching for him right now? What if somebody cared for him that much and was going out of her mind with worry, and he couldn’t even remember his old life?”
so what if Percy’s just chilling at the Roman version of camp halfblood without a clue to who he is? bro.
Imagine reading this and seeing all of things I get right and wrong and wanting to slam your head into a wall.
Okay like idk why Annabeth was freaking out we kind of knew they were siblings, I mean they have the same dad. Unless this is saying they have the same mom or are twins or something. That’d be cool. That’s probably what he’s saying tbh but still, could’ve emphasized it more than “that’s my sister” like dude.
Anyway, they look very different so that’s funny.
King Boreas? uh.
Oo French
Let’s see what I can translate from the very little duolingo I did. Bienvenu, maybe a greeting. Idk which tho. Je suis Piper, I am Piper. Et c’est Jason, fils de Zeus, and this is Jason, son of Zeus. Vous parlez francais? tres bien, you speak french? good. Hey not bad, not shockingly good but considering I did the duolingo lessons 4 years ago, not bad. Vrai? Truth? Yeah I just looked it up.
Danny devito is alive!
“Leo scratched his head. “Well, I dunno about Enchiladas—”
“Enceladus,” Piper corrected.”
Leo is me omfg
DANNY DEVITO IS BACK
Arrows...HUNTERS OF ARTEMIS PLS?
“Leo stepped out next. “You’re catching me, too, Superman. But I ain’t holding your hand.”
this made me laugh ok moving on
Uh fight a sea monster? bro is Jason just Percy 2.0
“Aphrodite’s message was clear: This one needs no improvement.
And Piper agreed.”
I wonder if you can hear me squealing from hundreds or thousands of miles away
Did you miss the fact that he’s thirty feet tall— I DIED
Who slew titan k-what now? So basically yes. Percy 2.0
Okay I recognize the name Hazel, and all I ask is that she is not involved with Jason because Jason and Piper are really freaking cute.
an exchange of leaders, SO THEY DID SWITCH THEM
The way I called it
I WAS RIGHT AHA
anyways. time to read son of neptune

A very bad review, but you’ll get the point
I hope you’re ready for this, because I’m basically just going to put my read along notes into actual sentences.
Oh. Oh I forgot what Jason being dead felt like. I don’t appreciate the feeling, not the way they had to get him to Camp Jupiter. I love love love Lavinia though. She’s incredible and I wish she was a real person so I could date her. I knew Artemis/Diana would show up because of just how much more she’s mentioned in this book. and the fact that she’s so torn up about Apollo’s welfare is precious. I don’t want to wait a month to get my tattoo, really. This book just reinforces how much these two love each other. (In fact, Apollo’s whole journey throughout this series is really just about looking at what a healthy familial unit means and it’s Emotional.) Frank is the cutest badass ever. His growth from shy kid in Son of Neptune to the selfless confident praetor he is now brings tears to my eyes. “The Fall of Jason Grace” should never be a real song because I think it would actually kill me. Terminus continues to be a very sassy and protective statue border. I want to join the I Hate Hera club. Uncle Rick writing memes into this book and actually getting away with it WELL... I’m impressed. Get REKT Zeus/Jupiter. No one likes you and you’re ugly. I got chills like every other paragraph. ALL CONVERSATIONS SHOULD REQUIRE AN ELEPHANT. I cannot BELIEVE that Apollo shooting his stupid mortal shot is what healed Reyna’s heart ( and now our baby’s a Hunter of Artemis, I’m proud but I don’t want to know what this news will do to my main son Nico Di Angelo [who lost his big sister to them, and now his big sister figure and my baby doesn’t deserve this but it’s FINE]). The unicorns will probably be used in battle for the rest of their lives, and we have Meg to praise for this development. A-POLL-O! I’m so glad you’re beaten up about past mistakes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ QUIT BREAKING PERCY JACKSON’S FIRST LAW APOLLO! Also Apollo’s growth in this series is gorgeous! We Stan forever. THE WAKANDA THING. “And I’m the son of Mars, praetor of the Twelfth Legion Fulminata. I’m not afraid to die. Are you?” PERCY IS SHOUTING HIS PRAISE ALL THE WAY FROM NYC, EVERY ONE IS SO FLUFFING PROUD OF YOU FRANK ZHANG YOU LITERALLY HAVE NO IDEA. Tarquins, the dumbass interrogated a cat. I CANNOT. Leo = sacrificed himself in a fiery explosion and still made it out alive. Frank did the same thing. Coincidence? Maybe so. Theory time: Apollo has adventured with Percy, Leo, Piper, Jason (RIP), Hazel, and Frank. The one member of the seven he hasn’t interacted with? One Annabeth Chase. Apollo and Meg are returning to New York AND going on a literal word search. Rick is TOTALLY setting up her entrance to this series and I am positively thrilled.

thewivesofriversong replied to your post: “Diana was a clay statue brought to life and her...
first of all: yes. second of all: I don’t suppose you’d be inclined to do like a hate-summary of New 52 WW? xD bc I gave up on it almost immediately but I’m reading Rebirth WW now and it would be nice to have a better understanding everything Rebirth is now deconstructing haha
SURE, I’ll take a crack at it, although I only got up to about halfway through the run so far, I had to take a break so I could scream about how frustrating it was
the premise of the first arc is that a human girl, Zola, was impregnated by Zeus and now Hera wants revenge on her but Wonder Woman is going to protect her. which is actually a premise that I think is pretty cool and I am on board for in theory but it becomes super weird.
Hermes leads Zola to Diana, and Diana takes her to Themyscira to shelter her. but, Strife (Eris, is the goddess they’re portraying here, but for some reason she’s referred to only as “Strife”?) shows up on the island and starts sowing discord. The Amazons turn on Zola once they find out she’s pregnant with a demigod, and Hera shows up to curse them all. Diana’s like “I was made from clay tho??” and Hera flips out and makes Hippolyta confess to Diana that she’s actually the child of Zeus and all that nonsense. Then, Hera in her anger turns Hippolyta into a clay statue (because irony) and turns all the other Amazons into snakes (!!)
Diana is weirdly less upset than she should be about the fact that her entire people were turned into snakes and her mom was statue-fied but whatever. Also she’s like “I’m shocked but I’m glad that it turns out my mother, whom I thought was never my REAL mother, is related to me by blood after all!” bc fuck adoptive parents amirite
Diana, Hermes, and Zola go off on a sort of world road trip trying to collect other demigod children of Zeus because there’s a prophecy about a child of Zeus taking over his throne and ... Zeus has disappeared, leaving the throne empty and the other gods squabbling over it. So all the gods are also trying to get their hands on Zola so they can steal the baby. It basically turns into a tour of this particular writer+artist’s edgy reinterpretation of the Greek gods where Diana goes around and either fights or talks to all of them.
when she meets Hephaestus is where he tells her the thing about the Amazons selling their male children into slavery, because all of them now work for him in his forges, and Diana tries to be like “then you men are all Amazons, too! that makes you my brothers! will you help me?” and they’re like “no, fuck that, Amazons got rid of us and we’re staying with Hephaestus” which... I can’t blame them but it still seemed really sad and cynical
At one point, Zola gets kidnapped by Hades and sucked down into the Underworld, so Diana goes after her. For.... reasons, this ends with Hades trying to force Diana to MARRY HIM so Diana fakes being in love with Hades and he dresses her up in a super gothy high fashion wedding dress and is like “I’ll only marry you if you are truly in love with me” and ties her lasso of truth around her neck like a noose and she admits it was all just a ploy and then rides a horse out of the Underworld on a river of blood. this is an EXTREMELY WEIRD COMIC BOOK, Y’ALL.
After Zola’s baby is born, it is immediately kidnapped by Hermes, who runs away with it, and “protect the pregnant lady by going to different places and meeting weird god characters” turns into “hunt for the baby by going to different places and meeting weird god characters” basically?
There’s a #0 issue where it turns out that Diana was secretly trained to fight by Ares when she was teenager, even though he’s historically one of her enemies and represents the evils of war that she opposes, because why should any of Diana’s talents come from the Amazons, instead of being the best example of her people’s warrior spirit she has to have been trained by the male god of war, fuck this comic
In issue #13, Orion (as in from the New Gods) shows up, which is the literal first time anything from the larger DCU has appeared in the series and I was like “okay, so we’re getting some stuff that has to do with Fourth World or Apokolips or not just Olympian gods, right?” but he just sort of... joins Diana’s party of people (also he hits on her a bunch? I don’t know much about the New Gods but has Orion historically acted like a frat bro???) and the book keeps doing the same shit
Turns out the prophecy is actually about the First-Born, who is a giant super powerful dude that was apparently the child of Zeus and Hera but was imprisoned in ice for thousands of years and just broke out and now he wants to claim his throne. Diana’s about to fight him and that’s where I stopped.
So, I’m on issue #21, almost halfway through the entire new 52 run, and so far Wonder Woman has not: fought any actual supervillains, met any other superheroes, or interacted with any normal civilian people other than Zola. like, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with doing weird offbeat stuff in comics but ... Diana is not a superhero in this book? She’s a demigod exclusively doing stuff with other demigods and actual gods. Like, maybe we could have a story where Wonder Woman stops some crime or saves some people, I feel like that would be a reasonable thing to expect out of Wonder Woman’s ongoing solo series in a reboot that was designed to bring new readers on board with DC comics?? NOPE JUST GOD STUFF
and I love Greek mythology stuff in general, I am literally so on board for it, but the part that makes it work in the other Wonder Woman mythology-heavy stories I’ve read is that it’s still intertwined with the real world. This is just.... like I said, it feels like the writer liked American Gods a lot, and went “here’s a bunch of WEIRD EDGY DARK reinterpretations of Greek gods and also a new backstory for Wonder Woman that gets rid of almost everything good about her backstory”
honestly, all I can say about it in the positive camp is that the art is really pretty and Diana has some nice character moments every few issues or so.
I’m probably going to finish it tomorrow I’ll let you know what I think of the rest and maybe Diana will actually do some superhero stuff at some point
#thewivesofriversong#THIS GOT LONG I'M SORRY#I tried to condense it but there's.... a lot#when I'm done I also need to reread Rebirth to wash the taste out of my mouth#I need that splash page where Diana literally punches a panel collage of the entire revised backstory and is like 'NO MORE OF THESE LIES'
