"Simon..." you paused. For the last few weeks nothing was the same with you and Simon. It wasn't that he was gone all the time but just his demeanour wasn't the same. Most days you would come home to Simon in his Ghost balaclava and everyone knew what that meant. He was cold, or hostile then would come back hours later to apologize as Simon. You couldn't keep playing this game and once you offered a hand for help he refused. You were determined to make it work, but he wasn't.

"I'm not going to keep arguing..." you said clearly tired with all the bickering.

"It only took so long for you to give up on me" He argued, intentionally looking to egg you on.

"I'm not giving up Simon I'm just-"

"Your just what?!" You two were so happy before these last two weeks and it only made you wonder what went so wrong. What did you do? What didn't you do?  But not once did you say to yourself that it was just 'Simon being Simon'.

"I am done! I can't stand to not do something about how you've been acting! Just... please go." You said, tears welling into your waterline as he stared coldly into your eyes, his own trying to find some sense into the mistake he was making by leaving you in that living room alone a crying mess.

There was no doubt Simon missed you. He wanted to call you back, answer all those voicemails of your soft and trembling voice.

"I know, and I'm sorry for the messages. I'm trying because I miss you... if I didn't try to get ahold of you I think I'd feel pretty bad about myself. Simon... just know that I'm here when you need me. You can come back to me when you need me, whenever you're ready...Goodbye." 

You had sent that message three days ago and he would listen to it when he got the chance to be alone which was more often then usual now that you were gone. It was the same for you. You left voicemails after each call he didn't answer and each time you hoped just a al little bit that he would pick up the phone. He never did but you still hoped and had faith. He loved that about you. How you kept him happy and positive and how you two were one in the same. You can’t give that up, and he realized that now.

The ring if the door bell was heard in the other side of the door as Simons hand fell back to his side. He knew she cared, but what if it was too late for him to come back? How can he just let something, someone like her just leave?

The door opened and he looked up to the girl, removing his balaclava as you gave him a half smile, his eyes looking into yours waiting for you to give in and to which you did. You attached yourself to his torso hugging him in hopes he was really here to stay. He hugged back, resting his head on-top of yours as he gently caressed your back.

You gently let go of him as you held his hand pulling him inside.

You two wound up upstairs, your mouths like magnets. All he wanted was to be with you and vise-versa. He stopped though, letting you take a second to sit back. His hand held yours before he explained his reasoning.

“I don’t want you to think I only came back for the sex…let’s not tonight okay?” He said, his thumb gently gracing over the back of your hand. You smiled at him and kissed him once more.

“Okay” Not even devastated in the slightest, you fell back into his arms as he held you close to his own body. Neither of you needed to converse about what your place was with one another because you both knew it. Simon wanted to keep you safe at all costs, you were his main priority not even himself. You just wanted to make him feel like himself, let him enjoy his life without thinking of his past.

“I’m glad you came home” he looked down at you, swiping his fingers through your hair before pressing a kiss on your head

"Can you believe that fucking guy?" Billy said aloud. "Crossing me like that, in my house. Fuck 'im."

"Well, he was right." you said under your breath, going upstairs.

"What was that?" he snapped at you.

"You're drunk, Billy. Just shut up."

"No, no, you agree with that little punk?"

You turned around to face your husband. "Of course I do! You have no respect for me anymore Billy."

"Are you fucking Timmy or something, y/n?!"

You were shocked that he even thought that, that he even questioned it. Even though it was true. "What?! How is that even relevant to what we're talking about? This isn't about Timmy."

"But are you fucking him?!" Billy was shouting now.

You were getting to the point where you totally disliked this man you were married to, and you could barely stand the sight of him. You wanted to be with Timmy, it was true, but you wanted to be away from Billy just as much.

"I want a divorce! I want you out of my fucking house, Billy! I don't love you anymore."

When Billy moved out, you were glad to be rid of him, and to be a separated woman. But you missed Timmy terribly. It had been two days without any contact from him. You wanted him to have space. But you didn't want your relationship to end, especially when you didn't do anything wrong, not to Timmy anyway.

You grew more miserable by each hour that went by without a word from him. You knew he had Amelia, but you truly thought he cared for you too. You hoped he wasn't ghosting you. At the very least, you wanted closure. But if you were being totally honest, you just wanted Timmy. All for yourself.

Amelia loved Timothée Chalamet. Sure, the relationship between them was under contract, but by faking kisses, going on getaways, and attending fashion shows together, she fell in love over time. Timmy had a sense of humor and charm that could make anyone fall in love with him. They'd known each other for a while now and though they weren't romantic for real, they understood and respected each other.

Secretly, Amelia wanted to be with him, and not in a fake way. But she knew her feelings were unrequited. She could sense that Timmy cared for her and enjoyed her company at times, but she knew that she wasn't a priority in his life. She was more of an obligation that anything, that she knew.

It made her sad, but he had unknowingly cushioned the blow by giving her some of the most sensual and sexy nights of her life. They had a sort of friends with benefits situation going on. It didn't happen often. It was basically when Timmy wasn't in a real relationship, and he was lonely, or bored. But she didn't care if they were just booty calls, because it felt good to just be wanted by him. Even if it wasn't really real. Timmy was the only man she loved.

Lately though, Timmy had been even more distant than usual. They had become confidants in one another, and friends even. Now, he didn't ever talk to her. She invited him to dinner at her place, but he acted like he'd much rather be somewhere else. He'd said something about 'game night' at Billy and y/n's house, but he hadn't ever been so antsy to go to a game night before. It made her wonder what else was on his mind.

You couldn't believe it when you saw Timmy's name flashing on your phone screen. "I'm sorry," you told your coworkers, "it's important, I have to take this." To you, it was important enough to skip out on work to talk to him.

"Timmy?" you answered, your heart racing.

"Hey Peaches." he responded, cheerily.

You felt a sense of relief hearing him still using the nickname he'd given you.

“Hey, I’m sorry about what happened.”

“Baby, you have nothing to be sorry about. I’m sorry I haven’t called for a couple of days. I should have checked on you sooner. I didn’t mean anything by it, just got a lot of shit on my mind, ya know?”

“Yeah, it’s okay. I miss you, Timmy. Can I see you?” you asked.

“Yes. I miss you so much, I need to see you as soon as possible. The minute you get off work, I’ll pick you up. We’ll go somewhere.” his voice was so soft and endearing, like you were being cuddled and warmed up by each syllable.

"Okay. You promise? There's so much I want to say to you." You needed further assurance, probably because he'd been gone from you for what felt like such a long time. You didn't want to be without him again.

"Yes, of course I promise. You have my word, y/n. And my heart. You should know that."

You melted from the inside, "Oh, Timmy." you cooed, "I'll see you soon."

You practically ran out of the office at quitting time. And there he was, sitting in his car waiting for you. "Timmy!" you called to him.

He snapped his gaze over to you upon hearing your voice, and he got out of the car. He immediately took you into his arms, squeezing you tightly. "God, feels like forever." he groaned, resting his head on yours.

"I know. I'm so happy to see you." You said, loosening your hold on him to look in his eyes. "It's over with Billy. I kicked him out of the house and we're getting a divorce."

He nodded, "That's good! He's turned into such an asshole. He doesn't deserve you." He touched his nose to yours so sweetly, pulling you more snuggly against him.

"I know, it's been a long time coming. Even before...us. I should have kicked him out ages ago."

"Can I kiss you?" he asked, eyes lingering down to your lips just for a second before they returned to your eyes.

"Yes." you replied, closing your eyes as he leaned down, touching his lips to yours softly.

He pressed his lips against yours but kept the kiss chaste as you were standing on a public street, while it was still daylight. "I love your lips. They're my favorite thing. I could do this all day long." he smirked, kissing you again.

"Timmy." you gasped softly as he moved down, his lips traveling from your cheek to your neck. "Let's get out of here, okay?"

Timmy stopped kissing, "Yeah." He took you by the hand, leading you around the car and opening the door for you. "Do you want to get some dinner?" he asked you as he got into the driver seat.

"Yeah, that sounds great."

It was so lovely. He took you to a ritzy place that you couldn't afford. He spoiled you rotten. The meal had several courses and he insisted that you try a desert.

You talked about everything and nothing, and it felt so comfortable, so natural. This was the type of thing you were missing. You and Billy didn't spend quality time together. Billy didn't care to do that. But Timmy did. Timmy was enjoying your time together, indulging you in gourmet food and sweet conversation. Timmy held your hand across the table, and you played footsy underneath it.

It felt like you two were just a normal couple. As if one of you wasn't on the brink of divorce and the other didn't have a girlfriend.

It was dark when you left the restaurant. Timmy put his arm around you as you walked to his car. The streetlamps produced a yellow-orange hue that made his curls look fuzzy when it shined on them. The lighting also defined his high cheekbones in shadows, basically putting a spotlight on his perfect porcelain skin that was sprinkled with freckles.

You were in awe of this man that was so beautiful, inside and out. It saddened you to share him. You knew Amelia, not well, but she seemed like a nice person. As much as you hated yourself for it, you wished there was a way to make her disappear from his life completely.

Timmy kept one hand on the steering wheel, and the other on your thigh. "I love this, y/n."

"The feeling of my trousers?" you joked, giggling.

He smiled and chuckled, "No, dummy, just...being with you."

"Me too. I wish it could always be like this."

"Is this about Amelia? You never say anything about her."

Just popping in to say hi and check in on how you are doing? I’m really enjoying the pieces you have put forth for your febuwhump! There are all so good and leaving me wanting more and imagining what would happen next. I’m also loving how each piece features a different character I.e Dean, Jensen , or Beau. And especially Beau since we got to see so little of him so I’m enjoying all fics that expand on his character.

Couple of questions.

When ideas spark for a new fic with no specific character in mind. You know you want your reader to be this and dealing with that and have X Y Z happen but it doesn’t matter who is the character, my question is how do you pick. As in how do you decided to make it a Dean, AU Dean, Sam, Soilder boy etc? Do you just choose your favorite or brainstorm the world you want it happen in and then think the idea would fit if better if it was in a world with powers or spn-verse? (I hope that made sense)

Also who is your favorite non Jensen character to write for?

Lastly do you ever go back and just read your own fics for fun or simply to dive back in the world or are you the type of person who doesn’t like to read your own stuff? I find myself personally doing it a lot lately and it makes sense cause I wrote it bc I wanted it and was curious if others did the same.

Hi there! Things have been a little hectic lately! Overall things are good but work's been a wee bit nuts to put it mildly. I've been working late most nights this year (and last) but my boss told me to leave early today which was a win!

The febuwhump drabbles have been fun to work on! They're definitely snapshots in time that could easily keep going. There's one in particular that's not out yet that I think could draw a lot of interest for more 👀 I'm glad I'm able to jump around with the characters! It makes things a little harder which is a good thing to me since it makes me think.

For your first question of how I pick characters for stories, I try to let the plot drive the decision. If it's set in the SPN world, in cannon where the boys are hunters, I generally go with Dean because he's my favorite but also because I feel like I can write him better than say Sam. Now say it was a story about a superhero. Well let's say I've got AU Dean, AU Jensen and Soldier Boy as my options. Do I want the hero to be dark? Vulgar? Sensitive? Rich? Poor? How do I want the relationship with the reader to develop? Short answer is I ask myself a lot of questions in a short amount of time and branch down whatever path I think makes most sense. Sometimes where it really could be anyone, if I'm leaning towards someone in particular I'll pick them, or if I haven't written for them lately it'll go to them. It's a complicated answer but it really does change depending on the story!

Favorite non-Jensen character in the fanfic world to write for is Benny and Michael (I'm going to consider him separate even though he's Michael!Dean). Benny's one of my favorite side characters to throw into AU's you might notice. He's easily a good fit for a best friend character but has a certain...roughness to him that compliments Dean if that makes sense. If they do more SPN, I demand more Benny lol. As for Michael, I think he's a truly complicated character that is capable of both good and evil. When I wrote Wicked Game that was a big risk since it's a story focused so much on Michael. A reader is absent for a significant part of it even. But I just find the concept of the villain having a soft side so much fun (and writing that dark side too).

I do read my own stuff! Generally I do this with series more than one shots or imagines but I have my favorites I revisit with those too. I think all writers should re-read their stuff for fun. There's so much that's freeing when you're not being critical of the work but just enjoying it and it really helps you understand why readers might love something you think is awful. One of my favorite things is to see someone like or reblog a fic in my activity feed and then I get reacquainted with a story I completely forgot about! You're definitely not alone in re-reading!

Idia: The technology was first developed in the 1960s. CG and drone technology was not as advanced as it is today. So the cast and crew were actually climbing trees. And even the cameraman-focuser used his flying skills to take part in the shoot. But it was so bad! I was so nervous watching them. The height and strength of the film made my hands sweat! If it was so great on film at the time, the present will never be as good.

Riddle: I understand that when you experience something yourself, your knowledge deepens. I hope one day that will happen.

Idia: Well, with my piloting technique, it doesn't even make sense to start or try… It would take a lot of time and effort to get there any other way. So… 360° VR is the only way! Idia: No, the more you use them, the more they consume magic. It's true that the little fairies that like to clean up save energy, and the summoning procedure is simple, but… If all they have to do is pick up a few pieces of trash, they can be summoned with a simple push of a button. Hello 🤭💖 good to know I earned that title~ I have many suggestions- But I think I'll do a thorough answer beneath this paragraph- and base them on content and things~ But omg you're seeing them at the end of July!? I'm seeing them in New York in the middle of July! That's so cool that we're both getting to see them this year! I absolutely understand- Oh heck yeah- I only have seen clips of that but I'm glad you already have a slight start~ I wonder what you've learned so far 👀 But it's so sweet to know that you turned to me for this 🥺💖(this is gonna get really long and it's just because I cannot shut up about them even if I tried- I really hope this helps).

For me I really like Idol Human Theaters and always enjoy them. And I think that's a good place to start they helped me get to know them- It really shows you how funny they are. I really suggest going in order and I'll link that here ~ Personally my favorites are their Athletic one (Killing both the stage & Cloth P.E. Students) and their drinking one (What Happens On Daytime Get-Together).

Now if you lean more into scary content I def suggest Wings of Escape ep 1, & Episode 2 (tbh as a person who really can't take scares- it's only scary for the 1st 5 minutes) I spend the rest laughing- it's so silly- I go back to watch it all the time. For me, I really like knowing who the cowards are- as a coward myself :) (how I ended up biasing 2 noncowards idk-at least I bias one that is) Like Q- man is giddy over the scares and is so excited to go in- (His team is my favorite) But Ju Haknyeon is the coolest- he's the type of friend you want if you're going somewhere scary. Sunwoo is my representative in that escape room.

Now if you love mafia content (they have several) but like "high quality" The Boyz (1): The Convoyz (2) is sososo good- You get to see how they lie and trick and figure each other out. (I've never seen a group with no sense for mafia before them 😭 I love them sm) And then in the second episode you see them play by teams against each other and it really shows their team efforts!

Now this will be a longer one but The Boyz Come On! God Saeng 😭🥺 holds such a big and special place in my heart- it made me fall for each of their personalities even harder. Like Jacob drives so much like me and has sm fun and takes care of "the kiddos" while Sangyeon's car- everyone falls asleep cause he drives so gently. And when they all went to go to bed how they each talked 😭😭 It's so gentle- they have sm fun- (there is a part I hate just because of the producers but tbz themselves... oh yeah that's my soft spot) I really could go on about each member- but the way Juyeon volunteers for dishes- and how they cheer on each other for bowling (even on opposite teams)... Oh yeah I bawled my eyes out :)

My favorite content is one of the first contents of their own that watched was Deobi University (1): Vacation (2) ! It's so funny, but it's one of those contents when you watch it again with more knowledge about them that it truly becomes hilarious, so that's why it's at the bottom of the list. But the way they play around in the water, and everyone enjoys themselves- and the game they play inside the house!? (These little weirdos 🥺💖)

Now for regular content that isn't "funny" I really suggest if you want to know more about their hard work and dedication- (other than their kingdom & all that) there is Off The Boyz their behinds- I have one that I always watch and it's 2023 SBS performance behind one. It really shows their talents and there is a vv funny moment with Kevin (he looks like humpty dumpty for a second). The performance from that: Intro + Watch It 2023 Gayodaejeon (am I little salty about Juyeon not getting the spotlight when he prepared so hard for his part of the intro dance... yes, but that's besides the point- it is still beyond amazing) But there's also their Zeneration preparation for their tour last year- and you'll see how much hard work they put into it- like seeing Hyunjae trust the rest of them to catch him- and nail the Only One move after not doing it for so long was just incredible. And then Younghoon is the thumbnail with the kitty~

I saw the interactive map of Blest that you created (or had commissioned?) and it is very beautiful. At first I assumed that the technology in your story was similar to that which existed in real life (late 18th, early 19th centuries), baring things such as air-ships/glyphs and other magical devices. Yet viewing the pictures presented showed me a world that rivals or eclipses some of the existing tech in modern society. What era(s) would you place the technological advancements of Blest in?

Hi there, thanks for your question (and I'm so glad you made use of and enjoyed the map, it's my favorite resource for Blest)!

I've discussed the technology of Blest quite a lot, most recently here, here, and here, as well as on the Choice of Games forum thread for the game! The long and short of it, I'm extremely resistant to placing Blest's technological progression in any one era of Earth's, mainly because I believe that the existence of magic, supernatural powers, and past off-world imports and contamination vastly skews things, to the point where there is no true equivalent. The general "aesthetic" of the world is intended to be (as mentioned in the first link) sort of early fantasy steampunk mixed with the Stuart/Georgian era, with the tiniest smidge of Victorian stuff occasionally thrown in. You're correct that there are flashes of more advanced technology, especially what was developed by Mages before the Castigation, which was then destroyed, having Blest regress back to a kind of "dark age" before suddenly accelerating towards a new age of Norm innovation and enlightenment featuring steam and gas technology. So the answer is that it's really a mixed bag and can't solidly be placed in any of "our" centuries, if that makes any sense! Hope that helps!

I found your work a few months ago because of the Sandman fandom, and I LOVE your writing, and I hope you'll continue writing for dreamling. With that said, I will follow you from fandom to fandom because your fics are sublime, so in the event you start writing for BG3, I thought that I should learn a bit about the characters and I have been happily googling away. One thing I haven't been able to track down is why the Gale/Astarion paring is being called bloodweaver. Please enlighten me.

ToT Anon when I say this made me SO happy I cannot overstate it enough, this is incredibly flattering. I don't have any plans rn to stop writing Dreamling! I have to finish doing You're the One I Need, and I am working on something that I might use for the Big Bang! But yes, I am in a bit of a BG3 spiral rn lol. This game has been in early access for SO SO LONG, and I am really just glad that my (not quite ancient) PC can run it! I highly recommend it for people who are fans of: D&D, the Forgotten Realms novels/setting, high fantasy stories, turn-based tactics games, Dragon Age/Mass Effect, and anyone who enjoys incredible characters. Seriously, Larian Studios has done SUCH a good job with each character, I would die for any one of my companions.

Spoilers for the game below the cut! Nothing major, it's all stuff you learn in Act 1.

As for why Gale/Astarion is being called Bloodweave, it's because Astarion is a vampire, and Gale is a wizard. Magic in the Forgotten Realms setting (where the game takes place) is accessed through something called the Weave. it's been variably described as the "source" of magic and also the way that raw magic can be manipulated. Like a sheet of silk laid over water, magic-users can poke different spots to let little bits of water through, but if they poke too hard then it damages the Weave and you can't interact with magic in the same way.

Gale has a really SPECIFIC connection with the Weave because he used to be in a relationship with the goddess of magic, Mystra.

Surprising no one, Gale and Astarion both attracted me because they have the same rough personality types as Dreamling, lol. Astarion is deeply traumatized, vacillates between embracing his monstrous nature but also having a very deep sense of morality about very specific things, and has an absolutely heartbreaking backstory. A lot of Gale's personal quest revolves around him falling desperately in love with something MUCH bigger than him and doing everything he could to impress it...only to fall short, and be tossed aside in the process. He loves cats, he cooks, and he reads poetry. He's also incredibly arrogant about his own magical abilities and deeply, deeply depressed. (Literally, there's a point in Act III where you can be, if you're romancing him, asked what his greatest shame/deepest flaw is, and the correct answer is that he thinks he and everyone else would be better off if he were dead.

Honestly, ALL of the characters are incredible. Shadowheart and Lae'zel are another pairing I'm interested in writing if I get the urge. Both of them were basically raised in cults and they start out hating and not trusting each other, and grow to respect each other over the course of the game (depending on your actions).

There's a little something for everyone tbh.

I feel like this drabble isn't my best written, but I do like some of the scenes. So I hope you like it. And always feel free to send writing prompts by the way. I'm pretty much always open for them.

Otto had made and remade so many machines and devices. When times were slow, or repairs were not needed, it kept him from getting bored. Currently, Sprx and Chiro were looking at the most recent thing Otto had rebuilt.

"You made a motorcycle?" Sprx asked.

"Sure did! Actually, I've made and remade it twice, each with different little change." Otto said.

He shrugged slightly.

"I get bored sometimes." he finished.

"Why did you build it with wheels?" Chiro asked. "Isn't that out dated?" 

Otto nodded, running his fingers down the front wheel of the vehicle.

"Well, yeah. But I was just curious to see how it ran." Otto said. "And as out dated as it is, there is something neat about it."

Before anyone else could ask anymore questions, Gibson was passing by the workshop. Otto noticed, face lighting up at the sight of his boyfriend.

"Oh hey Gibson! Look what I made!" Otto called out.

Otto calling out to him got Gibson attention out of whatever it was he had been reading on the tablet. Entering the workshop he placed the tablet down and looked at the project that Otto was pointing out so excitedly. 

"You are going through your motorcycle phase still I see?" Gibson asked. "It looks good. I may be a little biases for various reasons. Was the blue color choice a specific reason or.."

Otto smiled, though did not offer answers on the color choice for the vehicle. 

"Glad you like it. I think it might be my last one. But... before I eventually break it down for the parts and use it for another project... want to go for a ride?" Otto asked.

Otto clearly was excited about the idea. Gibson looked to the motorcycle at the suggestion and thought a bit.

"I have been curious.." Gibson admitted.

Otto grinned wider. A tad too wide for this to be a completely on the spur of a moment question. Sprx and Chiro picked up on the fact that Otto was very much up to something. Casually, Chiro turned to the door and Sprx followed after him.

"We'll just leave you two to this then." Chiro said. "Me and Sprx have a video game challenge to get to."

"You're going down kid." Sprx said.

"We'll see about that." Chiro replied.

With Chiro and Sprx gone, Otto got onto the motorcycle. A beat of a moment later Gibson had climbed onto the motorcycle, sitting behind Otto. He hung onto Otto around the waist. Before Gibson knew it the motor on the vehicle sprang to life in a rumbling sound.

Reaching the streets of Shuggazoom, the motorcycle weaved through traffic. Enough that Gibson thought about covering his eyes. But that would mean taking his hands off of Otto. And he was not entirely sure if that would be a wise idea at these speeds. Instead he pressed his face into Otto's back.

Sensing Otto's tail wrapped around Gibson's waist. It was a soft gesture that brought both a smile and a safe feeling.

Otto would not let him fall off.

Feeling safer now, Gibson was able to enjoy the scenery moving. People and buildings passing by in speeds Gibson normally didn't have time to sit back and notice if he were going that fast.

He noticed when the buildings started to get a bit more sparse. It was still just as lovely to watch everything pass by. Eventually, they stopped at a part of the city, close to the out skirts, where there was a lovely set up waiting.

It was a picnic.

As the motorcycle slowed to a stop, Gibson spoke since there was no more roaring engine or wind to try and yell over.

"You've been planning this, haven't you?" Gibson asked.

Otto grinned.

"Maybe." 

Maybe very much meant yes. Off the motorcycle now and walking to the spread out blanket. Then they sat down. Just in the perfect spot to see the city from a better view. It was not a surprise that there was a lot of snacks in the picnic basket either. Not that they really spent a lot of the time eating. Eating was not currently the mood either was feeling.

It was getting closer to dusk, and Gibson was laying down, his head in Otto's lap. Gibson reached a hand up to place is against the side of Otto's face.

"I love you. Dearly." Gibson said, in this moment feeling so very soft.

Otto was feeling equally soft, put his hand on Gibson's hand as he looked down at him.

"I love you dearly too."

I'm glad my posts help with digesting the info in the game, and happy that you're enjoying Sumeru. I don't mind answering at all, just wanted a better sense of what you're looking for so that I can answer in a hopefully helpful way. I had a feeling character creation was part of it, so I'll try to tailor the answer with that in mind.

So, to your original question -- could someone go back and study in a different Darshan after graduating? -- I think that there is nothing explicitly prohibiting this in the game, but it's rather a question of what person would not only be able to do it, but also would willingly do so. For example, Alhaitham is likely more than able to study at the Akademiya again under another Darshan, but he does not. Alhaitham is also very lazy and does not do things if they don't bring him closer to maintaining a comfortable life on his own terms, and he didn't seem to like school much even though he was more than capable of the work, but let's leave that aside for the sake of the question. The point is that despite being capable, he does not return.

We know the Akademiya is a ton of work and that "average" students (who are all still very, very smart) are breaking down trying to publish papers that carve new intellectual ground, so I'd imagine the kind of person who would want to be in that setting again would have to have an extraordinary amount of willpower and drive, and probably academic goals for themself like to eventually become a Professor or a Sage. I'd also imagine that they'd not just love pursuing knowledge, but also pursuing knowledge in academic settings specifically. Maybe they'd especially like the process of writing research papers and find it exciting?

I missed the Sword Dude and his snark with Wen Ke Xing. He was the funniest character, but the kiddo is also improving his sense of snark too! He's dealing with so much trauma like a champ. I'm glad the protagonist afforded him the agency of choosing his future instead of shoehorning him into inheriting martial arts styles of ppl who actively hated him. I also love A'Xiang she's so energetic and cute and badass. Chaotic dumbass extreme and she's perfect for it!!!!

If the first episode of the show was like watching a bus driver winning a game of chicken with a pedestrian, that last arc was like watching a forest fire destroy several people's houses and a national park and then later seeing an interview about the forest fire arsonists' motivations as described by a retired former robotics world champion. And now we're finding out there are still arsonists (craving the sweet sweet cold embrace of a piece of glass) employed by the fire department! What are they doing in the fire department aside from sabotagint the rescue from within?????!? Oh??? the fire chief hired them specifically? DOn't like that. Very much do NOT like that.

As much as I love this show it can get heavy at times. It deals with intense themes, like life and death, passing the torch to students, greed and human desire, and the unfortunate power that comes with becoming a martial artist (in that randos could die at ur hand at any time & unless most other martial artists say "no that's bad actually" u will get away with it). I think our protagonist is right for wanting to know who he's getting involved with- he's waiting for the mask off moment so he can see his partner in his element, instead of acting a character for the martial artists like he's been doing this whole time. I was wrong in my earlier assumption for who he was btw. The reveal caught me out of left field.

I haven't read Lord Seventh yet, but it's been bumped up a few places on the to-read list for now. You're right, tenser should absolutely be a word if it isn't already! Chengling is the sweetest boy who has to grow so much in such a short period of time and I'd love nothing else than to give him a hug. He's dealing with so much but his new dads shifus are there to support him (even if Zhou Zishu pretends he doesn't care 😄). A'Xiang was my favourite character, she's way more than your typical "girlboss" martial artist and was never reduced to just one thing at a time- she can be loving, angry, protective, vengeful, she's so much!

Your fire departament metaphor made me laugh, the plot was catching up to our protagonists at the worst times and the state of the martial arts world (corruption, betrayal, oh my god why is everyone a huge liar) just goes to show how you can never trust a bunch of elitist people willing to sacrifice anything for more status. WOH resonates with a lot of people because it's unfortunately not so different to how our world is structured...

Lord Seventh is a little more heavy in politics (an understatement, there's lots of it) and scheming, but if you enjoy grey morality and defying the concept of fate through choosing love instead it's a great read! I'm the tranwomen in videogames anon. Thanks for the answer! I really thought about what you siad and it made sense to me. I can see the whole videogame industry filled with more drama and degeneracy due to the types of people it attracts, so I shouldn't mope about there not being enough women. Honestly, sometimes I read stories about women getting messages like "I'll fucking rape you and cut your throat you cunt" when they dont hide their sex... Like who would want to be in such a space? Sometimes I do enjoy watching videos about videogames and there are some pretty dope things and events, so I do get this wanting of there being a place for women in vg without drama or issues. But you're right. I'm glad there are women in other IT departaments successing and being able to even work from home.

Plus there have been sexual scandals in certain scenes, and even the non sexual scandals can be pretty wild. Just last week I was watching this video about this gamer bro who commited suicide and he literally blamed two other gamer bros for "giving him the final push he needed" in his farewell suicide video, all because they called him out for defending his incel white supremacist friend. Like I feel really bad he commited suicide, but it's extremely shitty to partially blame this two dudes because they covered the drama.

But yeah, I guess I can forget sometimes how nasty and rancid the gamer scene can be. I mean, they even get a lot of negative stereotypes associated with them both with normies and between the community itself. The best thing for women would be to not show their faces and try to build a mostly female audience focusing on games popular with girls and women.

And btw, Ive actually stumbled upon some videos that have some transwomen gamers in tournaments and so on and the comments... men can truly be ruthless. I'm honestly not ok with making fun of their appearance or their voices, or how they dress, I think it's low hanging fruit and simply bullying.

Transwomen are men so you better let men deal with their own issues by themselves. There are more to life than gaming breadtube and all their drama. IDK how old you are anon, but I don't know whether all of this will truly matter when you're 30... lol

Hi There!! I really enjoyed the first chapter of 'Alpha Beta Omega'. I can tell I'm going like this story...even though, imagining the imagery to the SNAPS! POPS! and CRACKS! made me cringe lmao. But although I did enjoy the reading, I will say i found myself having a hard time getting fully immersed due to the quatity of reading compared to the lack of choices. Which left me wondering...

Will there be more choices in the next updates to come or will your work be more Text/Reading involved? Also, when it comes to MC's personality; is it Fully/Semi- Locked or will we have control over it? I kinda like sadistic Mc, but I did notice the personality stat and was tad bit confused because it seems his personality is already set in stone. Cruel, Sadistic and Sarcastic. Oh! and maybe even a tad bit Arrogant if you ask me😂 I wasnt sure if that was because the choice I made to 'Make Them Suffer' or because that's the personality you personally envisioned for the character, which would make sense.

I'm glad that you're enjoying the game so far, so to answer your question. 'Alpha, Beta, Omega' will certainly have more options going forward. I'm even planning to go back and rework things a bit, However the opening mission really just serves as a kind of introduction to the MC's profession. The team, how they operate, as well as establishing the MC's main personality type.

As their main personality type will effect dialogue going forward, as well as their mindset, relationships etc. But don't worry, your main personality type chosen in Chapter 1 is not set in stone. You will have control over your MC's personality going forward, as each main personality type will be broken down into different archetypes.

I just simply wanted to establish a way for me as the writer to personalize the written content as best I could for each player. Which is where the main personality types come in, as it effects how the MC is perceived by others. As well as, their own monologue within the game.

However, I also didn't want that initial choice to be set in stone. Which is where the archetypes come in, my aim is to make my games as close to real life as I can possibly get. Whilst also making it fun, because in real life people are much more complex. Just because you're usually an outgoing person, doesn't mean that's a reflection of you as a whole.

Which is what I wanted to replicate, though mainly jotted down in my notes as the game is really still in the beginning stages. I'm new to coding, and still trying to find my footing whilst working and living with life's stresses. So please don't worry, there will be more choices going forward, and as much freedom of expression as I can possibly code for the MC.

hi there! there's a couple of reasons that this isn't possible... number one, scientists have sadly yet to invent infinite time so there's just some things that I don't quite have time to get around to, and number two, while I'm not an expert (since I'm alloromantic myself), I have definitely had aro friends who were committed to the idea of having a QPP who was the equivalent of a monogamous life partner.

that's obviously not true of all aro people, but it IS particularly true of Soillere, for example (Dassine also).

It became hard to breathe, the crowded space, the body that was dragged off, the mysterious voice that called your name. It was all too much, it was overwhelming, it was panic, it was all emotions wrapped into one and all you wanted to do was cry. It wasn’t some sick game, it was real life, this tomb had been haunted. Arthur had gone up ahead with a bit of the crew, leaving behind you and some others. Who had been killed, maybe this tomb took a liking to you, maybe that would be the way you thought of it, maybe? If it wasn’t for the voice so near crying out for you. It wouldn’t have overwhelmed you; it wouldn’t have taken all the others the same way. This was the last time you were going into a tomb; this was the last time you wanted to do this. You would go back to the community and work on dinners, or other things that had you in the sidelines. 

“(Y/n).” It sounded familiar this time, it sounded trustful this time. You peeked through one of your eyes to see if you were still there. You were in a room with bright lights, that’s the first thing that filled your senses. Then the realization of being at home kicked in, maybe it was just another horrible nightmare. You weren’t in bed; you were on the couch head in Arthur’s lap while he stroked his thumb over your hand. You knew it was real and you knew you were back in Arthur’s arms. That’s what mattered, and that let you feel free. 

“Arthur?” You question with tears in your eyes, sitting up so you could hug him. He looked at you, creasing the side of your face searching your eyes, he knew what you saw. He knew and he hated the fact that you had to see that. You were passed out before he found you, carried back to the truck by two of his right-hand men. He nodded his head unsure what to say, he wanted to ask if you were okay. You wanted to know if you were okay.

“I don’t want to do that again.” You spoke, breaking the silence that hugged the room. Arthur nodded; his eyes were soft. He wanted to just be, he wanted to feel that you were okay. 

“I understand that you don’t have too.” He spoke with a soft, comfortable tone. He was still trying to bring you down to Earth; he would do mostly anything that would help. 

“I don’t?” You expected him to put up at least a little bit of a fight, one that he wanted you by his side, not because he was jealous but because he was protective. If anything were to happen to you, he would blame himself.

“That’s fine, the community can use many people.” You smiled, shifting your weight to lay back into his lap. He looked back down at you, smiling, you were here with him. 

“Arthur?” You looked up at him once again, you were thankful for the time you had with him. You were thankful for his understanding and fair nature. He hummed his answer to you.

“Thank you.” You spoke, you were as close to Arthur as everything in the moment would allow, it was going to be a very soft night. Movies, baths, each other. That is all that matters, being able to have each other around despite everything else going on.

I've got a bit of an odd question, you've mentioned glove language a few times when writing Laurence and I was wondering if you had any resources/notes on it? So, this is the second version of this answer. The first one was shorter but much, much messier. I apparently had a lot to say on the topic. Thank you, anon, I’m glad you enjoy my fics (and enough to go looking into something from one of them)! The answer about resources is… uh, kinda.

Alright, so I’m gonna be upfront: these have citations, but the citations mean very little to me. I don’t have the academic grounding to speak to how accurate these are, and I’d ask you to treat this as a basis for hobby and fiction only. That being said, most sites talking about glove language are going to source one book from 1890: The Mystery of Love, Courtship and Marriage Explained by Henry J Wehman. (By the by, there are several guides to etiquette and manners from the Victorian period, and some of them are really funny.) If you want more detailed or vetted information about Victorians, I’d actually recommend jumping around the historical essay section of YouTube. Bernadette Banner has a lot of really cool videos on period clothing, just to start.

Some notes about how I approach writing details in Bloodborne:

Usually I’ll find out about something by accident, google it a while, make a few notes, and then run with something I think would be interesting. This isn’t the best way to go about it, and I’m certainly missing nuance and details by handling it like this, but it’s fun and it gives readers something to follow up on their own time if they care to.

With gloves, I’d encourage you to look into the variety of nonverbal languages the upper classes used to communicate in Victorian England (floriography, handkerchief, fan and glove flirtations are probably the most prominent) and consider how they might end up applied. Bloodborne being a Japanese game blends really nicely, since Japanese is also a fairly indirect language and culture, so meaning can be inferred by layering in details and context.

Some real life notes about gloves: gloves were expensive, historically, and the patterns and techniques to make them are guarded by guilds. Handmade gloves tend to be better quality and more expensive; you can tell if a glove is handsewn by checking the fingers. Pointed fingertips are handsewn gloves, while machine-sewn gloves are squared off. I tend to draw workman’s gloves with square tips even if them being handsewn would make more sense (Gehrman seems like he’d make his own gloves) for the rougher appearance it grants. Kid leather is a high-quality leather made from kids (young goats) that’s valued for being supple, thin, but reasonably durable. You can learn more about leather finish by looking at the wikipedia page for grades of leather. Kid leather gloves were a very expensive accesory, the sort of thing you’d expect to see at a ball. Cainhurst gloves are probably Kid leather. 

For the Victorians, a glove was a symbol of good breeding, and functioned both as a fashion accessory and a way to keep the hand clean and unmarred (as marred hands were considered a mark of… well, labour.) For the Church Doctors, the gloves also inoculate them against disease (Laurence please get that out of your mouth my god) and keep them from cutting their fingers on glass or rough materials. So you’ve got this intermingling of a social ideal (perfect smooth hands) and a functional one (not getting sick because you cut your finger) and then blend in questions of fashion and taste and, possibly, more functionality (colour, cut, decoration). On the note of decoration, Victorians had a lot of ways to make things look more expensive than they really were. Pearls made of paste, or paper-mache finished to look like gold, comes to mind. So it’s possible that people who want to have a rank in the Church but haven’t quite managed, are trying to dress up their gloves (or any part of their costume) to look more important than they are. So with that you might utilise subpar stitching, obvious or sloppy patch jobs, or decorations like fake pearl buttons. 

Also! Gloves are fitted! It’s easy to forget since we live in a world with one size fits all garments, but a glove would’ve been made for someone, usually — which means they aren’t interchangeable, and it’s obvious if someone is wearing poorly fitted or stolen gloves, because they don’t quite fit. This would also be an impediment to their work, as anyone who’s ever tried to do anything with badly fitting gloves on can attest.

Gloves might have started as something only worn by ranking members, or at least, the nice gloves (gauntlets aren’t cheap either, but they’re not specialised for delicate work the way I suspect the Choir gloves are), and trickled down to all but the poorest hunters later as they realised that the less skin a hunter exposed, the less likely they were to become afflicted. I’m very interested in the idea of Yharnam’s fashion trending towards covering up as the disease worsened, probably mirroring some real world trends in the process (for example, in North America, fashion silhouettes tended towards straight lines during the 1920’s at least in part because it was considered gauche to try to look curvy while the poor were starving to death). 

The Choir gloves aren’t actually tight in the game or the concept art, by the by. They’re loose, and fastened at the wrist with laces, making them adjustable. I haven’t seen laced gloves in a period reference, but it’s a very interesting detail; it would be more adjustable than buttons, though perhaps as likely to catch on things. It also echoes the lacing down the sleeves of the Choir robes, which is just nice from a design angle. 

Gloves came in more colours and styles than white and short/long. At one point, lavender day gloves were a thing for men to wear while visiting acquaintances. (The visiting is a whole other thing. If you don’t know about Victorian visiting, I highly recommend giving that a quick search. Calling cards for gentlemen were a thing, and some of them were really weird.)

A note that’s somewhat disconnected from the rest, but feels relevant: Victorians had a mourning period after the death of a family member, where all of a mourner’s clothing was expected to be dyed black, including gloves. (This was apparently achieved with a large vat of hot water, dye, and pushing the fabric around inside with a stick. I’m still fascinated by the concept.) And fashion in general was much slower in this period: people had mostly the same pieces of clothing from year to year, repairing them regularly and modifying them to keep up with current trends. Patch jobs would be another useful way of gauging a character’s status, since subtle or invisible mending is something that amateurs usually aren’t capable of managing. A well-maintained (or outright replaced) item speaks to the owner having some spending money. 

The Victorian period had a lot of really specific details that won’t necessarily make sense without historical grounding. I’ve felt like I’m trying to learn another language over the last two years from working on Bloodborne fic, to be totally honest with you, and it’s involved a lot of period literature, looking at fashion plates, listening to various videos on historical fashion… there’s a lot of resources if you know where to look, and I’ve barely scratched the surface. That being said, I’m less interested in the romanticism of the era and more of all the unpleasant things that their day to day culture thrived on (and was used to cover up). The gloves end up being a really nice way to talk about it: an expensive status symbol that protects the wearer from harm, and has probably come to have threatening connotations in the eyes of the populace. Can’t you just picture citizens shrinking back from the sight of black Church gloves?

All of this to say, minding a Hunter’s gloves is probably an excellent way of determining their general status. Compare a Choir member’s immaculate gloves to a wannabe cleric with amateur-sewn, slightly discoloured leather, and paste-pearl buttons trying to bluff their way through the Church, to a Workshop Hunter’s scabbed work gloves, to the ashy, oil-stained, reinforced gauntlets of a Charred Hunter. 

Hopefully there was something of use in there for you, anon. As a sign off: the Victorian period had veils as a fashion accessory for ladies, and those are totally applicable to Bloodborne as well. If you need clothing references, look up Harper’s Bazar fashion plates plus the year or decade you’re aiming for. This can be done for outfits or accessories. A lot of items in this period were homemade or modified; richer houses might buy all new accessories or clothes from the best shops, but middle-class houses were more likely to… well, buy one or two new items of middling quality and then modify them to look better, so far as I can find. Whether a glove was kept in good repair by house staff or the owner, or… not kept in repair at all, would tell you a lot. And paying attention to that sort of subtlety is at its heart how glove language functions anyway: looking for context cues to draw inferences before you choose to speak.

Going to close out again with, I am a hobby writer learning about this stuff on my own time. If you have something relevant to add, please feel free, but if you’re looking for definitely-historically-accurate information on the period, I would at most use this as a jump off point to search and verify things.
