Rom Com moments
Written for @steddieholidaydrabbles prompt: “Winter Sports” “Chill” WC: 798 rated: G summary: The spicy six go skiing and snowboarding, Eddie already knows how ao3
The day after the snowfall, the group went to the lodge up the road for some winter fun. Nancy, Robin, and Jonathon all decided to give skiing a try. Steve worried she’d get hurt, but Robin was confident she’d be fine. Argyle, Steve, and to everyone’s shock, Eddie, chose snowboarding. Argyle made sense, it was similar to surfing at least. Eddie was the wildcard. Everyone, except Argyle and Nancy, signed up for lessons, but when Steve asked him, Eddie smirked.
“I’m not a virgin, Stevie. I’ll be fine.” He cackled at Steve’s shocked face before he grabbed his board.
“Why did you say it like that?!” Steve yelled after him, but it fell on deaf ears. Robin slid in next to him.
“Do you think he really knows how to do it? Or is he trying to impress you?” She asked. Steve shrugged but Nancy laughed.
“The only reason he didn’t go pro is because my dad’s a dick.” At Steve’s questioning noise she continued. “When we were kids, we would take Eddie and his mom with us when we’d go skiing. When she died, my dad stopped bringing him. Said he only invited them for his sister. But really, it’s because he didn’t want to bring Wayne.” That last part came out full of venom. “And Eddie wouldn’t come without him.”
“That’s shit.” Robin spit much to the agreement of the others.
“Come on slowpokes!” Eddie yelled and the others ran to catch up with him. He grabbed Steve’s arm and pulled him in, adjusting his helmet. “This is precious cargo Stevie. You gotta protect it. Promise me?” He asked as he stared into his eyes.
“I promise” He whispered.
The three who knew what they were doing made their way to the lift, those who needed lessons, moved to the bunny hill. As much as Steve tried to pay attention to the teacher, his eyes kept drifting to the top of the mountain, waiting for his prince to come.
After a few minutes, his wish came true, almost like a movie. Eddie’s distinct winter jacket, black, with skulls hand stitched in, and his long hair hanging out of his helmet, stood out against the white snow as he barreled down the mountain. He crouched low to the ground and weaved in and out of the crowd.
Steve tried to remain calm, but when Eddie turned toward his bunny hill and used the one next to it like a ramp to launch himself into the air, all his blood rushed south. He did a quick 360 spin before he landed and iced Steve with snow.
Eddie pushed his goggles up onto the top of his helmet and smirked at Steve. “How are the lessons?” He asked cool as a cucumber as he bent to unhooked his boots from the board before he held it vertically.
“Fine!” Steve squeaked. He coughed quickly, “I mean, they’re fine. You look good out there.” He said trying to appear unbothered. It worked for about two seconds before the kid who was currently using the bunny hill lost control. He pin wheeled his arms and pulled out of the instructor’s grip.
Without warning, Eddie jumped into action. Like it was a skateboard, he tipped the snowboard over and jumped on, gliding over fast as a bullet to swoop the kid up before he could fall. “You good little man?” He asked as he helped guide the kid back to the instructor. If Steve had ovaries, they’d explode.
“Chill.” Robin whispered to him smugly.
“I’m so chill thank you.” He said haughtily.
“You guys having fun?” Eddie asked as he moved back over. Robin launched into a whole ramble about it all but Steve didn’t take his eyes off Eddie.
He knocked the snow off the board now safely leaning up once again. There was a pink and orange light behind him, with bubbles and glitter sparkling around his face. When he laughed at something Robin said, he moved as if in slow motion.
“What about you Stevie?” Eddie asked with a raised eyebrow yanking Steve back to reality.
“Oh! Yeah!” Steve blurted out and immediately flushed at Eddie’s smirk.
“Cool. Let’s go then.” He smiled and began walking to the lift. Shit. He quickly turned to Robin.
“What did I just agree to?” He whispered harshly.
“Going down a green trail with him.” Jonathon said on his other side. He jumped a foot in the air.
“Jesus! Where did you come from?” He glared, only to see Nancy and Argyle there too. “Have you been there the whole time?” He asked.
“Dude, we came down right behind Eddie. You didn’t see us?” Nancy asked.
“He was pretty distracted.” Robin said with a smirk. He huffed, embarrassed, and followed Eddie to the lift.

So I’ve made a few references to Steve being an Excel guy as an adult (because someone had to be in charge of Steve and Eddie’s money and it certainly wasn’t going to be Eddie).
He’s got the classic spreadsheets – monthly budget, college savings projections, income tracking because he and Eddie both work jobs with variable incomes (Steve is a counselor and Eddie is an author), the whole nine yards.
Steve also has some “extracurricular” spreadsheets. I’ve talked about how Steve has a spreadsheet tracking the combinations of Mario Kart racers/vehicles he tries out (there’s a ranking system involved, it’s very complex). He’s got one for his fantasy football league, obviously, and he and Moe put money on their March Madness brackets so there’s a spreadsheet for that too.
Eddie’s personal favorite is the one comparing monthly expenses by kid, which isn’t exactly a necessary metric per se, but from it stems a game Steve and Eddie secretly play: who is the most expensive Harrington daughter?
The winner tends to rotate throughout the year, but Hazel is usually their least expensive child in the long run. She does ballet, which isn’t too bad when she’s little but then she graduates to pointe shoes, and Steve had no idea that not only do pointe shoes set you back $100 minimum, they also wear out ridiculously fast, and, as he’s been told many times, you can’t wear the dead ones.
Moe usually takes that top spot in the winter – elite basketball teams aren’t cheap by any stretch of the imagination, and then in high school she gets into snowboarding, which is somehow even more expensive. She’s also consistently the reason they hit their health insurance deductible every year.
Robbie is their overall most expensive kid by a mile. She drove up their car insurance by getting into an accident a month after she got her driver's license, had braces for five years, and the prescription on her glasses has changed every eighteen months since she was seven. She’s notorious for breaking her phone, so she racks up quite a tab in that regard too (the one year they got a protection plan was also the one year she had no phone-related incidents, so they didn’t even bother renewing it – they just make her suffer with a cracked screen for a few months before they finally drag her to the mall to get it fixed). There’s also the year Eddie bought her an electric violin which was, naturally, not cheap (Eddie argues it shouldn’t count because he was the brains behind that operation).

Eddie reached a hand out and gently tucked his fingers under Steve’s chin, tilting it upwards and turning Steve’s face just a little to the side as he observed something on Steve’s face with a look of intense speculation. Steve couldn’t say for certain, but there was almost a tiny bit of anger there just along the edges, like he was stifling away anger at whatever it was that he was looking at.
Surely he wasn’t looking at the-

Eddie has three major rules when it comes to working with celebrities: 1. don’t flirt with the talent; 2. don’t hang out with the talent; 3. don’t, under any circumstances, fuck the talent.
He’s had enough rockstars’ managers kick him out of hotel rooms after waking up to an empty bed with cold sheets to have learned his lesson ten times over by now.
He doesn’t even think of adding a fourth rule: don’t fall in love with the talent. Has never even come close to needing a rule like that. Not until he meets Steve Harrington.

Consensual Catfishing
foresthearts
When Eddie gets a message on instagram from an account claiming to be the famous pop-star Steve Harrington, he knows immediately it's a catfish. He's not dumb. The account has no pictures and people like Steve Harrington don't just randomly DM guys like Eddie.
Still. What would be the harm in letting it play out? It's not dangerous if he knows he's being catfished. No, if he knows about it, then it's basically like a fun little roleplay. No harm, no foul.

The break-up had been messy, and long overdue by the time it happened; Eddie had spent the better part of two years avoiding everything in the news including Steve's name, half convinced that Steve hadn't ever loved him at all. So, why was Chrissy sending him an interview that Steve had done at some talk show?

That is, until the most beautiful man he’s ever seen in his life sits in the seat next to him, unfurling a giant map that easily shields both of them. Eddie’s fucking savior.

Steve Harrington has acted in many romance movies over the years but finds himself yearning for that same kind of love in real life. Eddie Munson has had a rough go of it -- broken-hearted and uninspired, he decides to leave everything behind in San Francisco and spend some time with his uncle in a small town in the mountains.
