It might seem silly to say this, but every time I log in and see a new notification, I feel happy.
Even if it's just one, and even if we are not mutuals - it's solid proof that somebody, somewhere in the world, felt a connection to that image, that text, GIF or whatever was posted, just as I did.
By liking, reblogging, and especially adding personal remarks - through hashtags, comments, or additional text - it shows how there's more peopel thinking or going through the same as you. And it can also show you different interpretations, feelings that were evoked, as well as reasons behind them sharing. We are all unique, with diverse life experiences and backgrounds, so the meaning we derive may not always align with what the original poster intended to convey - and that is totally fine! Because it never ceases to amaze me how we are all connected, and that we are never truly alone. Also, by specifically posting on Tumblr, I've come to realize that what we share here is always a work in progress, it's never finished, and never indefinitely our own. And I know, even though the legal aspects of copyright for online content are very important and are not being taken into account as I am writting this, I just really wanted to focus only this fascinating and continuous metamorphosis. I mean, we could be just venting, without a single care for grammar, spelling or syntax, hit publish on our most unfiltered text ever written, and yet, it will inevitably take on a life of its own. Even with no followers, sooner or later, it will be liked, shared, and/or acquire those previously mentioned new interpretations, become an important subject of reflection to somebody or even a heated debate amongst others, on the other side of the globe.
Really, think about it: how beautiful is that?
[updated on the 16/11/2024: added hashtags; rephased the second and third paragraphs and added more context to the fourth and fifth.]
