soooo i’ve noticed a TON of new “smerchette” and smerchette-adjacent activity / new users pop up on my dash recently, so HI EVERYONE!! i’ve been in this community since late 2017, so i would like to give some (unsolicited but still solid) advice, since i’m a recovering smerchette who has not used that term since middle school and now i feel like a dinosaur ❤️‍🩹

my experience is probably different from a lot of these new folks since i bypassed the “wheatley is smol bean” stage entirely (i had a cheat code dm for info) which is where i’m assuming a lot of people are at right now. that’s awesome!! i loaf portal!!! this is where i’d 1000% recommend fledgling smerchettes go from here:

LISTEN TO THE XFM SHOW AND THE PODCASTS. its literally a goldmine for quotables, silly billies being silly billies, and general unseriousness. yes the humor is outdated and some of the jokes don’t land, but i’m like 98% sure none of us were even thought of when it aired originally

its ok to not like ricky gervais. i actually strongly dislike him as a person, but i still do make fun of him because of my dislike for him. however, do still check out the ricky gervais show animated series, the podcast, and his earlier work (the office, extras, etc.)

trust me you will enjoy karl pilkington’s work. if it isn’t obvious from my entire blog, hes easily my fav of the Weed Smoking Girlfriends because of his weird personality and relatability. watch an idiot abroad first. if you like it, watch the moaning of life, and if you don’t like it, watch more of steve’s stuff.

speaking of, hello ladies is a skip. the standup special is great, but the hbo series is… eh. its giving incel

DO NOT INTERACT WITH OLDER FANS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOURE DOING. i have tried this and learned the hard way. of course, i’m “older” (???) now and i’ve learned how to communicate with them, but i would avoid older RSK fans unless you yourself think you can handle them. at best they’ll hurl obscure references to XFM at you, and at worst they will straight up fucking bully you. i have deleted multiple posts of fanart and the like because of that. they will NEVER take you seriously regardless of what you post.

so basically, unless you absolutely know what you’re getting into, stay out of r/rickygervais

ok ok ok i made the community sound rlly bad for a sec but thats just the oldheads. the gen z RSK fans are genuinely some of the nicest people i’ve ever met!! we are SUPER inclusive and accepting, and we love seeing engagement from other community members! don’t be afraid to introduce yourself and make yourself known in the fandom! we already love you!!! 🦕
