I'm extrapolating big time here but... objectively speaking I know it's usually not your own ability that is lacking, it's your perspective of your own work that's skewed. you know where all the twists, turns, and heart stoppers are. meaning no surprises, which makes it seem 'boring and uninspired'. and since you don't feel the emotions you were trying to portrait, it's easy to think 'must mean it's bad'.

then again knowing all that doesn't help lessen the feeling on inadequacy lmao human brains are so dumb smh

tbh that's probably it. and when i write it's just my writing that i see so it all seems just so repetitive and low effort to me lol but currently i'm trying to break out of that and add a little more detail to my writing. it's kinda hard, sometimes it takes me like ten minutes to phrase a sentence. i should read some actual books to get a better feel for it.. i mean some fic writers have that eloquent way of writing as well but not all.

yeah i don't think you can always successfully block your brain from thinking that way lol! but it's kinda a good thing if you aim to get better at it (cause i think it's pretty similar to what artists feel like with their art)

at this point, I don't even know what to think anymore xD I see every single fanfic writer having those doubts, and sometimes it just feels so absurd? obviously, I 100% understand why and where that's coming from. but it's still crazy to think that people with such great works still get plagued with the exact same doubts that the little guy has.

and yeah I'm including you in the 'people with great works' category, no discussion. you could literally write about toilet inserts and I'd still read it without hesitation.

yeah no i totally get where you're coming from too. there's writers i look up to who make their works seem so effortless but still so good. so when they have doubts about their writing i'm always just as surprised, i guess it's normal..

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

i keep saying i wrote the first half of the fic in summer and that's because i felt so at peace back then. i'd spend the afternoons on the balcony just enjoying the sun and the scenery just inspired me to write something mellow. also the haikyuu brainrot was really bad but there were hardly any long fics that were canon compliant so i decided to just do it myself :p

2: What scene did you first put down?

i write pretty chronologically, so the first scene i put down is the first scene in the first chapter. i think i had been reading some high school manga/manhwa that inspired the whole mc gets confessed to by lots of people trope

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

there were alternate versions of ch. 9 because i struggled a lot to continue after the previous chapter. was i gonna let kuroo and reader wake up and be all awkward for falling asleep together, was i gonna let akaashi find them because they were preparing breakfast? it was so hard because there would've been nothing of substance besides the reader's and kuroo's thoughts so i decided to just leave it out and come back to it later on!

as for voicemail, omgg it's gotta be the angstiest huht? ><

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?

i like sudden twists that just shatter your heart. it's why i didn't put any warnings at first because it was meant to come as a shock and the replies i got on it were so funny to me. i might do another one like it actually!

there's dozens of story ideas i have in mind but nothing i'm exactly holding off on writing.. it's more like i don't want to start another new thing when i already have a few wips and an on-going series waiting on me :/

incidentally, art school's where I got that insight :p it's so prevalent that we were advised from the get go to just not look at a piece for a while if we ever felt stuck/unhappy with how it was turning out. then return to it a couple weeks later once we forgot about it. was supposed to give you a fresh perspective.

it's going ok for me! got a bit of an extension on a course I'm taking, which was super nice (was previously speedrunning it, which... turns out, trying to fit 7 months worth of work into 1 month is kind of crazy hard? imagine that!).
