Luc (@krchov) put images of terrible omen in my head about how autopsies are performed and now I live with the visions

crawling out of the grave jason's organs were a jumbled mess in his barely held together skin suit, his brain was literally scrambled and missing fluids

his resurrection was no less than a miracle, clawing out of the grave was a second, every breath every step every tightly won fight was yet more, the league was a further miracle

jason todd spent a prophets worth of grace to maintain living through months and months and months

the lazarus pit doesn't leave scars, there's not exception to this, jason todd has an autopsy scar, this is a fact he acknowledges with every shower and change of clothes

when jason was thrown into the pit, he was healed of wounds and scars and maladies, but the pit doesn't know nor care for anatomy, the organs were there, connected, and accounted for, what more could anyone ask for?

with lungs in his abdomen and intestines in his ribs jason came out of the pit barely functional, barely with a voice and yet he screamed

for the second time, doctors cracked open his ribs not to discover but this time to repair. a jigsaw puzzle and the world's worst game of operation all in one more miracle

when all was said and done, organs scraped up and repositioned, nerves and muscles reattached, talia almost considered risking it all a second time to throw the poor lad in again, but the risk wouldn't be worth it, the hard part was already done

the lazarus pit doesn't leave scars, jason todd has a scar, something he assumes is a fluke, something he desperately hopes was a fluke, something talia will let him think was a fluke

the truth is not a kind or soft thing, it is altogether much better for him to forget

who in their right mind wants to remember when their "heart in their stomach" was anything other than figurative
