no tattoos

warnings: drunk sophie, hints of nsfw talk, etc
______
Rafe picked up Sophie’s facetime call to be greeted by his excited girlfriend and her talking conversationally in Spanish, albeit a little stilted as her drunk brain tried translating back and forth.
“Sophie -”
“Estoy bebiendo, hemos encontrado este vino por la sangria -”
He laughed, shaking his head. “English, baby, please. Por favor.”
“Oh! Fuck, sorry. I’m not sober.” She immediately switched back, bringing a nearly empty cup to her lips as she took him back into her room to momentarily escape the loud party.
“I can tell. What’s up, just saying hi?”
“Yeah!” She shut the door behind her and lifted up her shirt a little. ”Baby! Baby, look.” She angled the camera toward her leg, keeping it on selfie mode and hopped on one foot trying to show it correctly.
Rafe held back a smile. “Flip the camera, Soph.”
“No, no, I got it, look.” The camera finally focused in on the purple pen outlining the eventual tattoo, the initials R.C. done in her terrible drunken scrawl. (Her handwriting was pretty poor normally, but her drunk handwriting was much worse.) It was right above her hipbone and at least five inches tall, not at all what she would typically go for with a first tattoo.
He choked back a laugh, eyes wide in disbelief. “Oh my fucking god.”
She grinned and turned the camera back to her face. “What do you think?”
“That’s not - Sophie, you didn’t -” he fumbled with his words, feeling a weird mix of horror and also being turned on that she’d even consider tattooing his initials onto her forever, even if she was drunk.
“No, no, I’m next.” She nearly tripped as she walked back into the kitchen, showing a group of her friends crowded around a table, one of them giving stick and poke tattoos with a practiced ease. The phone was set down and abandoned for a few minutes, but he could hear Sophie accepting another shot with a giggle, her words taking on a pronounced slur.
Rafe waited patiently, straining a little to listen to the conversation.
“Were you talking to your boyfriend?”
“Wait, the one that gave you the ring?”
Sophie laughed and he could picture her grin. “Yeah, I was talking to Rafe. I’m gonna get his initials.” She pulled up her shirt a little to show off the sloppy outline and the girls squealed, both equally as drunk as her. “Oh my god, you can’t.”
“Why not!” Sophie exclaimed.
“What if you break up?”
“Oh, we won’t.” She replied, self-assured. He grinned at that.
“So do you think you’ll marry him?”
There was a brief silence and more giggles and Rafe desperately wished he could see her face. Unbeknownst to him, she nodded with a grin then picked the phone back up, her face tinged pink.
“Hi! I forgot we were talking!” She took the phone back to her room to talk to him again. Sophie had a tendency of being spacey when she was drunk, often wandering off or just ending a conversation mid-sentence when she couldn’t remember the rest.
Rafe shook his head, trying his best not to laugh. “Sophie. Angel. Listen to me, very carefully, okay?”
She furrowed her brow. “Yes?”
“You cannot get that tattoo.”
She pouted, running her thumb over the ink and smearing it a little. “Why not?”
“Because, Soph. You’re hammered -”
“Am not! I can do a handstand, look, watch -”
“No no no, Soph, just listen to me, please -” he laughed, snapping to try and get her focus as she went to set the phone down and show off (he was a little concerned, especially because he wasn’t sure she could do a handstand sober). “Sophie Flint! Hey. Hey. Pay attention and listen. No tattoos.”
“You don’t like it.” She frowned, lip wobbling, and Rafe could feel the tears coming on. He paused, part endeared and part exasperated. “It’s - it’s not that, I just -”
“No, you hate it and you’re going to break up with me because you think I’m a bad artist and I could never open my own tattoo shop.” She sighed dramatically, a few stray tears spilling down her cheeks.
“Jesus, what did you drink?” He muttered to himself, shaking his head. “I’m not breaking up with you, baby.” He couldn’t help but laugh, utterly confused. “Has this been some long standing dream I’ve never heard of?”
“You’re laughing at me!” She cried out, rubbing the heels of her hands hard against her eyes. “I’m a great artist.”
“Oh my god.” Rafe muttered, grinning. “Yes, you are. Hey, how about you wait, and - um -”
He grabbed a piece of paper from his desk and held it up. “Look, I’ll draw you the tattoo, but you have to wait until you get it in the mail. So you can copy it right.” He pretended to write his initials onto the paper, knowing he had zero intention of sending it to her.
“Oh. You mean it?” She sniffled, her tears long forgotten.
“I mean it. Nothing to cry over, baby.”
She nodded, swiping the back of her hand over her eyes to get rid of her tears. “You promise to send it? So I can have you with me forever?”
He swore he melted at that statement alone. “That’s why you wanted it?”
“Yeah. And ‘cause I miss you.” She paused. “I miss your dick too, but I’m not gonna get that tattooed on me.”
He laughed loudly at that, shaking his head. “I think that’s a solid plan. No tattoos tonight, okay?”
“I’ll wait until you come out and we can both get each other’s. Oh!” Her face lit up and it was almost painful for him that she was so far away when she was in one of his favorite moods. “Yeah, Soph?”
“You could get my signature, on your letters! The S and the halo!”
He paused, thinking. “That’s not too bad.”
“No, it’d be perfect. I want it over your heart. So everyone knows you’re mine.” She declared, tracing her idea over her own heart to demonstrate.
“Okay. I’ll think about it. Go back to your party, angel, go have fun.” He urged, feeling better now that he’d talked her down from the tattoo ledge.
“No, I miss you, I wanna talk.” She flopped down onto her bed and propped her phone up, then wrapped her arms around her pillow. “Last night one of my roommates brought some guy home from the bar and it’s not fair. You should be here so I don’t have to get off on my own.”
Rafe grinned, shaking his head. “You’re trouble.”
“Am not.” She protested, then grinned. “Unless you want me to be. Then I can be trouble.”
“Keep your voice down, Soph.” He admonished, knowing she had a tendency of being loud when she was drunk. “Go drink some water for me.”
“No. You know what’s bullshit?” She fished around in her nightstand drawer, looking for something.
“What?”
“Ah!” She held up a small drawstring bag. “My vibrator died last week -”
“Jesus Christ, woman -”
“- and I can’t find a replacement anywhere online. The thing won’t charge here, I think I electrocuted it. Useless.” She tossed the bag across the bed, scowling.
He was clearly strained, rubbing his temples. “Can we go back? Since when have you had a vibrator?”
“Since, like, sophomore year.”
“And I didn’t know about this, why?”
She shrugged. “You never asked and I think I can probably count on my fingers how many times we had sex in my room last semester. What was I supposed to do, reach over and whip it out when we were fucking?”
He laughed at her brash words and dropped his head in his hands, shifting in his seat. “You’re going to be the death of me, I swear.”
Sophie waved her hand, ignoring his struggle. “Rafe, listen to me. That picture you posted with Colin, in the swim shorts, you’re holding the beer?”
“Yeah?”
“I’ve literally never wanted to get down on my knees more.”
He about choked, eyes going wide. “You can’t just say things like that without a warning, angel.”
“I’m serious -”
“I’m sure you are.” He laughed, trying his best to ignore her tank top slipping off her shoulder and the way she licked her lips.
“And when you come visit and we travel, I want to have sex in every country. Just so we can say we did.” She declared.
“We’re only going to be in three, Soph. Including Spain.” He countered, attempting to switch the conversation for his own sake.
She yawned, stretching, and her shirt slipped a little lower. “Okay, so we’ll just have to travel more together later. Fuck, I miss you.”
“You too, baby.” He heard her name being yelled out in the background and laughed, raising his eyebrows. “Do you need to go?”
“Prob’ly. More shots, you know how it goes.” She dragged herself up out of bed and glanced down at her shirt, sighing dramatically. “I gotta change, don’t I?”
“No, you look great. Go have fun, I love you.”
“No, no, I gotta change.” She insisted, pulling off her shirt with no hesitation and Rafe sucked in a breath, watching her hunt around through her laundry basket of clean clothes waiting to be folded. “You’re teasing.”
“I’m not teasing, I have a bra.” She snapped the strap for emphasis.
“You are teasing. I can see your underwear when you bend over, your skirt is short.” He laughed when she turned a little red and tugged it down. “You’re lying.”
“I’m not. They’re pink with little red hearts on them.” He grinned. “Adorable.”
“I’m not going to waste my good underwear when you’re not here.” She defended, then found the shirt she wanted. It was one of his from intramurals, with Cameron written out on the back. He held back a smirk when she tugged it on and it went to her thighs, her skirt barely peeking out under the hem. “Is this better?”
“Yeah, you look beautiful.” He smiled. “Go back to your party.” Rafe paused, adding, “Tell Mateo I said hi.”
“That’s weird, but alright.” She shrugged. “You be good, okay?”
“I don’t think you’re the one that should be telling me that.” He laughed, shaking his head. “Have fun. If you go out, text me when you’re home again.”
“Deal.” She blew him a kiss before waving and hanging up.

The Strings of My Heart [12] - Spilling Secrets
← Chapter 11 | Chapter 13 →
Pairing: Zoro x Jupiter
Genre: fluff, angst, f2l
Word Count: 2.1k
Warnings: mentions of alcohol and adoption
Summary: Zoro’s moved to sunny California for college to escape from the life of fame for a little while. But when he loses his violin case in the second week of school, he’s sure his college experience has just gone up in flames. What will he do when, despite all odds, his case is returned to him?
—————
Luna led Jupiter upstairs and down the hall to a bedroom. She opened the door, upsetting the vines hanging from the ceiling. Jupiter raised an eyebrow. This reminded her of how her brothers had turned the basement into a fort. Luna pushed back the vines to reveal a bedroom with two bunkbeds pushed up against the wall.
“Hi, Jupiter!” Ara greeted them. “Hi, Luna!”
“What are you guys up to?” Luna asked.
“Playing Apples to Apples,” Oliver replied.
“Aren’t you all a bit too young for that?”
“No. This version is for kids.”
Jupiter looked around the room. It was dark. The windows had been covered with some sort of blackout sheets, and two wooden boards were ‘hammered’ over the window, although it seemed more likely that they had been screwed on. There were rope ladders that clung to the sides of the bunk beds, and lamps that resembled lanterns were set around the room.
“Are you guys all staying here?” Jupiter asked.
“Ara, Ollie, Leo, and I are,” Jinsu replied.
Jupiter assumed that Leo was the half-Japanese boy seated next to Oliver. Jupiter had met Oliver earlier when he’d started climbing Zoro the second their grandpa had opened the door.
“Is Ann in here with you guys?”
Jupiter turned around. Zoro’s oldest aunt, Sophie, was standing behind them.
“Yep, she’s with Leo,” Luna replied.
“Oh, good. Can I cut in here a second? Kyler wants to go.” Sophie stepped between the girls, picking her two-year-old up off the ground.
“Are you picking me up in the morning?” Leo asked.
“I think Aunt Leah is bringing you home. She’s coming to get Ollie tomorrow afternoon, so she offered to bring you home.”
“Ok! See you tomorrow!” Leo stood up to give his mother a hug.
“Be good for Grammy and Grandpa.”
“Yes, ma’am!”
Jupiter smiled. She was glad she’d come.
◇◆◇◆◇
Zoro’s grandma had been quite insistent on giving the two of them separate rooms. She’d even made sure to put Zoro in the downstairs bedroom so that they wouldn’t be anywhere near each other, informing them that she didn’t need anymore great grandkids. Zoro had taken it in stride. It was clear he was used to this. Jupiter had turned red at the notion that they would’ve done anything like that at all.
Jupiter had walked downstairs at midnight to find Zoro’s grandma asleep on the couch and Jinsu and Ara in the kitchen eating cereal.
“What are you two doing up?”
“It’s dinnertime at home,” Ara replied.
Jupiter laughed. “Oh, that’s right. What kind of cereal is that?”
“Froot Loops. They aren’t very good back home, so we only eat them when we’re here.”
“What?” Jupiter laughed.
“They taste like cardboard,” Jinsu shrugged. “And Grammy won’t let us have pie during the night.”
“Well, I can see why. You two are already wide awake. Are Ollie and Leo asleep?”
“Yeah. They fell asleep two hours ago,” Ara replied. She grinned suddenly. “Zoro said you were his girlfriend earlier! Are you guys dating now?”
“Yes,” Jupiter replied, quickly pouring herself a glass of water to hide behind.
“Ooo! Hyeon was so excited! She said she’s gonna start planning your wedding!”
It took everything within Jupiter to not spit out the water she’d just drunk.
“Oh. She did?” Jupiter croaked.
“Yeah! I told her I’ll help her. I’ve never planned a wedding before.”
“Neither have I,” Jupiter admitted.
Ara grinned. “I think we should try to sleep now. Mama won’t be happy if she finds out we stayed up so late.”
Jinsu giggled as he carried his bowl to the counter. “See you in the morning, Jupiter!”
◇◆◇◆◇
“What’s got you smiling like that?”
Hyeon was quick to lock her phone and shove it underneath her. “Nothing.”
Luna raised an eyebrow. “Spill. Did you get a boyfriend?”
“No.”
Luna grinned. “You did!”
“No! I don’t have a boyfriend!” Hyeon glared at her. “What happened between you and Kohen anyways?”
“You and your brother have the same distraction tactics.”
“Huh?”
“Answering my questions about your relationship with questions about mine.”
When Hyeon answered that statement with a glare, Luna smiled.
“He didn’t want kids.”
“What? Really?”
“Yeah. I walked out on him when he told me that.”
“Why?”
“Because. I’ve wanted kids since I was little tiny. I can’t be with a guy who doesn’t share that dream with me. I thought he wanted kids when he said he wanted to meet Noah, but I guess I was wrong.”
“I’m sorry. That stinks.”
“Yep.”
The two of them lay there for a couple minutes before Luna climbed out of bed. Once she’d left the room, Hyeon pulled her phone back out. She sent a quick text to Jiwoo.
“Sorry. My cousin was asking who I was talking to.”
“It’s fine. Donam and I are at the at the skate park.”
Hyeon received a photo of the two of them smirking at the camera. She repressed a squeal by slapping her hand over her mouth. This was a really good picture of him.
“Haha. Will you be going to the beach without me too?”
“Yes of course. My uncle offered to take us out on his boat.”
“Not without me!!!”
“You’ll have to get back soon, then.”
“Three more weeks!”
“That’s too long. Come back sooner.”
“You know I can’t!”
“Too bad. We’ll be going boating without you then.”
Hyeon was about to respond when she heard the faint sound of someone puking. She sat up, abandoning her phone on the bed to go investigate. She found herself knocking on Luna’s bathroom door.
“Luna? Are you all right? Should I go get someone?”
Hyeon heard the faucet start running before the door swung open a few moments later. Luna grabbed Hyeon’s wrist and dragged her into the bathroom before shutting the door behind her.
“Are you ok?”
“I’m fine. Just…morning sickness.”
It took Hyeon a few moments to process the meaning of that sentence.
“You’re pregnant?” she whispered.
Luna nodded. “But you can’t tell anyone!”
“Does no one know?”
Luna shook her head.
“Not even Kohen?”
“I can’t tell him. He doesn’t want kids. He won’t care.”
“You don’t know that. You don’t know whyhe doesn’t want kids. Maybe he’d want a kid if it was handed to him. He wanted to meet Noah, right?”
Luna shook her head. “I can’t risk it.”
“Why not? Worst case scenario he says he doesn’t want the kid.”
“I can’t get my hopes up.”
Hyeon sighed. “Fine. You’re keeping the baby, then?”
Luna nodded. “I want a baby. Not like this, but I’ve been handed the opportunity to raise a kid myself this time. I’m not giving that up just because it was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“When will you tell everyone?”
“When I have to. I won’t start showing for three more months.”
“Oh…wow.” Hyeon blew out a breath. “Are you ok?”
“Yeah. I just wish I could take this back. Not have slept with him six weeks ago. I think I got pregnant two days before we broke up,” Luna sighed.
“Will your parents not figure out what’s up?”
Luna shrugged. “Probably not. It’s been six years since I was pregnant with Noah. I doubt they’ll recognize my symptoms. It’s not like they’ll see much of me either. I’ll be working.”
Hyeon nodded. She didn’t really know what to say. “Should we…go back to bed?”
“Yeah. Hopefully I can sleep through the night.”
◇◆◇◆◇
The next few weeks weren’t as crowded as the first night. For the most part, only the kids were at Zoro’s grandparents’ house constantly. Jupiter found herself at Luna’s house for a party one night. All of Zoro’s older cousins were there, along with a few of Luna’s friends.
“I’m fairly certain at least one of those drinks is alcoholic,” Hyeon commented as she leaned against the couch with Jupiter.
“Do you know which?”
“No. I saw someone bring a bottle of vodka in, and I think it was dumped into some punch.”
“Vodka? Jeez. I hope no one is driving themselves home.”
As if on cue, Zoro walked into the living room with a pinched expression on his face.
“Don’t drink the purple punch. It’s got something in it.”
Hyeon threw him a thumbs up before wandering off to find Luna. If anyone needed to be warned about the alcohol, it was her.
“Do her parents allow her to have these parties?” Jupiter asked.
“Oh, most definitely not. At least not like this. Honestly, I’m not even sure Luna is totally fine with this. I should probably take Jiho and Judah home. If I’d realized who she was inviting I would’ve told Mama and Aunt Jade not to let them come.”
“Will Hyeon be ok by herself?”
“I’m sure. Stay here. I’m gonna go find the boys and tell Hyeon we’re leaving.” He bent down to give her a kiss that was halfway on her cheek before wandering off.
Jupiter stood there, slightly confused. Had he done that purposely? Or was the small bit of alcohol he’d had getting to him? She made a mental note to insist on driving just in case because technically, he wasn’t supposed to be drinking alcohol at all.
◇◆◇◆◇
“Luna, I’m pretty sure one of the drinks has vodka in it. Zoro said one of them tasted off and I saw someone bring a bottle in.”
“You’re kidding. I told them no alcohol!” Luna groaned.
“Who are most of these people, anyways? I recognize Ocean and Penny, but that’s about it.”
“Penny wanted to have a party with a few of the kids from school. I didn’t think it would turn into this kind of party. I should probably start sending people home.”
“Yeah. I’d recommend not drinking any of the drinks just in case.”
Zoro appeared just about as soon as Luna walked away.
“Jupiter and I are taking the boys back. Call me if you need anything, ok?”
“You got it. Luna said she’s going to be trying to get everyone to leave, so hopefully the house will be empty soon.”
“All right.” Zoro patted her shoulder. “Stay safe. I’ll see you at dinner tomorrow.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll call Jiwoo if I can’t get ahold of you.”
“Of course you will,” Zoro shook his head.
◇◆◇◆◇
Somehow, Jupiter managed to land herself alone with Zoro’s grandma. She’d been trying her hardest not to be alone with anyone besides Zoro, but she’d failed. Zoro had decided that he suddenly needed to go golfing with his grandpa, and no one else had been home. So here Jupiter was, seated at the island, eating cookies. She got the feeling that Zoro’s grandma baked a lot.
“So, what’s your story? I know Zoro’s not going to give me all the details, so I want to hear it from you.”
“You mean…how we started dating?”
“All of it. How you met and how you started dating.”
“Oh,” Jupiter blushed and glanced down at her glass of milk. “Well, it’s not all that cute. I walked in on him playing his violin during the second week of school and he ran away. He left his violin case in the room, so I had to return it to him.” Jupiter laughed. “We became friends after that, somehow. He took me home with him for Christmas, and Hyeon basically told me she could tell he liked me.”
Zoro’s grandma laughed. “That sounds like something she’d do. How’d you two start dating, then?”
“We went to see my family in March. The two of us took my siblings to the Statue of Liberty.”
“That’s brave of you.”
Jupiter laughed. “You don’t even know. We took seven of them.”
The older woman’s eyes widened. “Oh, ok!”
“And when we got back to the car…” Jupiter flushed. “Zoro kissed me. I think that said it all for me.”
“Aw, how adorable. I’ve been wondering when he’d find a girl. The last girl he even talked about was one of his classmates when he was ten. She broke up with him within a week because he was too quiet.” She rolled her eyes. “This is why I tell people not to date until college. It’s just not worth it.”
Jupiter laughed. “Zoro’s my first boyfriend. I never had time to date before.”
“Ah! Well, you chose a good one. And if he ever doesn’t treat you well, call me. I’ll talk to him for you.”
Jupiter grinned. Maybe this afternoon wouldn’t be so bad.
