The Cigar Stop Reviews the Drew Estate Smoking Monk Porter
Name: The Smoking Monk Porter blend Origin: Nicaragua Wrapper: Filler/Binder: Shape/Size: Toro 6x54 Strength: Medium Box/Bundle: Box of 20 Flavored: Yes – Cocoa, Espresso, Honey Price: Per 5 pack $36.00 – $125.00 average Per Box What to say about Drew Estate Cigars . . . They are not made cheap, they don’t taste cheap and their price isn’t cheap! That last part is the lynch pin on this review.
I purchased a 5 pack of the Smoking Monk cigars the Porter selection, They were well constructed, packaged well and smoked as all Drew Estate thus far have for me very well. The Porter had a solid ash and a medium slow burn, but for me the flavor of the porter was off, keep in mind that I do understand it is recommended you smoke these with a Porter Beer, but still this cigar should have offered me something for the coast. The Porter blend is said to have notes of cocoa, espresso and honey and be a medium strength cigar, I did not get any of that, every once in a while I would get a tiny sample of honey and that was all. The cigar itself was a mild at best, no way near a medium as far as I am concerned. For the price of only 5 of these, there should have been more to them, but maybe it would have been different if I had a Porter to marry the flavors, however it just did not live up to expectations. If you have a different opinion on this blending from Drew Estate let’s hear it I would enjoy your thoughts on it. I would rate this a 9 on construction & quality; a 5 on taste and a 4 on “the was this worth the price scale” ~Cigar Ash~
