You, Exalted player. Having trouble naming your new character or NPC? As far back as first edition, you could have fired up Voidstate's Exalted Name Generator* and gotten a couple dozen names, easy, and only a small percentage of them would be "Moon Moon" or "of of of of of". But some time in the past year or so, that site went down and now we're back to naming things by hand.
However.
Courtesy of the Wayback Machine and some minor skullduggery, I've pulled the list of words used to populate that generator. You'll find them, unedited except for formatting**, below the cut. Scroll around and you're sure to find some nouns, adjectives, and verbs that'll make your character or charm name feel sufficiently Exalted-y.
*I am in no way associated with the original creator. I did not make this list; I only seek to preserve it.
**Original spelling has been preserved, because it is possible that (in some cases) archaic spellings were included intentionally. If something looks weird, look it up, use your judgement, blame it on Old Realm.

So my little sister carried her TV from her room and to the table in the kitchen because she wanted to watch Kung Fu Panda with me. So I had the TV like two feet away from my face while eating. 😅 But that's not what I want to mention. I remembered another reason why I liked the movie so much as a kid. The Furious Five just being there, even when they aren't talking. For a film that has over six characters, it's common to have a good chunk of characters not being relevant to the plot. It's always an issue most films or shows have, too many characters fighting for the spotlight.
Another reason I love THE LAST WISH!!! Look, I'm still gushing about the film and I must mention the film every chance I get. But yeah, The Last Wish had eight characters and each one was fun and important. So maintaining a lot of characters is always a challenge.
Back on topic!!! So while the five do get pushed in the back a lot, I love how the creators take advantage of that. The five are just doing their thing, chilling, adding in a comment here and there, and when they're needed, it's beyond awesome to see how they use their animalistic behavior to fight! I love to see them fight as a team because of the way they combine their moves and use their animal features to defeat their enemies. Tigress growls, shows her teeth, and claws at the enemies, and her moves are just tiger-like. Po throws his weight around and bounces like a ball or bounces things off of him. Moneky swings around all playful like monkeys do. But my two favorites have to be Viper and Crane, for the creativity. The two don't exactly have the anatomy the others have. But I love how they're used in the fights. Crane's wings being a shield and are used to create wind. And I just love how Viper is chill with being used as a rope from time to time. 🤣 This girl has been pulled at by Po so many times, it's a miracle she's still in one piece. And I just love that manipulation of the body she can do. Making Tai Lung punch himself or using one of the wolves in the 2nd film as a puppet to fight. I just adore it. And then we have the way they handcuff those two in the 2nd film. Really, they go for Crane's neck? 😂 And I'm sure Viper can slip out but instead she's just struggling and using her head to drag the cuffs on her tail. Another scene I like, in the scene where Shen is shooting down the building with Po and the five in it, I just like looking at how they move around. Monkey is a monkey so he's swinging down to safety on the lanterns. In the scene where they're being shot at by arrows, I love the way Viper slithers up in a zig-zag way, completely avoiding the arrows that almost pinned her to the wall. And then the factory scene, I love the way Tigress hisses at the gorillas and wolves like a cat. They're just FUN to look at!!! I love it!!!
And what I also love is how we get hints of their personalities without them having to take the spotlight or have many lines. From the very beginning, you can tell what they're like from their reactions to Po being the Dragon Warrior. Mantis and Monkey are the goofballs of the team. They tease Po about his weight and joke about it. They like making snarky remarks as well, like Mantis laughing at how Po will never stop bouncing on the stairs. Only to get hissed at by Viper to shut up. This brings me to Crane and Viper. They're more caring and concerned. For being a snake, Viper doesn't hold any personality traits you would associate with a snake. She's the one who silences Manti's remarks. She's the one that shows the most concern for Po because she doesn't want him to get hurt as The Dragon Warrior. Which is understandable because he is inexperienced. While Crane does comment on Po's weight, it is mostly out of disappointment for not being chosen. And when he sees how upset Po gets when he tells him he doesn't "belong here." Crane covers it up right away by saying he doesn't belong in his room. Careful to not hurt Po's feelings. Then we have Tigress who does not hesitate to tell Po off by telling him he doesn't belong in the Jade Palace at all. She's ruthless, serious, and can be cold.
And then we have gestures and facial expressions. I have to mention Monkey and how he moves around. Using his surroundings like a jungle gym. And I found it adorable how he uses Cranes hat as a shield for protection against the arrows in the 2nd film. He's just a goof. I love Cranes hat, it adds a lot of personality to him. When it hides his face it makes him look intimidating and mysterious. But the moment you see his face, he's just this little soft ball of shy sunshine. 😂 I already mentioned Viper enough but I love how she always, and I mean always, has a worried expression. And her habit of planting kisses on her friends. End credits to the 1st film, she plants a kiss on Po's cheek, in the Secret of the Five she kisses Tigress when she gets knocked out and calls her sweetie. I just love how affectionate she is. Then we have Tigress, who seems to be the leader/protector of the group. I just love how she carries Po around during battles, in the 2nd film when they jump off the falling tower and land on the roofs, you can see Tigress catching Po and throwing him to the next roof. And she's like this to the others as well. 2nd film, in the scene after Crane breaks his wing, the five make it to the bottom of the tower before it falls. You can see Tigress holding onto Crane like an injured bird, duh, before gently placing him down and going to check on Po. I just love the little we get from her. Emotionless but she protects her friends.
I think I said all I need to say. I just love this franchise so much and I had to dig at every detail I could. So what was the point of this post?
I WANT TO SEE MORE OF THE FURIOUS FIVE IN THE 4TH FILM BECAUSE IN THE 3RD FILM AND THE SHOWS JUST SET THEM ASIDE! OR ELSE I WILL DISAPPEAR INTO THE OCEAN AND NEVER COME BACK UNTIL THE 5TH FILM!!!!

New novel idea
This one should be about an elite demon hunter who works alone and nobody in the top demon hunting industry even knows him, but he is very powerful and strong and can slay demons very fast because he is that powerful. The trick is...that he's a demon himself. Should include him going to some demon hunting banquets and maybe some humans who think they're good decide to have a demon hunting fight with me but they don't know how truly strong he is, and he defeats them instantly. Maybe I'll add in a bit of them going out demon hunting with him, then they face a powerful demon, and the humans use a powerful demon weapon smoke to neutralise and poison the powerful demon, but because he is a demon as well, it ends up hurting him badly.
Update:
Ok so anyway to break the Chosen One cliche, I've decided to have had him fight in the battle of the great dragon as one of the minor demons, one of the thousand demons who fought alongside the real Chosen one-who did absolutely nothing at all, but gets all the credit anyway cos he's the chosen one. He's the last surviving demon of the thousand demons, and wields the Sacred Dragon's Kismet, the Blazing Pheonix's Kismet, the Mighty Snake's Kismet, the Howling Wolf's Kismet, the Glorious Tiger's Kismet, the Rampaging Lion's Kismet, etc etc. He collected all of these Kismets from the rest of the thousand demons who died; when they died, they passed their Kismets on to him.
A Kismet is a divine spirit's power that allows you to harness the power of said divine spirit. Sort of like the Mantis Warrior's talismans but internal.
He should maybe be infected with the Rancorous Dragon's poison, that causes him great pain, but he can use its powerful poisoning capabilities to poison his enemies in battle.
A Mantis Warrior is a human who obtains a talisman containing a god's power, and can use the god's power in battle, but it is still limited to what the god allows them to do.
Bigger Update:
A shapeshifter who has identity issues. One of the thousand demons who fought with the chosen one, infected with the Rancorous Dragon's poison.
(He definitely wasn't inspired by Welt but because I don't wanna put a picture of him here I put up Bronya instead)
The Chosen One's Shadow: Loves to psychologically torture people, but not in the way you'd expect: Example:
A guy who's been hunting him for being a demon comes to his lair with his entire army, and of course, being the Chosen One's Shadow, he quickly defeats everyone in that army, but the guy quickly has him cornered against the edge of a cliff into a lava pit, strangling him by the neck. However, to play the psychology game against him, he asks him why he wants to kill him. He responds by trying to finish him off, but the Chosen One's Shadow stops him with magical powers, saying that if he answers him he will allow him to kill him. So the guy says that because he is a demon, he will harm others and so he must kill him. The Chosen One's Shadow then asks him to look at his fallen, dead and injured army, and asks him if it is truly worth it to sacrifice so much just trying to kill him. He responds saying that anything is worth it to kill him. The Chosen One's Shadow then erupts into raucous laughter, with the guy attempting to finally strangle him to kill him once and for all. The Shadow then tells the guy that if he wants to test him if he really thinks it is truly worth it. The guy demands an explanation for whatever that means. He says that he will give him an empire to govern and with him being the king, he can do everything he wants with that power. So here's the catch: Everytime he does something that is even remotely beneficial to himself, someone has to die for that. (i.e everytime he takes a breath because he's taking oxygen to breathe and live, someone will die). The Shadow says that he will allow him to kill him if he can bear to kill everyone in his empire without killing himself. Everyone in the empire are living, breathing humans, who all have dreams and aspirations and a bright future ahead of then blah blah blah. The Shadow then uses his magical powers to break free from the grasp of the guy, traps him in the empire, and jumps into the lava pit (being a demon, he cannot die from that), laughing that he will not be able to complete the test. At the start it might have been ok at first, but after a while (if the guy truly is kind-hearted) he will not be able to take the guilt anymore, and will kill himself eventually. (also add on hallucinations of dead people he indirectly killed by living and frequent news reports of those people worded in the most guilt-tripping way possible)
The Chosen One's Shadow is also the type to laugh maniacally at a funeral or in a patient's ICU while the relatives are all grieving or praying hard and scream something like "HAHAHA SO FUNNY SIA EH I NEED SNACKS LEH EH YOU SAY LIKE THE FAMILY CRY SO HARD AHAHHAAHAHAHAH" and then when the fanily confronts him angrily he'll either kill the patient if they're still alive, disfigure the patient if they care a lot about looks or if they're already dead, or make puppetry out of the dead body and make the body do funny things. Then when the family finally cannot take it anymore and start to get physical, then he beats them all up so badly and disfigures all of them badly. Then even when they're still so mad after being disfigured and beaten up badly and want revenge and demand to continue fighting him, he'll hijack whoever he thinks is the most loving family member's body, and control both him and the original dead body's puppet to fight their family, throwing powerful punches against their own mother/daughter/son/father/whatever while laughing maniacally, until everyone else except for the one he controlled is dead. Then he forces the body to run away and not turn himself in (to add on psychological torture) until they eventually kills himself because of the guilt (he'll also add on hallucinations of the dead family members for extra guilt)

How about some templates?
Sorry about just putting up masterposts, but IRL things have been absolutely bonkers so I haven’t had much time to crank out actual content recently. This will probably be the last one of these I do barring specific requests like monsters/items, so if you don’t care about links to content you’ve already seen you won’t have to deal with it much longer. Anyway, here are 65 templates to help you customize characters even further. An Introduction to Templates Bestiathrope (were-creature) Templates - Bufothrope (were-toad) - Carcharothrope (were-shark) - Cephalothrope (were-octopus) - Chirothrope (were-bat) - Coleothrope (were-beetle) - Crocothrope (were-crocodile) - Lycanthrope (were-wolf) - Mantothrope (were-mantis) - Nidothrope (were-spider) & optional insanity rules - Rodenthrope (were-rat) - Serpethrope (were-snake) - Susothrope (were-boar) - Tigrathrope (were-tiger) - Ursathrope (were-bear) Conceptual Bleed Templates (this idea is incomplete and only a few templates have been finished for it at this time) - Arcane - Consumption - Corruption - Death Demon Gifted (Forgotten Realms Specific Templates) - Baphomet the Horned King - Demogorgon the Sibilant Beast - Graz’zt the Dark Prince - Juiblex the Faceless Lord - Lolth the Demon Queen of Spiders - Orcus the Blood Lord - Yeenoghu the Beast of Butchery - Zuggtmoy the Fungal Queen Half-Races (replacement for races such as half-elves and half-orcs) - Brute (half-orc) - Demigoblin (half-hobgoblin) - Demihuman - Dragonkin (half-dragonborn/draken) - Faeri (half-elf) - False Giant (half-ogre) - Giantkin (half-giant) - Greenie (half-firbolg) - Gremlin (half-goblin) - Grendel (half-troll) - Mul (half-dwarf) - Podge (Half-gnome) - Primitive (half-bugbear) - Quarterling (half-halfling) - Skinwalker (half-changeling) - Tallfolk (half-goliath) Outside Cultist Templates - Cultist template: Azhi Dahakauh, the Last Dragon - Cultist template: B’uilz’gath, the Spider Queen - Cultist template: Carcharos, the Hunger & detailed cult write-up - Cultist template: Father Vyle - Cultist template: Maloz Gomat, the Bone Merchant - Cultist template: Morrow - Cultist template: O’cun, the Ever-Seeker - Cultist template: Pyramid of Red - Cultist template: Termina Genesis, the Beginning - Cultist template: The Bane-lich, Malaz’ghul - Cultist template: The Blood Count, Endeimion - Cultist template: The Black - Cultist template: Uthu’vhun, the Deep One - Cultist template: Windego, Master of the Mountain - Cultist template: Xaraxxus, the Vile Sun - Cultist template: Xebbusohtir, the End Plane-Touched (Replacement for Aasimar, genasi, and tiefling races) - Abyss-touched - Air-touched - Angel-touched - Eath-touched - Fire-touched - Water-touched General Templates - Clockwork - Death-Touched - Dhampire - Foon’gai

PDX101 “spirit animals” of the Top 20
Y’all this is info that you never knew you wanted. But trust me, you want it. 😂
I looked up all of the Top 20′s primal signs (which is when you combine the astrological zodiac sign with the Chinese zodiac sign) and this is what each person’s animal is:
20.) SEJIN / Aries + Rat = Piranha / yikes, that’s a little scary
19.) TONY / Leo + Horse = Hyena / lol when I think hyena my impression is that they are high-strung and kinda crazy...
18.) WONJIN / Aries + Snake = Praying Mantis / hmm, maybe Wonjin is more cutthroat than he first appears. But then again, isn’t it the female praying mantis that cuts off the male’s head? So either he’s cutthroat or he’s whipped.
17.) YUVIN / Taurus + Tiger = Wolf / Yuvin being a combo of a bull and a tiger is going to surprise NO ONE. Makes absolute sense to me. Wolf fits him. Magnetic, aggressive, but also an animal that likes to operate as part of a pack. I think he cares a lot about groupmates.
16.) HANGYUL / Sagittarius + Rabbit = Sugar Glider / I’ve never in my life even heard of a sugar glider but I just googled it and, you guys, it is all kinds of adorable, Makes me think of how Lee Dongwook is always trying to make Hangyul do aegyo.
15.) JUNGMO / Aquarius + Dragon = Leopard / Wow, ok Jungmo. That sounds wild and sexy.
14.) MINHEE / Virgo + Horse = Giraffe / I can see that because as a competitor he’s not very carnivorous (as in not that aggressive) but he stands out in his own way
13.) YUNSEONG / Scorpio + Dragon = Jaguar / Jungmo and Yunseong are a pair of very similar wildcats apparently. But jaguars are bigger.
12.) DONGPYO / Virgo + Horse = Giraffe / Same as Minhee. Dang it. I was really hoping none of them would have the same animal. I see Dongpyo as more of a baby giraffe than a full grown giraffe, like he can already walk far but sometimes still has some baby giraffe awkwardness.
11.) JUNHO / Cancer + Horse = Hermit Crab / LOL awww. Little hermit crab Junho has come out of his shell a lot through this show though!
10.) DONGHYUN / Taurus + Ram (or sheep or goat) = Panda / That’s really cute. Who doesn’t love pandas.
9.) EUNSANG / Scorpio + Horse = Dragonfly / Always on the move, always flitting around trying stuff
8.) HYEONGJUN / Sagittarius + Horse = Dove / It figures that Hyeongjun would end up with something small and pure. Confrontations make Hyeongjun cry. He wants to make peace, not war.
7.) DOHYUN / Scorpio + Monkey = Raven / interesting because it seems like a dark and poetic creature which fits the image of a rapper well
6.) SEUNGYOUN / Leo + Rat = Otter / So...you’re telling me he’s playful, social, cute and intelligent and that he’s also sleek and agile when in his element? I’m done. That’s perfect.
5.) MINKYU / Pisces + Snake = Frog / I don’t really know what I think of when I think of frogs. He does have big eyes and skinny arms and legs. Oh wait wait! Frog prince! Duh. That’s what I associate with frogs.
4.) SEUNGWOO / Capricorn + Dog = Boxer (dog) / I’m stumped. I know nothing about Boxers. A good companion? Loyal and protective? Seriously though I know nothing.
3.) JINHYUK / Gemini + Rat = Chipmunk / Brb, dying from laughter. Jinhyuk the chipmunk. It’s hilarious but it’s not wrong!!! He’s energetic and chatter-y and he’s super responsible. Jinhyuk Chipmunk may bob around in his Olaf costume but he will also be that guy who will work his chipmunk tail off getting dem nuts stored away for winter.
2.) WOOSEOK / Libra + Rat = Vulture / Dannnnngggg. OK, yeah I can see it if you think of Wooseok being cool and hard to ruffle. Also vultures seem very intelligent. But one more thing. Wooseok’s birthday is on the last day of Libra so his personality will also have a lot of the next sign (Scorpio). And Scorpio + Rat = Anaconda. A combo of Vulture and Anaconda! Whoa. Wooseok is DANGEROUS as HECK! The imagery of vulture and anaconda fits his Love Shot performance so much.
1.) YOHAN / Virgo + Rabbit = Earthworm / Earthworm. What the~~? FREAKIN’ EARTHWORM? REALLY?!? Why does everybody else get cool or adorable animals? Maybe it means he’s very gentle and down to earth? (True). But the funny thing is Wooseok is not the only one with a birthday on the cusp. Not to be outdone, Yohan’s birthday is also on the cusp so he also gets bonus traits. His bday is the last day of Virgo which means he’s got a lot of Libra in him. Libra + Rabbit = Butterfly. Butterflies are like social, lighthearted. They also make people think of transformation which makes sense because Yohan’s skills have really evolved and blossomed during this span of time.
There you have it folks. Our battle for center is between a vulture/anaconda and an earthworm/butterfly. In one corner we have small animals that represent warmth, lightness, airiness and the stages of life and in the other corner we have large animals that represent coolness, darkness, strangulation and death. How did this happen? 😂😂I could not have made this up if I tried.
I should not have looked this up. Now I’m picturing all of them like Pokemon trainers with these animals sitting on their shoulders or hovering around.

Skull and Shackles-part one
Hello everyone! Stuck here in quarantine after finishing college (graduation, woot!) and decided to practice my heavily rusting fictional writing skills. Skull and Shackles is an Adventure Path from Pathfinder Roleplaying Game® owned by Paizo. The only thing I own is the original characters. Any writing advice would be welcomed. Hope you enjoy.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
This adventure does not start with the busy chatter of a tavern, no heroic call to arms against some great evil, not even with being arrested by a government that didn’t appreciate this group for sticking their noses where they don’t belong. This adventure starts with a dark room. The sensation of swaying and an incredible headache that may have either been accompanied by the taste that numbs the tongue or a whack. Impressment wasn’t just restricted to the Cheliax Navy, it extended to pirates as well. It’s been known that Press Gangs are known to skulk about inns, taverns, the streets at night and even pluck unsuspecting men and women from their very beds after a short chat concerning their sailing ability. That was the situation for this group of adventurers.
The first to awaken was a catfolk thief named Gumqu, a lanky feline looking humanoid creature with the head, paws, and tail of a cat. With grey peach fuzz and mismatched blue and gold eyes, she looked about to try and remember how she had gotten there. Ah, yes. She had just returned from her latest voyage on the Old Renegade”, a ship that she had served for 5 years working on the rigging. Coming across a rather fat merchant ship, she decided rather foolishly to spend her earnings alone at the Formidably Maid a rather popular pirate tavern. Gumqu absent-mindedly rasped her tongue against her sleeve to take away the numbing and bitter taste off her tongue, feeling rather embarrassed to having fallen for such an old press-gang tactic. At least she can feel the outline of her thieves’ tools in her hidden pocket. Another from the pile stirred with a curse and a spit, human looking and irate to boot.
Anne Salis angrily looked about with dark eyes, cursing her luck and possibly fate for not being careful. Her husband always did warn her against drinking at the Formidably Maid with all those wayward pirates. Being the resident shaman for the Besmara, there was a priest though he took a 12-year fishing trip and had not returned yet, it wasn’t uncommon to getting free drinks from old salts who appreciated fair weather charms. She shook her headful of honey curls and clutched her unprotected scalp when the throbbing headache was aggravated by her swift movements. They took her hat but not her dagger in her belt, typical. She gnashed her sharp teeth and tried to stand but was prevented by the moving room and tangled bodied. Nevertheless, with that she inadvertently kicked a rather large half-orc in the ribs, shocking him to consciousness.
Ausk Oddfellow never failed to live up to his name. A shocking giant that can easily take up the length of the room. He slowly sat up while rubbing his now smarting side, looking like a picture out of those risqué nobles’ romance novels. Tall and muscular with a tiny waist, the symbol of Cayden Cailean (a flagon) hung around his neck and slightly messy black hair caused by the welt in the back of the head. He was tavern hopping, singing about various pirates and legends with his bestest best mate in all the world, Skender, who always works in his dark little alchemy shop. So, as any best friend would do, he dragged with away for a good time and maybe show him the meaning of fun. Well, on the way from Suffering Tiger Pub, The Boot and Helm, The Forest and Shield, Hovering Drake and The Clam and Whale Tavern, and the Formidably Maid, there was a scuffle in a dark alley between 2 blokes and a lady. Being the dashing bard that he is, of course he rushed to the rescue. Right before being knocked on the back of the head. Hard. He quickly looked around in panic! Where’s Skender?! As he is reaching over, his hulking green mass squished the figure next to him, causing an indignant shout.
Now Mordren Paella was typical for a pit-born tiefling; some had one or two minor imperfections that can be easily hidden or explained away, some are more…drastic. The only normal features she possessed was her height, black hair usually tied back and olive skin. Unfortunately, her abnormalities were drastic enough to detract from those features. From golden cat eyes, exposed fang-like teeth that frame her entire jaw, a left arm that resembled a blue dragon’s claw, bird’s legs to the barbed snake’s tail. Many had expressed that she was most likely the product of a god after a very heavy night of drinking. She was a witch that worked on various pirate ships as a cook. Never had a bad reference and no complaints with her small book of recipes that she can feel she still had on her person. She had left her hometown of Ilizmagorti, due to the heightened Red Mantis activity, to Port Peril. To celebrate, she went for a small meal and drink for the smooth trip. Seeing some sketchy characters at the corner of the tavern she and decided to leave, until the world started spinning and the floor was incoming fast. Nearby her was a rather angry “Must you be such a bumbling bugbear? Move over, you green lummox” a thwack barely missing her head and swatting the half-orc’s back.
The person in question was Skender Korzha; a half elf with mocha skin and high contrasting white tattoos on his arms that appeared arcane in origin. His black hair was halfway taken out of his ponytail and he feels a crick in his lower back after hours in an odd position. He knew that he should not have gone out with Ausk. Nothing ever goes well when he goes out with him. Granted, he is a flamboyant, needlessly boisterous, optimistic glass ¾’s full kind of bard but really he’s not a bad friend. However, based on the pounding headache and possible concussion, he’s gotten them into trouble again. He needed that brain, damn it. He checks himself to find what he had left, only to find a health kit. Wonderful. Trying to pull himself to sit up, he felt his sleeping leg being weighed down by someone who may just have beaten his friend in height.
The last in this room was a peculiar species of troll called the Va’al, hailing from the islands closer to Freeport. Though not nearly as muscular as Ausk, Hau'ri’s musculature was overshadowed by the sheer height. This was hidden by him being currently curled on the floor of this room. He slowly sits up and rubs his sore jaw, luckily his tusks were still intact for they were a pain to regrow, almost as bad as a leg or the inconvenience of a missing finger when you only have a max of 3 to start with. The only hair was the short light blue fur covering him from head to toe, bat like ears ringing from the beating he received just the other…time? Honestly, he doesn’t know what time it, not that it matters. His amber eyes scanning the room, satisfied that there’s more than him in this situation. He clenches his fist and quickly hides the brass knuckles that he always kept on him, chuckling at his luck.
It was at that time; a series of heavy footsteps came from above to then slam the door open violently. Bright light pouring from the handheld lantern blinds everyone inside, causing some to curse and some to hiss in discomfort.
““Still abed with the sun over the yardarm? On your feet, ye filthy swabs! Get up on deck and report for duty before Cap’n Harrigan flays your flesh into sausage skins and has Fishguts fry ye up for breakfast!” roared the stranger. He stands tall in typical pirate garb, this human male had probably has seen salt water more often than clear water used for more than cooking or drinking. Skin cracked from long days in the sun and gold teeth gleaming in a cruel smile as he used his whip to motivate everyone onto their feet. This took a bit of time before the group proceeded to follow him up the stairs of the ship.
As they were walking, Anne spat on the ground to her right, finally deciphering the taste in her mouth as taggit oil. A favorite of press gangs if they think they can get away with it. Put it in spicy food or particularly strong grog and you have between 1 to 3 hours with a dead to the world body. Cheap, easy to obtain and hard to overcome when ingested. Both Hau’ri and Ausk must bend down to clear their heads from hitting the beams above.
Once they’ve reached the top they were once again blinded, this time by the tropical sun hanging high in the sky. Looking about, they find themselves surrounded, 10 pirates not including the one that guided them there and ocean as far as the eye can see. Some were up in the rigging while others were scattered about on deck, all stopped to gawk at the new arrivals. Skender looks at the ship and can tell that it’s a three-masted sailing ship, 100 feet long from stem to stern, and 30 feet wide amidships. Decent but just one person short of manning it effectively without hardship. At the ship’s mainmast, on a high platform than the confused party in question, there stood two individuals. One was a broad, muscular human man with Garundi descent; a shaven head, long beard bound with braids and gold rings, and an eye patch. Based on his standing and finery, this was the captain in charge. The other to his right was a younger, balding man with a long black ponytail, wearing a long coat and carrying a well-used cat-o’-nine-tails.
The group was corralled towards the middle with 4 other recruits, a red headed human woman with a lovely tricornered hat, a muscular halfling brunette that could possibly bench-press Ausk, a human male with a blue varisian scarf wrapped around his head to protect his scalp and a rather fabulous male gnome bedecked in dandy purple attire. While the group was placed in a row, the captain smirked and finally addressed them.
“Glad you could join us at last!” his rasping voice bellowed over the crashing waves “Welcome to the Wormwood! My thanks for ‘volunteering’ to join my crew. I’m Barnabas Harrigan. That’s Captain Barnabas Harrigan to you, not that you’ll ever need to address me. I have only one rule—don’t speak to me. I like talk, but I don’t like your talk. Follow that rule and we’ll all get along fine.” He made his way to walk away, paused and spoke over his shoulder, “Oh, and one more thing. Even with you new recruits, we’re still short-handed, and I aim to keep what crew I have. There’ll be a keelhaulin’ for anyone caught killin’ anyone. Mr. Plugg!” addressing the man with the ponytail “If you’d be so kind as to make pirates out of these landlubbers, it’ll save me having to put them in the sweatbox for a year and a day before I make pies out of ’em.” Before walking away from sight. The new overseer, Mr. Plugg, descends to the Amidships where they stood.
“Now” he unhooked the cat-o’-nine-tails from his belt as he surveys the crew-to-be. “Time to see where you lot belong.”

Monk Week: Martial Arts Styles
There are many real-life examples of martial arts that you can pull from to describe your attacks and moves when roleplaying a monk. It’s definitely more flavorful to specialize in one technique so that other players can imagine how your character moves. A Muay Thai monk is going to move a lot differently than an Aikido monk. Think of how distinctly the four different nations in Avatar: the Last Airbender fight. There’s even a short behind-the-scenes video about them. Figure out what sort of style you want to use and that can help you flesh out your monk. Look up some tutorials on moves and styles unique to your martial art and use for your character! All it takes is watching a few online tutorials or demonstrations; it's not like we are giving up roleplaying to learn secret martial arts for forty years. Here is an exhaustive list of well-known martial arts that exist from around the world:
http://www.blackbeltwiki.com/martial-arts-styles
Here are some of my favorites (click the names for videos):
Aikido: Japanese. Focuses on evasion, joint locks, and redirecting attacks away from you. Looks sort of like dancing.
Bajiquan: Chinese. bursts of energy and powerful elbow strikes. Movement is slow and melodic but punctuated by powerful, lightning-fast strikes.
Canne de Combat: French. sporting cane fighting. I mostly just want to see a gentleman monk.
Capoeira: Brazilian. Dance fighting.
Hung Ga: Chinese. Many styles based on animals. (Crane, Dragon, Leopard, Snake, Tiger)
Iaijutsu: Japanese. Art of drawing a sword; many forms.
Kung Fu (Monkey): Ape-like movements to attack from surprising angles or to fool opponents into thinking you are off-balance. This is where the Drunken Master style comes from. Also if you haven't seen that Jackie Chan movie shame on you.
Kung Fu (Praying Mantis): Redirecting attacks, joint locks, pressure point strikes, and traps.
Muay Thai: Thailand. Kickboxing with powerful knee and elbow attacks. Also here’s some bonus Ong Bak
Sikaran: Philippines. Almost exclusively a kicking martial art, with arms and hands used only for blocking.
Taekkyeon: Korean. leg sweeps, high kicks, spiraling arm movements to confuse enemies, soft movements with powerful force.
Example: Drunken Fist
image source: Jackie Chan in Drunken Master
To give you an example of what sorts of notes you might take, I will do my own with a style that Wizards has already made a subclass for: the Drunken Fist. A lot of people will either be confused or upset I didn't go into detail about the drunken style this week so I might as well sate your hunger for it here. And here is a link to Wizards' stats for the drunk monk for those that were unaware of it. Note that I know close to nothing about martial arts. I am just a guy with access to Google.
Drunken Fist Techniques:
Daoist Style of the 8 Immortals (as seen in the Drunken Master Jackie Chan film). Names can be used for names of moves, words of wisdom, or roleplaying.
Lu Dongbin: leader of the immortals, magic sword on his back. Style involves swaying back and forth to trick the enemy. Fast punches that return to a pose as if holding or drinking from a cup. Move where he kicks behind him.
Li Tieguai: cripple with one leg and a cane. Style is mostly standing on one leg and tumbling. The standing leg is kept rigid and ahead of you while moving. Leg sweeps, drop kicks, and a weird jump-and-tumble while grabbing the rigid leg.
Han Khongli: carries a cauldron of wine. Style mimics this by always returning to a stance with arms outstretched before you as if holding the "cauldron." Though Jackie mostly just does a bunch of punching, Wikipedia says it involves powerful tackles, so use this when describing a grapple attack.
Lan Caihe: immortal with a bamboo basket. Has a “sudden waist attack.” Seems to be holding this imaginary basket higher than the cauldron god and with one hand in front of the other.
Zhang Guolao: the elderly donkey rider. Most of this style involves kicking but has some notable moves. An airborne spinning double kick that ends by falling to the ground face-up, then kipping up into a front flip. Another is with the body rigid on the ground, held up by one arm and hopping while the other arm punches. Another that seems usable for any style is bending over backwards and punching the enemy at chest-height.
Cao Guojiu: the young and clever immortal. Most notable moves were flips, including one flip with his hands behind his back. The Wikipedia says this style includes locks and breaking joints, as well as attacking vulnerable parts of the body. This seems like a drunken Praying Mantis style (based on description alone).
Han Ziangzi: the flute-player. Hands return to a position mimicking holding a flute. This form is often used in the film when blocking or deflecting attacks, mostly with the wrists. One notable move was a raging forward attack with flailing arms.
He Ziangu: Miss He, who "flirts with the enemy to cover her short-range attacks" according to Wikipedia. This is likely the key part of drunken fist, which is luring opponents into a false sense of superiority. Use this when getting up close and personal and for comedic moments. Twist the waist whenever you dodge an attack.
Jumping to the side and backward onto one knee, twisting the waist towards the jump, likely to engage someone who was to your side or while stumbling about the battlefield to suddenly engage a foe.
Named moves found on YouTube:
Lotus Nymph Scattering Flowers: one hand up and other down while waggling fingers.
Han Khonli Waving a Fan: slapping back and forth with one hand.
Attracting the Phoenix with the Flute: In the flute position but spinning backward in a circle to presumably dodge.
Goliath Offering Wine: Cauldron position spinning around for a punch.
General Guan Stroking his Beard: the move itself wasn't notable, more like a position. I would pretend this move is a barrage of attacks or deflections mimicking stroking a beard. The name sounded cool so it's gotta be used.
Other observations:
Snakelike waist movements
Circular arcs with outstretched arms while flailing.
Stumbling has a certain rhythm to it as the center of balance moves back and forth.
Lots of interaction with the ground via drop-kicks or fake-outs or leg-sweeping.
Always miming taking a deep swig to seem off-balance. In-game this can be done by actually carrying a drink in-hand.
Anyway those are the sorts of things I would keep in mind after researching a fighting style. It’s more of a martial ART anyway, so describing your monk’s attacks is more about capturing the feel of it than knowing exactly how to execute every last move.
Tune in tomorrow for some new homebrew subclasses for the monk! (no Drunken Fist but trust me there are some rad ones!)

Face Off: All Stars
Season 11: Episode 14
April 25th, 2017
In the final episode of the all-star season of Face Off, finalists Emily, Cig, and George are eager to hear about their last challenge.
As the finalists walk onto the set, actor, stuntman, and director, Jeff Wolfe, greets them. He announces their challenge to create animalistic Kung Fu masters for an actual filmed fight scene.
Each finalist is to fabricate two human-animal hybrid characters with the help of some of the eliminated contestants. They must select two actors with predetermined storylines and must incorporate those stories into their designs.
First up, Cig selects the tiger and dragon characters. Next, George chooses the eagle and the snake, and lastly, Emily pick and the crane and the mantis.
In three days, the finalists must sculpt prosthetics, create molds of their sculpts, cast their molds in either silicon or foam latex, apply their prosthetics, paint them, and style their models into camera-ready creatures.
Unlike other reality competition shows, where competition calls for drama, Face Off contestants are more than willing to help each other out. Yes, most people enjoy watching drama unfold on TV, but I prefer watching the talent portion of theses kinds of shows.
By the end of the first day, Emily is at a slight advantage, with her cast done first and ready to be painted.
On the set of the production are award winning judges Glenn Hetrick, Ve Neill, Neville Page, and guest judge Jeff Wolfe.
The artists watch their makeups on camera as the actors perform their fighting scenes.
During deliberation, each artist’s creations are discussed and a decision is made.
The judges felt Emily was able to clearly communicate her ideas of an Asian culture inspired look. She had a wonderful silhouette with a strong contrast of organic influences and art.
The judges though George’s work had good movement, and could easily note that the fighting style he selected strongly influence his design. Neville was extremely impressed with the feather work on the eagle.
Cig’s work was impressive to the judges. Neville though both creations were really good and Glenn was impressed with how much he was able to get done in the short mount of time given. Ve thought Cig brilliantly executed his ideas.
After the deliberation and consideration, the judges select a winner.
And the winner of Face Off: All Stars is Cig!!
Winning a new Hyundai Veloster, a trip to one of Krylon’s international locations, and $100,000, Cig is the 11th winner of Face Off. He proved himself challenge after challenge and is a true all-star.
The next season of Face Off returns on June 13th at 9PM on Syfy.
