[Something, a rebellious employee (servant?) that doesn't get paid enough, approaches recovering Commodus's chambers, before it can get too close a small figure runs to stand between the emperor and intruder, wielding a sword that seems way too heavy for them]
Don't touch him-
@pain-is-forever
HUH-
okay now little soldier at ease it's alright
[gets up wobbly]
I'm sure there's no need to do that it's just a servant i can handle it
[he tries to gently take the sword from theo]
#yeah he uses a lot of old timey language towards things like houses employees ect cuz he's just used to it#he'd call the bronx a slum probably#dunno how book accurate that is but it's a headcanon i like

Absolutely free, so everyone can see.
Shia LaBeouf as Clodio Pulcher in MEGALOPOLIS (2024) dir. Francis Ford Coppola
#megalopolis#shia labeouf#mine#francis ford coppola#the og claude hamilton had more fun things going on#like the Haiti slum & witch mama#and the killing of Nush#but I respect Francis' choice#I understand that he already used The Wild One homage in Twixt#and the way Clodio now is more 'Roman'#it's still a pity that Francis threw away the whole Haitian storyline#I mean I think the vidictia book and a snake (and curse ritual being performed) would be a perfect match#anyway shia did a good job#you can feel that he's free#there are times he's clueless#but they end up being very instinctive#the 'pick up my hat' scene is a perfect example#he's on FIRE

Who would you cast as Kaz? How about all the Crows?
You're going to be disappointed in this answer, but my preference would be to go with a cast of unknown/newer actors, which inherently means that I can't give you a cast list :/ idk I just feel like that would be the best choice for the story practically and thematically.
That being said, I honestly feel like the best way to adapt soc would be in animation. I know that would literally never happen, but in general when it comes to stories with very vibey worlds and magic systems I feel like animation is almost always the best way to go. It's really easy for the sets and costumes to look cheap or super generic in live action, and that's even more true for any effects for the magic system. Soc has such a unique flavor and atmosphere that even if an adaptation had, like, game of thones money and an insane powerhouse creative team, it's just really hard for me to see it getting done right in live action.
#this is probably not the answer you were hoping for sorry :/#i'll actually die on the soc should be animated hill#six of crows#soc#asks#one of the things that really bothered me in The Show (in addition to many many many other things) is how flavorless and generic ketterdam#was and the crows costuming was. Ketterdam has so much life and so many good worldbuilding elements that get completely#flattened into 'generic fantasy slum no. 4'. The costuming really pissed me off because soc is especially good at really thoughtful#and well developed costuming which is something you don't see all that often with books and like with ketterdam they basically threw all#of that out the window and went with the most obvious surface level choices and it's like. i see the embroidery on those keftas#i know your costuming team had a real budget and talent so what tf happened here. i know yall are capable how the fuck did you fumble the#crows so badly you literally had a perfect roadmap. its genuinely so frustrating

So the new Hunger Games book. I have some thoughts.
Can't wait to see who's gonna play which characters.
Wonder what Snow will look like middle-aged.
I'm guessing the movie will cut Maysilee having a sister due to Madge being absent from the original films & if so, I wonder how that will affect the Mockingjay pin origins or if they'll completely remove the fact that it originally belonged to her.
Omg, the film could use the same reaping dress (or more likely a replica) for teen Miss Everdeen that they used for Katniss as it is said to be something that belonged to her mother during her time as a Merchant, in the original series.
Can't believe we might finally learn Katniss's parents' names lol.
Omg, do you think they'll at least hint at the baker/apocathery/hunter love triangle?
Oh (no hate to Woody Harrison but) young Haymitch is gonna be white, isn't he? Well, at least they could let him have black hair. & that wouldn't nessaryly even break movie cannon. All they'd need is to have a scene showing/implying that the stylists are gonna dye his hair after he ends up winning the games. The movie could even create an in-universe reason (outside of the Capitol citerzens just thinking it looked better). Such as with blonde people in 12, not coming from the Seam. Snow views it as the perfect subtle punishment to help Haymitch feel a loss of cultural identity by separating him from his community (now that he looks & lives more like a Merchant).
Hope the movie won't try to appeal to Hayffee/Effie stans by adding unnecessary scenes of them getting close, as if Haymitch didn't have a whole ass girlfriend while Effie would be nose deep in Capitol propaganda at that point in time.
Everyone who's saying it's gonna be weird to find Haymitch hot is weak. I was attracted to Woody Harrelson in a wig.
Don't know if this is at all realistic/accruate, but this is how I'd want the movie to end. Haymitch, back in 12. Maybe waking up in his new house after being sedated (due to him losing it after his last interview). Him desperately trying to find out where his family/GF is after discovering his old house empty (left there as a reminder), his GF's family not opening the door & everyone seemingly too nervous to speak to him. Till he eventually ends up on the Everdeen's doorstep (where Miss Everdeen is being comforted) & they explain what happened as best as they can. Then, after he returns to his new home, he gets a phone call from Snow bassically telling him that he should have behaved himself, leading him to rip the phone out of the wall before completely trashing the place. When he eventually wakes up, Hazelle is cleaning up the mess (he forgot to lock the front door). She tries to talk to him about applying alcohol (she was given by miss Everdeen) to the wounds he sustained from smashing up the place & about his girlfriend (as I could imagine the two having been friends as I can only see Haymitch's GF being from the Seam), but he tells her to get out before he starts drinking the alcohol right from the bottle, with a voice over of older Haymitch saying the line 'there's survivors, there's no winners'. Or something along those lines.
Maybe that's too fanficy, though lol.
#the hunger games#thg#mrs everdeen#mr everdeen#hazelle hawthorne#haymitch abernathy#president snow#mr mellark#maysilee donner#suzzane collins#not trying to be hateful towards effie stans or hayfee shippers#just don't get the obsession with them romantically#especially in the context of the books#like i do think they care about each other more than they'd ever admit#but in a co worker kind of way#Elizabeth banks killed it as effie#but i do find it a bit annoying when movie only fans go round acting like effie is a progressive ally in the fight for justice#like no she wasn't intentually cruel but she was just as problimatic as most of the other Capitol citerzens#with bassically no sensertiverty over any of the stuff that was happening#& sure she clearly grew to care for Katniss & Peeta (in her own way)#but was also shown to have some pretty disgusting views about certain views#like what she said about the tributes before Katniss & peeta or how she described some of the avoxes#that woman is not willingly joining a war & slumming it with the rebel side#& i think it's a disservice to Suzzane's writing to ignore the more “messy” parts of the character#movie effie is iconic but book effie is (sadly) much more realistic#meant to type has some pretty disgusting views about certain people but i don't wanna have to redo half the tags so#new hunger games book#new hunger games movie#sunrise on the reaping

Responsibility for public health was now understood to be a task for government, not just for working-class women who – until then – had been the only ones concerned with the cleanliness of slum houses, the only ones asking for clean water and working drains.
One such working-class woman was Kitty Wilkinson, an Irish migrant in Liverpool who had been a cotton mill worker and a domestic servant. She opened up her laundry business to her poor neighbours for a penny a week, allowing them to use her boiler and bleach to disinfect their clothes during the 1832 cholera epidemic. She became known as the 'saint of the slums' and campaigned for public bathhouses for the poor.

dear mu qing haters,
WHAT.
i think u need glasses....
because u didn't really read the book did u?
there's this thing called subtext,
and i need to you to understand that what a character looks like on the surface,
is not who they are beneath!
...
original post was discussing the difference between donghua fengqing expressions when xie lian was revealed to be fangxin guoshi who committed a massacre. feng xin looked scared, mu qing had what looked like a smile on his face. people in reblogs were hating on mq even tho we all know what this man went thru and how FLAWED his reaction is what makes him the best character in tgcf :)
stan mu qing <3
#mu qing#chewy chews#people when characters aren't perfect and don't always act according to How You Should React To Certain Situations guide: :0 ?!#mu qing lived thru a massacre. people in xianle were killed and shit#u think he would b happy?#people from his slum died and shit so did his mom#ofc not!#his character has been accused of doing shitty things and being vile when hes just being HUMAN.#seeing oh so perfect people be accused and exposed made him happy#because lets be fr. if someone who treated u like shit got exposed#wouldnt u b happy 2?#and yes#xie lian was an ass to mq in book 2 and 4#the spoiled mindset was there.

Wanted to share my favorite passages from a book I read recently!!
Something about the way these were written gets me. Maybe it's the fact that I just felt connected to the book in general, but "Lonely children probably wrote the Bible" is such a LINE.
Book is "Lullabies for Little Criminals" by Heather O'Neil

kind of always disliked that the mouthpiece audience stand-in used to indicate the pure breadth of the world-shattering betrayal the halonic faith has inflicted on ishgard, the pain and grief of having your entire paradigm of how you see with and interact with the world and how you view the war that you've been forced to fight in, lost friends and family to and suffered abuses at the hands of the church that were 'justified' in the name of halone and the grind of the DSW, that everything you fought for and suffered through was not only a lie but a war crime bc in actuality you were fighting and killing children and the extreme sense of world-rending disgust with yourself and pure raw rage at the vault which has willingly, without your consent or knowledge, made you into a murderer of the worst kind, all riding on the back of a literally world-altering disaster that forced you out of your home and made you run for your very life and the pure cultural grief considering that the holy see lost literally all of fucking coerthas in the calamity only five years ago is not the guy in this conversation who is actually ishgardian and has lived through all of the above but rather a sharlayan national with no connection to this conflict who's been living in ishgard for like two weeks
#saint.txt#ishgardposting#spoilers#major spoilers#ysayleposting#estinienposting#yeah I'm talking abt his HW writing again what abt it.#anyways I really do like alphi.naud I swear but like. he is not ishgardian. the complicated facets of culture cannot be condensed#into a book and just learned. he could not possibly begin to personally understand the level of harm the halonic faith has inflicted#on ish.gard and her people. he has not suffered the indignities and raw tragedies of the DSW. He has not been forced to fight in it.#he was not forced into slums to starve and freeze to death after running for his life to the only place remotely protected from the Horde#he was not raised with the idea and cultural values that throwing your life away in the war is something to be aspired to#being arrested under false pretenses and nearly executed for a crime you did not commit IS terrible and IS a crime ish.gard committed#but I'm sorry it doesn't compare to actually growing up and suffering under the ishgardian regime and the horrors of its society#he is ultimately an outsider to a conflict he is not involved in and has no relation to which sucks bc Esti.nien Is Literally Right There#So Is Ysa.yle If We Were Brave Enough To Engage With The Fact That There Are Real And Actual Abusive#Social Standards and Accepted Facets of Ishgardian Culture That Drove Her To Do What She Did#Instead Of Punishing Her For.
