Random, but I just wanted to say, I love your blog. It makes me feel so vindicated in my love for Lex and his relation to Clark and Kon. He’s such an interesting and complex character, and I feel like it’s hard sometimes finding people who like both comics and Smallville Lex, but still acknowledge them as different characters even if you’re a fan of the idea of Clark and Lex knowing and being friends with each other back then!!
Anywhores. Thanks Wkehsbwhwhsvs
wah, thank you so much anon! 🥺 lex is very fascinating to me as i’m sure you’ve gathered and i’ve basically just dedicated the last half a year or so to binging as much of his content across different mediums as possible, so i’m glad there are people out there who enjoy hearing my thoughts and feelings and opinions about him.
honestly even comics lex is functionally multiple different characters all taped together masquerading as one guy bc everyone who writes him has VASTLY different opinions on him and influences on their writing. mark waid is basically just writing pre-crisis lex (when DC actually lets him near the character, which is not very often), PKJ is writing byrne era lex but without all the predatory interactions with women, geoff johns wants to blend pre- and post-crisis (with mixed results), and joshua williamson is doing god’s work in actually trying to give lex an emotional arc through his last decade of messy as hell continuity.
#briar answers#smallville lex is fun bc at first he seems like he has very little in common with comics lex#but knowing that jeph loeb was a fan of elliot s! maggin and cites him as one of his inspirations#and having read some of maggin’s work (esp his prose)#you can see a LOT of maggin’s influence in smallville’s lex#it’s a lot more subtle than byrne’s influence obviously#but i would say that most of what people LIKE from smallville lex came from maggin#at least when it wasn’t just coming from rosenbaum’s acting
