#so my setting has fey struggle to manifest true self identity instead substituting it with mask which they use as their identity instead

I had a thought and want to get it out of my head and into the world, but do to the nature of it beware of mild body horror(I think that is the right term, if it's not feel free to correct me) so I thought of an interesting concept for a fey's appearance(though it could work for a more person shaped eldritch horror, the two aesthetics have a surprising amount of overlap) that I think fits with that uncanny valley thing they can sometimes have. so at first glance they just look like a person but if you actually look at them some key features will pretty quickly jump out at you. firstly despite definitely having a full face of features, only the mouth catches your attention enough to truly see it(everything else is indistinct no matter how much you try to focus on it). secondly, said mouth has that classic fey smile with far to many teeth(my initial description when I first thought of this concept was "more teeth visible then should reasonably fit in a skull"). and thirdly, whenever it opens its mouth(such as to speak or whatever) you can see through the gap between its teeth the same closed tooth grin it had before behind them
#body horror#fey concept#cosmic horror#maybe? better safe than sorry#teeth#fey#I initially thought it up for a hypothetical future d and d campaign#unfortunately I got inspired by some Filibuster Frog art/world building(good artist would recommend) which had the fey have masks#so my setting has fey struggle to manifest true self identity instead substituting it with mask which they use as their identity instead#(at least those on the more powerful end that can become lords but not powerful enough to 'become their own masks'[which is insanely rare])#so I'm sure you can see why it probably couldn't fit(unless the teeth themselves are the 'mask' and thus the only distinct thing...)#d and d
