I have talked about my process here and there but I'm generally all over the place about it KFHDSJGJDJSD

I used to plan out my color palettes back in 2020 since I wasn't that great at coloring (it was pretty painful for me..!! lots of my work looked bland bc of it) and I didn't really know how to draw backgrounds either so they were always an afterthought.

I blabbed a bit about how I learned how to jump over that hurdle in another ask!

Usually I have a hard time visualizing what I want to draw in my head, so unless I have a clear picture in mind, my sketches are definitely where I begin forming my ideas.

At this point in my art journey, I plan both the background and the character together so the finished piece looks more cohesive. Most of my coloring process by now is pretty intuitive since I can generally feel what colors work together and what doesn't, and I also edit my pieces with tone curve,gradient maps, and color balance if needed.

this was from an ask I got on twitter, but I think it's super relevant and the best explanation I was able to put into words, so I want to reshare here⤵️

"Generally when in the early stages of a piece, I start off with some limited and often very light pastel-like colors. I also keep shapes simple, just for the sake of planning my composition's direction.

As I render in details, I gradually bring in my more darker + saturated colors. I like to check the piece in black and white often to make sure there's a full range of values. This also helps to verify if the composition itself is clear and understandable even without the help of colors. Usually this is why many artists start in black and white and then bring in their colors, since it saves time in that area."

THE DUNE HOPPER first of all it's green so I like that, second of all I love being able to jump over all the dumbass marauder vehicles that try to ram you, third of all the way the car springs up in the air is done so well and gives me that swooping feeling in my stomach like you can really feel the weight of it and I just really love it 16. the only moment I remember genuinely shocking me was in Jak X when Mizo made his appearance lol I distinctly remember I gasped out loud. I'm pretty sure the "Damas is Jak's dad" reveal also shocked me but I can't remember the exact moment bc I was very small child 21. Which opening / ending is your favorite?

favourite opening is the first game's bc of how nostalgic it is :') I just love these games so much...and I think maybe the second game's ending was my favourite, it's so nice seeing Sig show up and everyone's just partying and drinking and all the problems seem far away just for a moment 22. the one that my sister and I quote at each other all the time is THE BARON TURNED OFF ALL THE WATER TO THE SLUMS and it always kills us so unofficially that is my favourite line...but tbh I also really like the intro Samos does for the very first game. "even the rocks do not recall" is so mystical to me...also "so it seems the answer begins not with careful research, or sensible thinking; nay! as with many of fate's mysteries, it begins with but a small act...of disobedience" makes me giddy bc the adventure is about to begin hehe 23. idk how popular of an opinion this is but I don't really think any of the boss battles are "tough", most missions in this series are pretty comfortable with just the right amount of difficulty so the boss battles are just fun without being super annoyingly hard! if you went back in time to ask ten-year-old me tho I would say the dark eco plant in the first game I was NOT happy about having to do that one lmao 24. 6. What is your favorite Sim age?

I don't know that I really have a favorite. I like them all. :)

I'll tell you what stage I wish I liked more, though: Toddlers. Without mods, there's just not much to them. At least with mods, they can interact with each other, and their older siblings can help take care of them, but without mods? Ugh. I'm still bummed at the lack of toddler/pet interactions. That was one of my favorite TS2 things, especially the way they'd maul the poor cats. I wish someone could mod that in. That would be awesome.

8. What is your favorite thing about the Sims?

Its sandbox nature, the fact that I can do anything with it, and that I can do different things with it depending on my mood, not just playing the game. Like, if I'm in a creative mood, I can make stuff for the game. Or if I'm in a building mood, I can do that. Or, I can just play. And it's flexible enough (at least with mods) that I can do pretty much anything I want with it, including weird scenarios that pop into my wacky brain. I used to think that TS3 was less flexible than TS2, so I didn't really play it for a long time, but then I figured out what it could do with mods, and then I got used to the open world, and...Well, here I am. For better or worse.

9. What is your least favorite thing about the Sims?

Error 12. Error 12 is a pain in the ass. I hate having to quit and restart regularly when playing a big world because the RAM usage is getting close to 3.2GB. Restarting's not so bad now that I have the game installed on an SSD, but still! I am hoping that one day EA will make a 64-bit TS3 for PC, but I ain't holding my breath. And even if they do make one, I will fully expect it to suck because I've heard that the 64-bit Mac version sucks.

24. How many hours of Sims do you think you have played?

Over the entire franchise, tens of thousands of hours, at the very least. I started playing TS2 in 2008, and I played it pretty religiously for a decade, sometimes for literally days at a time when I'd have an attack of menopause-driven insomnia.

When it comes to TS3 specifically, I know precisely how many hours I've had the game running because of Origin: 6470 hours, which is about 269 days, and the majority of that has been in the last 3 years or so. Yeah, I have no life. LOL Though in my defense, some of that is not really playing but testing stuff, and also I have a tendency to start the game and not play it, and then I forget that I started it (because old), so it'll sit open for a day or two before I go back to the computer and go "Oh! Ooops."
