one of my more inane pet-peeves when reading is when people use “stim” as an independent verb (ie, “she stimmed quietly”); its so annoying to me because it is essentially a completely meaningless sentence. the word “stim” is just shorthand for “self-stimulatory behavior”, it cannot function as a verb on its own — it’s used to describe something else that you are not describing when you use it by itself.

#N posts stuff #using the word ‘stim’ doesn’t tell me Anything #HOW are they stimming? are they rocking? swaying? tapping their fingers? kicking their feet?#smacking themself in the head? biting themself? blinking in a pattern? flicking their fingers?#describing Any of those actions can tell you a lot about a character and what they’re feeling #using the word ‘stim’ does None of that #stopppp using it like that LOL it’s almost more of a noun #it Describes a Kind of behavior but it doesn’t function like the verb ‘running’ does because it describes an entire Swimming Pool of actions #and behaviors and not a clear cut Single Action; waugh
