So I've been wanting to share this for a while. You kinda introduced me to onf but... not yet? I heard about them from you and went looking for mvs to watch to see if I liked them. The first one I found was My Name Is... So I watched it and... never watched anything else of there's. Part of it was because I got busy and distracted and part of it was because it was kind of hilarious to me to judge them entirely on that mv. (My judgement was they seem like adorable dorks btw nothing mean! Its like they made their own introduction video like the ones on youtube) But I do want to give them a fair shot so I was wondering if you had suggestions on where to start in terms of mv and song recommendations? I tend to like heavier sounds and darker concepts (I listen to a bunch of krock groups and like Oneus and a.c.e) if that helps?
im glad you came to me!! no you're totally right, my name is on its own can be construed as a little cringe lol bc it totally is! in an endearing way! but when you add it with all their other concepts... it ties everything together nicely, i think. kind of proves that onf has a silly side, which is a nice addition to their previous stuff and rounds them out as a group that can do any concept.
ANYWAY... im so glad you came to me for a fair shot lol ill try to tailor my recommendations for you based on what you mentioned. ill also include some links bc im going to include some songs that arent title tracks or dont have music videos
when i think heavy sound/dark concept, their title track "why" immediately comes to mind. the dark synth is sexy yet nostalgic and personally the cinematography of the music makes it that much more appealing. arguably its their "darkest" concept. i recommend watching at LEAST one of their live stages, because... if you thought they could only be dorky... oof
i also must recommend we must love. im sure youve at least heard of this song, its their most well known song by far and is widely appreciated by the general public AND music critics. its instrumental is amazingly put together and while its not Noise Music(TM) its got fascinating synth and interesting pieces thrown throughout. there are also some really cool guitar riffs, since you mentioned k-rock.
i would like to recommend secret triangle (this is a live perf, theres also a studio ver) it's a bside that off team performed, but in my opinion its structure is similar to a lot of oneus songs and has a Bigger drop than their other songs. i dont mean louder drop, but bigger discrepancy from prechorus to chorus. and the ending definitely feels like a headbanger also wyatts rapping reminds me of ravn a bit lol
while onf doesnt have a lot of like... rly hard hitting songs w big bass drops etc like a.c.e they DO have dry ice and thats all they need. iconic song. also probably closest to Noise Music as youd get with onf. now partly i rec that live stage bc yuto looks GOOD and i am nothing but biased but also theres something about seeing the dance as well on time with the beat drop. delicious. the studio ver is good too for when you want to immerse yourself in the song
im also going to rec goosebumps bc while its not a full on dark concept, its just a fascinating sounding song and the dark beat in the background does make it feel a little dark. lets say it has the absolute potential to be a dark concept. also i think you'd appreciate the combo of lightson and MK's boom oh my god (at about 2:25)
going back to structure of oneus songs (where they have a longer bridge and/or a completely diff vibe in their bridge) i would also suggest new world. its their final song from road to kingdom and was put on the spin off album. btwwww the end totally feels like a rock song w the guitar riff.. so good
there are a few songs im just going to recommend in general and not give an explanation, bc im totally just guessing at this point but i think youd appreciate geppeto and yayaya.
as for songs everyone should listen to... i must promote the realist and beautiful beautiful as well bc i know my mutuals would be mad if i didnt. my favorite song of theirs (as well as top 5 fav kpop songs ever) is fly me to the moon.
i think ill end there, and ofc you dont have to listen to all these bc i might have gone a bit overboard lol but at the very least the first few i mentioned (we, we must love, dry ice etc). take your time and let me know how it goes! also, if you do end up wanting more info im always here. and i can also rec some of my mutuals too, i know we'd all be happy to welcome a new fan ^^
