Oded Ezer Workshop - Day One
Exceptional Concept Exercise
choose one type of project from the options provided
develop concept proposal for the chosen type of project, using the basic steps demonstrated
think of a possible unique product that will be the outcome of such a project
here your ideas with other students to get their feedback and improve your proposal
find 1-3 related projects or references, that will help you to explain your ideas to others
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I chose to work from option number one: Political / Social Response Project
During his first talk Oded explained the importance of us understanding that when we create a project we are not speaking for our tutorial and what will please them, we’re not even speaking for ourselves, we are speaking of our generation. It was this thought process with sparked my first idea. A recent upsetting political issue which faces my generation is the proposal that students who do not pass their Maths and English GCSE first time will be banned from receiving a university student loan- making it practically impossible for them to attend university.
This proposal was allegedly coined in an attempt to prevent the further growth of the number of students taking quote on quote “Mickey Mouse” courses, which are courses the government perceive to be of lower value and have lower graduate employment rates. What defines a course as a Mickey Mouse degree varies and is incredibly subjective, and while creative / design courses are not explicitly put in this category, the government and known to place little value on creative degrees; so this issue hits very close to home for our university.
I have friends and coursemates who would not have been able to attend university had this rule been in place when we were applying. Creative courses especially tend to attract neurodivergent students and those more likely to have some form of learning disability as this is a huge part of what makes us creatives. However those who are less academically inclined and also more likely to struggle in traditional examinations. Therefore this new rule could have a detrimental knock on effect to creative courses and subsequently the creative industries.
Tumblr media
I had a few ideas for how I could talk about this issue. Following Oded’s formula what I needed was an authentic message. In relation to this issue the thing that stood out to me the most was the idea that the entire trajectory and possibilities of your future are determined by how you preform in a very traditional examination, of a subject which may not even be relevant to your future career, on some random hot May / June day, when you’re 16 years old.
This seems ridiculous to me. GCSE examination are a very one size fits all approach to measuring success in education, and fail to take into account the different ways people learn and our diverse range of skill and talents. This proposal essential essentially tells students that they will not be successful and are not worthy of higher education if they do not fit in the governments very specific mould of academic value. This also fails to consider the external factors that may effect how a student performs in their GCSE examinations. A perfectly fine student could be experiencing the loss of a family member, struggling through parents getting divorced, suffering with mental health issues as a result of pressure and all of these factors could impact how they do in their exams. Everyone has bad days where they struggle, especially under extreme stress, therefore it’s unfair that one day of your life should impact all your future options so heavily, especially at such a young age.
If you ask adults, graduates, or even current university students the majority will say the same thing- that GCSE results do not matter, and you will never be asked about them when going into the workplace especially once you’ve been through further and higher education. A lot of us don’t even remember all of our GCSE results just because they have such little relevance to our adult lives. Therefore it feels bizarre to put so much weight on these exams for students now. Giving GCSE results the power to determine so much means they will now be inescapable, branded on students like their cattle, following them and continuously impacting their future opportunities.
References:
I looked for references where people had created projects based on learning disabilities, neurodivergance, education and the governments impact on the education system. Most projects I found in relation to learning disabilities show the positives by highlighting famous people who have said disabilities such as the dyslexic sperm bank. This tends to always be the approach when discussing dyslexia and related disabilities, giving them an odd sort of celebrity endorsement- I can’t even tell you the number of times I was told Einstein had dyslexia after being diagnosed myself. Therefore I want to take a different approach with my messaging.
When crafting a proposal for the project Oded asks us for the area / field of design in which we specialise the most- for me I would probably consider this animation and motion design. This means my outcome would most likely need to be some form of video.
The directions I thought I could potentially take this is either:
showing the butterfly effect of how someone’s life would be effected had this rule be in place earlier, showing a narrative of how different things would be.
highlighting how ridiculous and unfair it is that a students entire future should be determined by their performance in one exam on one random hot May day when they’re 15/16 years old.
Either direction I envision a somewhat emotive short film for these ideas, which is something a bit different for me and sounds quite exciting.
I didn’t end up getting the chance to present this idea to Oded and the class as we ran out of time, however I’m still really happy with the idea and the process of this exercise was really helpful and enlightening.

Hey, could you elaborate on the Travail Personnel Encadré (TPE) a bit more? How is it structured? Do students choose the subject? In Switzerland we have a similar project for Gymnasium students.
Also what age are most students during their first year of lycée? Are the ES, L, and S students split geographically as well? Depending on what you want to “major” in here, you would go to a specific Gymnasium—I attended one that focused on languages/humanities.
Only asking because I feel like Marinette, Alya, Nino, and Adrien would study wildly different things.
Hi!
1/ The TPE was (before the réforme du lycée) a project where 2-4 students had to create a project that linked two subjects, in Première. Depending on the school, the topics were either imposed, or students could choose the ones they wanted, the limit being that at least one of them had to be one of the major subjects of their section (ES, L, S). The goal was to find a question that was relevant to both fields, and try to answer it by doing basic research (i.e. going through books, internet...).
The students worked on the project and met up with two teachers, one of each subject, at allocated times in the week, to show their progress and get guidance.
The end production was a written project, completed by an oral presentation. Those could take whatever form (within reason and practicality), so the written work could be a report, or an epistolary-style format that regrouped the gathered information, the oral presentation could be a standard presentation, a play... The more creative, the better! The final production was assessed by two teachers, one for each topic (and different from the "guiding" teachers, although their feedback was taken into account for the final grade).
There was also a little contemplative report to write about working autonomously and in a group, with an overview of challenges you encountered and how you overcame them.
2/ During their first year of lycée (so 2nde), the majority of students are 15 going on 16.
3/ ES, S and L students weren't split geographically; each lycée normally had all three available, although some had the reputation of being particularly good in one of the three. Students in different sections were however split when it came to classe principale/homeroom classes; unless there weren't enough people in a section to make up a full class, a homeroom class would only have students in one filière (and maximum 2 if not, so half of one and half of another), and people from different filières wouldn't really have classes together (except maybe languages, options and PE).
So Nino, Alya, Marinette and Adrien would probably be in the same school for lycée, too, but they probably wouldn't be in the same class if they're not in the same filière. They'd still be able to meet up in-between classes, and have lunch together if their timetables coincided.
Hope it helps!

Rehearsal (Peter Parker x Reader)
Summary: Peter and you have to rehearse a scene for your theatre class, which just so happens to have a kiss in it. (Gender neutral reader!)
Prompts: 1. “Why would you do this?” 22. “This is the part where you kiss me.”
Warnings: good old fashioned fluff
Note: Lol this one kinda got away from me. I used a random number generator to choose the prompts and only expected this to be like 800 words max but I ended up with over 2k so. but I really like what I ended up with so I hope y’all do too <3 mostly from Peter’s POV btw. oh and I tried to keep it gender neutral but it’s natural for me to write with a female reader so let me know if I accidentally left a few she’s/her’s in there.
Word Count: 2.1k
Masterlist
Peter Parker is a nerd. He’s good at science and math, which is why he’s attending Midtown School of Science and Technology. Despite the STEM focus the school has, there’s still a requirement for at least one art-related class in order to graduate. When Peter chose an entry level Theatre class, he hoped it would focus more on the study of famous plays than actually having to stand on a stage and act. Peter was very, very wrong. For the first assignment of the semester, students had to pair up and perform a short, dramatic piece. He had been paired with Y/N Y/L/N, who he had a minor crush on. Ok, major crush. After he and MJ broke up last year, he honestly didn’t think he’d find anyone else for a while. But then Y/N transferred to Midtown, and he was whipped right from the start.
“Look man, you gotta use this opportunity to make a move!” Peter and Ned were walking down the hallway between classes, Ned trying to convince Peter again that this was a great chance to finally tell Y/N how he feels. “Just look up some cute scene for the two of you to perform! It’ll be like when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie fell in love on set!”
“I’m pretty sure they broke up, Ned.”
“Whatever. The point stands.”
The pair approached their lockers, where you were waiting. You had a few papers in your hand, which held your attention until you noticed Peter in front of you.
“H-hey. What’s up?” Peter tried his best to contain his stutter, but couldn’t help it. Y/N just had that effect on him.
“Hey Pete, I, um, I found some potential scripts for us to use for our assignment. I thought you could look over them before we rehearse at mine on Friday? I like them all, so whichever you wanna go with is fine...although I did put a star next to my favorite piece.” You handed half of the papers you were holding to Peter, keeping copies of each script for yourself. Peter noticed that the copies you kept had already been highlighted and annotated, while his were straight from the printer. Except for the small star at the top of the first script in his stack. Before Peter could respond, the warning bell began to ring, signaling only a minute to get to your next class. “Just text me whichever one you want, and we can walk to my place after school tomorrow to rehearse.” You said this as you began to walk away, giving Peter and Ned a small wave before you turned around to race to your final class of the day.
~~~
Instead of paying attention to his teacher’s lecture during Chemistry, Peter spent the 50 minute period reading through the scripts you had chosen. Peter already knew he wanted to perform the script you liked, but he was nervous. Your favorite scene happened to be the only one which called for a kiss, but he didn’t know if he had the guts to go for it. He could easily choose either of the other scenes and call it a day, but...well, was this your way of making a move? Had you intentionally chosen the script with a kiss to find out if Peter liked you? Did you like him? Or did you just choose that one because you genuinely thought it was the best option?
The bell rang, interrupting Peter’s thoughts and signaling the end of the school day. Hopefully a few hours of swinging through the streets of New York would be enough to distract Peter from thinking about you all night. For once, Peter was actually hoping New York criminals would keep him busy.
~~~
When Peter slipped through the window of his bedroom, his thoughts were unsurprisingly still revolving around you. Despite a somewhat busy night - two muggings, an almost-car crash, and one lost little girl now safely back with her mother - He still hadn’t been able to come to a decision. Half an hour ago you had texted Peter asking if he had chosen a script yet, and he still hadn’t responded.
“Just go with the script they want, Pete. Even if Y/N doesn’t like you, at least you’ll get to kiss them.” He thought as he removed his skin-tight supersuit and changed into some sweats and a t-shirt. He grabbed his phone from the pocket of his backpack, and, after another minute or so of arguing with himself, finally began to type.
8:31 pm
Y/N:
hey pete, have you decided which script you wanna do yet?
9:06 pm
Peter:
Uh, yeah. I think the one you liked is the best.
9:08 pm
Y/N:
yesss, i was hoping you’d choose that one. i have great taste ;)
9:08 pm
Peter:
Haha, yeah, you do. We’ll rehearse tomorrow after school right?
9:10 pm
Y/N:
yup! i’ll meet you by your locker again :) see ya tomorrow pete
Peter decided to let the conversation end there. Honestly, he had no idea what to think. What does “I have great taste ;)” mean? Is that a reference to the kiss? Does this mean they like him? Or is it just a joke? Peter sent a screenshot of the conversation to Ned for help, but Ned being Ned wasn’t helpful at all.
9:15 pm
Ned:
Just. Make. A. Move.
9:16 pm
Ned:
Betty thinks you should make a move too.
Despite his confusion and nerves over tomorrow’s rehearsal, Peter managed to fall asleep at a reasonable time. Hopefully tomorrow he’d get the answers he was looking for.
~~~
Peter waited by his locker after the final bell rang. As the hallways began to clear, he noticed you making your way over to him.
“Sorry, I hope you weren’t waiting too long. My English class is basically all the way across the school.” You looked nervous. Is that good? Or bad? Have you been thinking about the kiss too?
“Y-you’re fine. I’ve only been here for like a minute.” That was a lie. Peter’s Chemistry class was just across the hall from his locker, but you didn’t need to know that. After he finished talking, you seemed to lose all sense of nerves.
“I guess it wasn’t me causing the nerves then…” Peter thought, his mood dropping a little.
“Oh good. Let’s get going then, my apartment is only a couple blocks from here.” And so you began the short walk to your place. You made some small talk on the way there, talking about your other classes instead of the one class you did share.
“You have Mrs. Jenson third period right? I have her during fifth. Maybe we can study together for her tests...I know the school year just started, but I can already tell she’ll make her tests unnecessarily evil.” You said as the both of you entered your building.
“That’s a good idea, I know someone who took her class last year and they said she always had essay questions. Not to mention 5 choices for multiple choice questions instead of the usual four.” Peter responded. As he spoke, they headed towards the elevator, and Y/N pressed the button, causing the doors to immediately open. After hitting the number 4 on the wall, the doors slowly began to close. Despite the unfortunate news he was sharing with Y/N, his voice had a hopeful tone to it; They want to hang out with him again. Sure, it’s just loose plans to study for a test sometime in the future, but hey, he’ll take it.
“Damn. History has never been my subject, so I’ll definitely need the extra study time. I can never remember all the important dates.” Your phone buzzed after that, causing you to glance down at it. As you responded to whoever had texted you, Peter was left to his thoughts when the elevator began to move. It wasn’t until the elevator doors opened and you stepped out that the conversation resumed. “That was my mom, guess she’s gonna be at work for a few more hours. We can order a pizza if you want, I’m not sure how long we’ll be rehearsing today.”
“Pizza, uhm,” Peter’s voice cracked, “Pizza sounds good.” Peter cursed to himself, but if you had noticed his voice cracking, you had the decency to ignore it. You pulled your keys from your backpack, and unlocked the second apartment on the floor.
“Cool, I’ll order something online. Pepperoni ok for you?” You asked as you walked into the apartment, holding the door open for Peter. Peter only nodded, not really trusting his voice for the moment. He took a second to look around the place as you closed the door behind him. When you came into his eyesight again, you were looking at your phone, presumably ordering the pizza. “Since my mom isn’t here we can rehearse in the living room, it’s just this way.” Peter followed you as you led him across the apartment, then sat on the couch. He tried to give you space as you continued punching in the pizza order. While you were busy, Peter opened his own backpack and pulled out the script you had agreed upon. Last night he had highlighted his lines, although luckily for this assignment the teacher had mentioned that memorization was optional. After all, the school year had just begun and it was a beginner’s class.
“Ok, pizza will be here in like half an hour. Now we can get to work!” You quickly pulled out your own script from your backpack, and turned to face Peter. “Do you wanna just read through it a few times, then once we’re used to it we could start working out the blocking?” You suggested.
“Y-yeah, sure, that works for me.” Peter was relieved at this option; read throughs meant he didn’t have to worry about the kiss yet. “Your character starts, right?”
And so the two of you began reading through the script. It was short, only a few pages, and featured someone on the day of their wedding, and the man who was trying to convince them to leave their fiance. At first, the reading was a little awkward, as neither of you had any experience in acting, but by the third or fourth time you had gone through the script together, both of you were feeling much more comfortable. Instead of sitting away from each other on opposite ends of the couch, you were close, the way your characters would be. The blocking had even begun to take shape naturally, so you and Peter stood for the fifth reading, walking around the room, trying your best to embody the characters as they argued. This time, as you approached the end of the script however, Peter’s nerves returned.
“Why would you do this? Just barging in here on my wedding day?” You said, trying to act as frustrated and confused as you felt your character would be.
“You and I both kn-know you don’t love him! You’ll never be happy with him!” Peter tried to keep his nerves in check, but he knew what was coming.
“And how do you know I’d be happier with you?” Following the stage directions indicated on your script, you stepped closer to Peter. Instead of continuing with the scene, Peter just stared at you, no longer looking at his script. “Uh, Pete?” He still didn’t respond. You were confused, until you looked back at the script. You weren’t sure how you had forgotten, after all, this is why you chose the scene in the first place. “Peter, this is the part where you kiss me” You said quietly. You had taken his choosing of this scene to mean he liked you too, but you weren’t sure. His eyes widened a little at your words though, which made your confidence drop. “O-or not, um, we could do a stage kiss, or you could just kiss my cheek, or we could just cut it complet-” Peter cut off your rambling by putting his hands on your cheek and bringing his lips to meet yours. You were shocked, but easily melted into the kiss. He was gentle as he kissed you, his nerves disappearing the second you kissed him back. After a while, you both separated from the kiss. Neither of you spoke for a minute, just staring at each other.
“U-um.. that was ok, right?” Peter whispered, as you were still pretty close to him. You only smiled, and gave him another short kiss as a response. Before you guys could do anything else, there was a knock at the door.
“Pizza!” Someone said loudly through the wood. Before you could make a move, Peter had grabbed his wallet and was already walking towards the front door.
“I’ll pay...after all, what kind of gentleman would I be if I let you pay on our first date?”
Germany and other languages
This is an unusual post for me because I always post about which Asian BL I lastly binged but since I wrote about my fascination for the Thai language two times this week, I figured, I'd write something about my native language and the country I'm living in.
I live in the western part of Germany, so I can only talk about life here. Germany is devided into 16 regions (or states) and every single one of them has its own government which works slightly different than the rest. Especially during the Covid pandemic, this symptom is shown pretty clearly because the rules variate from state to state. I feel like state is the wrong word here... but there's no translation for "Bundesländer".
In the comments under one of my last posts, someone said, learning a new language is easier if you've already learned a second one and that's true but mostly, other languages are very different from German. German is a complicated language and I often hear foreign speakers complaining about the grammar because the article "the" knows 6 different forms which variate very often and mostly even in one sentence alone. It's hard to keep track, even for Germans. Also, every noun starts with a capital letter and I found it challenging to stop writing nouns with a capital letter in English. The structure of sentences is much more variable and doesn't always follow the typical subject-verb-object rule. Often, the verb would be written at the very end and some verbs can be devided into 2 parts and one is behind the noun and the other behind the object. It's really weird. And there are simply sentences which are untranslatable because such grammar doesn't exist in English. For example "hätte gewesen sein können" would be "could've had been" but if you put the English words in the same order as the Germans, it simply doesn't work because it would be "could have had been be can" which is just bullsh*t.
I saw a few videos of people making fun of native English speakers because they don't even try to learn a second language. Here in Germany, the more languages, the better. They start with English in the first year of school, when you are six years old. So, I have always known English and can't imagine my life without it. It's a class I attend since I go to school and everybody has to attend it. So, I basically had English class for 12 years because English is the lingua franca and Germans strongly believe, you have to know it by heart. You don't have to necessarily write your final exams in English but many students do.
But English isn't the only language they teach us at school. In my sixth grade, I started learning French. I had to choose between French and Latin. There are many schools with more options or different laguages like Spanish but the classics are French and Latin. I didn't want to learn a dead language, so I chose French. You have to learn this third language at least for four years but I attended French class for five and then stopped because I was struggleing with writing a whole alaysis. That's also something, I know, the US doesn't do in the exams. American students just have to pick the right answer but here, in the exams of languages especially, we have to write a whole analysis which is very stressing because of the time limit.
So, as you can see, here in Germany, the government wants you to learn as much languages as possible. It's not a big deal to learn another language because you already learned two new ones. A third won't hurt. That's why many Germans actually know more than one language and I personally enjoy it quite much.
But this initiative of the government to make everybody learn English isn't very old. This is because Germany was once devided into two parts. The western part was called "BRD" and the eastern part was called "DDR". The "DDR" was controlled by the sovjet union, so they learned a bit Russian in school. In the "BRD" they taught English but not the way they do today. 1989 the wall deviding the country was broken down and the Germany as we know it today officially exists since 1990. In the 90s English was more and more established into the curriculum.
This is why many Germans, especially the ones who are older than 30, don't know English.
For me personally, English is like a second language. I can speak it fluently, write poems and I often think in English. When I watch something on Netflix or some other streaming platform, I watch it in English. I only watch movies and stuff in German, when I'm watching with my parents because they can't speak a word.
5 Simple Tips to Learn JavaScript Effectively and Fast
If you have been learning JavaScript or web development in general but still, you feel like you are not good enough on the subject. Or maybe you are finding it hard to retain all of your learning or even applying them. This article is for you.
You probably have heard about this phrase:
To be a better developer, you must do many projects.
Well, if only it’s that easy. Especially for beginners who do not know how projects work!
This article takes away your fears and uncovers what you should and should not be doing to learn JavaScript in a much faster and effective way.
Before we get to the actual tips, let’s revisit how we learn.
The general approach to learning JavaScript or other programming languages is either you go from the top to bottom or the reverse.
What do I mean?
Some of us learn the fundamentals of a subject before proceeding to the next phase. Likewise, some others learn by creating a complete project (while following a step-by-step video or guide) without knowing the fundamentals.
While each of these methods has its pros and cons, we will not discuss that in this article. It’s fine if either of the methods works for you.
However, here, I will show you the simple tips, if followed rigorously will not only fast track your learning, but also help you retain what you have learned.
Good. Let’s go to the first tip.
Set a goal and pick what to learn
JavaScript is broad with a lot of branches. For this, it is ideal that you pick one tech and leave out other technologies outside of that.
But if you are just getting started, making this decision would be tough because it is hard to figure out where to start. In this case, you’ll need to follow a well-structured curriculum. More on that later.
The emphasis here is to learn to choose a JavaScript tech and focus on that ALONE.
How? JavaScript, as you may know, is used both in the client-side (i.e frontend) and also as a server-side programming language in the backend. And each of these sides has different technologies associated with them.
In the frontend, for instance, we use Vanilla JavaScript (which is a plain JavaScript without the addition of libraries), JavaScript frontend frameworks like React, Angular, Vue etc. Likewise, In the backend, we use a type of JavaScript called Node.js and its Express.js framework.
As you can see, there are a lot of things to learn.
So in order not to get overwhelmed and bored easily, you should only focus on one thing and leave out all other things outside of that.
Now, here comes the question, where should you start from?
This takes us to the next tip.
Follow a well-structured curriculum
Always avoid learning anything that comes your way. You have to follow a structured syllabus. If you attend a boot camp, you’d most likely follow a standard curriculum while learning. But being a self-taught developer, it’s your duty to find a standard structure to guide you through.
This ensures that you are not leaving out anything you should know on the subject.
One of my favorite methods is to take a look at the freeCodeCamp. They have a well-defined structure you can follow to be on the right path. If you want to take it further, you can also look at some of the online learning platforms like Udemy or Coursera for a structured syllabus. Mind you, the essence of this step is to have something to guide you throughout your learning. Once you have a structured curriculum, get started and learn.
But… don’t get stuck in the tutorial hell. What do I mean? Let’s find out in the next tip.
Start with the fundamentals but don’t do an endless tutorial (simply get started with projects)
This step is very crucial as it decides your learning curve. You don’t want to be carried away with the lots of tutorials out there because you may get stuck in the tutorial hell if not careful.
This is a strange place where you unconsciously do lots of tutorials especially on a subject and never stop. You discover that no matter what, you always feel you are not good enough to start a real-world project.
Trust me, I’ve been there. So try to avoid it as the pit is so deep.
What is the way out?
Never read more than two materials or course on a subject (a good one is better). The essence is to understand the fundamentals. Once you do, discard it as soon as possible and start learning the rest on the job through projects.
Mind you, at the very beginning – i.e while studying the fundamentals, learn in such a way that you implement every bit of information you read. In other words, you must not proceed unless you put the knowledge into practice.
Now, you have a grasp of the basics. What next?
Start building stuff even if nothing works at first. You’ll discover that you learn more in the process than you would by following tutorials.
Though, it’s kind of scary because you might feel you are not good enough to start a project. Trust me, you are good to go. Just take the bold step and you will never regret it.
You can start by finding an open-source project on GitHub; scrutinize the source code to see how things are connected. This has a whole lot of benefit as you’ll get to see how every topics and sub-topics are connected to form a complete solution/ project.
This way, you get to appreciate what you have been learning. Thus having the urge to learn more. From there, you can start to think of a feature you can code. Start coding by writing what you know and get stuck. That is expected!
Next, you’d need to find your way out.
Knowing how to search for solutions
Trust me, if you spend years upon years following tutorials either by watching videos or reading guides, you will still come across problems if you are working on projects.
knowing how to come up with solutions is one of the great skills you’d need.
As said earlier, it is expected you get stuck while working on projects. So it’s your responsibility to find a solution to any problem you encountered.
Most of the time, Google and Stack Overflow are your friends. But you should always start with Google and see the options you have. You’ll be amazed how much knowledge you easily acquire doing this.
Get used to reading the documentation
Have you ever asked yourself that “why is so and so, so good in what they do”? The secret is that most of them get used to reading the documentation and as such have a grasp of the subject matter.
Just like every product comes with a manual, dev technologies and frameworks comes with their documentation. Though, it might be technical especially for beginners which is very understandable. But trust me, the earlier you are comfortable reading the doc, the better you are getting to the pick of your dev journey.
The advantage here is that you’ll get firsthand information from the creator which increases your knowledge and confidence on the subject.
Conclusion
Sometimes during your journey as a developer, you might have wondered if what you are doing is worth it. This is because it’s taken more time than you think to get things done. It’s completely normal. Don’t give up. Be yourself and learn at your own pace but be consistent.
Always remember, once you understand the basics, jump straight to applying your learning through projects. Never wait until you accumulate enough knowledge.
In addition, if you can find a code buddy, please do to keep yourself motivated.
I hope you find these simple tips useful? Endeavor to share around the web. And if you have any tips you know that works for you, do share with us through the comment section.
Online Coaching vs Offline Coaching for CAT Preparation
Tumblr media
CAT(Common Admission Test) is understood to be the Mother of all MBA Entrance Exams! Right? There are some things in life where we are saying that the Journey is more beautiful than the destination itself and CAT preparation is certainly one of them. this is often to not say that securing admission into a Top B-School of the country is a smaller amount beautiful but preparing for it's altogether a special experience and actually a life-changing proportion. If you're a significant CAT aspirant, you undergo a 180-degree transformation in your personality and outlook towards the bulk of things and life as an entire . While preparing, a candidate not only grapples with the tutorial aspects but also hits multiple crests and troughs as far as other aspects like motivation, perseverance, direction, confidence, etc are concerned. And this is often exactly where he needs someone to carry his hand and help him breeze through the storm. And we at, Stalwart Career Institute, believe that this is often exactly what our role is! There are nowadays, countless options for anyone who is looking to organize for CAT. actually with the supply of high-speed internet within the sort of 4G and increased penetration of cheap broadband services, there's a flurry of “Trainers” who are “Masters in their subjects”. There are numerous YouTube channels where they share half-baked knowledge and lots of students fall during this trap of Free Learning. They later realize this harsh reality of life that nothing good comes for free of charge and anything that's available for reasonable is reasonable due to some solid reasons. So, a student must be very careful while trusting someone for his potential life-changing journey.
A good source should first-of-all be a comprehensive one in order that some time and energy of managing and cope up with multiple sources/trainers is minimized. tons of scholars , due to improper guidance and direction, place an excessive amount of specialise in the Quantitative Aptitude (QA) Section of the CAT and easily ignore the remainder of the 2 sections. this is often exactly what these so-called trainers want because there's tons of magic which will be shown in QA as compared to a topic like Verbal Ability which comes along side a mesmerised audience which successively results in increased Ad-Revenue; getting the point? Please confine mind that there's a sectional stop criteria altogether the highest B-Schools. you would like to try to to equally good altogether the sections and not just QA! At Stalwart, we've a team of experts and not just “an expert” who has been training students for several years now. the foremost important thing that we glance for during a person while Faculty recruitment is that the “Passion for Teaching”. there's no space for a person who is teaching only for the sake for it or let say may be a fresh graduate who is trying to find some part-time money while preparing for an exam himself! you'll find trainers of those profiles in abundance everywhere but not at Stalwart. If there's one thing that we will guarantee, then that has got to be passionate teachers needless to say .
A classic dilemma: Offline/ Online Coaching?
While both the formats Offline Coaching/ Online Coaching have their own merits and demerits, which format suits a candidate better is really more hooked in to the personality of the candidate himself. So shred that herd-mentality now and be a far better judge of your own.
Online: it's getting very fashionable during this era of digitalisation. It saves your travelling time, is cheaper than offline coaching, you'll study from the comfort of your home, watch recordings as repeatedly as desired and therefore the list goes on. it's definitely a really good option for working professionals. it's also a really good option for those students who are disciplined in their approach and that they need little or no hand-holding. We at Stalwart offer a bouquet of online courses. Special care has been taken into consideration while designing these courses that the modules must contain that personally connect with the scholar that's often and early losses within the online format. therefore the sessions are curated specifically in such a fashion that a student will certainly not miss that touch and can feel that he's a neighborhood of a true classroom. this is often clubbed with the “Online FCH” that's Faculty Contact Hours where any student can connect with the school and obtain their doubts solved within the real-time, a bit like classroom doubt solving sessions. Moreover, these sessions are Personal interactions, which may be a one-on-one mode of dialogue . during this way, a student choosing online learning doesn't lags behind and constant interaction with the schools also provide that holding hand which is so severely missed in most of the web learning modules of other institutes.
One alternative to Dedicated Online/ Offline coaching for CAT preparation is Hybrid Learning. this is often the amalgamation of the merits of both the formats wherein some components of the module are provided during a n offline environment while others in a digital format. this is often best for those that aren't at solace with only the digital format. While boasting of all the advantages of a comprehensive Classroom Training Programme like direct and constant interaction with the schools , a conducive environment for peer learning, group studies, etc, it also clubs the advantages of the web module just like the convenience of watching the concepts as repeatedly as desired, getting the video solutions to the questions, test-taking from the convenience of home, etc. We at Stalwart offer a Hybrid learning program that gives all the above-mentioned benefits. during this module, a student attends classroom sessions, doubt solving sessions, enjoys interaction with classmates on a daily basis. Also, he's given the concept video sessions along side many other tests and assignments within the digital format on the Prep Buddy portal.
One more thing that's important in preparation is that the aspect of organised and structured learning. Too many students commit this same mistake of not following a disciplined and well thought of approach for his or her studies. The Ad-Hoc approach doesn't assist you crack an entrance examination of CAT’s cadre. this is often what we had in mind while giving shape to our preparation module. it's been divided into three stages:
The Concept Stage: We assume that a student is ranging from scratch as far as his comfort level with any subject cares . the schools even help students memorising the tables, helping them the way to read newspapers and other very basic stuff in order that even a student with not so great fundamentals can easily catch up with the remainder of the competition. during this Stage, all the concepts are covered intimately but at a really basic level. to measure the training , a student is required to finish the “Foundation Tests” on the Prep Buddy portal of Stalwart Career Institute.
The Booster Stage: As the name suggests, it is now time to give a boost to your studies with this module. In this stage, a student is exposed to the advanced difficulty level questions and we try to incorporate maximum possible question variations so that the thinking horizon of the student is widened. Students are required to complete two categories of tests with this stage: “Catalyst Tests” and “Challenge Problems” so that they are able to better judge their own learning curve.
Pro CATs: It is the last stage where students appear for the Online Test Series “Pro CATs”. It is taken by thousands of students every year which enables a student to benchmark his current preparation status with his competitors. Each test is followed by a comprehensive analysis and various types of growth reports are present on the student portal to help him gauge his progress.Along with this, to ensure that a student follow a strict schedule, each session is coupled with the “Pre - Session” part i.e. what all has to be covered before attending a particular session and the “Post - Session” part i.e. what has to be solved after that session.
Hypnovember Day 12: Stage
Somehow this story refused to be short. Even this version with all its’ extraneous details  is abbreviated. Based lightly on the biography of one of my favorite hypnotists. Very lightly edited- may do another read through tomorrow am. Feel free to point out mistakes.
Curtain up on a handsome young man attending university in the 90s.
Brandon took a deep breath and looked at himself in the mirror. He could do this. He'd actually learned to enjoy the stage fright these past few months he'd been performing. It felt electric and helpful- a little reminder that he was alive.
He ran through his old confidence trick of imagining that he was Paul McKenna. He'd seen McKenna perform once  back in first year. He was magnetic on stage- mesmerizing the audience well before he had even formally hypnotized anyone. As a shy, awkward, closeted kid,  Brandon had admired how confident the hypnotist was. He held effortless sway over his volunteers and his audience. Brandon had wanted to be like that- feel that in control of something.
So Brandon began to teach himself hypnosis. The library had some books and he had some friends who were kind enough to let him try things out. Somewhere along the way, Brandon had gotten really good. One night after work at his bar job, he had even managed to hypnotize the owner’s girlfriend. She was a fun natural subject and they had worked really well together. The owner had been so impressed that he asked if Brandon ever did stage hypnosis. When Brandon said yes (a small white lie), the owner had offered him a slot for a show every other Tuesday night.
After the first month or so, doing stage hypnosis started to feel really great. Brandon had a routine and he mostly stuck to it, but the volunteers reacted differently enough that the show felt new every time. Brandon felt connected to his volunteers. And even though what they were doing was inherently silly, it was also magical and exciting and fascinating.
Brandon stepped out on the small stage and began his pre-talk. Like the rest of the show, It was a variation on the same old speech every week (one of the regulars at the bar counter always rolled his eyes when Brandon began) but the routine gave Brandon enough extra brain space to scan the crowd and take notes for himself. A ginger girl looked really engaged and was laughing at all the jokes right on time- she might be a good volunteer. A man in a hat had kind of slowly blinked when Brandon said "sleep" earlier- that could be a good sign. Or he might already be too drunk, Brandon thought, judging the number of  beer glasses Brandon saw under him. Many audience members tonight seemed open and engaged. That would probably give Brandon a good selection of volunteers...
And then he walked in.
Brandon saw the guy from the campus GLBT club last week. The one Brandon had finally forced himself to go to. (Brandon had been frantically trying not to think about sex and sexuality issues for years, but this year he had finally started privately using “the g word” in his own mind when labeling himself.) Actually going to the club had felt really awkward until he began talking with a friendly guy there named Scott. Scott had drawn him out- asked him about himself and his interests. Scott told him a bit about his life too- he talked about being the only gay guy on the rugby team and how he had won the  other players’ respect.
Scott had an easy laugh and an easy charm. Brandon had certainly felt charmed by him. Maybe a bit too charmed.  Brandon felt the zing of a crush beginning to start. He wasn’t sure he was ready for that yet, though. Brandon had not mentioned the hypnosis thing to Scott- it felt weird and personal and he had already half-convinced himself that he was being creepy in response to Scott’s platonic friendliness. He didn’t want to scare him off.
He had never expected to see him here.
Scott smiled and waved at Brandon. It took everything Brandon had to keep his pre-talk speech going on autopilot. All of a sudden, he felt very exposed and very known. Like Scott had walked in on him masturbating or something.
Focus.
Brandon tripped up a little bit on the magnetic fingers test, but no one in the audience seemed to notice. He had a few people who seemed to be responding really well so far. (He studiously did not to look over at Scott.) Brandon channeled his enthusiasm into his volunteer call "So if you're ready to have the best time of all tonight, go ahead and come up on the stage!"
A few people came up- Brandon sold volunteering some more while trying to make eye contact with a few more possibles. It was always good to give himself options. He verbally encouraged volunteers to find and  sit in the hypnotic chairs behind him. When he finally felt like enough people had volunteered, Brandon turned around
He saw Scott sitting directly behind him, smiling up at him expectanly.
Fuck.
Professionalism, Scott remembered. He kept on with his routine, doing some basic relaxation steps and then starting at the beginning of the line of volunteers with a series of quick inductions.
He got to Scott.
Scott was already looking spacey. He looked up at Brandon in the most open, trusting way.
Brandon felt something in him stir.
NO. He thought. Focus.
He took Scott’s hand in his and started his induction.
“Push on my hand.” Scott’s hand felt warm and rough against his.
“Harder” He looked so sexy when he was concentrating.
“Harder” He smelled so good.
“Now- SLEEP!”
As Brandon pulled his hand quickly away, Scott just..collapsed. Like a puppet with his strings cut. His eyes had rolled back and they had already started moving a bit under the lids. Scott’s mouth was hanging open. He looked debauched and so open and so gone...
NO.
NO NO NO
Focus
Brandon needed to stop himself. Thinking on his feet, he course corrected. “Let’s have a round of applause for all of our volunteers! Now- since we have so many excellent subjects up here, let’s say we make it just a ladies night tonight. We’ll use all and only female volunteers. What do you all think about that?!”
The crowd cheered in enthusiasm. Thank goodness. Brandon woke up all of his male volunteers and continued the show.
Crisis averted.
Scott came up after the show to shake Brandon’s hand and talk to him. Brandon somehow managed to touch Scott’s hand again and not blush, even with that strings-cutting moment still vivid in his head. Scott asked if Brandon wanted to meet him for a pint but Brandon declined, citing exhaustion.  He already felt bad enough for lusting after Scott during the show- if he let his guard down Scott might notice something was off. He needed to go and sort himself out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brandon  decided to give  going to the GLBT club a miss that next week. He had been fantasizing about Scott all week- his big trusting eyes, his slack expression, what he could have made Scott do while he was under his power. He felt ashamed to actually go face him with those thoughts running through his head. Brandon took a walk and had a cold shower that night instead.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scott was in the front row when Brandon began his next stage hypnosis show.
He had brought friends.
The group of girls, who had obviously already had a bit to drink, were cheering and rowdy. They weren't rambunctious enough to get kicked out, but they were certainly enough to rile the rest of the crowd up.
Brandon gave the first part of his pretalk then launched into his magnetic fingers routine. He decided to experiment and turn it into a bit of a group induction, continuing on into an arm levitation on the fly. After a few minutes of patter, he asked people to open their eyes and see how high their arms had gotten. A few people had arms that were floating a foot or two off their legs.
Scott’s arm was floating up at his head.
It looked like he was raising his hand.
Scott looked up at his arm with a kind of distant, happy surprise.
Brandon chose a few audience members to come on the stage who had experienced some success with the exercise. He purposely did not choose Scott. No need to put himself through that again.
He was just getting ready to put the last chair away when he heard:
“Scott! Scott!”
One of the drunk girls.
“Scott! Scott!”
Now all of the drunk girls.
“Scott! Scott!”
Then the rest of the audience, laughing a bit as Scott cheekily waved at them.
Brandon swallowed and steeled his nerves. “Scott, would you like to come up?”
The audience roared in response.
-----------------------------------
Brandon managed to keep his shit together through the beginning of the show and a few basic skits- pretending shoes were puppies (Scott made the most adorable faces), playing an imaginary piano (he had...agile fingers), and name amnesia (that confused look, though).
 Brandon went right into the next skit.
“OK when I wake you up in a moment, you’re going to imagine you’re at the top of a tall mountain and it’s freezing up there- you’ll imagine that you’re so totally cold and every time I say the word cold it gets colder, every time I say the word cold you get colder...”
Scott was already shivering, doing brilliantly. So was the blonde in the red shirt.
Brandon woke them up, verbally encouraging their shivers and teeth chattering. The volunteers huddled together for warmth. Scott ran his hands quickly up and down the blonde girl’s arms to warm her up.
“And now, “ Brandon said, “the cold’s gone away and you realize that you’re not on the mountain at all! You’re in a hot place! You’re in the desert and the sun’s coming up and it’s getting hotter and hotter...”
Brandon kept his patter going on autopilot as he watched the group react, looking for what reactions to encourage. The blonde was fanning herself. The bald guy was going a bit red. And Scott-
Scott was taking his shirt off.
The drunk girls yelled encouragement from the audience.
Scott’s hands worked to throw his shirt over his head. Time seemed to slow. Brandon could see the muscles in Scott’s chest. He was sweating.
Brandon stopped dead in his tracks for a moment.
Scott moved his hands to his belt buckle.
Brandon raised his voice “And NOW the temperature is normal again. Normal comfortable temperature. And you can go ahead and stop what you’re doing and sit back in your seat, that's right..”
------------------------------------
Brandon fled the stage as soon as the show was over. He made an excuse of needing to use the toilet. He stayed in there for 10 minutes to calm his nerves.
Scott was waiting for him when he came out.
Brandon made another excuse of checking on the other volunteers and left.
30 minutes later, Scott was still at the bar. Waiting.
Resigned and secretly pleased, Brandon walked over.
“Hey Svengali!” Scott said with a smile. “Did you like having me under your spell?” He winked playfully.
Brandon laughed awkwardly. Suddenly he was all out of words.
Scott came closer. “Seriously, though, that was a lot of fun. I felt really relaxed and playful. Being hypnotized feels really zen, y’know?”
Brandon found his voice, “Yeah, you’re a really talented subject. You’re really creative and imaginative and..willing.” Brandon looked down, his own words making him shy.
Scott’s mouth quirked at that last word. “Brandon, I don’t want to freak you out  but- I’ve spent the last hour and a half focused on you. Really focused. And I was paying attention to what you said but,” he looked Brandon in the eye, “I could kind of tell you were focused on me too. Intensely.”
Brandon turned red. “I..I’m sorry, you must think I’m so creepy, I..”
Scott stopped him. “No Brandon, you don't get it. I wanted to be focused on you. I’ve wanted it ever since the club really- but especially since I saw your last show. Watching it kind of...helped me understand some things about myself. What I wanted.  And I wanted you to notice me too. Why do you think I wore this shirt tonight?” He smiles teasingly. “I remembered your show last week. I knew I’d have the excuse to take it off for you. Did you like what you saw?”
Brandon nodded his head.
Scott nodded back, understanding. “You liked watching me take my shirt off. And I think you liked watching me be hypnotized, too. Following your commands. Acting under your spell.”
Brandon blushed at his quiet, involuntary moan.
 Scott looked at Brandon’s with gentle compassion. He held Brandon’s hand in his for a moment and put a piece of paper in it. “I know you’re newly out and i don’t want to pressure you. I like you a lot, though, and, well- I think we have a lot in common. We’re...compatible, in a way. So if you ever want to hang out some time or go out or y’know, stay in together...” he squeezed Brandon’s hand and let go “...give me a call”.
Scott looked Brandon in the eyes one more time, then walked away.
-----------------------------------------------------
Brandon angsted over the number for exactly one day.
On Wednesday night, he picked up the phone.
“Hey Scott? Hey, It’s Brandon. Listen, I’m working on some new ideas for my show. Would you like to come over and help me test them? Maybe on Friday?  I’ll make you dinner.”
It was a start.
the other day, I was discussing with @the-mirador about how there was one section in The Golden Compass that I had a lot of thoughts & feelings about during rereading, and wanted to get to at further length than I could really do with just a phone keyboard. having a feeling this would a) be really goddamn long and b) be of interest to other people as well, I decided to just write a public post! so - slightly belatedly, here’s James Rants About The Dialogue Between Lee Scoresby and Serafina Pekkala.
(disclaimer: while I have vague recollections of the subsequent two books in the trilogy, emphasis here on the word vague. some of what I’m saying here may be addressed or dealt with by material from Subtle Knife or Amber Spyglass that I don’t remember right now. this is entirely a “reactions to TGC without knowledge of what comes next” post.)
this dialogue starts out with Lee asking Serafina whether it’s likely the people in his balloon are going to be attacked further if they continue on their current course of action, because going into outright war wasn’t the expedition he signed up and was paid for, and specifically armed conflict would likely do damage to his balloon - his means of making a living, which he’d have to repair on his own dime without the usual reimbursement of wartime pay.
Serafina, to answer this, starts talking about how well, actually everybody is already engaged in war whether they know it or not; she also a bit later explains how choices in the way Lee talks about mean less to witches because they live for hundreds of years and “know that every opportunity will come again”. additionally, contrasting with Lee’s concern with whether he’s charged enough for his transport contracts to make up his expenses, she talks about how witches “have different needs” from humans and so aren’t concerned with profit and value, having “no means of exchange apart from mutual aid” - because all they need to do to fly is take a branch from an abundantly present tree (instead of making all manner of costly repairs to a piece of technology), and they have no need for warm clothing because they don’t feel the cold.
and honestly? this pisses me right the fuck off. I don’t even necessarily disagree with the larger points Serafina is making about how everyone is bound up in the events happening in their time and can’t just push away their involvement because oh I didn’t choose to get into a war - no, you didn’t, but it’s what’s happening and burying your head in the sand in response is going to have consequences just as actively participating would. but g-d do I find it desperately obnoxious when a person or group who operates on a different scale of concern from day-to-day people (or their relevant contextual stand-in), voices this “wise”, implicitly narratively valorised point of view that the regular person’s mundane, venal concerns like how to make a living, whether they’re being given enough information to go into a situation with some amount of agency, whether they’re being taken advantage of and then hung out to dry or not, are shortsighted and petty and immaterial in the face of Destiny TM.
I mean maybe this is just that I’m an adult now who pays fucking rent and not a kid going starry-eyed at the invocation of the concept of witches, but boy did reading Lee Scoresby’s perspective here give me a massive “ahahaha well I guess I sure am American, aren’t I” sense of fuckor.
(but also? big-picture concerns and day-to-day livability concerns aren’t mutually exclusive. it’s come up repeatedly in pieces of Torah and Talmud study groups I’ve attended, places where Jewish law and discussion express ethical living, holiness, in the minutiae of legal arguments over water rights, how to properly materially compensate a person for the loss of a resource they use to live! doing right by others is a matter of learning about these kinds of details, because they have dramatic impacts on the quality of life of people all around you. these things are what make a society good to live in.)
second point that pisses me off: the idea of mutual aid arising only from beings of a different nature from humans entirely, who don’t need to deal with such pesky things as limited time and resource scarcity and bodies subject to the elements, of course not~ like fuck. give me the mutual aid that is a struggle. give me the mutual aid of people who understand the difficulty and the costs and care, desperately, how they can figure out the best way to equitably distribute limited time and resources to the people who need them, in frail and fragile and limited mortal bodies. I don’t want this kind of utopianism in the original sense of the word, where you need to escape the nature of humans’ present conditions of existence to get to an otherwise nonexistent place. Mutual Aid in the initial Kropotkin discussion is about a strategy of cooperation in and amongst the natural world, a method of survival among humans and other animals that are still entirely subject to these weaknesses that witches are not. don’t make it into a way of living that’s wise and superior and unreachable.
....oh, and speaking of human nature, another part that made me want to scream a lot, in the subsequent conversation between Serafina and Lyra: Serafina talks about how there was a time when she would have traded her existence as a witch to be with Farder Coram as a human wife, though it’s impossible because “you cannot change what you are, only what you do”. or: a reinforcement of the narrative’s turning up its nose at Iofur Raknison who wishes to interact with humans on human terms, and forsakes “innate bear-ness” for a ~sad pale mockery of humanness that leaves him and his following less than either proper human or bear. because that’s the damn thing: if you can’t change your nature, and you can either embrace your nature or refuse it and become less than, then no, you don’t actually have the opportunity to change what you do! it’s either “be what you’re supposed to or else you’ll just suck I guess”. (Lee Scoresby frames things in terms of free will which I don’t agree with because I’m a dang materialist bastard, but motherfuck am I ragefully on his side here on the topic of “let people have an actual choice!”)
like, this is my real 100% ride-or-die position on this: fuck “whatever your fundamental nature is”. do mad science! learn how to take a bear and turn him into a human if that’s what he wants! (don’t fucking set up a disgusting hierarchy of “humans are the best and any other sentients will at best be tolerated with tittering amused snobbery while we manipulate them for our own gain“ so that the desire to become a human is fundamentally a coerced one; don’t set up a dang child-mutilation compound out in the tundra to avoid getting slapped on the wrist by your IRB. but y’know, besides that shit.) if a person wants to change something about who or what they are - setting aside discussions of societal coercion that don’t present each option as equally viable because that’s a whole big and important thing but it’s not the point I’m making here - then in abstraction before we get to questions about the repercussions in other parts of We Live In A Society, it is a good thing to look for a way to help them do it. I’m a transhumanist. fuck nature, fuck destiny, fuck limits.
so, I don’t know. perhaps you can make the case that nobody here is an unbiased narrator supported by the story itself; these are just perspectives about what is right that are shaped invariably by the fact that in this universe for the time being, destiny and fate and immutable natures do exist, and basically every culture most of the characters come from has instilled into them, you’ve just gotta make your peace with that. I don’t think I agree with that argument, which is a large part of why these parts of the story make me as angry as they do; there doesn’t seem to be thusfar any indication that fighting against the determinism of “your nature” is particularly admirable. (I say this even in the context of Lord Asriel’s last speech to Mrs. Coulter, honestly, because in this metaphysical reality that he accepts where Adam and Eve and original sin are real things, the idea of humans free from sin doesn’t seem impossible by nature, only by history and the tyranny of decisions made by people and institutions.)
anyway, I think that’s about it for now. so in conclusion, fuck this noise, fuck that noise, this metaphysical-narrative stance makes me angry, and good night! :D
Essay Prompt: Name The Founding Father You Believed Was Most Influential in Shaping The Government
Most Influential Founding Father: Patrick Henry
Introduction
The constitution was signed on September 17th of the year 1787 in Pennsylvania. It was ratified on December 7th by five out of the nine states needed to bind it. It was February of 1788 when the states who opposed it made a deal to agree to ratify the document only if amendments would be proposed to address the concerns of the protection of basic political rights. The government finally began to run under the new constitution in March of 1789 and amendments followed soon after. Various men were a part of the revolution which led to creating this document and implementing it into American society, these men we refer to as “The Founding Fathers.” The Founding Father I believe had the most impact on shaping our government was Patrick Henry for several reasons based on his contributions during that period.
Contributions and Their Significance on Government and Society
 “Give me liberty or give me death is a well-known line from Patrick Henry” (History.com, 2019). Henry can be described as a prominent figure during the revolution that always stood up for what he believed in. That example of his character alone would have an influence on others around him that also contributed to shaping the government as we know it. During the revolution, he was known for speaking up to Great Britain, and he also pushed greatly for the addition of the Bill of Rights to the Constitution. Henry did not agree with the constitution originally so he believed the Bill of Rights would address some of the issues with the constitution alone. Although the constitution was the basis for establishing an order to society, I think that those who opposed letting it be the only set of guidelines are the people who prevented the power from only lying in the hands of a couple of voices that would have caused issues later down the line. Overall, Henry is known for being the one to “fire up” the country to fight for the society they wanted to live in, while also allowing a line of power to help guide the citizens into a new way of living.
 Another contribution that Henry brought to the formation of our government was that he was not just a politician, but he was also a lawyer. “His first major legal case was the Parson’s Cause that took place in 1763 and was considered one of the first legal attempts to challenge the power that England held over the American colonies” (History.com, 2018). This case was one of the beginning legal aspects of what began the fight for freedom and eventually shaped the signing of the constitution and the amendments that followed since. Henry also contributed using his legal expertise by pushing for a stance against the taxation caused by the stamp act. According to History.com and their explanation of Patrick Henry’s history, in the speech to address the taxation issues Henry exclaimed that the king of England would be subjected to the same fate as Julius Caesar if he was to continue oppressing the colonies. This elicited a spark that added to the fueling tension between the colonies and their ruler.
 As for his fight against the constitution as an anti-federalist, Henry was also a key figure in the creation of The Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is what kept the power of the leading figures to a certain threshold so that fears of a monarchy would not eventually become a problem. The Bill of Rights is also what protects our liberties and allowed us the freedoms that we have today. Henry wrote several papers that opposed the constitution and fought for the rights of the people. As Virginia’s first governor beginning in 1776, Henry had a substantial audience to have his voice and influence acknowledged. “Henry’s anti-federalist movement stemmed from him being appalled that the new people in power were making the same mistakes that were bound to lead to similar outcomes for the people” (Thomas Kidd, 2017). He rebelled against the control the government was trying to impose, as those in power sometimes unintentionally let it get to their head and need balanced, and made certain that history would not repeat itself. This concept can be shown in his statement “show me that age and country where the rights and liberties of the people were placed on the sole chance of their rulers being good men without a consequent loss of liberty! I say that the loss of that dearest privilege has ever followed, with absolute certainty, every such mad attempt” (Bill of Rights Institute, n.d). This quote by Henry questions the people to show one instance where someone with too much power did not result in the loss of liberties and to plead to not let it happen in this situation. On a wider scale, his leadership in this movement is what allows us today to be considered free as many times an unequal balance of power can often result in control and loss of independence. This idea that power needs balanced would become a concept that later led to the different branches of government and onto how bills, laws, and policies would be implemented.
Although Henry sometimes opposed the colonial leaders, he was still able to put his own opinions aside to help them in the fight against British policies. This shows that one contribution Henry also made to the shaping of the government was the ability to fight for the same cause even with those he sometimes fought against. This was a good example to the people that at that time there needed to be a revolution and they all needed to come together, despite any feelings they had towards one another to accomplish the goal of freedom. The ability to be clear-headed and not let emotions blur the root cause shows that Henry was truly a fantastic leader and gifted in his ability to model the vision that many shared of freedom and a reasonable government that allows them their necessary rights. A lot of the contributions Henry made were through speech and sophistication with his character showing that he was a great option to lead the people with his mind to the freedom we experience now.
 Conclusion
“Patrick Henry indirectly contributed again as his passionate speech of ‘give me liberty or give me death’ was able to convince those in attendance of the Second Virginia Convention to initiate preparing the troops to commence war on Great Britain” (History.com, 2018). His influence on people was so strong that he was able to provide the push that the leaders needed to begin strategizing their plan to achieve independence. This is another example to support the idea that Patrick Henry was highly influential in this event but he is not often one that we choose to consider. Although there were others, such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson that contributed strongly to our independence and the shaping of our government, Patrick Henry was the voice that gave people the courage and passion they needed to fight for what they want.
 Without Patrick Henry and the contributions that he made, history could have gone a lot differently. There always needs to be a voice in situations like these, that encourage and push those who need it to have the courage to do what they have to do. We tend to pride people based on what action they take but often forget about the people that pushed them into action. An equal balance of action and encouragement was provided by this figure in history that helped shape our way into our society today. Starting with his influential speeches and background of political knowledge, as well as legal, he was able to use his mind and willpower to fight for the vision he had for what we now refer to as America. It takes a strong character and passionate mind to be able to move people in a way that they find it within themselves to fight or make hard decisions like declaring a war where many people will be at risk. Patrick Henry standing up for what he believes in makes me believe that he was one of the most impactful figures in shaping our government.
The ABA Graduates’ Guide To School and Supervision
Tumblr media
So you’ve caught the bug.
The excitement of Behavior Analysis has captured you, and you’ve made the decision to go into the field of ABA. You’ve got some basic ideas of what you need to do, but answers to your questions can sound like straight foreign language. Why can’t someone just break it down to me in simple terms?!
I hear ya, which is why I wanted to do this guide...
Your reason for going into the field of ABA was either because A. You have worked with kids on the Autism Spectrum (It is a huge branch of therapy in this scientific field), or B. You heard about it through a friend, instructor, or the like.
Like many of us, you want to learn more about working in this field but don’t know where to begin.
What do I need in terms of education?
What jobs are available out there?
Who do we work with in this science?
Hopefully, you’ve already got an idea, though I’ll cover these in a future post. For those who know who we want to work with or are just ready to jump right in, here is what you need to go to get started. Please note that you should still read the direct requirements and guidelines for education + supervision from the official BACB site. This post is only meant as a simple breakdown, coupled with personal experience. I hope to answer questions that sometimes slip through the cracks in this process so it’s easier to understand. But as always, please contact the BACB with serious questions!
1. You need higher education. 📚
RBT Certification (High School level +)
If you are interested in working in a clinical branch of this field (i.e. Early intervention, ABA therapy for children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder), or gerontology), you’re probably going to need to gain RBT certification. This represents Registered Behavior Technician, which is a 40 hour long training program that includes being supervised by a BCaBA (Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst) or a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst). This level of training can be taken by anyone that has acquired a High School Degree or higher, and is typically offered on-the-job by most agencies. In fact, very soon RBT certification may be required at most places you will work at, due to insurance reasons. This is also available for a reasonable price online independently, however you will still require some on-the-job form of supervision as these hours will allow you to sit for the exam to get the cert.
BCaBA (Undergraduate level / Bachelors level +)
This level of certification allows you to work in higher level behavior analytic services, while under the supervision of BCBAs. You however, are able to supervise those under you (Behavior Technicians/Therapists & RBTs) who are implementing behavior analytical services. This is usually offered at college/universities both online and in-person and require you to acquire a certain number of supervision hours in conjunction with your studies. Some people do this during their bachelors, but it can be done after. Some people will go onto keep their BCaBA even if they later pursue a masters or PhD. A BCaBA can help a BCBA with caseload, offering almost the same work as a BCBA, but must work under the BCBA’s supervision in everything. With that said, this is a great gateway into the field if you are not ready to pursue a graduate level program or want to be able to work at this level only.
BCBA (graduate level / Masters level +)
This is the highest level in the applied field. It requires that you complete a graduate level program or a graduate level degree within the subjects of Psychology and/or Applied Behavior Analysis. (Please see BACB site for specific degrees accepted). Many who go onto become a BCBA may already have a graduate degree in something close to the field (Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Therapy, etc) and take a graduate level certificate program. This level also requires that you complete a program coupled with supervision by another BCBA or BCBA-D level practitioner who is able to supervise.
Can you do an ABA course program completely online?
YES. Many high-quality and even affordable programs exist where you can take the course sequence entirely online. Some course programs are hybrid courses as well, where you can get some on-site courses and take others online. This allows for people who are working full-time or have families to be able to attend. Additionally, many on-site programs offer cohorts that take the program in a sequence at either morning schedule or evening schedule so you can choose according to your work/life/family schedule!
PLACES THAT OFFER ABA PROGRAMS
First off, let’s make sure that the ABA programs that you want to consider are BACB approved course sequences. Luckily, most if not all do have this down pat. But be sure, when you are researching schools’ programs, that you see the approval information on their site. You can also check out approved school programs through BACB’s site.
Here are on-site and online programs that offer ABA education programs>
2. You need supervision 👩🏻‍🏫
Here’s the biggin. And this is where most questions and complications begin to happen. You may already had known that supervision hours are required, and this means you will either acquire this one of these ways:
On-Site: On-Site will be at a facility, agency, or in-home company that offers ABA services.
Online/Remote: Working directly with clients in a school, facility, agency, or in-home under the remote (online) supervision of a BCBA or BCBA-D who works with you via video/phone/online.
Depending on your location, your current type of work or where you want to work will determine what kind of supervision you will gain. You will either gain supervision through your on-site university program (they typically have a program to help place you with an on-site facility that will train you/supervise you/and pay you while you work on-site), or through your own job.
What kind of jobs will you be able to be supervised on?
ANSWER: Anything that is behavior analytical in nature. What do I mean by this? You will learn about the 7 dimensions of ABA soon enough, but to keep to the point - this will be any place in which you ARE indeed implementing ABA services. This means if you work in a school or facility with children or adults who are receiving behavior/therapy programming by a BCBA. If you are a teacher or volunteer who has the opportunity to work with a child or adult who requires/needs these services and are not receiving them currently, you may be able to get the opportunity with a remote BCBA. This will be something you have to discuss with your supervisor/boss, the remote BCBA and the potential client’s family. Note: you cannot get supervision for doing any job. It MUST be behavior analytical in nature.
PRO Tip: When consulting with a remote BCBA about this option, they will explain what is possible. Do not be afraid to ask!
How much supervision will I need?
This is where you have to look up the guidelines of supervision at BACB. They have a chart and guide that shows you how many hours you must gain and by what time.
How long will getting supervision take me to complete?
It all depends on how many hours you work each week. The minimum hours you can gain a week are 10 hours direct, and the max is 30 hours direct. It can take anywhere from 1 year to 3 years. Some people work on their hours on or off while others wait until they’re done with their ABA programs.
PROTip: Try to gain some amount of hours during your programs, as the coursework will become more applicable and memorable for you. It’s the best way to get training. You need hands-on experience to be a competent practitioner in this field and waiting until after your program will be a terrible waste of quality learning time.
When CAN I start supervision?
You can start after you begin your ABA coursework. Even if you begin one course, you can start. You CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT gain hours before you start. It can only begin after you start coursework.
PROTip: Start looking at local jobs in your area hiring for behavior technicians, or look for remote BCBA’s in forums or groups on sites like Facebook. Do this once you’ve been accepted into a program or are starting your first course. There are many competent practitioners who can direct you to someone qualified to do this or know of a job that might be offering supervision in your area!
3. You need to get organized 🗂
One of the most important part of your job will be to create systems and programs that create efficiency, learning opportunities, and growth. The best place to start is with yourself. When you begin your ABA program, having a highly organized schedule, calendar, and work routine will be key to keep your supervision on track, your education up to part, and yourself from going crazy. This is especially important if you are already a working adult and/or parent!
PROtip: Get yourself a binder and organize your supervision documents, all study materials, schedules, and important content that you’ll need throughout this process.
4. You need to stay on top of your studies ✏️📆
This field can be overwhelming and at first, the courses may make you feel like your brain is about to melt. Eventually it does in fact not only get easier but very interesting. Problem is, juggling studies with work, supervision (especially if this is being done in addition to your current job), and family life might suffer. To make sure it doesn’t overwhelm you, you need to create a schedule for yourself and set up your devices to remind you when big projects, exams, homework, supervision work and even your family meals are due. My friend, we will delve into this in my next post. For now, find what works for you. What prompts in your real life will help you remember when to study? When your next class is? When your supervisor needs that progress report? Do this and you will very much succeed.
5. You need to take care of yourself  🍷🏝
Throughout this process, there are likely going to be times when you WILL feel overwhelmed, burnt out, or ready to throw in the towel. DON’T. Remember to take moments (schedule this if you have to!) to take care of your own mental and physical well-being. Schedule breaks in between studying. Schedule time in your week to do something you love and pretend you’re not in school and don’t work. This is essential to anyone who wants to work in this field, as you will be obtaining large responsibilities that may involve the care and well-being of others.
6. You need to remember that ABA is a SCIENCE 📉
ABA is not Autism. ABA therapy/Autism therapy is an evidence based therapy branch of ABA. Right now, because of the healthcare benefits that were put into place some odd years ago, this has become a very large need in our field. It’s a very fun and exciting field to work in definitely, but it’s also NOT the only thing. Many people sometimes confuse the two as the same thing. This is not the science of working with people with ASD. It is the science of BEHAVIOR. And behavior is everywhere. You will hopefully learn in your work about the various branches that one can work in. For example, working with indiviiduals who have suffered brain trauma or alzheimers, incarcerated youth, business development, hospitals, early intervention, organizational management, and more. We can learn alot from others who are in these fields, and as you get further along in your studies, you will learn that you need to acquire experience and competence in any one or more of these branches in order to work in them in the future.
Do you know what will be the next step after these celebrations, happiness and all?
Apply for counselling process After the results, most of the candidates will be confused about the further steps. There are counselling processes conducted by different bodies to help the NEET winners to conduct admission procedures. These counselling sections are not led by NTA. The role of NTA is so limited to conduct examinations and publish the results. There are three types of counselling a) AIQ or All India Quota  All central and deemed universities such as  AIIMS, BHU, etc along with 15 per cent seats of all government medical and dental colleges seats will be filled under this process. The exception to this is only the state of Jammu Kashmir and admissions to the colleges in Jammu Kashmir comes under state quota counselling. AIQ counselling will be conducted by MCC  (Medical Counselling Committee). b) State Quota counselling This is for the admission to the remaining 85% of government college seats and the private college seats will also be filled with this. The state quota seats are reserved to candidates who belong to that particular state and the candidates from other states are not eligible to participate in this counselling process. The State Quota Counselling will be conducted by the representative of the state government C) Ayush Counselling           Counselling for Ayush courses will be conducted by  AYUSH Admissions Central Counselling Committee (AACCC). They will carry out the process of admission for all the Ayush colleges in India including the deemed universities and the 15% of Government, Government aided, Central, Private and National colleges.
What if you are unable to qualify?
If you are very determined to hold a medical degree, do not mind giving another year. Start your preparation from the very next day. Work hard with a dedicated mind, hard work will never go in vain. Realise the mistakes you made last time and try not to repeat them. A perfect human will learn from his mistakes and he will yield success from that learning.
If you are not interested in giving up one year, you have plenty of options to pick. There are many types of courses, which includes paramedical careers like Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Nursing etc. You can choose a better course, a better college and spend your college life happily.
Dear Students, Always note, NEET is not the end of your career or life. This world is full of opportunities. If not NEET you will have other lakhs and lakhs of choices to pick from. Always keep in mind that “A man becomes successful by his character not by his career”.  Greetings Basidia
Tumblr media
The top-notch quality of education, countless studying opportunities, modern educational approaches, student job opportunities, and future prospects available is an overall exciting studying experience for Indian students.
But, on the flip side, many students from India have difficulties understanding the entire process of applying for a university degree course in the UK because the information is not very clear and often confusing for first-timers. As someone who is not from the UK, it can be difficult to navigate the information to study in the UK for future Indian students.
In this article, we’ve compiled a set of information, in the form of a step-by-step process, that an Indian student would have to go through to study in the UK.
As you may know, there are a large number of universities to choose from in the UK, whereas the number of degree courses on offer is much higher. For international students, including you as a fellow Indian student who may not have much knowledge of universities in the UK does require a little more research before making the final decision (as this will ultimately set you for life !).
However, there’s no need to stress about this too much. As long as you know what your academic goals are and what type of degree or course will get you to your future career, this will be very minor.
Even with the setback of the pandemic, you can reach all universities in the UK online for any further information. So, sit down at your laptop and begin your research with a bit of help from us.
We’ve compiled the list of all recognised universities in the UK… We advise that you do a fast scanning of the list and look into what universities relate to your personal studying goals, financial capacities and the location to study in the UK for Indian students.
Once you’ve decided about what course you’re willing to enroll in to study in the UK as an Indian Student, it’s time to know what you need to do in order to be admitted through to the final stage. This is to add that you need to check the university’s entry requirements.
There are no typical or rigid requirements for all UK universities, therefore you need to contact the University of your choice by yourself and ask for further details. Overall, entry requirements for Indian students in the UK differ depending on the type of course or degree you want to apply for.
The list of documents required to study in the UK as an Indian student below:
Recognized Qualifications – Transcript of Grades – English Proficiency – Motivation or Reference Letter – Relevant Work Experience/Internships
Please be aware that qualifications attained overseas are most of the time not recognized in the UK unfortunately. For this reason, you may be required to attend a foundation year (1 year) to gain certain knowledge in particular subjects that your actual degree is concerned with. Motivation, Reference letters, and proof of work experience are optional and are usually required in addition to your application at highly-reputed universities (as competition and selection criteria are tight). These documents are mostly required when you apply for a postgraduate degree also.
Always keep in mind that this initial stage is very crucial when applying to study in the UK as an Indian student because every detail counts a great deal. If your application paperwork doesn’t contain all documents as precisely required by the university it may lead to your admission delay and eventually to not even be enrolled. If necessary write them down and mark each document you have completed as you go through them. This is your future!
Never hesitate to reach your university by email and enquire about every issue that may get in your way during the whole process of your application.
After you have completed the documents required of you it is time to submit your application. Typically, international applications to study in the UK are collected through online means. The majority of UK universities are part of the joint online application platform called UCAS.
To upload your documents you must scan them into a PDF or JPG format. In addition, the application form may also include standardised information about you which you have to fulfill properly.
Wait for your admission letter
As soon as you complete your application and send this off, the University of your choice will send you an email to confirm they have received an application from you. Note that UK universities collect a large number of applications, therefore, it normally takes time to receive an answer. In normal conditions, the university will notify you within a few weeks whether or not you’re given a place at their university or not.
Get your student visa ASAP
You must get a student visa in order to be permitted to study in the UK as an Indian student or international student. Student visa in the UK is regarded as ‘Tier 4’. You can apply for your Tier 4 visa once the university of your choice confirms that you have been accepted.
