am trying SO hard to not start a new language on duolingo but like. i am LOOKING
#i currently have a 255 day streak#i'm learning spanish (also taking classes for that one) french latin and i have a korean tab but i haven't used it#i gave myself a goal of learning spanish to a passable conversation point by next year#because my sister is pregnant her husband is from spain and they decided to raise the kid speaking only spanish at home#because of studies showing that children in the US that learn english as a second language don't tend to pass on the first#so 3rd generation theoretically would not know spanish#i am getting like 2000 xp per day even with the new duolingo update#if i do add another it'll probably be either irish german or japanese#i know my college offers japanese classes so that could help later#which is also my plan for french#plus it would be reinforced whenever i watch anime or w/e#but my family has german and irish lineage#on my mom's side it's like 86% irish then mostly german i think? and my sister took a dna test too and we're around 56% irish#and about 33% german#non of that matters but like. on my mom's dad's side at least it was only a couple generations from immigration#her grandma was first generation from ireland and her (grandma's) husband was either a child of german immigrants or a german immigrant#which we have a ww2 war story about him. he was already in the us then and he was so fucking angry#because apparently his boss ruined his chances of fighting nazis#but that's it's own story#sorry *its

Reflection
lavrentios-michailidis:
A couple of weeks ago, I took in my hands the 3rd and final brief for the 1st semester in the module of documentary photography; When I firstly read it I thought tought that it woulld be impossible, because of my restrained knowledge upon the certain matter. Four days after the 1st week I had the first pictures. My original thoughts were to work upon the right to protest , which in a larger form is the freedom of expression and to travel back to Greece for an event that it will be taking place at the 6th of December; unfortunately due to the terror crisis and the lack of funds I won’t go. During the 6th week (week off) I sat down and made the required research for the references as the tutors called them, they were those that we would use to take a look and uncover the nature of our own project upon the human rights . The books contained many interesting photographers. One of the most interesting of them is Richard Mosse, a New York based photographer but Irish in nationality that is using Aerochrome film . Another equally important and extrodinary photograher is Cristina De Middel; Spanish photojournalist, studied fine arts. Her work with the austronauts from Zambia is abseloutely astonishing.
After the week off I had to present my thoughts through a five-minute long presentation; according to the director’s feedback for the presentation. I had to make my thoughts smaller and concentrate to a point that is accesible and easy to be completed. I liked his advice I tried to follow her to the letter.
Some days later, and specifically on the 13th of November I took part in a vigil as they called it for the victims of the Paris Masacre in order to honour them and PROTEST for taking without any reason so many inncoent lives. After a week we were taken to the Autograph Gallery ABP for the RAR exhibitrion, The workshops that took place and the pictures featured in the exhibition were abseloutely amazing. There was a photo that imprinted exactly what my original thought dictated. Before we were taken there the course director showed us some additional leads upon the certain matter. He talked about Zanele Muholi; a South-African documentary photographer working mostly with queer and general politics. One of the most important key phrases from the video he showed us was “We connect through photography”
Yesterday we received feedback from Dave, another documentary photography tutor. His feedback was good enough to keep me motivated and give some hopes, because I started getting confused and I didn’t know if my photos were the proper ones. Now my thoughts lie to the street outside the PM’s house which is between Whitehall and Parliment st. and the upcoming protest for the Antiausterity meters in the 5th of December. In my opinion this is the most difficult project I have undertaken in photography. After we have completed the project we must Print the photos in any size we want and exhibit them, calling our friends and familly.
The basic Idea of this project is mentioned in the very first paragraph of this post.
The only thing I would like for this project would be to have some more time in order to make out of him a better material.
The development of this project was initially based on the migration crisis that stroke Greece a few month back, later on after a short presentation I saw my mistakes and the source of the problem and changed my thoughts. I t was our course Director that showed me the right way to get closer the project. His exact words were “ Do not try to do something that it is inaccessible and therefore impossible, Choose something more general”. After that I immediately changed my mind and decided that it would better to focus on a more general side of the rights.
The conceptual approach was quite easy, given the fact that what I decided to work on was impossible to happen inside a restrained place like a room or like a building in general.
The theoretical research is detailed mentioned a few paragraphs above this one. As far as the visual research is concerned, recently the class visited the Autograph ABP Gallery which was exhibiting photos upon the matter of human rights.
What was that I learned from this project ?
First things first, I learnt how to make research upon a certain matter;
Secondly, I learnt that being passionate about something is very important, because otherwise you can not communicate your ideas with the rest of the world.
And thirdly and most important; In order to be a good photographer, you must first be a bad photographer, besides the Byzantine empire did not fall in 2 days.
