out of context snippet
tagged by my lovely @ohyou-pretty-things
This is a snippet from a fic I tried to save my arse with last year when I wasn't able to finish my original idea for RLfest. In the end, I haven't finished this one either thought there's a good chunk written out and I have it all planned out. Hopefully one day soon.
Remus doesn’t count on being caught in a snowpocalypse at such a place—at least, not when he wakes up that morning, not when he arrives at the library, and not when he takes his first break after two hours of research on British telefantasy of the '70s and '80s. It’s actually all quite filmesque, really, and for the first time in his life, Remus is surprised to realize that these things actually do happen in his geographic location in real life as well. He has seen enough movies with this premise, but he’s always been somewhat doubtful, skeptical about things until they actually happen to him personally, though with enough common sense and empathy that people still like him well enough. Maybe that’s why Remus went into film studies in the first place. For him, watching movies has always come with learning new perspectives, seeing (other) ways of life. That’s what Remus has really been interested in since he was a small child with a heart condition, always stuck at home out of his parents’ fear that he might drop dead in the middle of the schoolyard or a street. He truly owes a lot to film.
Remus stares out of the window of the library for a good while before he fully accepts that, yes, indeed, he has been snowed in—at a library he rode a bus for 40 minutes to get to, of all places. He is snowed in to the point that it’ll be impossible to leave the building until it stops snowing, and even then, it will be impossible to get any bus back home for a few more hours before someone in the city council decides it’s a good idea to send a few snow trucks around to make life happen again. To trudge back all the way home in these conditions would definitely take at least two or three hours, especially for someone like him, who gets unreasonably tired unreasonably fast (cue the heart). Plus, Remus looks down at his Converse with a small, resigned sigh—he reckons he needs to install a different weather app on his phone. Which he promptly does, because now it seems like he has all the time in the world in this place anyway, so he might as well.
Perhaps if Remus had paid a bit more attention to his surroundings an hour or two ago, when people suddenly started leaving en masse, this exceedingly unfortunate situation could have been prevented. But at 2 p.m., after four hours of research, Remus is still enthusiastically (and unironically) into it, with the deadline for his article for Cinema Retro looming over his head. So, he doesn’t notice and keeps his nose buried in '70s magazines and movie reviews. The next time he looks up, everything outside the windows is so white he fears conjunctivitis, and there are exactly two other people on the floor with him—the librarian Remus spoke to when he arrived at the library in the morning, and a young bloke with long, dark hair and earphones in his pierced ears, sitting in the very corner of the room, his brows knitted behind a huge pile of what looks like medical books. Remus twists his mouth to the side pensively, and after a moment, starts rummaging in his messenger bag, slung on the back of his chair, for a bottle of water. He has resigned himself to the idea of being stuck here for the next several hours. Slumping backward into the backrest of his chair, he winces a little as his bony spine collides with the wooden construction. Well, these chairs are not the most comfortable to sit in for much longer. Tagging anyone who would like to do it and @lemndrps @moonwalker94 @onehundredflamingos

So @liloinkoink tagged me in a little game where I post about all my wips, so people can see them and ask questions about them. I realized that I uh. I have twenty different AU concepts (all made with my beloved friend @made-nondescript ), so I’m gonna pick a few:
Merfolk AU (fWhimmy): in which Jimmy, sheriff to a small coastal town, realizes there’s something— or, someone— living right near their shores. fWhimmy mer au where fWhip is the merperson, and they have to figure out how to make it work, despite… everything.
And… is he sure about this? Joel’s gonna laugh at him— Jimmy’s certain he is. He can’t even blame him, really. What a ridiculous thing to say: I found a rock at the rock beach and I think there was a guy in the water— yeah, right. But… it feels important. It feels important enough to try. He has to try.
“I think… I think I met someone in the ocean, two nights ago,” Jimmy murmurs.
This AU does have one posted work already— [We Will See Tomorrow], which is like a prologue of sorts!
Vamp AU (WRA siblings, future fWhimmy): One mistake is all it takes to change the course of your life forever, as fWhip and Gem find out the hard way. Roseblings become vampires the messy way, and find it quite hard to come to terms with.
“Well, hello there!” The man calls brightly, perhaps just a touch too loud for the occasion at hand. fWhip bites back a flinch at the sound.
“Uh— hi,” he calls back, “I take it you have what I’m looking for?”
The man chuckles slightly, an easy smile stretching across his scarred face, and fWhip raises an eyebrow. The man steps closer, positioning himself next to fWhip. “You’re after some really valuable stuff here, you know.” The man leans down slightly, looking into fWhip’s eyes. “You sure you’re willing to pay the price?”
(If he were more observant, perhaps fWhip would’ve noticed the way the man’s too-sharp teeth flashed in the sickly orange light— his first, and only, warning.)
This one has lots of art, which can be found under [#esmp vamp au]!
Space AU (fWhimmy— sorta): They’ve landed on this planet, and too late, they’ve realized they can’t leave it. How do you come to terms with the fact you’re definitely doomed? Jimmy and fWhip are co pilots of a spacecraft sent to check on a planet that sent out a strangled distress signal, and now they’ve got plenty of time to get acquainted before the end— if fWhip could stop making things worse, that is.
“Commander Jimmy, transmission regarding the emergency distress signal received from planet ANC-19.”
“This planet is lost, and so are we. Do not send a rescue mission. This planet is sick, it cannot be saved. I repeat, do not send anyone else here. They will die. There are no survivors. There is nothing of value left here.”
Snowpocalypse AU— or, hey what if Xornoth kidnapped Scott and used his ice powers to cause eternal winter? Wouldn’t that be fucked up? Scott’s absence is noticed very quickly by Gem, who drags fWhip and Jimmy to his house to check on him
“Oh—“ Gem turns the handle, the door swinging open slightly. “Scott! I’m coming in!!”
The lights are on as the step inside— fWhip knew they were, of course, but…
Well. He didn’t expect this.
The house is completely trashed— the coffee table is turned on its side, a mug of what might’ve been coffee or tea has shattered on the ground, the liquid partially stained into the rug. The pillows from the couch are strewn all around the room, and half the cabinets are thrown open, as if someone was looking for… something.
“…Scott?” fWhip calls, hesitantly.
Something is definitely wrong.
(More quick ones below the cut!)
fWhimmy Apocalypse AU (also featuring lots of fWhip & Pix): In which fWhip and Pix make the hardest trip of their lives to Jimmy’s house, with fWhip determined to see Jimmy again, against all odds. Apocalypse, but not in the zombie sense— think more like if sculk was a bit more fucked up. This one has all of its current writing posted [here!]
Superhero AU: You know the trope of “villain goes to superhero’s doorstep, super injured, and is like ‘I didn’t know where else to go’?” That, but it’s Jimmy going to fWhip, and fWhip is more of a vigilante than a hero, and Jimmy doesn’t necessarily… like… get redeemed. I remember this one had a long section in the notes about how Jimmy is a villain by choice, not because he was forced to be.
Antique shop AU: Nondescript and I went off for a While about this one, which created [this post]— basically, Pix runs an antique shop in a college town, and he hears about the lives of fWhip and Jimmy when they visit his shop
Android fWhip AU— or, hey what if the reason empires one fWhip survived the blast was because he wasn’t human at all, and nobody knew until Gem finds him in the wreckage? And then there’s the whole situation with— well, how do you just not notice that your brother is an android? This one had a whole scene where Gem takes a mangled fWhip over to Mezalea, as one of the last standing empires, and Joel tries to help them repair fWhip. I made [art] for this one, which is the only thing this AU has so far
There are a lot more, but I think that’ll do for now! I’d be happy to answer any questions about any of these, or any of my other writing :D !!
(As for tagging folks, I don’t wanna bother too many people, but if @blocksruinedme or @stitchthesewords wanna share any AU’s, go wild my friends!)
#umbrify talks#umbrify writes#thanks for the tag Lew I have spent Hours on this post#counted all my AU’s and I have Twenty. so.#I’m not cramming twenty AU’s into this post <3

I've got a question for you by Lynnn_x
When Steve suggested they take a week of winter break and spend it at his uncle’s cabin in Ohio because Nancy offhandedly mentioned she hadn’t been skiing in ages and really wanted to go again one day, he didn’t think that same suggestion would result in being trapped in the middle of a literal snowpocalypse with Jonathan Byers of all people.
okay so THIS FIC WAS SO DAMN GOOD? first of all, amazing writing, reads so fast and it’s just so good. second, steve and jonathan’s characterisation is on POINT! i loved this from start to finish and, to my very surprise, THE AUTHOR HAS MANY MORE STONATHAN FICS!!! seriously, go read this. i’ll even go out of my way to tag people who i know will love this. but go read it now!!!
@andiwriteordie @wiseatom @strangeswift @astrobei @willelfanpage @bottomlessabyssposts @musicalchaos07 @elekinetic @booksandpaperss @bookinit02 (basically everyone i can remember has interacted with stonathan’s posts)
#watch me go read everything this author has written#this was my first stonathan fic and i am SO HAPPY IT WAS THIS ONE#i need to know if this author has a tumblr account right NOW#stonathan#stonathan fic#stonathan fic rec#nic fic rec

Welp, the winter storm took out power for my entire neighborhood and they can't give an estimate for when it'll be back. Even my parents, who live in a bougie neighborhood 15 mins away and never lost power during the week of the snowpocalypse last year haven't had power all morning. Sigh. I will not miss this aspect of Texas living when we move.
I was going to post the next SSS chapter tonight, but that might not happen now since my laptop is dead. :I

Thank you! As you've given me free reign to talk about anything in any fic, let's chat about A Moment's Respite!
So your request sat in my inbox for a fair while and I was struggling with what to write. I went through a few different ideas before the Snowpocalypse in Munich offered this scenario and I knew I had to write it quickly! It was actually pretty much done within a day, which is really unusual for me (Sky High is probably the only other time this has happened). One thing I was sure of from the beginning was that I wanted Nace to be the one sleeping on Jan, whatever else the plot was. He's very often cast as the caretaker and I wanted to upend it if I could. This part:
[Jan] suddenly places his hand over Nace’s eyes. “Now... sleeeep.”
...is actually taken from real life and generously loaned to their fictional selves for the story! Jan not having a clear idea of a first date plan past "some good wine and us two" is taken from that interview where they ask the band about their ideal dates. Jan is very laidback and doesn't want to overthink it. Given their usual hectic lifestyle, I'm a real sucker for the 'quiet evening in' type date for them as a change of pace. (Nace, as we know, loves a good trampoline park, but as impressive as that would no doubt be, it didn't really fit the chilled vibe of the story. 🤭) One of the things I find funny about re-reading it now is that it was still the ASTP-only era for shenanigans (discounting the occasional Dopamin shuffle). If only we knew then about all the stuff that would come up on this tour! Oh, and Jure got Jan's dinner order the first time, he just likes making him repeat it to wind him up! 😜

Book Blurb: Fans of Christina Lauren and Maggie Knox will adore this fun and festive romcom featuring a grumpy/sunshine duo who find themselves in stuck together over the holidays, where the weather outside is frightful—but inside, things are heating up in this sexy holiday story.
Sorority mom Becca Fairfield is used to guys not taking her seriously. She’s too blond, too quirky, or Just. Too. Much. So she’s ditched dating to focus on her job and a house filled with drama and plenty of tea. Now with the holidays and a major blizzard on her doorstep, Becca has everything she needs to survive the next two weeks on her own. Hot cocoa, plenty of books . . . and the memory of a steamy kiss with a certain sexy, grumposaurus next-door neighbor to keep her warm.
Only Becca’s seriously underestimated this Snowpocalypse. So when the power goes out and Harrison Cooper—football coach, master crank, and the guy who acted mega-awkward after said steamy kiss—offers her shelter, it only makes sense to accept. They’ll just be Blizzard Buddies. Hang out, stay safe, and maybe indulge in a little R-rated cuddling. Becca knows that Harrison isn’t the dating kind, and what happens during the storm lasts only as long as the storm. But are they keeping warm . . . or playing with fire?
Review:
After a fantastic date between a Sorority mom and her neighbor, the college football coach, he ghosts her for two years but now with a snow blizzard happening and they're both forced to share a home... they'll have to face the feelings between them and what could have been and what could still be. Becca Fairfield is a sorority mom, she loves helping the girls and looking after them. She's considered too blond, too quirky, too much and after bad date after bad date, she's just had enough. It doesn't help that she went out with her very handsome but grumpy neighbor who just happens to be the college football coach, Harrison Cooper and after what she thought was a great date ended with him ghosting her. It's been two years and they are both still barely talking to each other, yet when the snowstorm hits and Becca's sorority house is damaged, she is forced to stay with Harrison until the power comes back and the snow storm calms down. Yet staying with the very same guy who made you doubt yourself is bound to be a not great time. Harrison regrets not calling Becca despite telling her he would two years ago. He's a divorced failing football coach who's team is losing and he might be out of a job soon. He's grumpy, cranky, and has a hard time communicating with people. Yet the more time he spends with the gorgeous blonde who tempts him during this snowstorm the more he wants to actually make it work with her. Can these two polar opposites give love a second chance? This was an okay second chance romance filled with misunderstandings, and if that's your favorite tropes then I definitely think this is the holiday romance book for you!
*Thanks Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing), Forever for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

- I had a post go as viral as I’ve ever had a post go (~1100 notes in a couple days), and now new people are following me, I’m sorry guys, if you’re here for the goose, that was a one-off. Not to say there will be absolutely no future geese whatsoever, but my content is mainly about my life hanging out in Taiwan, and occasional nostalgic throwbacks to past travels.
- In the winter you can tell which foreigners have been in Taipei a while and which are new arrivals by who’s trotting around in t-shirts and who’s bundled up like we’re about to have a snowpocalypse at 19C/67F. As I now fall into the latter category, I feel free to give some hard side-eye to the former.
- In fact, I think it’s everyone wearing the puffy coats these days that makes being crushed in the MRT at 8 am tolerable, maybe even...a little bit...cozy? (This line of thinking is probably a sign of severe touch starvation.) Regardless, being pinball’d around the train car whenever everyone shoves their way out at transfer stations is an infinitely better experience when all elbows are well-padded.
- Continuing with the MRT theme, I was taking the train home with a friend the other day and asked if I could touch him, with the intent of putting my head on his shoulder in exhaustion but also wanting to be 100% clear this was platonic touch. He told me this would be unacceptable if I were female and weird if I were male, but seeing as I was [gender] “neutral”, I could have at it. Neither the answer nor logic I was expecting, but okay, it’s affirming in a way, I’ll take it?
- Last but not least, there’s some documentation on anaesthesia temporarily changing one’s sense of taste and smell, but I’m not really sure what’s currently rendering my nose averse to the smell of my go-to breakfast restaurant, and my fave jjajangmyeon flavour instant noodles (which used to be an unfortunate staple of my diet) sadly unappealing- is it that, or simply the fact that I told my friend to splurge on fresh fruit and veg during my recovery and now I’m addicted to cherry tomatoes?
#there is still a 2022 new years review pending#i just need to collect myself#aforementioned friend had a weird upbringing and is very lgbt-oblivious#the epitome of He a little confused but he got the spirit#i adore him tho he can learn#i've started buying dark bread at the closest thing to a western bakery for my carbs instead of instant noodles who am i anymore

Chapter 11 - Found Family
“How did you find us?” Cass asked, perched on the arm of the chair that Tyler was sitting in, facing Seven and Vanderwood who were sitting on the sofa.
“It was Jaehee’s suggestion, actually. Neither of you went back to hacking, so that was a dead end, and you didn’t leave a trail with the identity swaps. Jaehee said if you weren’t doing your usual work, you’d be doing something in a service industry, she suggested we look for B&Bs, Coffee Shops, and bakeries that opened or changed hands at the right timing. That was a lot to look through.” Seven waved his arms for emphasis.
“Why the fuck did you pick this snowpocalypse of a state anyway?” Vanderwood grumbled, his hands wrapped around a steaming mug of coffee.
“I thought you might look here. If you knew Gramps.”
“Gramps?” Seven said, looking between Vanderwood and … Cass. Her name was Cass now.
“Tangerine’s biological father.” She supplied. “He told me this was a last resort, and honestly… I wanted to be found this time.”
“The idiot had a family?!” Vanderwood was incensed, almost spilling his coffee, which would have been tragic.
“Apparently not one he told you about.” she said, bitterly. “Tangerine had him write a granddaughter into his will, just in case I came looking. And when I did, he introduced us to his PCA as his granddaughter Cassandra and her boyfriend Tyler, and well. I didn’t have time to build a new self… all I had was the last one he built for me. No where else to run from here, boys.”
She was shaking, but trying to pretend she was fine. Then, she was moving, as Tyler had wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her into his lap. Sure, she was startled, but it took her no time at all to settle into his lap, safe like he promised that she would be the minute they moved into this tiny apartment. It wasn't the first time he pulled this move, and it probably wouldn't be the last.
Seven looked at them with a look brimming with jealousy and sadness, but said something completely else.
“This is some Stardew Valley bullshit.”
It took her a minute of wrapping her mind around it, but sure enough, if she had nowhere else to go, gramps had the solution, take over the family business in the middle of nowhere… It sure was the plot of that game, wasn’t it. She started to laugh, and once the emotional dam broke, it broke for good, and soon her laughter turned into tears, and she was full-on sobbing.
“Sorry.” She said, and took deep breaths to calm herself down. “It’s just a lot. You’re here. I finally found my family, and then I lost most of you and I just… I couldn’t…”
“We missed you.” Vanderwood said, and she and Seven were both taken back by the emotion in his voice. “But if you think I’m calling him Tyler, you’re going to have to fucking think again. Seriously, Tyler Woods?!”
“I didn’t think we’d be here that long! It seemed fine at the time!”
Vanderwood just shook his head in disbelief, but it was Saeran who spoke up.
“Please, can I be Saeran again? I’ll even take Ray. I just… How did you do this over and over, Jae- I mean Cass?”
“I wonder… if it would be safe… to be Jaena again.” she said, quietly. “I miss her. She was fun. But I love this little coffeeshop.”
“You could be Shannon again.” Vanderwood said, an eyebrow raised. “If you want to go that far back.”
“Shannon?” one of the twins asked, or maybe both, she wasn't sure.
“My birth name.” she said, but shook her head. “Shannon is dead. Jaena is just missing. We could probably work up something about this being temporary witness protection shit for the mint eye stuff, couldn’t we? It’d explain you all being here.”
“And Saeran? Based on the swooning college girls, people will miss Tyler.” Seven said, mostly thinking out loud.
Vanderwood shrugged. “Tyler and Cass have an epic breakup. Later, Saeran comes with Seven once the blonde has washed out, and stops wearing the contacts. You get your girl back, Jaena gets to have a dramatic self-realization time and change her style in reaction to a bad breakup. Takes some time off, has someone else watch the coffee shop.”
“About that…” Seven said, subdued. “I think their relationship is real, Vandy.”
Vanderwood looked back at them and blinked a few times, silence heavy over the group before he spoke again. “Well, shit. I’m going to take a walk. You kids figure this mess out.” True to his word, he stood, grabbed Saeran’s keys off the hook by the door, and walked out.
Once he was gone, the silence was heavy, until Saeran cleared his throat.
“It’s true that I love her.” Saeran said. “I have since… well, since she was too smart to stay in that apartment. We’re the only support each other has had for a year and a half, and most of that we’ve spent pretending to be madly in love. Eventually it stops being pretend, you know? But we haven’t made anything official, or anything. Because, well, there’s you.”
She nodded. “I won’t lie to you, Seven. I do love him.” She sniffled, and wiped away a stray tear. She’d cried enough, damn it. And he was crying too, which hurt her heart. “But I love you too. I always have. At the least since the strawberry cake.”
Seven’s breath caught at her declaration, his eyes going wide. “You… but…”
“Dummy.” She said, sticking her tongue out at him. “If I didn’t love you, would I have pretended to be you for that long? Would I have worried about what you’d think of me crawling into bed with you half naked?”
“I. Um.”
“I know. It’s a lot, I…” She turned and looked at Saeran, who just nodded to her. They’d talked this to death, he knew how she felt and was on board with her plans. She just never thought she'd get a chance to ask this question. “Seven, I love you both. I want to be with you both. I’m not ashamed of how I feel. Can you… can you still love me?”
“Let me get this straight. You love my twin and you love me, and you’re asking me if I’m okay with you continuing to do so?”
“Yes. And acting on those feelings.” She said, and bit her lip. What if he says no?
“Saeran, you’re okay with this?”
Saeran smiled softly, and nodded. “I am. The guilt over being in love with her when she should have been yours… feeling like I stole her… It’s been hard. She’s tried to help, and we’ve been each other’s rock during this, but… I just finally found you back, Saeyoung, then I lost you again and I… I…” He took a deep breath, and continued. “I would do anything to keep you in my life, even if it meant breaking my own heart. You’re a part of me I can’t do without.”
Seven stood, and walked over to the chair they were sitting in, and wrapped the both of them in a hug.
“I’m in.” he said. “On one condition.”
“What’s the condition?” Saeran asked.
“I want my perfect scarlet back. I need you to be my Jaena.”
“Jaena it is. I’ll make it work somehow.”
“Okay, but why do I have to visit the old man?” Vanderwood said, grumpily.
“Because you’re my dad.”
“I’m not—“
“Don’t make me start calling you Daddy. You know Seven will pick right the hell up on that shit. And where Seven goes, Saeran follows.”
The click of the door opening was followed by the dulcet tones of a happy ginger.
“What am I picking up on?”
“Nothing.” Jaena and Vanderwood chorused, her laughing, him grumbling.
“I’m also here, as predicted.” Saeran said quietly.
The trip to Gramps’ house would have been a nice walk in the summer, but since it was a balmy -5 Fahrenheit out, they piled into the little hybrid SUV that Vanderwood drove. He’d sure become a cute little urban dad in no time flat. He’d even managed to stop being flustered when she called him Dad, which she considered a win, even though he didn’t really like it.
Jaena led the way to the door, and rang the doorbell. They were expected, but it was still polite. Moments later, the door was opened by an older man with a grin on his face.
“My lovely granddaughter! Come in, come in!” He led them in to the cozy living room where a fireplace was lit, and snacks were set out waiting for them. The PCA was nowhere to be seen, but signs of their passing were everywhere.
“Now, the blonde I know. Good to see you again, Junior.” Gramps said, smiling knowingly at Saeran. “But the ginger twin’s new, and who’s the odd one out?”
“Gramps, this is… my dad.”
“Oh! Actual Tyler, my Mark’s partner! Or is it Tyler Senior now that we’ve got Junior over here.”
All three of them swiveled to look at Vanderwood. “Actual Tyler?”
“Yes. My birth name. It’s Tyler Starkey.”
“Starkey?” Saeran looked pointedly between Gramps and Jaena, neither of whom responded to his silent question.
“That explains why you wanted your codename to be Stark.” Seven said knowingly.
“That also explains where Gramps came up with Tyler on the fly when he met Saeran.” Jaena said, smiling, her eyes filled with laughter.
“Ah! So your name is Saeran! Good to finally properly meet you. Can I keep calling you Junior?”
“Yes, sir.” Saeran said, smiling. “I think I’d like that.”
“And you, my dear. Have you decided on a name you’d like to keep, now that things have settled down?”
“Yes, I think I’ll be using my middle name, Jaena, from here out.”
“Ah, good choice. Cassandra has a weight to it that’s hard to carry. Will you be keeping the shop?”
“We’d like to. Dad here wants to take care of it while we go back and pack up the twins’ things in Seoul, and get Saeyoung moved here properly.”
“Saeyoung. That’s a mouthful.”
“It is! You could call me Seven if you like it better.”
“Part of your codename, I bet. Better than Tangerine any day. Did you know that he chose that name because it was the flavor of sparkling water he was drinking at the time? My idiot son could have ended up calling himself “Passionfruit” or something else idiotic.”
“If you’ll forgive me for asking.” Vanderwood said, catching his attention. “How do you know so much about Tangerine’s life? And about me?”
Gramps sighed, and took a sip of his coffee. “It’s a sad story, but a pretty simple one. Mark got caught up in something he wanted to keep me away from, but I raised the kid so I knew when he was hiding things, and eventually I just wore him down, so he told me about everything. He used to visit regularly, tell me things I definitely shouldn’t know. The apartment above the coffee shop was his, in fact, he worked from it for a time, until just before he started telling me about his daughter.” Gramps looked at Jaena and smiled warmly. “Yes, dear, I know you’re not his blood. Mark didn’t have a drop of Irish or Scots in him, and you come by your red naturally. And Actual Tyler - they call you Vanderwood, right? He was so proud of you as his partner. Was going to bring you by, but then things got a bit messy. Actually…” Gramps paused and looked at Seven carefully. “Oh, I see. You’re the kid.”
“Yeah.” Seven said, not even questioning it. “It’s my fault.”
“Don’t believe that bullshit.” Gramps said, and the old man swearing stunned the lot of them. “I know all about what your biological father tried to pull, and I’m proud of my son for standing up for what’s right even knowing the cost. Besides, I think he’d be overjoyed to know that you’re all together as a family these days.”
“We’re not a family, she just calls me Dad.” Vanderwood muttered.
“Keep telling yourself that, see if it works.” Gramps said with a smile.
“Hey, kids.” Vanderwood said, as they were making the short trek back to the shop. “We need groceries for dinner, and to check out of the motel Zero Seven and I were staying in. I’m taking Saeran with me to do those chores.”
Saeran nodded, as if they’d already discussed, though Jaena wasn’t sure how they could have.
“I could help with that.” Seven said, confused. “I should probably pack my own things, and…”
“Nah, I’ve got it.” Vanderwood said. “I don’t want to tear you two apart, and Jaena needs some quiet for a bit.”
Jaena looked over at Seven curiously and found him looking back at her with the same expression. She shrugged. She wouldn’t argue with some quiet, but it felt like Vanderwood and Saeran were conspiring to give the two of them some alone time. Which she was also fine with, but made her nervous as hell. Sure, she’d confessed her love for him, and he’d accepted her request to see both twins, but… they hadn’t really talked since then. Now she was nervous.
After dropping Seven and Jaena off, Vanderwood looked at Saeran, watching the younger twin carefully.
“Want to talk about it?” he said, quietly, and Saeran let out a small disparaging chuckle.
“Yes. Desperately.”
“Well, I’m here. I may not be a licensed therapist but I’m good at keeping my mouth shut. Go for it.”
“I feel like… like I’m taking everything that’s Saeyoung’s away from him. First, I put the girl he liked in danger for a shitty plan I knew better than to enact, just to try and find myself a way out of a garbage cult. Sure, sure, I didn’t know she was his already at that point, but I could have if I tried harder, I just assumed he wanted nothing to do with me, so I didn’t look for him in places I knew he’d be.” Saeran sighed. “And then, he saves her life, and they go on to work together to save mine. He gets shot because of me. She has to give up everything in her life, including my twin who she obviously is in love with, and start all over again because of me. And even still, I can’t help but fall in love with her because she’s so sweet, and caring and perfect.” Saeran cut himself off before he started crying, glaring at the snowy scenery out the window as though it was the reason for his feelings.
“You know, it’s entirely reasonable to develop feelings with someone you spend all of your time with exclusively for a year.” Vanderwood said quietly. “I mean look at me and Seven. I treat that idiot like my kid.”
“Pretty sure he’s dating your daughter, so…”
“I’m not her dad.”
“Given the paperwork she did? You totally are.”
“What?”
“This version of her birth certificate reads Cassandra Jaena Starkey. All Gramps asked her for was a middle name. We didn’t know that was your last name until you told us earlier.”
“That meddling idiot.” Vanderwood sighed. “Tangerine tried to convince me to get out of the agency and settle down. Raise a family. He made me promise that if I were ever a father, I’d give up that life and raise my daughter properly. At the time I thought he was an idiot - how could he know I’d have a girl? I should have known.”
“So how young were you when you supposedly fathered Jaena?” Saeran teased. He was honestly curious, partially because he was still uncertain of even an age range to place Vanderwood in.
“Given what I do and don’t know about how old she is…. Like sixteen?”
“Oof.”
“Yeah, well. Couldn’t ask for a better kid.”
“I mean you could ask, but no one would find one.”
Vanderwood laughed. “Accurate. You think you’re going to be okay? The three of you together like that?”
“We’ll be fine. If anyone can manage the both of us at once, it’s her. She’s… crazy, honestly, but she really is the best.” Saeran smirked, and then a thought hit him and he laughed outright.
“What?” Vanderwood asked, confused.
“They’re going to make me cosplay now. I just know it.”
Back in the apartment, Jaena took Seven’s coat and hung it up with hers. She was nervous. She hadn’t been nervous like this since the first time she’d had to change her own identity without Tangerine’s help.
“Scarlet?” Seven said softly, stepping into her personal space. “Is everything okay? You’re shaking.”
“You’re here.” she said, hoarsely, trying to force back the tears.
Seven wrapped his arms around her, silently grateful when she relaxed into his hold. “Of course I’m here. And I’m not leaving you again. Not ever.”
“Did you know that I loved you… before I had to leave?” She asked, and he sighed.
“In hindsight, I must have. I mean, the way you took care of me when I was in pain, and the level of trust it took for you to sleep in my arms, I just… I knew I wasn’t allowed to have anything like a relationship, and I was already cheating by having Saeran, and I didn’t want to look too closely at how I felt. When I got out of that room and realized you were really gone and I had no idea where you were… it broke me, and I couldn’t lie to myself about it anymore.”
“Leaving you broke me, too.” Jaena said, and squirmed so he’d loosen his grip, then grabbed his hand and led him over to the couch to they could at least sit comfortably.
“You don’t seem broken.” Seven said, when they settled, letting his hands flutter over her curves as if he were checking for problems. “It took months for me to be willing to even say your name, love.” She said, laying her head on his shoulder. “Saeran would start talking about you, mention how much he missed you, and I’d just shut off, stop responding. I hurt him so much with that, but I was so trapped in my own head about it. I was sure you were going to walk through that door, and every day you didn’t it just hurt so much.”
“I’m sorry it took me so long. I was an idiot.”
“No. I’m good at hiding. And I was so sure Tangerine would have told Vanderwood about Gramps, I took the fact that you weren’t showing up as proof you were gone forever.”
“Did you not see my Noprah thing? I told you I was coming. I know they replayed the hell out of that, at least in Seoul…”
“Oh. At least twice a week I saw it. There’s a girl who comes here regularly for coffee, her name is Liz. She and I are going to look like twins when I grow my hair back out.”
“I will be careful to not accidentally surprise hug her.” Seven said sagely.
“Haha, she’d probably love it, she thinks you’re cute. Her boyfriend on the other hand… would probably be cranky about it? I don’t know I’ve never talked to him.”
“How do you know that?” Seven said, confused.
“Noprah.” Jaena muttered, and Seven laughed.
After a few moments of silence, Jaena sighed. “Seven, are you really okay with me being in love with both you and your brother?”
Seven nodded. “Yeah. I mean, listen. Do I want to steal you all for myself sometimes and never let anyone else even see you? yeah. But… I love my brother too. Not the same way but like… I want him around. And it’s obvious how much you two care for each other. It would be cruel of me to deny you the closeness that trauma gifted you, right?”
“Well, yes, but…”
“No matter what you think, Scarlet, I don’t have the right to tell you who you can and can’t be in love with. I just… you’re choosing me. Where does it get cool to stop you from loving other people just because you chose to love me? What about in the future if we had kids, are you supposed to not love them?!”
“Well, I mean, romantic love and familial love are different.” Jaena said. “I mean, I love Vandy. But like, as my dad.”
“Yeah. Me too.” Seven said, looking around awkwardly. “He’s heckin important to me.”
“I know.” Jaena said, smirking. “I’m perfectly happy to share you with him, too.”
“When you put it like that, it makes me feel like an idiot for thinking you couldn’t love me anymore because you obviously love Saeran. When did humans get so bad at love?”
“A long damn time ago. Hell, women used to be possessions not people.”
“Well. That’s stupid and we’re not doing it. What other social constructs should we throw out the window while we’re at it?”

hobbies man..... First you get this expensive toy and just excitedly plop her down for any ol' snap to show off!
she arrived on October 4th aka the "The Rokkenjima Mass Murders" in Umineko fiction
Not content with the chara default outfit, the need to get moar clothes arises... That is basic doll-ownership at any age As a goof you make a dumb story outta it somehow (the Sewing GosuLoli mook .... ah thems was the days)
then the urge to get some props! (rad fact: these lil porcelain plates are older than me)
You start tryin to work the doll into local memes (snowpocalypse measurements. Others may use rulers or lawn ornaments etc etc)
feeling brave, you chance taking your precious Toy outside the confines of your room. Braving the outdoors 5ft away from the front door
....and before you know it, you are takin this Still Expensive Doll Mari out on adventures, interacting with other people and there's no goin back!
Planning out stories, making lil photoshoots, excitedly gushing about this new outfit thats on pre-order and ain't coming until like 9 months from now....
something something cosplay, something something pretty dolls etc etc "oh its for photography practice!" I answer for the n-th time when asked what am doin
.... almost gettin heatstroke, balancing on one knee in brambles ready to dive forward to catch the doll at any moment (will we get bloodpoisoning from some plant? .... lets not roll that luck stat), picking thorns outta the other exposed bits of elbow and fingertips....

Thank you all for your good anti-blizzard wishes. The update is, local school and university closings were announced last night. Everything looks fine right now, although it’s cold as fuck, but snow is forecast for later tonight. Maybe 9 pm—last night they said 10 pm Monday; the forecast keeps shifting earlier and earlier. Early tomorrow morning should be 17°F (Hella Below Freezing Celsius), which makes snow (and ice) extremely likely to stick.
My mom wishes to remind everyone of Snowpocalypse 2014,
where she ended up in the herd of cars stranded on the highway and had to walk back to her office with my brother-in-law, where they proceeded to spend the night in ergonomic desk chairs. She has kept an overnight bag in the trunk of her car ever since. Fortunately, this year, everyone in my family is already home and not going back out this week. Blessings upon work-from-home being common now.
… the forecast has been updated to 8 pm.
Here we fucking go

fashion While District Three is not particularly known for its cutting-edge fashion scene, Ellemora daydreams about the chance to live in the Capitol, with its shifting trends and avant-garde realness. She has a small collection tucked in the back of her closet of garments she's pinned and cut together, but they aren't anything like the grandeur she strives for.
video games Ellemora, like many young folk in her District, plays a solid amount of video games. Her taste is quite eclectic - ranging from life simulators like Panem Pals all the way to hard core, graphic fighting games like Pummelation - The Last Cannon. She actually competed in a Pummelation competition, placing third with her character of choice, Snowpocalypse.
painting Ellemora is a professional artist. That is to say, she paints and sells her artwork. Which is to say she puts a price tag on the things she paints. Is she good? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - it is not her job as the artist to define "good." Has she sold any works yet? Well, there is a gallery in the Capitol that she e-mailed a few months back, and she's waiting to see if they want to showcase her latest collection. They haven't replied yet, so everything is on hold right now. But if you're interested, she's sure she could figure out a price you could both agree on.
