THE OPENING LINES GAME

rules:

list the first lines of your last 15 stories (if you have less than 15, just list them all) ((I’m using WIPs y’all can’t stop me))

1. Gretchen starts picking her cuticles — the skin around her fingernails too — the summer between fifth grade and sixth, when they’re straddling the cusp between young and innocent children and harsh, hormonal preteens.

2. Heather thinks she became aware of the gravity of the situation — the distinct possibility that she may be in love with her best friend — over the summer between elementary and middle school, when Kurt and Ram want to play spin the bottle.

3. “I thought you were going to stand me up.”

4. Dishes were monotonous and easy compared to her hellish day, and Addison took comfort in the mindlessness of it all.

5. She wasn’t lying when she said she was falling more in love with them every second — not just the kids, but this dynamic of one big, happy family — and if she thought too long about the logistics, the tears would well up in her eyes.

6. There’s a floppy hat perched atop her perfectly curled and coiffed blonde hair, a cigarette hanging from her lips as she rummages through her center console for a pen.

7. Teddy’s eyes widened in shock as Amelia — very deliberately, judging by the way the corners of her lips were twitching from the sheer effort of containing one of her trademark smirks — sloshed her glass of wine until the deep red liquid splashed down the front of her very nice, very clean, very white sweater.

8. Fuck.

9. “It’s not my story to tell, Caddy.”

10. Addison was curled into the corner of Meredith and Derek’s couch, legs folded under herself in the corner that Meredith herself had once claimed before Addison-and-Mark had shaken up her and Derek’s life in the best way.

11. There was an air of thrumming anticipation surrounding them from the moment the elevator doors closed, shutting out the world around them for the first time that night, the chatter and buzz fading to a pleasant hum.

12. Sometimes she wonders how she got into this situation.

13. “I really want to kiss you right now.”

14. Oh.

15. If she had to bet — she’s not a betting woman, usually, the stakes were always too high — Regina would guess that everyone could see her true colors now.

SO. apparently I really hate introducing the main character in my opening lines lololol. I guess I like a nice variety of dialogue, straight up description, and single words that pack a punch.

My favorite line is probably the Gretchen one, just because I love the way it flows. Second favorite is absolutely “fuck” said/thought by Janis.

With different goals in mind, Asteria and Violet eventually parted their mutual ways. Weeks went by for the solo traveller (helping out others along the way) until she met two peculiar characters bantering at a crossroads. One was a childish, innocent-looking goat with products of nature covering her long blonde mane. The other was a more serious and mature earth pony with eyes that made Asteria curious and fascinated.

A feeling need to protect the goat from the world (and a craving for social interactions), Asteria joined their party and would soon find out that they all share something in common in some way. Whether that be from the story of their pasts or their goals for the future, they continued to share that bond throughout their adventure through thick and thin. In the end, Asteria thought whether she parts with them or not, she will always consider them as family until the end.

Day 5: Draw a pony enjoying your favorite food / Draw a pony family moment.

And if you think the above doesn’t make sense you’d be totally correct because I just vomited out words until it sounded fancy and made some sort of sense.

"And all he does is ask me and Izzie to bring him coffee and do scut for him," Alex grumbles, chomping on his sandwich, "And he thinks-"

You hate surprises.

Meredith is lying on the couch when Addison finally comes into the living room.

Meredith is thinking about steaks and wine and sex when it happens.

Meredith takes a look at herself in one of the hallway mirrors before stepping into the empty elevator. 

Meredith's temples hurt like she stabbed a scalpel in them, which would be worrying had she not gotten off a thirty-six hour shift (that was extended by another couple of hours because of a fight breaking out in the E.R. and extra hands being needed on deck.)

Three months. 

Meredith knows she is being fucking rude.

Meredith had never associated a color to a person before, never really understood when a girl in her embryology class had explained synesthesia to her.

"I want you ready on your knees when I come back," Addison had ordered, "Clothes off. Hair up. Understand?"

If Addison closes her eyes, she can picture herself sitting by the fireplace, tucked in her husband's arms, their friends and family moving around.

The buzzing in her bag alerts Meredith to her phone ringing, the music in the room far too loud to hear the ringtone.

okayyy so my pwps start randomly lol but the other fics (2, 4, 7, 9 esp) have more of a thematic thing going on.

My favourite opening is probably the one for bruises on my both my knees for you (no. 7). The opening line is just two words but I liked the structural aspect of it as a whole.
