Love the criminal body swap, can you do more maybe with a reverse one where a son swapping with a criminal (can be mob boss or gang leader or someone with power) to escape his abusive life and use the criminal connection to destroy or torment his old family? it can be that the family is affiliated the Mob/Gang and you directly swap with the leader?
Tumblr media
There was this guy in our town that everybody feared and everybody avoided if they had the chance. Even the police. Yeah, he was the new leader of the mafia after his father left him the bussiness. You might think that mafia isn't a modern problem, but it's just not that heard of by the stereotypically boring people like you and me. And for me, it wasn't a problem at all. It was an opportunity.
I recently found out that you can go through a ritual of body swapping if you consume enough of berries in the forest, eat some ingredients bought online and go directly into the sea, your mind will swap with someone you desire to swap.
Why would I want that? I am not a bad looking guy. I have good grades, possibly a bright future ahead. But there is this problem. And it's my own father. Why I was younger the abuse wasn't physical, only emotional, but as I grew older, the physical violence got unbearable. Even my mom never jnterfered. I hated both of them for this.
So I decided to go with the ritual. I had nothing to loose.
Tumblr media
I bathed in the water, hoping for a mirracle. But nothing happened. "Well, that was a waste of money" I emerged from water and went to the shore. As I got out I started to get dizzy. "YESSS. IT'S HAPPENING!"
Tumblr media
The first look scared even myself. "That's me now. I am the mafia boss. I am the most respected man in this town." couldn't get over how manly I was. The tatoos. The manly stench from my armpits. The scent of cologne. My new dick was trying to rip out of my clothes, but there was something I needed to do first.
Tumblr media
I found a cigar in my pocket, I lit it, grabbed my new sunglasses and went to my mafia family.
"Good afternoon everyone. For now, I don't have any issues to discuss. I only have a new target for you. Find a man called Mark Tremons and maybe introduce yourself. You don't have to be very nice. If he cooperates get him to pay up for his bussiness he owns. If not, threaten him with the tax frauds he committed. And If he stills doesn't listen. Well... you know what to do. But call me before. I want to be there and see him beg for his life."
The mafia family didn't even flinch and went on the their mission. This is amazing. They listen to every word I say
Tumblr media
Maybe this is the life I always deserved.
I am definitely going to make the most of it. Time to scare some people and figure out what to do with this hard monster. Oh, I didn't even realise I was hard the entire time I spoke. Everyone could see and I bet none of the ever tries to humiliate me. I have to take care of this dick. I bet it gets so much action all the time. I can fuck whoever I want, whenever I want. Nobody dares to beat me. Life is great
I am home

As much as I want to have Duke Thomas take the Jason Todd/Red Hood slot in a Reverse Robins type story, it feels like it'd be easier to put him in the Barbara Gordon Batgirl/Oracle position. Seeing Batman going about and doing his thing, and then being like, "Yeah, sure, I can pull that off," then having absolutely no quit when it comes to digging into dangerous problems that need to get solved and solving them with smarts and grit. I can also more easily see him catching a few in the spine as collateral damage to psychologically get at his mother more than I can see him getting exploded because he decided to dig into his family history. Imagine Duke's first interaction with Batman is when his parents find the Bat injured and bring him inside to patch him up, much like in canon. I don't doubt that Bruce Wayne would repay the favor, and suddenly Elaine Thomas is a person that Batman sends people to for help while getting all the funding and assistance she could ever ask for (and a lot more that she didn't, but she's not letting it go to waste), while Doug Thomas is brought into a construction labor union on a recommendation nobody can quite place the origin of and begins to work his way up the ranks, being an effective advocate for the rights of the city's workers. Actually, maybe Duke's gunshot wounds are a consequence of the mafia trying to get at Doug Thomas on union business. (MLK got popped speaking at a rally for sanitation workers in Menphis, so it's not like it couldn't happen.) Not even strictly villian related, but a product of the general Gotham environment and how almost every system seems to be corrupt on multiple levels. (Duke: "Do you think one bad day would stop me? It's Gotham, Bruce. Sometimes you just have bad days. Then tomorrow happens and you try again.") He's in a wheelchair for awhile, but slowly starts to heal over time for what seems like no apparent reason. At least until the metagene kicks in fully, anyway.
Then again, Jason Todd's death happened in Ethiopia, and he and Batman were in the country for different reasons. Maybe it'd be easier to get the Thomas Family killed if Duke stayed in Gotham (Jason was supposed to be on the bench if i remember right) and Gnomon popped up to try to claim his son. Things get wild, there's a spike in Metahumans for a week or two as it seems like almost everybody gets to be one, the Justice League on Batman watch to make sure he doesnt kill the Iranian Ambassador (the Joker, somehow), and while it's written off as an issue with the water supply, some get to keep their powers at the cost of being continually shunned and end up being treated somewhere between a like a leper snd like a living bomb.
The "No metas in Gotham" thing (that I'm honestly not sure ever was canon) isn't a Batman rule as much as a "I'm not trying to get hate crime'd so I'm gonna avoid the city like the plague" thing.
Either way, Gnomon ends up beaten and Thomas family ends up dead at the hands of an angry mob while trying to defend innocent metas from the nonsense of some villian. Only, Duke ends up coming back because Superboy Prime's Source Wall punch decides to reactivate Duke's body and metagene. After coming back and recovering in a city that's still, well, Gotham, he decides that that whole Batman thing didn't work and comes at the problem from the other side, making it his personal mission to get at Gotham's crime problem by putting himself in a position where he can fight for people pressured into bad situations, even more so if Gnomon comes back around, wondering why his son would debase himself by spending time among these fragile humans instead of ruling over them. The Omen becomes the feared figure among the mobs and gangs of Gotham, especially when some wake up to a golden hooded figure standing over their bed, before he whispers a warning and fades into the rooms shadows before the light of day fully peeks through the windows. Stories circulate about certain people being protected, like good teachers, preachers, priests, nuns, soup kitchen runners, respected public defenders, certain cops, generally "good" people or people making a positive difference in a way that earns them the animosity of the corrupt. Perhaps the worst of them wake up badly beaten in a jail cell that's permanently darkened by shadow, the only light coming from a small window on the cell door and the glowing eye painted on the ceiling, evidence of their crimes on their chest or on a trusted officer's desk.
Though honestly, I think I just need to learn more about Jason Todd and Barbara Gordon to make either work.
Or maybe just go to sleep.

Why do you think Hamilton seemed a little off compared to his earlier self during his 40s? I haven’t done much research on that specific time, but it seems like he kinda went crazy. Maybe it just piled too high. I am referring to before Philip died.
I actually know what you mean, it almost seems like Hamilton had gone off his rockers with his political and public career near and all throughout his time in his 40's. His remaining days as Treasury Secretary didn't end on the best note, and Hamilton was practically fed up after the whiskey rebellion. But even after resigning from his political position of power, Hamilton could not let go of any opportunity to say what he thought on a matter and continued to engage in the political mass of problems.
With bizarre acts such as like; the publication of the Reynolds Pamphlet, the wild mass slanders in the newspaper criticizing both Jefferson and Adams, even once nearly dueling an entire mob.
“In 1795, after the Jay Treaty was negotiated, Hamilton was trying to explain the advantages of the treaty to an "Anti-Jay Treaty" mob.  Eventually, he became so frustrated with the crowd, that he told them "you have no Constitutional right to express an opinion on the Jay Treaty!" (in other words, he told the mob that they had no right to be a mob!).  Soon, Hamilton was hit on the head with a rock, and he left the building, and went to the street.  In the street, Hamilton (a Federalist) got involved in a confrontational conversation with a Republican, and Hamilton was quickly dismissed as a “fool; then, this same gentleman challenged Hamilton to a duel. Hamilton accepted, and moved on down the street.  Hamilton continued to be harassed by the crowd, and eventually threatened to take on everybody "one by one".  A challenger emerged from the crowd, and challenged Hamilton to a duel in 30 minutes. Hamilton said, "I can’t, I have a previous duel arranged: I will settle my business with you as soon as I take care of this other gentleman."”
(source)
And then when he wrote an entire pamphlet defaming John Adams in favor of Jefferson for the election of 1800, which resulted in the Adams' cabinet, and the federalist part in general, revengeful and spiteful towards Hamilton.
I think it had a lot to do with Washington not only stepping down, but also his death, and on top of the bad name the Reynolds Pamphlet had tarnished Hamilton's name and reputation with. Hamilton was a very hated figure in the political world, but throughout most of it, he always had Washington as his sorta shield that would prevent others from getting in his way too often. So without Washington's support, an affair on his name, and the feud between the Jeffersonians and Adams' cabinet with him; Hamilton was skating across thin ice of stress. These ultimately would trample over him, and his name, which might have caused these outbreaks of rash decisions to the public out of anger and stress. We all know Hamilton dedicated his life to his legacy and career, surely he would crumble under the weight of his name being degraded with the controversies that were owned to it. Or at least that's my belief.

See, that's the thing I don't like about CQL. To me it felt like they're blaming JGY for all the terrible things wwx had done to free wwx from that responsibility and whitewash (to gloss over his crimes not the race thing) wwx. And in the process jgy gets the hate for all the deaths that wwx originally caused and everybody pitied wwx because jgy used him which wasn't what originally happened. I find it unfair as a jgy fan. Jgy was terrible, he'd done a lot of hateful things but they're with reason and of his personal turmoil.
He wasn't the one who ordered the assault in qiongqi path, it was jin zixun and jin guangshan and he's ordered to oversee it even though he knew it was a suicidal mission because he knew wwx was unpredictable and merciless against his enemies. He had no personal issue with wwx, he wasn't the one who cursed jin zixun nor was it him to order su she, he sent jin zixuan in the suicidal mission as a personal resentment because his father didn't once respect him even when he's doing every troublesome tasks for him so he wants jin zixuan, the only accepted son in jgs's eyes, to face some level of trouble he experienced from his father. I think that jgy could have prevented the assault in the first place if he informed jin zixuan before they launched the attack instead but he's that petty 😂
In my opinion, it was actually a better idea to have jin zixuan over there than jgy, because if it was jgy in there, wwx would most likely just kill him as well along with jin zixun and other jin sect disciples and jin guangshan will still use it as an opportunity to sink wwx. With jin zixuan there, he has the authority to stop the raid from jin zixun and also convince wwx to stop but like I mentioned, wwx couldn't trust him.
And the thing is, many people hated wwx, they feared him, they're envious of his power. Jgs for one lusted his power, he had tried to convince him several times to surrender the stygian tiger amulet. But if he couldn't grasp that then he wants wwx to be gone. Many of them waited for an opportunity to find one flaw, one incident that they can blame on wwx, it was easy because of his dangerous reputation, they didn't have to be right to be believed if they were the majority. Jgy knew this, wwx's position was exactly the kind of status jgy wouldn't want for himself that's why he doesn't reject the norm and instead conform to it to rise and dismiss everybody who got in his way out of the eyes of the public. Jgy didn't need to be the one to have a hand in his fall when everybody else wanted wwx gone.
CQL could have gone for that mob attack if they wanted to go for the route of wwx being manipulated by the bigger villain (in this case it's the norm and society? Sorry that might have sounded cheesy) but I doubt that would look good in a Chinese visual media so they opted for a singular villain instead to execute it.
Like your post, I would have loved to point out the vital differences of jgy's character between the original and the adaptations but I haven't finished CQL yet because of those changes.
for me, i think one of the biggest narrative differences between the novel and the untamed/the donghua is:
the untamed and the donghua insert jin guangyao’s direct intervention in intentionally making wei wuxian the villain. In the untamed, jin guangyao uses his own musical skills to control wen ning and the fierce corpses at nightless city to frame wei wuxian. in the donghua it’s stated that traps were set to exponentially increase the amount of resentful energy absorbed by the amulet to force wei wuxian to lose control.
but the novel straight up tells us that wei wuxian… simply lost control. there was no trap, jin guangyao hadn’t targeted him as a scapegoat. jin guangyao simply set a few things in motion and watched how it played out. it was only because wei wuxian hadn’t been able to control the resentful energy the way he thought he could that jin zixuan died, and that the massacre at nightless city happened. he was too confident about his ability to control the amulet and it led to his downfall.
honestly both versions are incredibly fascinating to me and i can’t decide which one i like more. i suppose there isn’t a huge consequence for either path, but i am curious how the fandom feels about it tbh. do we prefer the wei wuxian who was overly confident in his abilities and suffered a fall because of his pride and a well timed ambush, or the wei wuxian who was just as capable as he thought he was, but was set up by the plan of a master strategist who saw him as an easy target?
