#this one i do have context for#he's a prominent npc that was introduced as a mentor to the party but intended to be an eventual twist villain#but also the party changed him a lot and by the time his crimes were revealed he'd begun to care about them#and ended the story as a protagonist#he also never walks anywhere and uses magic to move around#so in the 40 episodes between his introduction and the villain reveal essek's disability was considered canon amongst the fans#the dm when asked if essek was canonically disabled said he thought about it but didn't want to play into the disabled villain stereotype#which is fair and valid#but now that essek's no longer a villain it's kind of a moot point#and essek is still disabled in the majority of fanworks (and most human/modern aus i've seen have him in a wheelchair)#disability showdown#round 0#essek thelyss#critical role
