Today’s #MondayMaker is @slum.innovation.project aka Dharavi Diary. @isaacsclay and the good folks at @chaipani took us to Dharavi, one of the largest slums in Mumbai, to meet the children in this after school program. We chatted about our favorite foods, colors, and what we wanted to do when we grew up (their English is impeccable, many thanks to this program). Dharavi Diary helps these kids to study and learn everything from science to math to English, while also empowering them to understand that their future is not determined by their current situation. While many attend schools with unmotivated teachers, program alumni and other students give back in this program by giving them focused guidance and assistance. Many of the children live in homes too small to do more than one thing in—meaning there is literally no room to read and study while someone is cooking or cleaning, etc. Dharavi Diary also gives them this space. These are just two small examples of the impacts this program makes on the 400+ participants. Everything is free of charge thanks to grants and donations. I can go on and on about the incredible people fueling this initiative, but you should follow @slum.innovation.project and check out their website for more info. The level and power of caring will blow your mind! Consider donating or getting involved if you can! - - - #makermonday #makersgonnamake #mumbaiindia #dharavi #dharavidiary #sluminnovationproject #inspiring https://www.instagram.com/p/B8rVI4GBW-_/?igshid=1lngis4c7e32x
