Today's dram comes in the form of @cardhuwhisky gold reserve single malt scotch whisky. 40% no age statement aged in toasted oak casks.

Cardhu is a Speyside distillery, founded by the whisky smuggler John Cumming, and his wife Helen Cumming in 1824. Nice back story I feel. The distillery contributes a major part of the blend used to make Johnnie Walker.

On the nose it's all honey sweet and buttery biscuit. I get the hints of caramel and apple like a fresh Tarte Tatin. Theres the merest hint of spices like cinnamon or ginger.... but this might be a sense memory of apple pie.

On the palette it's a quite subtle flavour to start with. Its bright and inviting. After further tasting it builds on the scent for apples, butter, caramel ect from the nose. It's a lovely flavour. Theres an oaky spice note at the very end.

The finish is light and warming. I'm left with a nice dry spice finish that's subtle enough that none whisky drinkers might quite enjoy it. The price it a bit of an issue. The standard price is around £42 for a 700ml bottle, I got this one for £26 from Asda but this seems to be available across the board in UK supermarkets at the moment.

Overall I would say this is a very nice whisky, easily accessible to the none whisky drinkers.
