RE: Zim the Smeetry Worker AU. Because this is such a ridiculous idea.

-Literally nothing has changed about Zim. He still talks in third person and takes even the slightest of tasks with absolute ham. What *has* changed is that he trains little tiny future invaders about the GREATNESS OF ZIM and the Tallest. He rambles a lot about himself and them so much that more than once a baby Irken has been very confused on who exactly they should follow.

-Zim absolutely calls the Tallest near every day to show off the Smeets and their latest achievements. (Even if it is entirely mundane or not obvious.) As they get older, the Irkens just bury their heads in their hands, embarrassed.

-Zim crashing into the Assigning. Even when one of his past Smeets is handed an awful planet, Zim manages to spin it in a positive way. He also brings along other Smeets as he could not leave them behind and NOT bask in the glory of the Tallest and ZIM.

-Zim still destroys things to the point where no other Smeetry Worker wants to be near him in fear of dying or catching on fire. This annoys the Tallest a lot, but the survival turnout makes it difficult to get rid of Zim entirely.

-Every so often the Tallest get a Zim expy for an invader from the smeets he raised. They sometimes kick said invader into the middle of nowhere to die. Annoyingly, sometimes they survive and call back shrieking in victory (and/or agony).

-Zim in convinced that when a smeet he raised doesn't call him, it's because they are either too busy or have more conquering to do.

-Zim still wants to be an invader. This makes him break out into outstanding stories that never happened (BUT COULD!) to everyone who listens for 5 minutes.

PLOT?!

-The Tallest finally have enough of Zim and send him off on a secret mission to...some...place, so that he can start work on making a new Smeetry! The empire is always growing and they need Smeets raised out there because...because... They can become Invaders sooner! Because it's closer to the boundaries of the known empire! Yes! So, take this SIR, no it's definitely a SIR, and your ship, and go. Don't worry about the Smeets, we'll have someone take them back. No, really, just go, that Smeetry isn't going to build itself! Once you gets set up we'll send all the supplies necessary to make one. Now go on, shoo, make us proud Zim!

Some Irkens are tasked with taking the Smeets back. Zim takes off, but unbeknownst to him some Smeets make it along with him. They're what's in the basement of his house on Earth and the reason his defenses are 10x nastier than in canon.

This also leads into Zim going to "skool" to learn what Earthling "Smeets" do to blend in and get a good idea on where to set the Smeetry up because Earth is REALLY cramped. GIR plays with the babies and is the reason why, eventually, Dib finds out about their existence when GIR decides to take one out for a walk.

Huh. Well if he's this petty, spends his time pestering you in a video game, and insists Hyrule is full of evil, and you two have some sort of pact going on, then I suppose persuading you to see ill in all who exist is the most he can do to influence the world outside of the mindscape. He must've been really used to more freedom before this.... Which is actually quite interesting. Say, Vaati, what did you like doing before the pact was a thing? Like before it was something you considered.

“Nothing could stand up to my wrath. I was invincible, unstoppable- until a little boy wielding the Four Sword defeated me. Right before I was sealed, I chose to end my own life instead of being trapped in that accursed sword for yet another millennia.”

“The time I’ve spent in Octavo’s mind has dulled my memory, so I cannot tell you what I ‘liked’ doing before this. But if I had a life before being released from the Four Sword... it doesn’t exist anymore.”

I just want to say that thanks to your Pesterquest review, I avoided spending $7 and change and took the game off my wishlist. I've made it a habit to check out negative reviews on games I'm not too sure on, since they can tell you right off the bat what might turn you off from the whole thing. Thank you for your sacrifice in going through PQ and may you have a Merry Christmas and a happier New Year.

i’m always happy to have suffered through it if it keeps someone else putting up with and paying for that edge lord era fanfiction version of homestuck. it’s so bad and i can dedicate a year to going over why it’s one of the biggest disservices to homestuck lore and it’s fans given any chance.

I just...love that SA2 Shadow comic?? I mean it changes Heroes and on so MUCH in a positive way and I love the thought of there being CONTINUITY there with Shadow realizing there are people who care for him. He's not alone, and he never will be.

yes!!! it was mainly inspired by rouge’s words towards shadow in sonic 06 how “even if the world was against him, she’d always be by his side”

Just wanted to let you know that your Dracula!Vaati is by far one of my favorite pieces. You have a lot of great ones, don't get me wrong, but the different clothing and the menacing pose gives this vibe that he's in control. Very different to how he loses just that in Minish Cap.

Have you heard of Games Repainted? And are you aware that the Deltarune repaint has Niko replacing Ralsei? (I don't know how the game goes past the training dummy so don't know how bizarre it may become.)

Hey, at least you’re still making progress on it! Lots of projects get stuck in development heck and never emerge, fanworks included. We’re still getting updates about ONE from you. I call that good.

It’s also really hard when I am making it by myself which tends to kill my motivation faster thinking about how much I have to do. And not only that, but half of my day is spent working my fingers to the bone at my job and I feel like hell afterwards :(

Hey there! Can we hear more about your Almost Calamity Vaati AU? I'm intrigued by the design and need to hear more.

hey back! first of all, smashy!! you’re way too sweet, thank you so much!

but, absolutely! so actually, this AU existed a little while before BOTW released, and before we knew a whole lot about the mechanics behind calamity ganon and “malice”. initially i just wanted to write a vaati-centric fic that was heavily inspired by games like bloodborne and SOMA, so you can imagine how happy i was when a mechanic similar to the old blood/WAU was introduced to zelda canon, haha.

i’ll bullet everything so that it doesn’t get stupid long;

AU assumes that vaati is the first incarnation of demise and that his nature corrupts the light force that he managed to snatch away from zelda back in TMC. i also headcanon that the light force functions a little bit differently from the triforce, in that it’s meant to be a kind of “life support” system—designed to protect hylia’s descendants, because the minish are faithful little dudes. so basically, you’ve got a source of magic that’s constantly generating radiant energy that becomes instantaneously corrupted because of the nature of its host, but that’s also hardwired to keep whoever it’s inside in one piece. this is how i figure vaati’s stayed as “together” as he has despite thousands of years of solitary imprisonment and torture that’d ordinarily kill someone in a matter of weeks. the light force keeps him alive and tries really hard to not let him completely fall apart; but who he is has him brimming with malice and a stone’s throw away from where we see ganon at the end of BOTW.

the AU also assumes that vaati followed a different path than he does in canon. i’ve almost always written to my own AU version of a downfall timeline vaati, where instead of FSA happening, vaati is unsealed post-FS by ganondorf to participate in the unification war immediately before OOT. he’s sealed right after the war ends, and unsealed thoooousands of years later than he would’ve been in canon, probably just before or after BOTW takes place (if we assume that BOTW is at the end of the downfall timeline, ha)

the release of BOTW and some of the theories behind calamity ganon were the kind of Straw That Broke The Camel’s Back in that, when i was first futzing around with this AU, it was originally for a fic where vaati was treated as some kind of SCP creature; originally dug up in the sword by some kind of mining company and then transferred to and imprisoned in a lab where all kinds of freaky things happened. once BOTW came out, i ditched the modern fantasy concept and settled on the yiga finding the sword instead, and doing p much what they (supposedly?) did to ganondorf; or at least starting to before vaati was able to make a break for it.

this AU also gives vaati his own “blights,” because the idea of vaati having freaky powerful body horror clones is kind of funnyronic considering his relationship with clones on the heroes’ end.

tldr: vaati is an incarnation of demise. instead of FSA happening, vaati fights with ganondorf during the hyrulean civil war, is sealed after the war ends and unsealed thousands of years later by the yiga in the downfall timeline, either immediately pre- or post-BOTW. the yiga experiment with vaati’s essense in the four sword, making funky blight-clones out of his soul in their attempt to extract and harness the raw, ancient magic that vaati is chock full of. vaati escapes the sword during one of their extractions and, due to yiga fiddling and also sitting in his own corruption inside of the sword for so many thousands of years, is a gross, mildewy, sick dude who’s frothing with malice and just a couple steps away from losing the last of his humanity and going Big Feral. the light force is keeping him together like bubblegum holding the joints of a toothpick mannequin.

More Smeetry Worker AU nonsense: Dib sneaks into Zim's house one day and discovers the Smeets in the basement. He is at once intrigued and weirded out by Zim's setup ("Is that even safe...?"), but decides, "You know what? If I take this baby...I could raise it to DEFEAT ZIM! WEIRD aLiEn VERSUS WEIRD aLiEn!" He doesn't even make it out the front door. The Smeets overwhelm him and the house's defenses don't make things any easier. Defeated, Dib leaves and Zim arrives in time to find one wandering around. He berates GIR for letting it out and puts the little hellion to bed. Hellion grains wickedly over his shoulder before yawning and falling asleep.

-Zim doesn't show up to class for an entire week. Believing Zim to be concocting some...DEVIOUS scheme, Dib heads to his house after school. He spies in through the window from across the street, through binoculars, watching as Zim periodically walks into view. It's not enough!

Cue Dib attempting to break and enter the house, always failing miserably. Little does he know one of the Smeets became ill, and Zim has been in a  frenzy trying to figure out how to cure it. He does so eventually, and then tosses an alien snot rag at Dib's stupid head when the human confronts him later.

-Hellion goes off by himself one day. Leaves the house even. Zim rampages through the city looking for him, and forces Dib to help him OR ELSE! The skool would know his dirty little secret from last Thursday. ("What?! How did you find out? Were you SPYING on me?!")

Hellion just wanted to follow a moose balloon. And bite people.
