hi ! i’m considering writing a fic centering ames and bethany post-canon (if i end up writing it, it probably won’t see the day for a long time because i want to do my own research to make it right) and i was wondering why exactly did ames spiral into alcoholism after her father’s death? by that i mean what was her state of mind ? additionally, what convinced her to go to rehab at the end of TEH ?

ames already had some drug and alcohol issues, as evinced by her behavior throughout tfk even before her dad was murdered. i think her father dying just kind of felt like being unmoored, to her. as much as she hated him, he was a constant in her life, if only just a constant that she could blame all her problems on. (not necessarily unfairly, mind you.) he was reliably there and reliably hateable and reliably a villain...until he was killed, and simultaneously became a victim.

also keep in mind that ames was questioned by lehrer following her father's death, and as we learn in electric heir, this took the form of 'only a little' torture. (ugh lehrer-speak.) so that was traumatizing, and i think given her hatred for lehrer already, being the focus of his attentions like that really made her feel a sense of helplessness. at least when her father was alive she was somewhat shielded from lehrer--hard to imagine lehrer torturing the daughter of his best friend when ames sr is there to get butthurt about it, but now that he's gone, it's open season.

hi ! first i wanted to thank you for your books, they’ve become two of my favorites 🥰 i just wanted to know if you had any random facts about ames, taye and bethany like you just did with dara and noam ? i love them all so much thank you again <3

i do!

- taye likes to play video games on a switch. like the switch, actually the switch, not a future version. it’s vintage. he especially likes mario kart.

- as an adult bethany becomes a physician and ultimately opens up a new clinic for treating witchings + fevermadness. she will also treat any refugee for free.

- one of ames’ tattoos she got on a dare from dara and it’s just a little cartoon dude dara doodled on her notebook once in class and it’s ugly af but it’s also her favorite
