It's hilarious to me how often I come up with plots that are just, at their root, Emmrich Volkarin is an oblivious Sugar Daddy. I know we've talked about this before, at length, but I cannot stop coming up with versions of this man where he looks a half-feral woman named Rook and says, "I am going to feed her so much good food and put gold on every part of her body and wrap her in the finest fabrics and then she will LET ME hold her hand. She will PERHAPS let me kiss her neck. I will shower her with gifts so that I am ALLOWED to fall asleep with my nose in her hair." And this is a sensible trade-off for him. Rich, powerful, possibly famous and literally all he wants is his garbage bride to love him back.
