You know, I think if I was obscenely wealthy what I'd do is commission artists to make a piece of their own choosing and then give it away to some poor broke sod for free/open up a commission slot where I paid but someone that normally couldn't afford it got the commission
Basically, my house would fill up at some point, you know... and I gotta pace myself, so I'd really have to say sometimes "your art is great... but I don't think it's what I personally am looking for in my house specifically"
So instead I could make it so that people who can't normally afford art could get a piece (I've been there plenty)
If I had the money to do it, it would be a win win win. An artist would get money and get to create, I'd get to see a picture of their work, and someone who didn't have the money to buy art would get art which is very important to me
#with my woodworking and stuff I'm always kinda thinking in the back of my head if I can't find ways where if I ever start selling#I can make it so that totally broke fucks can afford it; cause I get being there#payment plan... something... I don't know#it's just; no offense if you've got dosh; but I kinda don't want my art to go to the rich#I'd kinda rather have it go to people who can't pay me for it but really like it... that's my ideal person to create for#part of why I have a rule that if I do manage to teach out of my basement I'm gonna be like#'now; if you ask me to make that for you; I'll have to charge you cause that's a lot of time'#'but if you want me to teach you how to make that yourself I'll do that for free'#cause man... I just wish I had someone teaching me all the things I want to learn; and I ain't got money to hire a tutor for it all#so like... gladly accept tips if people wanted to give them; I'll never be too proud to take money#but I'm not fucking charging to teach#not that people are wrong to do that#it's just... for me; it's important; it's personal; it's making sure money doesn't stop someone from learning from me#(if I ever have anything worth teaching)#cause fuck do I wish I'd ran in to someone like that

Title of the Past
Zaros Atha'lin x Earis
The rays of the sun lit the library cool and warm, two people breathing steadily, and the sound of pages getting flipped and writing sounds were the only things that could be heard inside the room, both Zaros and the Earis are content with each other's presence not minding the lingering silence
"Should I just give up the Throne?" the Earis asked, breaking the comforting silence between the two. Zaros' eyes widened clearly taken back by the sudden question though he quickly recomposed himself before answering "I'll probably tease you for giving up the Throne but I know you won't do that my Earis"
the title sounded so bitter as it comes with a horrible past, Earis almost wanted to give up the title, maybe then they'll feel somewhat happy and full of life again. The Earis was bound to the throne, and the invisible chains that pulled Earis back to the Throne when they got a little bit of freedom reminded them why they were alive in the first place.
"How are you so sure about that?" The Earis asked looking at Zaros with a deep curiosity in their eyes. "You said it yourself when we had a debate in the garden that your greatest strength is being tenacious, that you would do anything to claim the Throne, or are you saying you're really not?" he asked clearly teasing the Earis.
The Earis scoffed annoyed by Zaros' teasing "I am. I..know when I need to soften my grip on something I'm not capable of handling it. Zaros' lips curled into a smirk "Are you implying that you can't handle being an Eminence?"
The Earis rolled their eyes at his comment "That's not what I meant. I have my reasons why I can't handle being in this kind of status with you-" The Earis quickly pressed their hands in their mouth to cut themself. Zaros on the other hand noticed the tense cut, Zaros immediately knew what the Earis wanted to say.
"Oh? Did you mean that you can't go against me anymore? are you scared? or did you somehow thought that I'll overpower you at some sort and win? and that you decided to just accept it?.
The Earis let out a big sigh "I didn't mean to say that.", Zaros chuckled clearly not believing the excuse "But it sounds like it? I can't imagine the Royal Earis of the long service Ilves Bloodline are scared of a leech that came from a new noble family line that is hated by other noble families." His voice became louder as he pushed the Earis to their limit.
"It wasn't that Zaros! I was scared because we have a past, a past that still haunts me to this day! every time I see you I think about what we have before and I can't help but miss it! I didn't want this! I never wanted us to be in this kind of relationship where we constantly throw hateful comments at each other but all I can do now is feel guilty for what I did in the past and blame myself for my stupidity and that I didn't believe the person who actually understand and know me more than my mother! I don't want us to be rivals anymore Zaros! I can't take it anymore!
Earis' heavy breaths are the only thing that can be heard after the confession, little sniffle came from the Earis, hinting that they were about to cry, a pool of water in the corner of their eyes threatening to fall down any second
Zaros tried to speak but nothing came out of his mouth when he opened it, he was too stunned at what the Earis just did, confessing everything to him was what he didn't expect.
"If giving up the Throne is the only way to end this then I'll gladly give it up to you."
The Earis said before exiting the library, leaving Zaros alone in a painful silence.
Some of the scenes here I find cringe but yeah..it's messy and bad it's my first time writing actual fanfic so I'll take some tips because I had a fun time writing this at school earlier lol

Was originally going to DM but I saw those were closed, I have a sister/sibling who uses she/they and femme/neutral terms interchangeably. She's been unable to transition where we live because she's a minor but she's turning 17 in a few months so her 18th birthday is coming up. I want to start saving up information and advice and help for her so when she turns 18 I can pass it along: I already plan to take her on a shopping spree trip and I know she's planning on starting hormones, are there any tips or advice you have for her? She doesn't have social media for mental health reasons but they stay inside a lot too (they're a hardcore gamer, like, entering competitions to win cash and winning gamer) so I'm not sure that they're hearing much from trans elders (which is why I'm trying to form an information stash)
I'll offer the same advice I'd give myself if I had a chance to go back and tell this to my then-17 year old self. It'll get a little dark, but it's the single most valuable bit of advice I'd be able to offer that poor, abused transgirl in my own past, and may be the best thing your sibling could hear:
Safety is good, but never sacrifice your mental health for the "safety" of your situation. I made the mistake of "waiting" for everything to be "ready" and everyone to be "okay" with my transition because it was "safe," all the while ignoring my own mental health, which in the long term turned out to be a greater threat to my safety than anything else.
Living your true, honest self for yourself is your greatest safety. You can have a roof over your head, warm and comfortable clothes to wear, and food on your plate, but if the cost of all those is denying who you are, that isn't "safe."
And you'll know it, too. Whether it's a parent you have to keep happy, a spouse you have to convince "it's not actually that big a deal," or an employer that refuses to make the workplace a safe environment for trans and queerfolk, the second they even suspect you're not cis-het like them, they'll have the power to control you and make your life miserable. It will be a slow, creeping control that will have you gaslighting yourself just to try and keep yourself from facing the horrible reality that you were complicit in your own oppression.
If there's a component of your safety that is merely a convenient facade that you know could be the crack in the dam, change it. Sooner than later. 18 years old will mean you're no longer subject to parents who might control you. It means the government can't default back to your parents if someone tries to force something on you.
It means you are now free to do what you need to do for you!
It's big, it's scary, and you will not be prepared. You'll be leaving behind a comfort zone for something so nebulous it will legitimately be your personal Undiscovered Country. But you'll find people there who will gladly mom(affectionate) you to death if you have a cough. You'll find folks who'll dad-joke you into the ground while they help you fix your car. You'll encounter people who will tell you weird-sounding advice like, "Always put your silverware in the dishwasher handle down," and you'll realize it makes sense only after you bite the bullet and try it.
(And things like "the vibe" and "cringe" will sound really stupid the older you get.)
You'll need to learn new ways to ask for help, and you'll need to relearn how to accept it. You'll need to figure out things nobody taught you growing up and it'll make you (possibly unreasonably) angry at your folks for not teaching it to you.
But the single best step of securing your safety for your transition is to transition. Don't wait for permission. Don't wait for people to tell you it's okay. Don't wait for the medical technology to be right or the perfect outfit to come along or the mentor who will make it all easier for you, because it's never easy.
Because here's the secret nobody has told you; nobody ever gets permission to be themselves. It's never okay for you to change the status quo that other people are happily leaving in place. Not only is the "perfect" transition the enemy of just doing the damn transition, but what you think you know about transitioning socially/medically/etc. is barely a drop in the bucket of what is actually known and just done that you'll swear it's some grand conspiracy to keep the knowledge from you. (It is and it isn't. It's called 'comp-het' and 'toxic masculinity' and 'unreasonable societal standards of femininity' and 'the patriarchy' and a whole bunch of other stuff that you don't actually know what it means until you've lived outside of the box that society placed you in, but nobody is 'doing it to you,' any more than they're doing it to everyone around you including themselves.) And the perfect outfit is out of season in a month, and the perfect mentor is also only human and WILL fuck things up.
Whatever it is, whether it's popping the question or transitioning or getting a new job or a new place to live or even just switching from cereal to smoothies for breakfast, just do it. If you know it's going to be good for you and you want to do it "eventually," do it now. Don't wait.
If you need permission, congratulations, you have it. If you need everything to be 'perfect,' congratulations, the most perfect moment is now. Shit's gonna happen anyway, might as well pick the shit that happens instead of letting life pick it for you.
Post-script: You're being incredibly brave. Accept the compliment and one day you'll understand how brave you're being and it will humble you how strong you really are.
(And wear sunscreen. That sounds dumb but you'll thank me later.)

Alright I am super nervous but it'll most likely never be seen by anyone ever but here it goes. Here is the first chapter of a fun thing I'm writing called blood diamonds. Now beware, I am not a professional writer, I am new and I love doing it. I'll gladly and openly accept criticism and advice. I really want to get better and be an author one day!!
Blood diamonds.
Chapter one.
September 25th 1930, 12:28 am.
The rain still fell heavy as Nick exited his Buick. The neon bar sign casted a yellow light onto the sidewalk, the puddle making it reflect. He stepped over the puddle and walked into the bar, the air already thick with smoke and cheap beer. He took of his hat, the velvet damp from the rain. Nick's client told him he had a lead here waiting for him, told to look for a strawberry blonde woman with cyan eyes. As he approached the bar he scanned the room first, a few small groups of people at tables drinking and smoking. A couple cling onto each other at the end of the bar, no strawberry blonde woman.
"What can I get for you?" The bartender asked while she cleaned a whiskey glass.
Nick pulled out his wallet, taking out a five dollar bill setting it on the counter. "Scotch on the rocks." The bartender took the money and began to make the drink. She was nothing too special, her hair was black with thick bouncy curls, Grey eyes and a roundish face, she wasn't too pretty but just enough to flirt men into giving her more money. She set the glass down in front of his hand and walked away from the bar. Nick nursed his drink, trying to seem like that's all he was here for.
"Hah, rotten luck boys."
A heavily accent voice called out from the back of the bar. It peaked Nick's interest, he craned his neck to try and get a look in the back.
"Intrested in the game of poker back there?" The bartender asked in a whisper. Nick turned to face her, he nodded.
"Yeah it might just be my lucky night."
She ran a pale hand through her curls, she opened her mouth to say something before a man slammed his cup down on the counter.
"More whiskey Sky, please I'll tip you more once I win a damn game." The bartender or rather Sky was it just sighed and rolled her eyes.
"Sure John, we already know that damn Nordic woman is unbeatable." She poured more whiskey into his glass. Nick drowned out their talking and made his way to the back of the bar. There at a table sat three men and one woman, this woman had long strawberry blonde hair that had a bunch of small braids and jewelry woven into them. She laughed as she collected her winnings. The men groaned and cursed at their losses. Nick walked up to the table, holding his hat against his chest.
"Alright if I join?"
"If you're willing to bet."
Nick nodded as cyan eyes met his, her lips curling into a small smirk. The three other men got up and walked off, mumbling about cheating and telling Nick good luck. As he sat down the woman shuffled the deck, this gave Nick time to pull out some change from his pocket and set it on the table. She dealt the cards slowly, his hand already not looking too hot. Five of hearts, four of spades and an ace. She dealt one card and Nick followed suit.
"What's a pretty lady doing here in mayflower? And so far from home." Nick asked hoping to break the ice.
The woman eyed him before answering.
"Moved here when I was young and it seems like I'm not going anywhere. What about you? Wolf." She played another card. Nick had to think carefully.
"Born and raised here miss.. I'm sorry I didn't catch your name."
"Skåld, Eivor Skåld." She dropped her deck showing winning numbers. Nick dropped his, showing just his luck. Eivor scowled as she reached for her pocket. Nick put up a hand to stop her, she looked at him in confusion.
"I don't want your money, I want information that you may have." Her eyes looked him over, trying to figure him out.
"What kind of information are you looking for mister.. I'm sorry you didn't tell me your name." Nicks lips tugged upwards a little, he fished into his jacket pocket, pulling out a small card and handing it to her.
"Private detective Nick Valentine." Her accent curled around the syllables in a sharp way. Eivor pocketed the card and returned her gaze to him.
"Something very valuable was stolen from the May's easte and a maid was murdered in cold blood." Nick ran the tip of his finger over the scratched wood of the table. Eivor scoffed and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Think I've got anything to do with that mess?" Nick shook his head while he pulled out and envelope and dropped it onto the table. Eivor hesited before snatching up the envelope and pulling out the money that lay inside.
"I heard you were at the party when it happened. Witnesses say you were quite the shutter bug that night." Her cyan eyes looked over the money before quickly shoving it back inside the envelope. Her long slim fingers fidgted with the corner of the envelope, Nick now noticed how long her nails were, painted a deep cherry red. Eivor gently set the envelope down before speaking gently.
"You want to buy those pictures off me." He nodded.
"Yes I do, and that should be enough to cover it."
"I need to develop them first, then I can give them to you." Nick rose to his feet, Eivor doing the same motion while picking up the envelope.
"Well detective, I have your office address. How about I bring those photos over tomorrow morning." Eivor held out her slender pale hand, Nick took it and they both shook on it. He watched as she collected her earlier winnings and shoved it all into a velvet coin purse. She walked out from around the table and towards the front of the bar, Nick noted that she was tall for a woman, slightly wide hips and a fuller body. Definitely Nordic. Mayflower has always been very diverse in its population but the Nordics were rare, not a lot of them like leaving their cold homelands for a floating island. Nick shook his head and made his way back up to the bar, he grabbed his Scotch and looked it over, he decided he no longer wanted it. Pulling out three dollars he set it under the glass and took his leave. He was thankful for fresh air once he stepped outside. The rain had slowed to a drizzle and no traffic lined the streets. But people did line the sidewalks, he was downtown and that usually meant more bad people and crime were active. He hoped Eivor didn't live down here, Nick slid behind the wheel of his car and began the lackluster drive home. Nick always wondered if what he did mattered, taking small cases like for instance helping an old woman get her rights back to her dead husband's home, or getting back a mother's stolen car. The M.F.PD didn't do much these days or even seemed to care about its own citizens. He focused on the painted white line on the road, while his mind wandered farther then it needed to. He pulled up to the apartment complex, lucky enough only a couple of people lived here. He parked into one of the small garages that lived under his apartment. As he ascend the stairs he heard an argument between a young couple who moved here not too long ago. Trouble in paradise, Nick thought as he unlocked the rickety wooden door. His apartment stood dark and silent, the air rather stale and stuffy. It was late and Nick was tired. He turned on the small table lamp that sat by his couch and opened up the window. The cold night air washed in bringing in the fresh smell of rain, he retired to his small bedroom and took the time to remove his suit. As he laid down he hoped Eivor's photographs gave him more to grab onto and work with.

The Pool
*Taking a deep breath*
Well well well, this is my first fanfic (or should I say second or third? Btw, this one came to a conclusion) and I've never been much into writing, but Duskwood and all of you fantastic people in the fandom here brought me to this. I hope you like it, and of course I look forward to your comments and feedback.
Pairing: Jake x MC
Contents: Angst, Sadness, Fluff, Romance
It had been three months since his last contact with her. He'd had to disappear from the radar, the government breathing down his neck. Every day he fought the urge to write to her; he couldn't risk putting her in danger. He couldn't even risk reading her conversations at the moment, so he was as blind as she was.
He didn't know where she was, if she was okay, if she was mad at him, though after all this time he imagined she was. The last time they had written to each other she was in Duskwood and he had every intention of finally catching up with her. Things hadn't gone as planned unfortunately, and the deal he was trying to make with the government had fallen through, forcing him to become a fugitive again.
He was exhausted, he was free and yet he felt imprisoned in an endless loop. Ever since he had met her he had realized how heavy his condition was to bear, how much he missed talking to someone in person, how much he longed to get out without having to disguise himself. He wanted to move, to run, to be outside, and above all else he wanted to run to her, and hold her, look into her eyes, tell her in his voice how much he missed her.
While he was lost in these thoughts he scrolled through their last conversations, rereading every word and every comma. At one point he found the conversation in which they had talked about one of MC's great passions, swimming. He barely knew how to float, he had never had a chance to learn it as a child, and on that occasion he had promised himself he would try it someday. MC had told him about a public pool in her hometown that was easy to get into at night through a gate with a broken lock. She had gone there many times, when she needed to relieve her nerves and to be alone. Suddenly Jake felt the urge to see that pool, and set about finding it. Amazingly it was a couple of blocks from where he was hiding, the next step was to check the security cams near the building and along the way. He could do it without too much difficulty, and he really needed to get some air and some purpose, so he slipped on his sweatshirt, pulled on his hood and mask, and set off.
He arrived within minutes, constantly looking around. The streets were practically empty, but caution was never too much. The pool was a low building, all on one level. Mentally following MC's directions he managed to find the little gate, behind some bushes. It was still broken, unbelievable. Curiosity was stronger than him and he continued towards the entrance. His footsteps echoed in the hall, as he went down the few steps that led directly to the pool floor, the smell of chlorine filled his nostrils. Even though it was night he could see almost all of the interior well, thanks to the huge windows that almost reached the ceiling and let in the illumination of the street lamps, just as MC had told him.
He sat on the steps and stayed there for a while, lost in his imagination, even though he had never seen MC, enjoying that moment of peace, and trying to imagine her doing something that made her feel good...
A noise outside startled him, he ran off the steps and flattened himself against the wall. He waited in silence, his nerves on edge, his heart in his throat, his eye searching for possible alternatives escape routes. another metallic noise, and the angry meows of two cats fighting each other. Jake breathed a sigh of relief but waited vigilantly for a while longer before heading for the exit with shaking legs. When he returned to his shelter, he promised himself he would never try it again, but that was not to be. He returned there two more nights, until he decided to get a swimsuit and try swimming.
And so Jake found himself inside the pool, scared and unsure at first, but after a few minutes he began to feel the benefit of being in the water, the lightness provided by its support. He knew it wouldn't last long, but he continued to go there as many nights as he could. He would return to his hut tired but satisfied, and he could even get a decent night's sleep.
One evening he was trying to swim as usual when he heard a female voice saying jokingly, "well, I thought I was the only one who knew this place, but apparently not." Jake froze, almost having a heart attack. He was in the water, there was no way to escape. He drew a deep breath, thinking that it was anyway dark enough, and that his features weren't clearly visible, and decided to try not to look too suspicious. "Yeah, apparently not" he replied, trying to keep his voice from shaking. The girl smiled, or so it seemed to him, and continued, "I guess you like to be here alone, just like I usually do, but I could really use a swim tonight. I'll go in the back lane, I swear I won't bother you. Is that okay?" "O-oh yeah, yeah, go ahead," Jake mumbled, trying to hide his face as much as possible, and stood watching her as she made her way to the other side of the pool, still shocked that there was another human being in the same room as him. He realized that he was staring in her direction, and decided to start swimming again. After a while he stopped, out of breath and with tired arms, and saw that the girl instead was still swimming, at a brisk pace, and giving no sign of wanting to stop. He got out of the water and sat on the steps, wrapped in his towel, trying to catch his breath. Watching her was hypnotic, she moved with fluid movements, slow and steady. He wondered if MC swam like that too. How he wished he could have written to her to tell her he was swimming, or at least trying to, and to thank her for letting him discover this wonderful new experience as well. Since he had met her, his life had taken on a new light, where before only greyness and despair reigned.
His phone made a sound, bringing him back to reality. It was time to go home. He dressed quickly and headed for the exit, he didn't want to interrupt the girl's concentration, and he didn't intend to introduce himself, so better that way. Once back at the shelter he went back to work on his laptop, while eating a sandwich. Concentration continued to leave him that night, however, as the encounter with the stranger had brought him back to MC in a big way.
He returned to the pool the next evening, yearning to tire himself out and find some peace of mind. Once he got to the door he heard the sound of water coming from inside, he carefully pushed his way across the threshold, trying to figure out who was there and was relieved to see that it was again the girl he met the night before. He walked over to his side of the pool and removed his clothes as he cast furtive glances at her. He dove into the water and began to swim, trying to focus on his breathing, which was the part he struggled with the most. When he emerged with bated breath, he saw the girl standing at the edge of the pool and winced. "Hi, I didn't mean to scare you. I've been watching you swim and I thought I could give you a few tips, if you don't mind" Jake was so amazed and scared that for a few seconds he could only stare at her with his mouth open. "I-I...I don't.... " she giggled softly and shrugged her shoulders "Ok, look, I didn't mean to embarrass you...I'm going back to my lane. If you want it you know you can ask it okay?" And she turned to go back to her lane. "Wait. Yes, please I will gladly accept your help." Jake said. She retraced her steps and squatted down beside the edge of the pool with a smile on her face. "So, first let's start with your upper body, I've noticed that you move it a lot between strokes and that wastes your energy and breath. Try to stand up straighter, your arms and legs do most of the work. Then, every time you pull your arm forward, you can inhale if you feel the need to, and slowly you'll find yourself pulling two strokes, then three, and so on, but don't be in a hurry. If you take care of your technique well, managing your breath will already be easier." Jake was focused on her words and nodded, before turning around and trying again. Following her advice actually felt like he was already doing better. A wave of satisfaction ran through him when he managed to do his usual laps without getting breathless. He emerged smiling and sat on the edge of the pool. She was still there and looked at him approvingly, then asked "Better now, isn't it? "Yes, thank you very much." He answered. "Thanks to you, I'm just back in town but I'm not having much contact with the rest of the world, helping you was a pleasure" "I... I understand, I didn't have much contact lately either". A slightly embarrassed silence fell between them. It was Jake's phone that broke it, by emitting an alarm tone. Jake got up quickly and headed for his bagpack. "I, uh, have to go now, thanks again for your help." She looked at him briefly, nodded, and stepped back. "Oh, yeah, sure, no problem. Well, good night then" and walked back to the pool. "Good night" he replied, and as soon as she turned around, he changed his wet swimsuit with dry clothes and headed quickly to the exit.
As he walked down the street, he wondered if he wasn't risking too much by going to the pool regularly, and by confiding in that unknown girl. He then decided that it would be better to avoid it for a while, even if it was with great regret.
Jake avoided the pool for a few days, but eventually decided to go back. He couldn't wait to get there. As he walked the short distance between his hiding place and the pool, he mentally savored the feel of the water, the smell of the chlorine, the relaxation it gave him to swim until his muscles ached. As always, he sneaked up on the hidden entrance, his senses all out to catch any suspicious movements or noises. That evening, however, he heard no suspicious noises as he entered the large room with the tanks, but a soft sobbing. He listened for a while, trying to distinguish where the crying was coming from. When he spotted the silhouette of the mysterious girl on the steps he felt a tug at his heart, and could not help but go near her.
"Hey, is everything okay?" he said softly.
She looked up with a jolt, and when she recognized him she answered a little annoyed: "What do you think? No, everything is not okay." She immediately realized she had been abrupt, and added in a tone of apology, clutching her knees to her chest: "Sorry, I didn't think you would come, I haven't seen you here in a while and you caught me off guard..." "It's okay, no need to apologize. I guess I interrupted an intimate moment of yours. It's just that hearing you cry made me worried somehow." He replied to her as he blushed, realizing what he had just said. "I-I meant...well I mean, sorry if I m-maybe I embarrassed you, I should probably go and..." hinting back. "No, wait. Please stay. If it's not a problem for you of course. I don't really feel like being alone anymore." she said as she reached out a hand towards him and motioned for him to sit beside her. Jake was tense, the last thing he had expected that night was to find himself consoling the mysterious girl, but he certainly couldn't leave her there alone, she had always been very kind to him and he was sincerely sorry to see her sad. He exhaled a deep breath and went to sit next to her as he pulled a handkerchief from a pocket of his backpack and handed it to her. "Thank you," she said with a smile, "I really appreciate it." For a while an awkward silence descended, during which they both stared at their hands. Suddenly she blurted out "You know, I'm worried about someone, that's why I was crying. I haven't heard from him in a while and I don't know what to think. I'm trying to move on, I promised him, and really, I'm trying so hard, but some days the weight of his absence is so hard to bear that I can barely get out of bed. Whatever I do the thought of him is with me. This is the only place I can find some peace, because swimming empties my mind b-but t-tonight..." her eyes glazed over again as she swallowed, trying to push back the tears. He had listened to her in silence until that moment, respecting her moment of venting, but when he realized she was about to cry again he felt he had to do something, so he passed his left arm behind her back and pulled her to him, gently holding her in an embrace. "I-I can understand it, you know? I promised one person I would move on too. But it's so hard. I want to call her, I want to write her, I want to know how she is doing, where she is...but every day I forbid myself to do that. And I know I owe it to her, because she doesn't deserve to keep feeling bad because of me and my mistakes and..." his voice faded away, as he realized that he was risking to say things he shouldn't have said, he recovered quickly trying to cut it short and not to let the tremor in his voice be heard "...and I understand you, that's it. I miss her so much too."
As they stood in silence, his heart running fast in his chest and he desperately looking for something else to say, he felt her draw back into his embrace and sigh. It felt good to have her in his arms, and feeling her calming down warmed his heart. It had been so long since Jake had touched anyone, not really talked to anyone, hardly remembered what it was like. A little later she said softly, "Thank you. For sharing a little piece of you with me. You don't need to talk about it if you don't feel like it, I understand. It's... " she stopped thoughtfully, "Complicated" finished Jake. "Yes, yes exactly! It's damn complicated. But knowing that someone can understand me makes me feel better." then she turned to him and drew a deep breath, then added, "Well, how about a swim? After all, this is what we both came for." Jake nodded and removed his arm from her shoulders. "Yeah, I guess you're right." He got up from the steps and walked over to the usual little corner where he used to change his clothes, while she headed to her pool lane and dove in. Once he slipped into his swimsuit, Jake entered cautiously, still pensive from that brief but intense exchange of confessions.
He slowly dived down to the bottom and stayed there for a while, still immersed in his thoughts. He had to stop those nightly outings. They were already dangerous in themselves, and now this unknown girl had been added, making him talk too freely. All of his inner alarms were telling him it was time to stop, and it was also time to change hiding places again, even though being so close to a place in MC's heart made him feel closer to her.
A movement to the side of his field of vision brought him out of his thoughts, and out of the pool as well. When he got to his feet he ran a hand over his eyes and pulled his hair back so he could see better, turning to face the source of the movement. He saw her in the aisle next to where he stood, staring at him. "A-are you ok?" said him in an uncertain voice. She giggled and replied, "I was going to ask you the same thing, you weren't coming up out of the water anymore." "Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry I scared you, I was just... well, reflecting." he replied. She stared at him intently, looking at his black hair, stuck to the sides of his face, and said tilting her head "It's weird you know? You remind me so much of him, the way you behave somehow, I can't actually explain it". Jake blushed and swallowed hard. "I'll take it as a compliment" he replied, and stepped out of the water. "I have to get back. I hope you feel better now." continued, while heading to the bag of dry clothes. She stood staring at him, wondering if she had made him uncomfortable with that confession. When she realised he was about to undress she turned around, blushing. She waited for a while and then sat down on the edge of the bath and said with a smile, "Yes, I'm feeling better, thanks to you. Good night, stranger."
When he arrived to the hut, something alarmed him: some of the boards near the entrance were placed differently than he had left them. He quickly stepped into the shadows and took out his phone to check inside. Two men were sitting at his usual spot, peering at the screens. Jake was quick to slip back downstairs and to reach out his hiding place number two, three doors down. As soon as he was seated, he took his phone out of his jeans pocket and started the hidden cameras. The two men didn't seem to have any idea what they were looking at, and they didn't look like officers either, to be honest. Maybe two thieves? But what kind of thieves would break into an old warehouse with the windows covered by boards? What did they expect to find there? He carefully examined the video images from the cameras he had placed around the rest of the perimeter of the building and saw a couple of policemen in the back. "Fuck!" he whispered through his teeth. He prepared to format everything in the hiding place and stood vigilantly by, watching them alternately. The two intruders were probably hiding from the cops, and risked exposing him. He noticed that there was a car shop next door and decided to create a diversion. He quickly managed to hack into the shop's security system and set it to go off, so that the cops could be sent away. He then logged on to his workstation and simply brought up Nymos, some glitches and the words "intruders detected, defensive protocol activated" on the screens. It was more than enough to send the two of them running for the hills.
He sighed with relief, letting himself down on the makeshift mattress behind him. He stayed like that for a while as he listened to his heartbeat return to a normal rhythm, his adrenaline slowly subsiding, his breathing becoming regular. His stomach rumbled, so he reached into his bag and pulled out an energy bar. After an hour or so, he locked the entrance to the main hideout and went back the way he'd come: better stay there for the night. As he settled in for the night, streams of thoughts came over him. He realised that the idea of leaving MC hometown made him feel lost, even though she wasn't there, and it wasn't even certain that she would return. Still, he knew he had to leave, that evening's mishap was another proof of that. There wasn't much to think about really, he had to move again, maybe he'd come back later. He thought of the girl at the pool, of her pain, so familiar. How was it possible that love could always bring so much suffering? He drifted off to sleep with those thoughts in his head, and woke up restless.
The next morning Jake was almost done packing up all of his belongings and ready to go. He wondered if once he was settled into his new hiding place, he would find another pool where he could train undisturbed, so he set about identifying all the potential candidates. How he wished he could have told MC about this! As he scanned the pools and studied their surroundings it occurred to him that he could write her using a disposable phone before leaving. His hands began to shake at the mere thought of being able to write her again. Would she be happy to read it? Maybe she was angry with him. In their last conversation she had told him to at least let her know if he was alive as soon as he could. Before he could think about it too much longer, he stormed out of the room and headed for the first open store. Once he retrieved the disposable phone he went back to the spare hut and slipped into it with all his things. He turned on the phone and prepared it for use.
*??? is online*
Jake:Hello, MC.
Shortly after came the reply
*** MC is online ***
MC:Jake! Are you okay?
Jake:Yes MC, I'm fine. I apologize for not letting you hear from me again, it was too dangerous.
MC:That's okay, I'm so glad to read you now, I kept telling myself that you were definitely fine and that I shouldn't have written you, as promised
Jake felt his palms sweat.
Jake:You know, I've been going swimming lately. At night, on the sly. Your enthusiasm about it convinced me. You were so right MC, it can empty your mind. I wanted so hard to thank you for that.
MC:I went swimming recently too, at night, it kept me from going crazy. Maybe we swam at the same time
Jake: :)
Jake:And do you know where I was? The place you told me about. It was like I felt closer to you
MC squinted her eyes
MC:Jake... you don't mean that place with big windows almost to the ceiling,do you?
Jake:Yes, exactly that.
MC bursted in laugh and shaked her head in disbelief.
MC:And you didn't happen to meet someone? Like a really nice, kind girl who gave you lessons?
Jake felt his knees buckle and had to lean against the wall to keep from falling.
Jake:You...
Jake:Was that you?
Butterflies were spreading through his stomach.
MC:So you hugged me the other night! I was crying just for you, and you were there, this is crazy!
MC:Where are you now?
His eyes widened.
Jake:MC me, I was going to leave the town, last night I found intruders in my shelter, it's not safe for me to be here anymore.
For a time that seemed eternal to him there was no sign of life on the other end of the phone.
Jake:MC...
MC:Don't you dare
MC:Don't you dare leaving again. You've been staying here for days, and even allowed yourself to go out almost every night, and you never wrote me anything. Now that we might meet you're starting this again.
MC:We met by accident Jake! Does that seem normal to you???
MC:I'll be waiting there tonight, you better come
***MC is offline***
Jake stared at the phone bewildered. He was terrified. He couldn't believe he had hugged MC the night before. And she was crying, because of him. She was right, he couldn't leave again.
That night he went to the pool, almost running. He sneaked up on the hidden entrance, holding his breath, and went to sit on the steps where he usually rested his backpack. A short time later he saw her walk in and head towards him. It seemed to him that his heart was about to explode. He stood up and walked over to her. They both found themselves running to cover the final distance that separated them. They hugged each other tightly, and stayed that way, without speaking for who knows how long. Neither of them wanted to untie the embrace, as if to do so meant to lose themselves again.
At the end MC pulled back a little to look him in the eyes, and said, "I was beginning to think this moment would never come" "And instead we found each other without even knowing it" he replied chuckling. She blushed and rose on tiptoe to give him a light kiss on the lips.
"Shall we go for a swim?" she told him with a mischievous grin. "Sure. I've been taking lessons" he replied as he began to undress.

------------
Seohyun kicked a pebble with her boot, sending it flying in the air. The black cat following Seohyun meowed as it wandered between her legs, rubbing itself along her naked legs. Seohyun kicked another pebble, and the cat meowed louder.
"I know, I know," she said, sighing, "I shouldn't have helped him."
The cat's grey eyes twinkled and it jumped a little to keep pace with Seohyun. She adjusted her sunglasses with the tip of her finger and tucked her long hair behind her ears, keeping her eyes fixed to the ground in hopes of finding more pebbles that she could kick.
Seohyun's hands went to the straps of her school bag on her shoulders as she finally found one, and she smirked. "Hey kitty, I'm gonna kick this one real hard."
As if the cat understood, it sat near her to watch the scene. Seohyun aimed her foot, sending the pebble flying with full force as a short laugh escaped her. She waited for the satisfying sound of the pebble hitting something hard, but a wail of pain answered her instead.
"Oops," Seohyun grimaced as she motioned the cat to follow her, trying to flee before she was caught. However, luck was rarely on her side.
"It was you, right?" She heard a boyish voice call out. She sneaked a peek, seeing a group of colourful heads belonging to boys that grew larger and larger as more joined them.
"I thought I hit one? Why are there so many..." she muttered, then turned back, bowing her head in a quick apology and turning again to run away, almost tripping on the cat and it howled in pain before following her.
"Hey, stop!" She heard voices, and she just sped up. She had enough to worry about.
"Where are my ghost friends when I need them.." Seohyun muttered under her breath as she sped up, cursing mentally. She could hear steps draw closer by every second, and she finally turned abruptly, making the group of boys stop dead in their tracks, bumping at each other.
"I apologized, what do you all want now?"
"You never apologized," the blue haired one said.
"Why do you think I bowed? To thank you?" Seohyun retorted. The blonde snickered, earning a kick in his ribs from not one but two of them.
"We couldn't see from so far, at least apologize properly!"
"Alright, alright. Was it you who got hit?"
"No, it was-"
Seohyun sighed out loud. "What got you so worked up then, if it wasn't even you?"
"He's my friend?" The blue haired boy said, making it sound more like a question.
"I told you all not to make a fuss, it's not like she did it on purpose," Seohyun heard one of them say, and her eyes shifted towards the boy with black hair, the eyebrow slit further defining his sharp features. Indeed, he was hurt. There was a painful scratch where the pebble must have grazed his cheekbone.
"Ah, so it was you..." Seohyun bit her lip. She thought she should apologize properly, so she bowed properly this time, and got up. "I never meant to hurt anyone. I'm sorry."
His eyes burned holes in her even though she wore sunglasses. He pursed his lips, nodding. "It's okay, just be careful next time."
She nodded. "Can I go now?" She didn't wait for an answer and turned, motioning the cat to come along, who meowed.
"Wait!" The eyebrow-slit boy sat down on one knee, motioning the cat to come to him, who gladly obliged and Seohyun rolled her eyes. He smiled at the cat, rubbing its head and offering it a biscuit, which the cat graciously accepted, munching right into it.
"Do you even give your cat food? It's so thin."
"It's not mine," Seohyun said and the boy's head turned up to look at her, curiosity in his eyes obvious. "It followed you rather gladly."
Seohyun just shrugged, looking away from his gaze and observing the group now. They were all dressed in school uniform like her, but it looked like it was a different school. She internally smiled at the interesting mix that stood in front of her.
"San, let's go," she heard the red-head call out. San, she thought.
"I need to go now too." Seohyun said, waiting for the boy to stop playing with the cat.
The boy- San- got up and said, "You said it's not yours. Can I take it then?"
Seohyun almost said yes, but hesitated. It was true the cat was not hers, but at this point, she could call it hers, the way it always followed her around whenever she was out. She had rather grown attached to the constant presence of her black furry friend.
"Uhh, I mean you could, but..." she bit her lip as she looked back as if for help, and then turned back to the boy. "This cat is my only friend."
Seohyun hated how it had almost come as a whisper, but the boy looked like he understood as he nodded, taking a step back. "I'll see you around then," he smiled sweetly at the cat, who meowed at him.
Seohyun finally turned, not bothering to check if the cat followed her or that boy, San. She was too scared to check. But when she heard the cat meow and rub at her legs, she smiled in relief.
"I'll feed you more now, I promise," she smiled at the cat.
Meanwhile, San watched the odd pair walk away in the distance.
"So rude!" the blue haired boy said, and everyone laughed. San turned and shook his head. "Not my fault you decided to act like my parent, Hongjoong."
"Doesn't look like she's from our school, but isn't it the school near the place we usually go to eat dinner?" The blonde asked.
"Yeah, it looks like it. You're treating us to dinner there tomorrow. You remember, right Yeosang?"
"You're always hungry for food Wooyoung, how could I forget?" He answered.
The group started to walk their way, talking about their plans for dinner, but San couldn't stop thinking about the girl with the grey streaks in her hair, the girl who had no friends other than a black cat. He unconsciously shook his head, finally paying attention to his present.
----------
"I said I'm sorry!" Seohyun yelled, "Now you leave my hair, and I'll leave yours."
"You first," the woman replied.
"Together, okay? One, two, three- YOU! You lied!"
"You lied too!" The woman shouted, and pulled at Seohyun's hair, earning a satisfactory groan from her.
"It's not like you can feel pain! You're a freaking ghost!"
"Doesn't mean I'm not insulted," the woman smirked, "Alright, I'll leave you first, and you leave no more than a second after, otherwise I'll make sure you feel the pain you love." The woman let go of Seohyun's hair and Seohyun did so right after, taking quick steps backward as she massaged her head.
"Bitch..." she muttered, and the woman laughed out loud.
The woman- ghost- had been keeping Seohyun company for about two months now, occasionally popping out of nowhere and leaving just as abruptly. At first, Seohyun had tried to help her in some way, help her move on and come to terms with her sudden death by accident, but the young woman had quite a difficult death and she was the first of a kind- a ghost with amnesia. No memories of how she had died and why she hadn't moved on.
Seohyun had to admit that she had grown used to her presence. She often found herself narrating her uneventful day to her, just like today, when she had excessively complained how useless of a friend she was and how none of her ghost friends had ever done her a favour. Somehow that had turned into an argument and then to them resorting to pulling each other's hair our, except her ghost friend couldn't feel any pain since she was, well, a ghost. Dead.
"I mean," Seohyun continued, fiddling with her hair, "it would have saved me from embarrassment had you popped up and helped me out there."
"What could I have done?" The woman sat down on the pavement, the black cat gladly jumping on her lap as the woman ran her hands through her fur. "It's not like anyone else can see me."
"Hello? You could have made me disappear."
"You know it's not good for your health. Why do it unless absolutely, absolutely necessary?" The woman glared at her.
"YES! That was absolutely, absolutely necessary. There were 8 of them! I was alone!" Seohyun whined and the woman just ignored her.
"Unnie~" Seohyun sat down near her, and the woman slid away from her.
"I told you not to call me that. I have a name, and it's Jiwoo."
"How can I call you by your name? You're much older than me." Seohyun grinned.
"And that's why I don't help you. Because you're a stubborn one. Also, I'm pretty sure I'm not that old."
"That's rich coming from you," Seohyun retorted, ignoring the last remark, "I'm not the one refusing to move on just because I can't get enough of worldly pleasures."
"And that's my cue to leave you alone, like you always are. There's a reason you don't have friends, Seohyun." Jiwoo got up, putting the curled cat on the pavement.
"I do have friends-"
"I'm talking about human friends. Your sharp tongue and stubborn heart, it's about time you change that."
"I-" Before Seohyun could complete, Jiwoo disappeared. Seohyun sighed, her heart sinking a bit at her harsh but true words.
There was indeed a reason that she had no friends. And it wasn't her ability to see ghosts.
Seohyun pulled her knees to her chest, shutting her eyes. She wanted to disappear.
--------------
Senior year of high school was supposed to be tough, yes, but Seohyun had to face challenges other than academic ones.
And it wasn't just the fact that she had no social life at all; she only had a group of people she could interact with if need be, otherwise she was perfectly content on being on her own. She had no problem staying amused in her own company.
The problem was with Seohyun, though not directly. It was the problem that she could see and interact with some of the dead. And the dead made sure she got in trouble if she didn't hear their woes and skipped school to maybe find them something (or someone) they had an attachment to, or didn't take them to their loved ones immediately.
She had often tried to reason with them; she tried to explain that she was perfectly aware how bad they must have it, but she had it worse since she was still alive, and with life came unforeseen consequences, such as having to face her mother if they caused a scene (which they usually did), or if they tried to grab her attention by any means necessary, such as causing her desk to fall, her stuff to fly (where she would immediately have to either hold it or pretend to have thrown it).
She tried, oh she tried so hard to tell them to wait until she was free from school and then she would do whatever they asked her to, but no. Apparently whatever they wanted to do was more important than her school, her reputation (already in ruins), everything. There rarely was someone patient enough, and those she made sure she looked after properly. Like Jiwoo.
She wished Jiwoo was here so she could get rid of the old wrinkly man in front of her. She was trying to focus on her mathematics but it was hard to when a fat belly blocked her vision. And she couldn't even say anything out loud, so she just sent daggers through her eyes, the message in her eyes clear. But the old man just smirked, continuing to block her vision.
Seohyun sighed and turned the page of her notebook, scribbling in it, then turned the notebook to the ghost in front of her. The man was short so he didn't have to bend as he read what she had written.
"IF YOU COULD STOP PESTERING ME FOR A FEW MINUTES YOU WRINKLY OLD MAN I CAN'T FOCUS ON MATHS BECAUSE OF YOU"
The old man smirked, and Seohyun wished she could kick him somewhere he would surely feel pain even though ghosts couldn't feel pain. She was so absorbed in thinking of ways that she could make this ghost feel pain that she didn't notice him take her notebook and run away before she could snatch it back.
As soon as Seohyun noticed, she jerked in her seat, stopping herself from getting up and following him. He stopped a few feet away, teasingly coming closer and closer, the frown on Seohyun's face getting deeper and deeper until he stopped near the girl sitting in front of her, tore a page from her notebook and gave it back.
And then he did what she dreaded. He made a ball out of that paper, aimed at the teacher, taking one last look at the very satisfying horrified face of the girl who could see ghosts but refused to help them, and threw the paper ball at the teacher with considerable force, hitting him on his head.
The teacher turned, running his eyes across the classroom, not missing how everyone was glancing between the teacher and Seohyun, who folded her arms rather defensively, silently praying he wouldn't actually pick the paper ball. But the teacher bent down, and it so happened that he was also old, and a bit wrinkly, so when he read the scribbled message, his face went red.
"Who was it?!" The teacher pushed his glasses up his nose-bridge and watched as the students hesitantly pointed to Seohyun, who sank deeper into her chair, as if somehow a pit would open and swallow her.
"You meet me in my office after class." The teacher shook his head in disappointment and continued where he left.
Seohyun was given a warning, and it was her second. She had only one left before she would be kicked out of school (if something big happened, which usually did if she waited for the third warning) so she decided it was time for her to move on again.
And this time she dreaded. It was always a hassle to explain to her mom what had happened. Her mom knew she could see ghosts and when she was little, she had tried all sorts of methods, of almost all religions she could think of, hoping her only daughter would turn out normal, but she had failed. But now she liked to pretend that she had forgotten all about it, and when Seohyun told her she had gotten into trouble, she would silently nod and get her to change schools before something big happened and it got written in her school record.
So a few attempts from the old ghost trying to get her in trouble and a few days later, Seohyun was finally free of struggling. She changed schools. And tomorrow would be her first day, hopefully the last time she had to change schools before her senior year ended. Before high school ended.
Seohyun was still dressed in her old school's uniform when she went to her new school to submit her files and make sure everything was good before her first day. She had her baseball cap on this time, making sure she would hide most of her face since a lot of people would be staring at her. It was normal to stare when someone from another school came.
The black cat found her once again, following her as she walked to the building. Seohyun motioned the cat to stay and it obeyed, watching the girl walk into the building.
From a distance, San and his friends were watching the whole scene. They had recognized the girl not by her face, which was half-hidden anyway, but her cat and the grey streaks in her hair.
"Let's hope she doesn't attack you with a pebble again," Yunho snickered, and San smiled, his hand unconsciously going to the now faint scratch on his face.
"I'm not going to your rescue if that happens," Hongjoong said and Seonghwa chimed in, "Neither will I."
"I never asked you anyway..." San trailed off.
"The cat looks like it wants to escape," Jongho pointed his finger at the hoard of girls that gathered around the poor cat. "Poor cat."
"San, you should go bring the cat. It would recognize you," Mingi suggested and San considered. The cat was worth saving.
A few moments later, San was back with the cat in his arms. The cat did recognize him. He bought the cat to the boys, who lightly patted her one by one, taking turns so she wouldn't feel scared.
After about five minutes, the boys heard someone clear their throat right behind them. They turned to see it was that girl.
"Aren't you the same group from that day?" Seohyun wondered out loud.
"The cat was scared because people were gathering around her, so we brought her here," Yeosang said.
"That's... kind of you," Seohyun met eyes with each of them, and the boys got a proper look at her face for the first time without her glasses. She had light eyes. The shadows beneath her eyes were dark, which contrasted with her eyes rather strikingly.
"What were you doing here? You're not from our school," Wooyoung commented.
"Oh, I'll be joining from tomorrow..." Seohyun realized somehow she's ended up in the same school as the boys. "What class are you in?"
"Senior year, all of us," Wooyoung replied, and they didn't miss her groan.
"I'm guessing you're senior year too," Seonghwa asked, earning a nod of confirmation.
"How ironic. What if you end up in our class?" Yeosang wondered.
"God forbid," Seohyun shook her head, making them smile despite her remark. "Now, should I leave the cat here, or..."
"Does it have a name?" San asked, rubbing under the cat's chin.
"Uh, no actually," Seohyun faltered when she saw San give her a disappointed look, "I just call her kitty. You can give it a name if you want to."
"I'll think about it," San shifted his arms to hand the cat over to Seohyun, and she took it, placing the cat on her shoulders, waiting until she sat around her neck like she usually did.
"I guess I'll go now," she met eyes with San for the last time, noticing the mole on his eyelid. San nodded, and she muttered an awkward bye before walking past them, cursing at herself mentally for being so awkward with them.
"It's you who got me in trouble, you dumb cat," she muttered under her breath. The cat didn't even bother reply.
The boys watched her leave, and Yeosang finally spoke, "I have a feeling she'll be in our class now. Oh, how the tables have turned."
"Interesting," Jongho smiled, "Does San have a new friend now?"
"The cat? Sure." San smirked.
"Ah, let's see how that changes," Jongho retorted, smirking back.
---------------
Seohyun tried to calm her nerves as she looked at herself in the mirror of the girls' toilet in her new school.
The nerves always got the better of her whenever it was her first day at a school. It usually took her about three days to get comfortable with a new environment. Seohyun sighed as she wiped her sweaty palms on her black skirt, staring at her light brown eyes. She wished she could cover them with her sunglasses so she could avoid the excessive eye contact with humans and ghosts. Sadly, she couldn't do that in class.
She finally took a deep breath and somehow managed to make herself walk to the office, where she met her homeroom teacher, a middle-aged woman. She walked along with her to her class, and the teacher smiled warmly at her as she nudged her to come along.
They entered the class and watched as the boys and girls went back to sit at their seats, the room slowly falling silent. The teacher cleared her throat.
"Good morning class, we have a new student today. Please introduce yourself."
Seohyun, who had been looking down the entire time, finally gathered whatever courage she had and ran her eyes along the class as she finally spoke.
"Good morning, I am Lee Seohyun. I hope we can get along well."
"Alright, why don't you find yourself a seat?" The teacher said and Seohyun nodded, looking at the few empty seats and considering her choices.
Her first priority was to sit as far away as possible. Preferably by the window. There was one empty seat in the furthest row, but it was next to the seat by the window already occupied by someone-
It was one of those boys. She only knew San's name for now, and it was the blonde one. She quickly scanned her other options and decided this was the best for now.
As she made her way, she realized the 8 of them were all sitting around the empty seat that she was about to sit on. San was in front of her, the strawberry blonde on her other side, the rest around them too. She wondered if the seat belonged to one of their friends so she quietly asked the blonde, "Is this seat free?"
He shook his head and she internally sighed in relief as she settled herself, focusing on whatever the homeroom teacher said, trying not to stare holes at the back of San's head, until she left a few minutes later and she slumped back in her chair.
San finally turned, raising his brows, "What a coincidence."
Seohyun shrugged, straightening her skirt. "Ironic, really."
"Is there a reason you changed schools?" The blonde turned towards her, resting his head on his hand as he looked at her curiously.
"Uh," Seohyun hesitated as she tried to recall her excuse for every time someone asked her this, "for convenience. It's closer to home."
"That's an interesting reason to change school," he replied, earning a shrug.
"Maybe she doesn't want to tell you why exactly. Am I right?" San locked eyes with her, his smirk growing.
"Maybe," Seohyun teased back.
"How's your cat?" She heard someone call, and she looked at the black haired boy.
"It's not exactly mine, but it's fine. Probably."
"That's... reassuring. I'm Wooyoung by the way. This is Yeosang-" he pointed to the blonde next to her, "San, and that's Yunho next to you."
She looked at Yunho and he waved shyly. "That's Seonghwa," he pointed in front of him, and when Seohyun nodded, he continued, "The blueberry is Hongjoong, the red one is Jongho, and that's Mingi over there."
Seohyun nodded slowly, looking at them all slowly. "Yunho, Seonghwa, Hongjoong blueberry,-"
"I heard that!" Hongjoong shouted, turning around and making a pout at Seonghwa. Ignoring him, she continued, "San, Jongho in the front, then Mingi beside him, Wooyoung and Yeosang. I got it."
"You're quick," Yunho grinned. Seohyun wished she could tell him that it was because of the several hundred ghosts she had met and had promised never to forget their names.
"So the 8 of you are friends?" She asked, and San nodded. "Why was this seat in the middle empty then?"
"Mingi used to sit here but his eyesight got worse so he moved to the front."
"Well, that explains..."
Their teacher walked in, a man in his 30s, and she found out he was to be her math teacher. At least he's not old and wrinkly, she thought as she took out her notebook.
---------
The rest of her day was uneventful, except for the break when the boys asked if she wanted to join them but she didn't. She said she had to go to the office, but that was a lie. She wanted to take a breather.
When they left, she looked again at her options. She was already regretting sitting among the group of friends. She was going to be a disturbance to them, or something even worse. She didn't want them to think she was weird. Not yet.
She surprised herself at the thought. Why did she care? She had never cared before. But she told herself it was probably because she had a few encounters with them before and it would be weirder if they found out now. That she was strange. They'd probably stop talking to her very suddenly. That part always hurt her, which was why she always avoided making friends.
Seohyun shook her head and looked at the empty seat in the middle of the room. The spot was out of question. Being in the middle of the room meant she could be surprised from anywhere by those damned ghosts.
Then there was one in the very front with the wall. She could go there, but...
She felt more comfortable here. The spot was perfect. The problem was the boys. They were in for disappointment.
She saw some girls staring at her. They were probably considering if they should talk and make friends with her. But Seohyun was in no mood for friends, so she just put her head on the desk and closed her eyes.
She almost drifted to sleep when she heard someone put something on her desk. She got up and saw that it was San. "We figured you didn't have time for lunch, so."
Seohyun looked from the bread and juice to San, and back at the food presented to her. "Thank you, that's uh... very kind of you?" She looked at San and Yeosang, and they laughed shamelessly at her.
"You don't sound so happy," Yeosang commented and she shook her head, sipping at the juice to prove her point as she said, "No, actually I'm glad, but it wasn't necessary."
They just shook her head at her, smiling as they absorbed themselves in some discussion. Seohyun silently ate the bread, wishing she could disappear because she didn't even know how to thank people properly.
At that moment, Jiwoo the ghost appeared, and Seohyun muttered, "About freaking time."
Jiwoo laughed and said, "I see you're having a good day."
"And I don't expect you to ruin it, so please live up to my expectations for once," Seohyun hissed, keeping her voice as low as possible, but it still made Seonghwa look at her once before he focused back on his friends.
Seohyun sighed. She couldn't write in her notebook now because they would definitely see it. And she couldn't talk. So she just folded her arms as she slowly sipped on the juice while Jiwoo danced around the classroom.
As soon as the bell rang indicating the end of the day, Seohyun sighed in relief. The day was over without any incident. She slowly packed her bag, thinking about her promise to meet a new ghost after her school. It was a girl about her age, and thankfully she understood what school demanded of her, so she had promised to not disturb her.
"You look ready to go to your bed and fall right asleep," Yeosang commented.
"Tell me about it," Seohyun muttered, wearing her bag and making her way out of the class, the boys not far behind.
San watched Seohyun walk as if she was in a hurry but couldn't care less at the same time. She would speed up, then slow down again, and repeat.
"Are you in a hurry?" Wooyoung asked her, falling in step with her.
"Uh, not really. Just can't wait to get home," she said, but her voice didn't match what she said. She sounded the least excited to do that.
"Long day, huh?" Wooyoung said and she finally passed him a smile. "So you know no one at this school?"
"Well," she said, "I am new."
"Well, you can be our friend. Only if you want to."
She stopped in her track, making San almost bump in her, and she muttered a sorry to him as she continued walking again. San decided he would join them now.
"Something wrong?" he asked.
"Not sure you'd like me as a friend."
"And why do you think that?" San looked at her curiously.
Seohyun sighed, "I'm... how do I put it? I don't think I need friends. But that sounds rude. I don't mean to sound rude, it's just... better if you all don't mind me. I'd only be a bother and make everyone uncomfortable."
"We don't mind. We weren't all friends from the beginning. The group grew larger with time."
"And why do you think you don't need friends?" San asked.
Seohyun looked at him, then looked away, trying to avoid his steel gaze. "Not the type of person anyone would like as a friend."
"We won't know until we try though," Wooyoung said and smiled at her, making Seohyun wonder why the world didn't have more Wooyoungs.
"No harm in trying, right?" Yunho, who was behind her, vouched in.
Seohyun stopped to look at the odd group of friends, who were all smiling cheekily.
"You sure, blueberry?" She asked Hongjoong, who gasped in surprise. Yunho laughed out loud.
"If you don't call me blueberry, then why not?"
"Blueberry." Seohyun said and turned to walk away, hearing everyone laugh and make fun of Hongjoong. She saw the familiar figure of the ghost she had decided to meet, and she motioned with her eyes to turn to their left.
The ghost understood and it waited for her to turn left too. Seohyun looked back once at the boys who were now a good few steps behind, and she turned left, hoping no one had seen her, saw the empty road and joined hands with the ghost. She felt the familiar feeling of her heart sinking and her stomach flipping as the ghost teleported her to where it wanted to go.
The boys, who did notice her turning left in a hurry, followed soon after, only to find a very empty road with no where she could have gone or hidden.
"She did turn left. Right?" Mingi asked.
"She did. Didn't she? Or am I losing it finally?" Jongho muttered.
"Maybe it wasn't her?" Wooyoung suggested.
"But it was her. The grey in her hair..." Yunho said. "Maybe she turned right?" He looked at his right, where a few students were walking too.
San had been watching her and he was very sure she had turned left. Where she had gone... was a mystery.
"Strange..."
---------------
"That's... horrible."
Seohyun stood in front of a small house, the white walls glaring back at her. The ghost, a young girl only her age, had just teleported her to an empty alley near this house, which belonged to her best friend. The ghost had just finished telling her how she had died; a road accident by a drunk driver. Since she had died an untimely death, she couldn't do anything about it except mourn over her own death.
"But... people who die in such accidents usually like to make sure justice is served, and get the perpetrator punished. Don't you wanna do that?"
"Oh, I did," the girl pushed her long black hair back, "my parents are doing a good job there, so I wanna let them continue. I don't... want them to know that I'm still here. They should find their peace with all this."
"Wow," Seohyun couldn't help but be amazed at how thoughtful this girl was, "that's very wise of you actually. So what are we doing here?"
"I checked on my friend, Chaeyoung, and it seems like she's not... doing well. I want to somehow let her know that I'm okay. I think that's when I'll be able to move on."
Seohyun, for once, felt actually sorry for the friend. She didn't have a best friend so she couldn't relate, but having someone like that in your life and so suddenly losing them... must be very sad.
"Okay, let's do this," Seohyun said, taking a deep breath and taking off her baseball cap off. She smoothened her uniform and finally rang the bell.
"What if someone else is home, and she creates a ruckus-"
"I checked, she's alone for now." The girl said, and again, she mentally applauded the girl for being so thoughtful.
"Hey, what was your name again? I mean how do I introduce-"
At that moment, a tall girl sporting a bob and puffy eyes fresh from crying opened the door.
"Hi," Seohyun said.
"Do I know you?" Chaeyeong asked.
"You don't, but I'm here to talk to you. I heard your friend recently passed away-" Seohyun paused when Chaeyoung rolled her eyes and attempted to shut the door at her face.
"Wait!" Seohyun said and Chaeyoung paused.
"My name is Soojin." The ghost finally said, and Seohyun looked at her once, catching her nervous stance before turning back to Chaeyoung.
"You might not believe it, but Soojin is here," Seohyun said, and Chaeyoung pursed her lips. "And I don't have all day, so I'll just prove it. Soojin told me some stuff only the two of you would know. How you had a crush on her brother for the longest time, how you want to meet your childhood best friend who's moved to the States, how-"
"Wait," Chaeyoung stepped out, "How- when did Soojin tell you this? Are you Soojin's friend?"
"My name is Seohyun. and I'm sure you've never heard of me from Soojin," Chaeyoung nodded and Seohyun continued, "Soojin is here. She hasn't been able to move on to the afterlife or whatever it is ahead because she can't stand seeing you in pain and blaming yourself because you invited her over to meet with you. She wants you to know that her parents are doing a great job at making sure the drunk driver gets punished, and she wants you to know it's not your fault."
Seohyun watched Chaeyoung's eyes fill with tears at that, and she put a hand in front of her mouth as tears fell, "She's really here?"
"Right here," Seohyun pointed towards where Soojin stood.
"Can't I see her?" Chaeyoung asked, "I want to see her one last time. If I can."
"I'm afraid not," Seohyun sighed, "I don't know if that's possible. But she can see you and hear you right now, just like me. So I'll leave you to say your last goodbye. You can call me when you're done, okay Soojin?"
Soojin nodded and Seohyun went into the little garden in the house to give them some space. She watched as Chaeyoung cried and spoke to her best friend for the last time, falling to her knees. Soojin couldn't touch her, but she patted her head and it was like Chaeyoung could actually feel it.
Seohyun looked up at the cloudy sky. For once, she wished it was sunnier.
After a few minutes, Soojin called out to Seohyun. She awkwardly patted Chaeyoung on the back, and Soojin started speaking as Seohyun told Chaeyoung that Soojin loved her, and yes, it was her who kept sticking their photo back at the wall to give her a sign, and she wanted Chaeyoung to stop talking to the walls because she won't be there to listen to her anymore and that would only make her look crazy (at which Chaeyoung laughed).
"I don't have a best friend, but you guys, you both had something special. And I'm saying this from my self, that I hope you cherish the bond you both had in your heart and really move on. Do what you want to, because life is short," Seohyun said and smiled.
"Thank you. I'll do my best," Chaeyoung wiped the last of her tears.
"She's going now," Seohyun said, "She wants you to smile so that's the last thing she sees."
Chaeyoung smiled as tears fell from her eyes, and Soojin said, "This fool. I told her to smile."
"Stop being so petty, Soojin, she is smiling!"
"What did she say?" Chaeyoung asked.
"She said she asked you to smile, not cry," Seohyun said and Chaeyoung burst out laughing.
Soojin thanked Seohyun for helping her, and she watched as she shut her eyes, and disappeared in an instant.
Seohyun sighed, and Chaeyoung understood. "Thank you, Seohyun. I hope we can meet again?"
"Oh, you don't have to do that," Seohyun shook her head, "I just hope you'll have a good life ahead."
"I feel bad for not doing anything for you, maybe I could take you for some coffee next time?"
"Well, actually," Seohyun looked around, "there is something you can do. Can you tell me where I am? And can you call me a taxi?"
-----------
It turned out Seohyun was actually quite a while from home, so Chaeyoung ended up paying for the taxi because she felt bad for Soojin being so thoughtless when she teleported her here (at which Seohyun admitted Soojin was one of the wisest ghosts she had encountered). About 40 minutes later, Seohyun decided to drop by at a food street, because she was starving.
Seohyun walked through the hustling street, various food carts lining the street, several restaurants and cafes amidst them. She decided jjajangmyeon would do, so she sat alone at the table in the street, waiting for her meal. She was too tired to look at her phone so she just watched the people walking and eating.
She wished Jiwoo was here. Better than having no company. She wouldn't admit it, but she had grown quite used to her company. Jiwoo still hadn't been able to recall her memories of who she was and how she died, and why she was still hanging around. So Seohyun had left her at it.
Seohyun was so lost thinking about Jiwoo that she didn't notice Seonghwa, Hongjoong and Mingi approaching her until they stopped right in front of her.
"Of all the places," Seohyun wondered out loud, not caring how it might sound to them.
"It seems like we were meant to meet today," Mingi said dramatically, and Hongjoong slapped his arm as he said, "It looks like you haven't gone home yet. Isn't it very late?"
Seohyun sat back in her chair, putting one leg on top of the other. "And what do you care?"
"Ah, so that's what you meant when you said people don't like to have you as a friend," Hongjoong said, and Seonghwa gasped at his friend as he scolded him, but stopped when Seohyun laughed out loud.
"Since you're here, are you gonna take a seat or will you be continuing to walk aimlessly?"
"I guess we'll take a seat," Mingi said, and they all sat and decided to order food first.
"Aren't you cold?" Seonghwa asked, as he noticed how Seohyun put her bag on her bare legs.
"I am. But I'm okay," she said, and Seonghwa shook his head as he started to take off his jacket. "Oh please, I'm okay, I'll feel really bad if you do this."
"Nonsense, this is an extra layer anyway," Seonghwa handed her the jacket and she realized it was true; he did have many layers on him. So Seohyun put his jacket on her legs, muttering a thank you.
"So what's your story?" Hongjoong asked, and Seohyun raised her brows as she said, "You first. I'll talk after I have some food."
"Alright then," Hongjoong said, and told her how they all had been classmates since elementary, with Seonghwa and Hongjoong being friends since that time, until Wooyoung and Yeosang who had also been friends joined, then one by one the group grew.
"Interesting," Seohyun said, "And the 8 of you... How do you get along peacefully? I can't even get along with one."
Mingi pfft-ed at her. "We aren't exactly saints ourselves, but with us being 8, it becomes hard to take anyone serious."
Seohyun scoffed, "So the reason you all get along so well is because you all don't take anyone serious."
"Basically, yes," Mingi answered proudly, and food was served. Seohyun hungrily dig in, and Seonghwa scolded her for eating so quick.
"So with Seonghwa as a mother figure of the group," Seohyun began, "I can imagine why there is peace among all of you."
"Ha. ha. Very funny," Seonghwa rolled his eyes but Hongjoong and Mingi laughed, agreeing with her as they said, "She's not wrong."
She watched them bicker back and forth and wondered if this could really work out. They seemed very tightly knit, and she felt like an intruder. She wasn't even sure if they would feel comfortable with her. Why had they even asked her to be their friend?
"It really does show. That you've been friends for a long time," Seohyun commented, fiddling with her noodles.
"It does, huh?" Mingi smiled at her.
"Can I ask you something?" Seohyun said, and they nodded, "Why did you ask me to be your friend? I mean, you guys look okay as you are now. You don't need an extra friend in this group of yours. So why ask, and why me?"
"Well, how do I put it..." Hongjoong wondered out loud.
"You've got good aim," Mingi said, and for a second, Seohyun was lost before she realized.
"I didn't do that on purpose!" Seohyun's eyes were wide, and Mingi told her that he, of course, was joking, But he winked right after, which made her wonder if that was actually one of the reasons.
"Our group needs a girl. There are too many boys." Seonghwa said, and Seohyun raised an eyebrow.
"I'm sure there's no lack of girls in your school."
"There isn't... but they are too... girly?" Hongjoong seemed to think how to put it, and Seohyun folded her arms.
"And what if I am girly too?" Seohyun countered.
"You're just the right amount of weird. Yeosang already clicked so well with you. San loves your cat. You sit in the middle of us. You have no friends. Now you can't avoid it."
"Wow, okay," Seohyun finished her noodles as she thought about what they had said. "And what if... we don't get along?" Seohyun asked.
"We're not exactly forcing you, are we?" Hongjoong asked and she nodded, "If you like to stay alone, then fine. But Wooyoung, it was his idea. And he really knows when a person needs a friend."
"Oh," Seohyun realized what he meant. She looked like she needed friends.
"Plus, we do get along well, don't you think?" Mingi smiled.
"Well, what can I say, except that you'll find me really weird. And okay, I can try. But one day, you're gonna wonder why you even thought we could be friends. You'll wish you'd never asked me."
The three of them stared at her. Seohyun stared back and once again, the three of them burst out laughing.
"We're already regretting. Was it so hard to make friends, Hongjoong?" Mingi asked.
"I don't even remember. Wow."
Seohyun couldn't help but laugh as she thought how it was gonna be. It was true. No one took anything serious.
Maybe they'll never find out about her ghost problems then.
Or maybe they'll never believe her.

Light Up The Dark
Part 1 | June
pairing: bartender!tom x famous!reader
warnings: some smut +18 (in this particular chapter it’s nothing TOO explicit, but miniors be aware), swear words?, drinking, let me know if anything else!
words: 4.9 k
summary: y/n is a famous horror writer. Her books are on the lips of the people and her face is on all the magazine covers of promising young people.
She has just moved to Los Angeles, the city of celebrities and luxury, when she starts to get a writer's block as she starts writing her newest book. A way to distract herself and seek inspiration leads her to have her destiny mapped out with a simple waiter named Tom who has a delicious british accent.
What happens when her inspiration comes back only after she spends a night with him and she only manages to write after being in the company of that guy she just met? Maybe he'll become her newest addiction.
a/n: english it’s not my first language, so i’m sorry for any mistake! this is a series i started writing a while ago, i hope y’all enjoy :) the reader it’s from brazil here, but you can replace from any country you want lol And obv i’m not from LA and never been there, so if i say something out of reality it’s bc of that 😂
"June arrived at the restaurant, sat down near the bar and looked around vaguely. The strange people's faces made her think better and maybe drink a shot of tequila too.
She opened his folder with the horrifying photos of the mysterious case. She felt sick to her stomach.
People said that by then she should have been used to see this kind of thing, but that was repulsive.
She wish the nightmare she had the night before was a way to solve that puzzle, but believing in the afterlife now wouldn't help her... If...If..."
- Damn it... - Y/n slammed her fist on the table. - Writer's block sucks. - She said and took the last sip of her tea.
It s been a week since she couldn't write anything. She would write maybe two paragraphs, maybe even three if she got lucky, but she always ended up erasing it, because she always turned into something meaningless or too cliche.
Damn the time she had promised to deliver something to her editor by the end of the month. But she hadn't counted on the lack of ideas when she agreed to that.
She got up from her chair in frustration and crossed her arms, pacing, as if her creativity had gone out for a walk and she was waiting impatiently for it to come back.
Why had she agreed to write a new book in the first place? She didn't need money. Their previous four books were already making huge profits, and they were going to make a new television series based on one of them.
So why writing another one? Maybe because, she had been having too many nightmares lately. Many family and friends told her to see a psychologist, see if she didn't have some hidden trauma. But looking for a psychologist? Admitting your weaknesses and personal things to a stranger? Never. That would be horrifying.
Writing helped. Transferring his fears to pages was hers gift. When she wrote she didn't have nightmares, didn't see things, wasn't sad. It was like a drug, a calming medicine.
Maybe fame was also making her restless lately. She hated being the spotlight, being the magazine cover of promising young people. She hated to see her name highlighted. But she loved having readers, yes. She loved when someone felt good reading her books or in the good sense of the word: terrified by her stories.
At the height of her 25 years, he never thought her books would become famous at that point. She had always enjoyed writing since she was a child, but working with it was just an unattainable dream. Until, at age 19, she quit her hideous job as a hotel receptionist and decided to publish her first story.
Obviously there were many rejections, until a publisher agreed to publish their work. From then on, her books became more and more known. They called her the new horror genius, the mystery queen, and sometimes even "Stephen King's lost daughter."
She didn't think it was all that. But she accepted the descriptions gladly. No wonder her books didn't come out of the top spot on the best sellers.
Another thing that motivated her to continue with that story, was a phrase from her own idol mentioned, Stephen King: "good stories are those that stay in the head for a long time". And God only knew how that story had been with her for far too long. She always wanted to put it down on paper, so here she was trying to put into words what her head brought up as random thoughts.
But now she was having one of his first creative blocks. Obviously she had already had it with previous books, but nothing as frustrating as this one. She had been trying hard for days, which was exhausting.
She looked at the clock on the wall: 11pm. Who knows if she took another break before starting writing again? Maybe it would help to come up with more ideas.
She thought about watching a show or movie, but he wasn't in the mood. She looked at her long polka dot pajamas under her favorite warm robe and snorted. Go out? On a Thursday night? On a cold night? No way.
But what if it helped her have more writing material? Watching people on the street really helped. If June, the character in her book, was in a bar, maybe if she went to one too it would help to have something to build on.
Writers did it all the time. Describe places that already existed, situations similar to which they lived. So, it wouldn't be new. Maybe she'd even put the location in her tribute if helped she got out of her creative block.
She took a deep breath and went to take a shower. It was decided, she would go out. She put on her best jeans, a Ramones T-shirt with a leather jacket. It wasn't a fancy outfit, but she didn't intend to go somewhere fancy anyway. Her stylist would have been dying to see her now, but she didn't care one bit.
She went out pressing the bottom of the elevator. Y/n had lived on the top floor of a building for 2 months, right in downtown Los Angeles. Sometimes she didn't even know why she chose to live there, she hated the big city and what came with it: paparazzi, celebrities, crazy people who feel superior, wealth and luxury. She came from a humble family, so she always felt like an outsider.
Y/n arrived downstairs and left the condominium calling a taxi that was passing in the street just in time. She walked in and closed the door, crossing her arms, trying to ward off the cold.
- Good night miss, where are you going? - the driver asked looking at her in the rearview mirror.
- Good night... Actually I don't know, do you have any suggestions for a bar around here?- she asked looking out the window. She didn't even bother to look for suggestions for places nearby.
- Well, it depends on what you're looking for... Something luxurious or something fun? - He said and a smiled played on the corer of her mouth. Luxurious was the opposite of fun indeed.
- Something fun, of course.
- So, I suggest the new Seven Devils bar, it's less than 20 minutes from here... - he said.
- Interesting name... Could be. - She said shrugging.
- The name is kinda creepy, but the place is cozy and welcoming, I went once. - the driver said starting and entering the street that was practically empty for being a weekday.
- Cool... - Y/n said looking at the city lights through the window.
After nearly twenty minutes the taxi stopped in front of what appeared to be a small door with a security guard in front of it. The neon sign indicated the name of the place, it seemed a mysterious place for those who passed by without knowing it.
- Thanks. - Y/n said handing the driver the money.
- You're not the Y/n Y/l/n? I didn't want to say anything, but I'm a fan of you, I love your books, they help me pass the time while I wait for passengers. - the driver asked turning a little with one of the Y/n books in his hand. - Could you sign this for me?
- Sure! - Y/n spoke excitedly taking the book from his hand and leaving a message along with her signature. - Thanks for the tip of the place. Have a good night... - She said opening the door.
- No, thank you, have a good night miss. -he said and she smiled closing the door and the taxi left leaving her alone looking at the door in front of her.
She approached the security guard who wished her good night, giving her room to enter, after she showed her ID. Y/n entered a little afraid of what she would find. The door behind her closed and she looked around. It was really cozy as the taxi driver said, it had a part with several tables, which were a little empty and a bar with stools around. The place had a good atmosphere, one of those that people go there to meet and chat with friends, in the background there was a kind of pop song that she wasn't sure if she knew or not.
He slowly approached the bar and sat down on one of the stools. A woman with several tattoos appeared behind the counter and came to serve her.
- Good night! How can I serve you?- she asked with a smile.
- Good night... Hm... Maybe a martini? - Y/n said taking a look at the drinks on the shelf behind the attendant.
- Okay, I'll be back with your order, anything else?
- That's it for now, thanks. - She replied smiling and the attendant walked away.
Y/n kept looking around, watching people, maybe looking for some inspiration. Something that would turn the key in his mind. Many who were there were in groups of friends and were talking animatedly, laughing. Some young and some older, in suits and ties, perhaps coming out of work.
Until one guy in particular caught her attention. He wore the black uniform with the name of the place, with an apron tied around the waist of the same color, and was picking up some glasses from some empty tables. He had dark brown hair slicked back and eyes the same color, very expressive and large. A boy's face from the outside, but on the inside had a mysterious and confident air.
He balanced a tray full of things with an greatest skill in one hand and smiled at some people, he seemed charming because everytime he left a table he left people whispering and giggling embarrassed behind his back.
He walked over and entered the bar placing the tray behind the counter, came close to the other attendant who already had the Y/n martini ready and she could hear him talking, soon realizing he had a perfect accent.
- Sally, you can leave it to me, go take your break. Whose martini is it?- he asked taking a look around.
- Oh thank you, my feet are killing me. It's the girl over there. -she said indicating Y/n with her head and he looked at her, making Y/n realize that she was staring at him for too long, so she looked away embarrassed.
- Okay. - he said looking at where Y/n was sitting and stopped in front of her with the glass. - Good night miss, here is your order. - He spoke with a british accent. Only at that moment did Y/n realize that his accent was well loaded and God only knows how much she loved that accent.
- Oh yes, thank you very much. - She said raising her eyes to look at him and smiled then he blinked with one of his eyes and gave her one more look, before going to deliver another order to a man who was sitting a few benches away.
Y/n felt a shiver all of a sudden, that boy had made her legs a little weak and she didn't really know why. I mean, he was handsome, very handsome and he had a special charm, but it wasn't that much, was it? Maybe it was because it had been a while since she'd dated anyone. When was the last time? Two months ago? Since she had moved in she hadn't gone out with anyone, she had locked herself in her apartment and was writing like crazy. She didn't have time to go out, not even with her friends when she was working on a new book. Which brought them dissatisfaction from time to time, not just because she didn't hang around with them, but because she didn't even go out on one-night stands.
She never been the one that going out with a guy just for sex, she had to have some good first dates and maybe she would take him to see her apartment or go to his apartment. Friends of hers thought she was too old in her spirit, but what can he do? If she couldn't be bad girl once in a while. For a moment she thought, "For this english guy I would be" but shook her head away from the thoughts. She went back to analyzing him, dammit why did he have to be so fit? She could see that the T-shirt he was wearing highlighted his muscles that were only left to her imagination, she found herself biting her lip a bit and snatching her martini off the counter, taking a big sip.
The attendant approached again, drying some glasses with a towel, and took one more look in her direction where she looked away quickly making him smirk. He stopped in front of her again, bracing her arms on the counter, making her swallow hard. He didn't know why she was so nervous, he was just a guy, no biggie.
- I like the shirt. - He pointed with a smile, which made her think he had a beautiful and endearing smile. She looked down and then looked at him smiling too.
- Thank you... Ramones is everything... - she said and drank the last sip of her drink placing the empty glass in front of her right after. - Can you serve one more?
- Sure...- he said, still smiling, took the bottle and filled his glass again. - Trying to distract yourself on a thursday night?
- Yeah... you could say yes... - she said taking another sip. - Have you worked here for a long time?
- In fact, it's been almost six months since I moved to the United States and I've been working here for four months. -he said putting the towel that was in his hand on his shoulder.
- Hm... You're from London?
- I am, wow how did you find out? - he asked raising an eyebrow playfully and she smiled.
- Yeah, your accent really doesn't give out anything ... - she said and he gave a low laugh making her have more goose bumps.
- You also have a different accent, have you lived here for a long time? - he didn't know who she was, which was good. But it also wasn't like she was recognized all the time, despite her face being on magazine covers, she was still a writer, so she was only recognized by those who liked to read or who vaguely remembered her face.
- I was born in Brazil actually, but I've lived here for years, lived in another city for almost five years and now I've decided to come to Los Angeles two months ago...
- I see ... - he said organizing some drinks that were on the counter. - Do you like it here?
- More or less... It's a busy city, isn't it?
- Yeah, it's not for anyone. - He said shrugging. - I like it, I like the rush, but the glamor part really isn't me. - the attendant said and she smiled.
- You're right... I mean, I don't like the glam too much either... - She looked away at her nails.
- What do you work with? - he asked and she looked at him again.
- I'm a writer...
- Nice! What do you write? - He asked curious looking at her with attention.
- I write horror and thriller books.
- Interesting... I would never read, actually I'm not much of a reader anyway, but I wouldn't, because I'm terrified of those things. - He said crossing his arms and she laughed.
- Oh, it's not that terrifying, it's just stories. - She said leaning her elbows on the counter.
- Still, I prefer to have my good night's sleep intact. - He said and she laughed making him smile looking at her.
When she was about to say something, a customer signaled for him and he excused himself going towards the man who was furthest away.
Y/n sighed. She still didn't have any new ideas about her story, but she was entertained by that conversation. She liked not being recognized, she liked him not being interested in her books, for a moment she felt oblivious to anything, liked feeling disconnected from her world.
He returned shortly after and they started talking again. They talked about bands, movies, superficial celebrities and even politics (an important topic in Y/n's vision, who was very firm with her ideas, thankfully he had passed the test). She found out that he was the same age as her and that he moved to the US to look for something that would give him money or a perspective on life, ended up getting that job and intended to stay until he found a different area. The hours passed and they kept finding subjects to give their opinion or questions to ask each other.
- Did you go to college? - she asked after a while.
- No, I don't think I'm smart enough for that, or have the patience. What about you?
- Everyone is smart enough. I started going to business school, but I dropped out when my books started to pay off...
- Wow, your books should give you a good amount of money to be able to drop out of college and dedicate yourself to them...
- Yeah... You could say that. - She shrugged.
- You know looking at you closer like that...- he said getting a little closer and she held her breath for a moment. - I've seen you somewhere...
- Really? - She said raising her eyebrow and drinking from a straw, now with a different drink.
- I don't know, you're not strange to me... - he said putting his hand on his face thoughtfully.
- Well, I hope it's from somewhere nice. - She smiled and he smiled back looking at her. - Do you have a girlfriend or are you married? - Y/n asked and regretted a little, what was she thinking? He wasn't married, as he didn't have a ring on his finger as she'd noticed. But what was her intention by asking that question? She didn't even know, she just knew it had escaped her.
- Neither darling. - He replied smiling a little mischievously and she felt butterflies with the way he called her by that nickname and with that accent. - How about you?
- Neither ... - She replied avoiding looking at him, those eyes hypnotized her and she didn't like to feel at his mercy of a guy she had just met. She took the cell phone disguising but paid attention to the time. - My God, it's already 2:00 in the morning! I completely missed the time.
- I think the company ended up distracting you. - He said still not taking his eyes off her and she felt her cheeks heat up.
- Yeah, the chat was really good... But I have to go... - she said getting up.
- If you wait I can take you home, I'm already leaving, the bar is already closing. - he said and Y/n looked around seeing that some waiters were already collecting some things from the tables.
She thought for a moment, take a ride home with him? It didn't make sense, she had just met him, but at the same time she had enjoyed talking to him so much. He didn't seem like a bad person, but even so you would never know for sure. At the same time she never took any chances, why not let that pretty boy take her home? Finally, she thought: you know what? Screw this.
-Erm, ok...- She shrugged. - I'll go to the cashier to pay and wait for you outside?
- No need to pay darling, it's on me. - He spoke winking and she smiled.
- Oh no, I'll pay no problem...
- Your company has paid off your debt, it's ok. - He replied and she took a deep breath rolling her eyes.
- If you insist...- she said giving up.
He came out from behind the counter and motioned for her to follow him, arriving at the front door where the security was.
- Tuwaine, you can let her pass, it's on me. - He told the big guy and he looked at the english man, sawing his eyes suspiciously and smiling right away. Making Y/n laugh inside.
- Meet you outside? It will only take a few minutes - the attendant said and she nodded, leaving in the cold night.
She leaned against the door with her thoughts. She had come here just to get inspiration and to have her creative back, but she was coming home with an english guy. She didn't even recognize herself anymore, but to say she wasn't anxious (in a good way) was a lie.
She was lost in her thought, until minutes later he came out wearing a denim jacket, which made him look even more handsome.
- Let's go? - He said and she followed him to an old car parked right in front of the bar.
He opened the door for her to get in and she thanked him by sitting in the passenger seat, pulling on her seat belt as he closed the door. He sat down next to her right away, also putting on his belt.
- Hey, before we go: I didn't ask for your name! If you're going to take me home at least I have to know that- she asked realizing that she didn't even know that yet and he looked towards her smiling.
- Tom Holland. - He said stretching his hand. - Nice to meet you.
- Y/n Y/l/n- she said, squeezing his hand. And you can't deny that she felt butterflies in her stomach as she felt her skin on hers.
- Your name is not strange to me, I must have read it in one of your books in some shop window. - He said starting and leaving with the car.
- Yeah, who knows ... - she said and he turned on the radio leaving the volume low.
They were exchanging a few words until she indicated that they had arrived at the building where she lived. Tom parked and looked up in a daze.
- Wow, you really have money... - he said and she took off her belt turning towards him.
- A little bit...- she replied crossing her arms. - Well, thank you so much for the ride...
- You're welcome darling. - He said turning his eyes to her. Again that nickname that sounded perfect on his lips.
She turned around, but when she was about to open the door, she turned back to Tom, who was leaning with one hand on the steering wheel and watching her with attention. The next words escaped her again and she was afraid she'd regret it.
- Tom, do you want to come in? - She spoke still holding the door and the boy smiled.
- Sure ... - he said taking the key from the ignition and she shook her head slightly leaving.
He followed her and they entered the building. Tom looked at everything admired which made Y/n smile a little to herself. They entered the elevator and she pressed the penthouse button causing him to raise an eyebrow.
- You really must be a great writer. - he said and she laughed.
He leaned his back against the elevator wall, putting his hands in his pocket and looking her up and down, making her shy. He kept looking at her and it was making her nervous.
They were silent until the elevator opened after a while and they got out. Y/n put a password on the door and it swung open with a small click, she took held the latch and motioned for Tom to enter.
After the two of them entered she closed the door again behind her and watched Tom standing further on, looking around.
- Nice apartment...- he finally said.
- Thank you... - She leaned against the table at the entrance. She didn't know what to do next, maybe it had been a bad idea to bring him here. Why was she so impulsive that night? -Tom, I don't know why I invite you in, sorry...-she said a little nervous looking at her feet. He turned towards her, approaching and stopping in front of her.
- Are you sure you don't know? - He asked and she raised her head, seeing those brown eyes. She bit her bottom lip watching him closely. Damn he knew how to hypnotize her. He took another step and placed a hand on either side of her on the table, cornering her - Your body says otherwise, love... - he said softly feeling her breath hitch slowly and approaching his face to hers, alternating the look of your eyes to her lips. Y/n found another nickname that was perfect when he say.
He finally closed the distance by pressing his lips to hers. His lips were soft and warm, as if they were meant to be kissed. She returned the kiss willingly and when she laced her fingers in his neck, he licked her lower lip slowly asking for passage in which she opened them letting his tongue explore her mouth.
His hands gripped her waist and roamed her body greedily. As he kissed her, he caught her from behind her legs and sat her down on the entrance table, biting her bottom lip shortly after, provoking a low moan from her. He smiled against her lips and trailed kisses to her neck, attacking her skin with desire, making her throw her head back a little.
She grabbed his hair and pulled him back so she could kiss him. Which he gladly reciprocate. His kiss was urgent, but without being rude, he tasted like mint, making her want him even more.
His fingers found the button of her pants and he undid them quickly pulling them out, tossing them aside. When he came back he took her calf and kissed her leg up to her thighs, making her sigh. He moved up the kisses until he caught the hem of her shirt and pulled it up a little, kissing her stomach as well. Y/n didn't know what to do but feel goose bumps with every touch he gave. He then hiked up her shirt and she lifted her arms where he pulled her off, tossing along with her pants that were also on the floor.
She was just wearing her underwear in front of him, it made her a little excited and embarrassed at the same time, but the way he looked at her made her feel confident. He went back to kissing her body, this time kissing each covered breast in turn and reaching for the back of her bra and opening it. She helped him out tosiing to the side and he stood between her legs just watching her for a second, making her feel her cheeks heat up.
- Perfect... - he said with a low voice, as it was for himself and bent down to her breasts kissing each one of her nipples and then sucking them deliciously. Y/n moaned and bit her lip to keep her moans from getting louder, tangling her fingers in his hair again. He looked into her eyes for a few seconds and smiled slightly lowering his kisses to where she wanted him most.
He reached the hem of her panties and pulled them out slowly, kneeling between her legs and she looked at him with expectation. He returned the look and gave that smirk again.
- Look at you darling.... - That damn nickname. - Extremely wet and I haven't even touched you yet... - he said approaching and devouring her right away making her throw her head back with pleasure, biting her lips again to not sound so pathetic with her moans that insisted in wanting get out. - Oh, please don't drown out those wonderful sounds you make, I want to hear how good I'm making you feel. - He said in a husky tone, returning to his task after and she parted her lips letting her moans spread through the apartment.
****************************************************************************************
Y/n woke up the other day in her bed. She didn't even know how she got there, she just had flashes of the night before and how good she felt in each moment. She stretched and looked to the side seeing she was alone. She got up and put on a robe who was on the side of the bed.
After going to the bathroom and doing her morning hygiene routine she walked around the apartment looking around to see if Tom was somewhere else in the house, but found nothing. Which was understandable, it wasn't like she expected him to stay there and have breakfast with her and all.
She arrived in the kitchen and made black coffee and lean against the countertop. What that simple waiter had done to her was ridiculous, in a good sense, she felt great and kept remembering that accent that was stuck in her mind. He had consumed her in a way she had never imagined it she could be.
Taking a deep breath she set down turning her notebook on. Then opened her book and started writing.

Campfire ~Malleus x GN!MC~
You were in the woods behind the botanical garden and chopped firewood. Tonight, you would have a nice evening at the campfire at Ramshackle dorm with your newfound friends from the Night Raven College....
...at least, that was the plan.
As it turned out, nobody - not a SINGLE soul - had time or were in the mood to come. The people from Heartslabyul were eagerly prepairing for an Unbirthday party the next day, Savannaclaw simply didn't want to come and Octanivelle was busy with the Mostro Lounge. Not even Kalim from Scarabia, who was usually all in for anything that was fun, could come because he and Jamil were suddenly called home because of some family business. You didn't make the effort of asking anyone from Pomefiore or Ignihyde, the first because they don't like making themselves dirty (except for Epel, perhaps, but since Vil was so strict, you didn't want to risk it) and the second because you didn't even know anyone from that dorm.
The only person you could still ask would be the Diasomnia dorm leader, Malleus. He didn't give you his name at first, so you referred to him as Tsunotarou. However, you only ever met him a few times in front of Ramshackle dorm and you didn't want to make him feel like he was just some sort of last resort. Then again, he was overjoyed when you invited him to the VDC. There was a chance that he wouldn't turn you down.
Making up your mind, you grabbed the chopped wood and brought it back to Ramshackle dorm, where you already set up a fireflace with three thick logs serving as benches. Then you went to the mirror that would take you to Diasomnia dorm. It was like a dark castle, befitting the Witch of thorns. You walked through the halls, hoping to find the dorm lounge.
"Looking for someone?" A voice from above suddenly said, causing you to jump. A little boy with black and pink hair then stood before you. "Hey, Lilia." You greeted the vice dorm leader. "Is Tsuno - I mean is Malleus there?"
"Sure. He's in the lounge. Come, I'll take you to him." Grateful that Lilia would lead the way, you followed him. Lilia wouldn't just let anyone see Malleus, but he knew that he had found a liking to you, which is why he didn't try to stop you.
The lounge was decorated in lime green, silver and black, much like everything in this dorm. It was nearly empty, only a few students in the back playing chess. Malleus sat alone on the couch and read a book. "Hey, Malleus! You have a guest." Lilia said and pushed you in his direction. Malleus looked up from his book and at you. "Ah, it's you." He said and smiled. "Did you decide to pay me a visit now that you know my true identity?"
You giggled. "To me, you'll stay Tsunotarou." You teased, causing Malleus to chuckle. "I'm gonna start a campfire this evening. Wanna come?"
Malleus looked at you, puzzled, and then asked: "What's a campfire?" If you had something to drink, you would've spit it out. "You don't know what that is? Have you never gone camping before?" You asked in shock. Malleus shook his head. You couldn't put a finger on it, but you believed that you just saw sorrow in his eyes. Lilia then explained that Malleus had spent his entire life in his castle.
"Oh, in that case, I gotta explain." You said with a sheepish smile. "Well, a campfire is basically like a fireplace, but outside. You sit around it and grill bread on a stick, sausages or marshmallows. We sing songs and laugh and simply have a good time."
"Sounds fun!" Lilia said, overjoyed on the inside that Malleus got invited to something. "Well, since you came all the way here to invite me, I'll gladly come." Malleus said. You jumped up in joy, relieved that you didn't need to spend the night all by yourself. "Wonderful! See you at dawn. Lilia, feel free to come too, if you want." You said and then rushed out.
After you left, Malleus couldn't stop himself from grinning. He got invited to something. You had invited him again, even though you knew his true identity now. It didn't seem to bother you in the least. "They really are something else, now aren't they." Malleus mumbled and shook his head with a smile. "You two would make a cute couple, you know?" Lilia teased. Malleus gave him an irritated look, but then picked up his book and continued reading.
At dawn, you had everything prepared for the campfire. The sticks and the dough for the bread on a stick were ready, your guitar leaned on one of the logs and the fire was already burning. While waiting for your company, you took the guitar and played a few accords. It's been a while since you last played. After going through all accords you remembered, you started playing some of your favourite songs and sang along.
Lost in the song, you didn't notice Malleus and Lilia arriving. Lilia wanted to announce their arrival, but Malleus held him back. He wanted to listen to your voice a little longer, afraid you wouldn't dare to sing in front of him. When you finished your song, the two clapped loudly. You startled and turned around. When you realized who was clapping, you smiled. The two walked over and sat down on the logs.
"You're really good, MC." Lilia said. "Have you considered joining the light music club? We're a little short on members, you know."
You giggled and put the guitar aside. "I'll think about it." Then you took the dough and wrapped some of it around the tips of the sticks. "In for some bread on a stick?" You asked the faes and handed a stick to each of them. They both accepted, but you had to stop Lilia from trying to eat the dough raw.
"You have to bake it over the fire first. Like this!" You explained and held your own stick over the campfire. Malleus silently followed your instructions, while Lilia was a little more chatty. Before you knew it, the three of you nibbled on your bread. "That's good." Malleus said as he carefully bit chunks out of the bread. "Do you do this often?"
"Yeah. On summer vacation, we always go camping for three weeks and we make a campfire every evening." You said, smiling in nostalgia. "We should do that more often, don't you think?"
Malleus nodded. "I'd like that." You looked at each other and got lost in your eyes for a moment. His eyes were such a bright green, like emeralds. "Gosh, get a room, you two!" Lilia blurted out, reminding you two of his presence. Malleus looked confused, while you giggled embarrassed.
You then took your guitar and played some of your favourite songs from your world. Malleus closed his eyes and listened to your lovely voice. He didn't know the song, but he eventually found himself bobbing in tact to the music. When Malleus opened his eyes to glance at you, he saw Lilia swaying from side to side.
You played every song you could remember from your world, even some in other languages neither Malleus or Lilia understood. When you finished your last song, Lilia took out his phone. "We should take a photo to remember this!" He said and slid over to you. "Malleus, come over here!"
"Sure." Malleus said and sat down next you, on the opposite side of Lilia, who held his phone up to fit the three of you into the frame. Then, he snapped the picture. "That looks good." Lilia said and showed them the picture. "I'll send it to you later."
The three of you continued to chat and tell stories to each other late into the night. Eventually, you fell asleep on Malleus' lap. Lilia giggled. "They look cute when they're asleep, don't you agree?" He said. Malleus felt his cheeks grow hot. Why did he get fluttered so easily as soon as you are even mentioned? "I should probably.... take them to bed." He mumbled and carefully took you into his arms. "Yup, do that. I'll clean up here." Lilia said and extinguished the fire. Now that the warmth of the flames was gone, it was rather chilly. It didn't bother Malleus, but he didn't want you to catch a cold, so he hurried inside the Ramshackle dorm.
Once he had found your room, he carefully put you on the bed and pulled the blanket over you. Just as he was about to leave, you grabbed his hand and pulled it closer to you. Malleus tried to carefully free his hand, but your grip was surprisingly strong for a human. Not wanting to wake you from your slumber, he decided to just give in and settle down next to you. Unconsciously, you realized a body next to you and instinctively snuggled against him. Malleus blushed as he carefully folded his arm around you, his heart beating so fast he feared it might wake you up.
"Tsuno...tarou..." you mumbled in your sleep and clutched onto his vest tighter. Malleus looked at your sleeping face, wondering if you were awake, after all. But you just breathed evenly and snuggled up against his broad chest. Your peaceful figure made Malleus sleepy as well qnd before he knew it, his eyes fluttered shut.
Lilia eventually wondered what took Malleus so long and went investigating. When he found the two of you in your bed, he giggled in delight. "Looks like the dragon is leaving his nest at last!" He murmured to himself and carefully closed the door.
"Sleep well, my little lovebirds."

Married to Mr Choi - TXT series
Please read the Masterlist before continuing ahead with this chapter.
Chapter 2:
“Hurry up and fix her hair.” the clipping at my scalp wouldn't end...
“Where’s the pins? this part is slipping.” a pull here, a tug there...
“Here, let me past. I'll help with the makeup.”
“Stop, stop, stop.” I pulled my hands up waving them around carelessly. This was hopeless. I was in the same position for the past 2 hours and it was getting frustrating, I couldn’t breath without someone doting on me unnecessarily. It’s like I was told I could only live for the next 20 hours.
I stormed out of the room, not handling the heat anymore. Every chance I tried to take to talk to Wooyoung he brushed me off like I was 6 or something.
I was livid, absolutely fuming, if you could see smoke evaporating off my arms and head it would be visible from 10 meters away.
The guilt tripping and the manipulation was one thing, but it was a completely different situation if I was being sold for a half of Gangnam and a few toy arms for my brothers to play about with.
“This isn’t happening, I’m not being sold off.”
“You aren’t though.” I rolled my eyes; the lying was going to end here. I couldn’t take any more of this...
“What is this then? Hm? What do you call this?” I shoved the papers into Wooyoung’s face, the others were spread out across the salon.
They watched what was happening but didn’t respond. They weren’t about to get involved. Typical mafia behaviour.
“It’s a contract, but it has nothing to-”
“Oh really? Why's my name splodged all over it then?” I stomped my feet on the floor, Six hours to the wedding and here I am half-dressed and a complete wreck.
“Mila you need to calm down!” Seonghwa tried to break up the fight that was about to start but I was having none of it.
Deep, deep, deep, down I knew I was overreacting, and I should listen to what they have to say, but they didn’t have to know that... My dignity was being smashed and trampled on; I couldn’t stand here like a lifeless dummy any longer.
“It’s not your name written here; you’re not being sold off like boxed arms so don’t tell me to calm down!” my voice was getting louder by the second.
“Mila Sofía Tesoro, you’ll stop right this instant.” I flinched. The echo of my mother’s voice snapped against the marbled walls and came at me like a tsunami.
I felt the blood pumping fast across my body and it felt like I was buzzing, a strange vibrating feeling crawled across my skin.
Everything went silent for a short moment...
I stared at her in disbelief, she pushed me – her own daughter – into an arranged marriage based on work and business reasons for our family and she shamelessly yelled at me when I caught them in the act?
“So what if they created a deal along with your marriage? It’s what all good traders do.”
She entered calmly into the room but her eyes were a raging fire of shock, she wouldn't think me, her lovely and quiet Mila would make such an outburst...
“Its what all gangs do...” the mutter went past her but not past Wooyoung who sent a glance.
“You should be proud of your brothers, if it wasn’t for Wooyoung,” she set her hand onto his shoulder standing against me. “You wouldn’t be marrying into such a wealthy and strong family like the Choi clan.”
“What if I never wanted to marry from them? You ever thought about that?” I spat back. It was starting to hit me; I was being robbed of my freedom.
“Stop acting so oblivious. You knew this was going to happen all along, you were born with no options...
This was the plan the moment you were born.”
Thinking back, I know she was right. They didn’t keep this a secret or something that should be hidden from me, this was always bound to happen and secretly I knew that…
Her mouth a gun, the words shooting through me like a bullet, each one hitting every barrier I had put up over this topic. I tricked myself ever since the age of 4 to believe I had a choice.
She was completely right, I traced back to every memory I had locked away and buried deep in my head.
But I wasn’t ready to give up, I wasn’t ready to go down without a fight. My stubborn and absentminded self wouldn’t let me believe their hurtful and inevitable destiny for me.
I reached the elevator and decided to press any random floor, all of them seemed to have an extended balcony. I needed fresh air right now. I felt like I was suffocating.
“Your suffering now because of your headless thoughts. If you would have accepted your future this wouldn’t be your position right now.”
My nerves in the tips of my fingers weakened droppings some of the papers in my hand.
I wanted to run away and leave, to never come back here again. Maybe it would have been better if I left with father...
I ran out of the main room and down corridors, -ignoring every call and wail of my name, being completely honest, I didn't even want to hear my name- the hotel booked for the formality seemed luxurious than I had expected, I hadn’t taken a decent look at the structure.
Pushing against the main glass doors harshly I sucked the air in, it’s strange, I was breaking to the surface after being underwater for minutes. I inhaled deeply.
Every second the elevator took. Every minute I spent making my way to an outdoor opening felt like I was slowly losing breath and emptying out.
It took me a few seconds but I made it.
“Excuse me, are you ok?” A voice came from the left of me, my eyes widened and all at once the trees and garden set up with seating and bouquets didn’t catch my attention for much longer.
Leaning against the railing I took a quick moment to gather myself. The cool breeze against my skin calmed me for a moment.
I’m sure if I had a mirror my face would be as red as a strawberry. I puffed out a few times.
Turning to see who was addressing me in such a calm and polite manner, I glanced up and down at the tall and slender figure of a young male.
His maroon-brown hair was styled in a casual manner contrasting against the suit he was adorned in.
“I’m fine.”
What caught my attention the most was the concerned look on his face and the sparkling round orbs he had. The warmest feeling filled my entire being with a single look into the depth his eyes had.
Two large windows onlooking into his soul.
“Don’t look fine to me.” He spoke after a short pause. His voice was deep, and he mumbled the words. I noticed the accent he had, English must not be his first language.
“Needed a breath of fresh… air is all.” I turned my body to face him and only then did I feel a sense of regret for running out without getting the gown beneath patched up slightly.
“Ah.” I closed my eyes pressing my lips into a thin line, impulsivity and recklessness always got me into situations like this. Awkward was practically my middle name.
“Sorry for…” I waved my hands about hinting and the mess I was in, looking anywhere but his eyes.
“Ah no, no its quite alright.”
His smile was so soft and as he chuckled lightly it brought a glimmer of warmth to he atmosphere.
“Anyways, what are you here for? you look-” I paused trying to think of a suitable word that wouldn’t offend the good-looking stranger and make me look like an absolute pervert. “Uh- orderly?”
I slipped my tongue back into my mouth. It was sticking out to the side, a habit picked up from San. The stranger smirked, he was perceptive, attentive to the movements and mannerisms I subconsciously did. Reminded me of a squirrel.
“Thank you, I’m close with the groom, there is a wedding here this evening?” His accent was adorable it added to the charisma he had.
“Yeah, there is.” I smiled; it wasn’t bursting with happiness though. He brought back the melancholy I was feeling, it was only gone for a second, but I wished the moment were longer. It had been a while since I felt this calm.
“But you came here, looking sad. Is e-everything… ok?” he stuttered a little, but the words were clear and understandable.
Hoping he wouldn’t notice through my clothes I was the bride, I stayed silent for a moment before deciding to talk again.
“I just- I needed a break from people. I felt really… overwhelmed.” It was hard explaining my emotions. I wasn’t good with words especially when it came to topic is like this. Emotions and all.
Exhaling I turned to look out into the distance the rush was still going in the gardens. People down there; they looked like ants.
“So whats the groom like?” I kept my flickering eyes focused down and away from him.
“We are very close; he can be a bother sometimes but he’s very mature and older than me, so I trust him. He’s great!”
My heart started pounding so loud, afraid he’d hear I set my hand on my chest breathing deeply. I was trying to be as subtle as possible.
He must be 28 or maybe even 34. I would gladly take my life right now.
“That’s great.” Cursing internally for the voice break I had, I excused myself with a cough.
Passing it off as a croaky throat wasn’t as hard as understanding that the man I’m marrying tonight was old. Older than the stranger next to me.
“I should get going. Got to prepare for the wedding.” He brushed the edges of the suits. He did look like he was leaving when I burst in.
“Taehyun.” Ah…
“Whats your name?” I mumbled, wanting him to stay a little longer, even if I had met him for a few seconds...
He seemed like a good person to talk to. Someone who would listen.
“Will I see you at the wedding? Are you invited?” His head piped up after turning, definitely a squirrel.
I sighed “I’ll surprise you.”
“Just the veil, that’s all that’s left. You’re ready.”
It’ll be a surprise alright. I hated the idea of ruining my chances, but this was the last few moments I would be able to freely joke and mingle with those unfamiliar to me. The thrill I would have no longer after tonight.
~~~
After reluctantly getting back to the others and having the final preparations complete I had finally done my fittings,
And about time too, my feet were starting to numben up.
If I explained how enthralled I was with hearing those words, it wouldn’t be enough to fully describe how happy I was. Dressing and preparing the ‘image’ they found to be perfect
“You may go down to the hallway and greet some of the guests. Some of your friends are down there.”
“Who’s Beomgyu?”
But it was short lived.
"Don’t go into the garden though, Beomgyu is there.” The words were muttered carelessly.
“Your husband to be, silly.”
Oh so that’s his name? I barely knew a thing about him. Apart from the fact that he’s older than the age of 25, it’s what that taehyun guy said.
“Omg, Mila! You look great.” Yuna squealed, the energy in her was incomparable at the moment. She was freely jumping up and down. God did I wish I were in a skimpy skirt and flowy top, would have been ten times better than what I’m in.
As I made my way down, I had trouble with my dress trying to lift it, so I don’t sweep the carpeted floor of all 6 levels of the hotel.
The soft satin kept slipping past my grip, leading to a red and puffed out state for my entrance to the hall.
It was a few steps from the stairs to the grand entrance, but it felt like miles away.
“Lucky! This is so… freaking, heavy!” drawling my words out I tugged at the weighted train.
“You should be glad this was the dress they picked the other one was 2 times heavier.” Yuna's voice was filled with so much happiness, you'd think she's the one getting married...
“We can’t have a beautiful bride get married in a garbage bag, can we? Especially one as pretty as you.”
“It’s not about the designer tag, I’d be fine with practically anything at this point.” I huff getting a little frustrated.
“You could give me a garbage bag and I’ll gladly accept.”
I turned to my side to see a very tall man, the first thing I noticed was his handsome features, I was sure- for a second, I was staring at a doll. He couldn’t be real.
“Are you kidding me? I look like a mess.” He laughed and it was like the heavens had blessed humans with ears just to hear the harmonious melody of his laughter.
He clicked his tongue “Beomgyu is lucky. He’s marrying this angel.” Humming he lifts the side of the dress warily but with ease. A light grin on his face when I leaned back at his proximity.
“Is he blind,” jokingly I ask Yuna but as I turn to face her, she is out of it. The dress lingering between her fingers, all control gone from the gaze of the tall mysterious man.
“No, yo- you are though.” She mumbles he chuckles a little helping me to the doorway, before winking and slipping past the doors. He was clearly much older and his hair was dark with locks of brown.
“Jungkook… he’s so pretty...” yuna was practically drooling at this point.
“You know him?”
Lost Scrivener
Perhaps, happiness is on your way. Perhaps, for you, every day means a new venture for hope, love, prosperity, and felicity. But not for me, because for me, witnessing how the sun rises from the east with its brilliant light complementing with the blue sky means darkness, a nightmare that keeps haunting, another set of torture, pain, and sorrow−a torment. Each morning, as I open my eyes, I used to pray with my knees bended, my eyes closed, and my heart fast beating. My plea may not be the typical one for a 20-year-old; my prayer revolves around I, hoping for meeting someone who can pull me out of this chaos or I, pleading for this ineffable pain arousing inside me to vanish. None of these was heard, though. So, I got exhausted asking for those pieces of crap daily and started embodying and accepting the fact that perhaps, I was created to crave for that so-called happiness; perhaps, I was given life to be miserable.
The bus stopped at a familiar spot which is way too ironic to say, because my feet never stepped in this place before. Maybe what makes it familiar thou, is the vivid picture of it that I’ve been dreaming of every single night. And the moment I wake up, my body would shiver as the deafening beats of my heart prevailed over the loud noises from a bunch of city vehicles, like of a teenager’s seeing her childhood crush. Since then, I unconsciously desired to reach that place someday. I worked every day excluding Sundays and saved most of the fee they’re giving me for that. If you will ask me, for what reason, I weren’t able to provide you an answer because to be honest, I don’t either know. I saw a reflection of a pale maiden looking at me intently. Her hair is short, her face is cute, her lips are bitsy and only her pink tip tint gives color in it, her pair of eyes are small like of the Chinese and as dark as the sky at night, her long eyelashes are curvy, and the moles on her face are what you’ll never fail to notice. However, she has several marks of pimples all over her face and some huge dark circles around her eyes−evidences of hundreds of sleepless nights and tiring sobs. She isn’t novelty, she is just an ordinary, she is me.
I got back on my senses when the bus conductor yelled telling that we already reached our destination. The people went out of the vehicle carrying their baggage with them. I assume that they’re having their vacation, but it’ll sound ridiculous because it’s already July which is supposed to be time for labor. I carried my bags and went off the bus. My body welcomed the fieriness that the breeze of air is offering early in the morning. The blasting sounds of the water hitting the immense rocks of the ocean is like a lullaby from a loving mother that an infant is longing to hear for decades. The salty scent of the sea creatures tingles my nose. I smiled, for I know I am here. At last, I am finally here. I navigate towards the bluish piece of solace as the delineate visual of it in my visions simultaneously flashes in my mind. I realized that the paradise I’m staring at the present is more flabbergasting than of in my dreams. I sat on the pure white sand of the brine, relishing my own company. I wonder how and when do this desire of mine started. When I closed my eyes, the answer rapidly popped.
It was one Sunday morning when a blaring voice of a woman awakened me. Her voice was full of worries. It was easy for me to distinguish that it was my mother’s because I knew how she sounded very well. “Where did he come from? Is he alright?” my grandmother asked from the first floor.
“I…I have no idea. Hand me a bowl of cold water, please!” she retorted almost sounded like crying. I stayed silent in bed for a while for I cannot understand what was going on. However, anticipations are all over my head. I felt my chest heavies but still, I managed to be at ease and shake the bad ideas I’m having away. I heard my father crying and repeatedly uttering, “I’m sorry. I should have died instead.” Based from his voice, I knew he was badly wrecked.
Nica, my older sister came and sat beside me, she said, “The car was severely damaged.” There is a hint of grief on her tone, yet she is covering it with her most fabricated smile. I went down to check my father and the car. Gladly, it wasn’t that critical. My father got few wounds on the head, and several bruises on his arms and legs. However, that morning, marked my very first heartbreak. It was because, that day, I found out with my own eyes, the affair of my beloved father with an unknown lady.
The family where I belong to seems to be an epitome of perfection for many. We barely brag each other onto serious arguments, we set barricades to each member of the family lower than of the others, and we are used to be happy and genuine. But even the firmest post has to give up. I accepted the fact that there is no longer a way to repair and reconstruct this broken pillar. Maybe it can be rejuvenated but the stability can never be brought back.
“Hey, cutie! Can I sit beside you?” A stranger suddenly appeared from nowhere. He noticed my frowning face, so he continued to speak, "Hi, I am Danni. And you are?" I should have ignored this guy, but my inner self is saying he isn't bad. So, there's no way running away from him.
"Veronica." He smiled. His reaction is telling me that he already knows who I am, but I shook that thought away because I might probably be hallucinating.
"It's nice to finally be with you again, Veronica. It's been 10 years and nothing much has changed." He said.
That was my first time meeting him. Well, technically, it was not because I discovered that Danni and I are classmates during our primary school days. He was once a mama's boy who always got towel at her back and baby powder on the face and neck. He was the blithesome child sitting beside me for three consecutive years, I think. We used to be that close before not until we moved into another place.
"You left without proper farewell. I searched for you every day, but I didn't see any hints of you. Every day without you is darkness. For the long 10 years that we were apart, I'm hoping for your return. I felt hopeless to see you again. Now, that you're finally here by my side, I cannot afford to lose you one more time. I don't want to miss you again." His eyes were full of sincerity that afternoon when he was uttering those words. I am not aware of his feelings toward me, so I was a bit surprised with his confession. I don't know what to say or how to react. I stayed unspoken. I stared at his eyes, they are as brown as my favorite caramel coffee during rainy seasons. Those were once what I adored about him because aside from reminding me my favorite beverage, they mirror his soul. However, those eyes were what I abhorred the most as well. Those eyes became my greatest foe. It began when the sincerity of it vanished; lies underlies those eyes.
Our first year were pretty blissful. Though far from each other, we never failed to express our affection. We ensured to find time for us. Nevertheless, happiness seems to be ephemeral; misapprehension aroused. I felt like I was being taken for granted. I left; he chased me. I was too heartless, but I only did that because I foresee how our ending will be. Perchance, this is where I am credible at−overthinking then, creating my own ending.
Unconsciously, I headed toward my consolation. My body trembled as the glacial salty water slowly soaks me. I sluggishly shut my eyes, feeling the placidity that this paradise is giving. Perhaps, I have the same fate as of my mother's. Perhaps, I am not meant to meet the valiant one who has the audacity to save me out of this abyss. Perhaps, happiness is too much to ask. Perhaps, for me, happiness is unattainable. Perhaps, this is what I've been yearning for, all this time.
"I'm sorry, Veronica. I know I made something bad. I hurt you. I'm crying every night because of what I've done. I'm crying because I don't know if you still love me. What I only knew is that I'm going to lose you again. I don't want that to happen. Please tell me you still do love me. Please, stay with me. I'm still here, waiting for you. I love you." That was the last words I heard from him, the same exact words my father articulated to my awful mother. I promised to myself that that was the last time I'm ever getting a glimpse back of our story. This will be the last time I'll be remembering how the sun rises from the east amd how its light gorgeously complements the blue sky because now, together with the sun setting to the west, I am closing the book. Up until the end, I have written my own finale. This is my ending.
