yeah that's the dress from the other boleyn girl we seen on jane for 5 seconds lol

i do not understand why they bothered recreating the gown to such exact detail, when jane is only seen for a single shot, when presumably this would have been strictly planned out in advance (since the costuming dept. for that film had such a big job to do) ... but i am eternally grateful.

#jane seymour #wolf hall do NOT let me down #the other boleyn girl #they likely wanted the jane dress for that kind of instant recognizability #but i don't know if audiences at the time would have been that familiar with holbein's portraiture #so as to immediately identify/recognise jane seymour's portrait #at least not beyond it being red?#it makes sense for anne boleyn since her portraiture has been riffed on and displayed much more #at least in the uk tbf but like ... everyone knew damn well what anne boleyn's portrait looked like #even before the big tudor boom off the back of the tudors #if for no other reason than because anne boleyn has always been more famous and marketed than jane seymour #at least on a visual level such as reproducing their portraiture #it's why the b necklace is constantly recreated and played on even if it probably did not exist in real life #chitchat
