Read the back of a food packet today and worked out the word for 'carbohydrate', I'm so proud of myself
Saw a new word today and even though it's new I can work what it means because I recognise all the kanji!
#well i know that water is 水 and it makes sense that 炭 is carbon bc you've got the radical for 'fire' in there#and 化 is change or form and 物 is basically thing#so 炭水化物 (stuff formed of carbon and water) makes sense for 'carbohydrate'#the word carbohydrate itself is carbon + hydrogen + ate (with oxygen) and obviously hydrogen + oxygen is water (hence hydrate/hydration)#i love etymology#progress report
