Diversity of language is hilarious
Steve Mould made a video about muscles, and a slingshot ended up being relevant. He said "Here in the UK, they're called a catapult, but other things are called catapults, so that's a bit confusing" meanwhile showing a clip of a trebuchet

As insane and funny as it was... wasn’t Katherine making a slingshot instead of a catapult?? It's been really bothering me
might just be a uk thing, but a catapult also can refer to a slingshot mechanism like that

TASK : GOING VIRAL IN THE AGE OF CONTENT : 04/02/20
An artwork that appeared on the side of a house in Bristol has been confirmed as the work of street artist Banksy. The piece features a stencil of a girl firing red flowers made with spray-painted ivy from a catapult.
Banksy published a picture of the work on his Instagram page at midnight on Valentine's Day.
Kelly Woodruff, whose father owns the property in Barton Hill, said they now wanted to protect the "special" work from the approaching Storm Dennis.
"As it's Valentine's Day, it's really special and to have it in 3D with the flowers is incredible," said 37-year-old Ms Woodruff.
"There's so many people coming and enjoying it, taking pictures, it's fantastic.”
"There's been a lot of debate if it is a Banksy or not. Most people I've spoken to think it 100% is, and they're naming it the Valentine's Banksy.
"It's incredible and beautiful.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What can occur when a piece of art goes viral:
A piece of street art in Bristol that was this week confirmed as being Banksy has been vandalised.
A picture shared on social media showed “BCC wankers” scrawled across the artwork, which shows a young girl firing a slingshot filled with flowers.
The elusive artist confirmed he was behind the piece by posting two images of it on his official Instagram account and website in the early hours of Valentine’s Day.
Residents in the Barton Hill area of the city spotted the piece, which was taken by many to be a nod to Valentine’s Day, on Thursday morning.
One local resident who spotted the vandalism said:
“It’s a real shame, but it was always going to happen, unfortunately.”
Tumblr media
I believe the use of social media, in this case Instagram, can be a very powerful tool to share artwork. However, when it becomes a viral phenomena, the response is out of the artists control. I trust that this example displays my thoughts directly.

What Are The Best Hunting Catapults In The UK for Survival?
The catapult is an age old hunting weapon that should be part of any hunters kit. They are one of the most reliable and simplest weapons available, compact in size and inexpensive to repair and buy, there is no good reason not to have one in your collection. They are also a lot of fun to use. The question remains, what are the best hunting catapults available to buy in the UK?
A hunting catapult can be anything from a very simply Y shaped piece of wood with some elastic all the way up to an aluminium alloy catapult with additional balancers and laser sighting aids. Modern hunting catapults are far more effective than the wooden toys I used as boy growing up, they can be lethal in the right hands and incredibly accurate at far greater distances than you might expect. These catapults are made from space age materials and have been scientifically engineered in order to be as effective as possible.
Before we dive into the slingshots available, let’s first explore the advantages and disadvantages of adding a hunting catapult to your kit. As with many survival aids such as survival knives, the hunting catapult is often a low tech piece of kit, which at its heart is just a piece of wood and some elastic. The fact that it’s low tech works in its favour, the chances of critical component failure are low and any parts that do fail are readily replaceable for very little money or skill.
When choosing a hunting catapult it’s worth considering the pros and cons associated with them: Pros
With practise they can be very accurate and deadly
Silent operation
Exceptionally easy to reload
Reloading takes seconds
Simple design and operation
Lightweight and small
Easily repaired
Cheap to buy
Nature can provide ammunition
Cons
To be effective requires practise
Store bought ammunition can be heavy and bulky
Spare parts are required
Overall the pros of owning a hunting catapult far outweigh the cons, which means they are must have weapons for any serious hunter, survivalist or prepper.
It’s worth investing in a decent supply of ammo when buying a hunting catapult, a pack of 200 8mm ball bearings will cost between £5 and £6, and replacement bands will cost up to £10 for a replacement set.
A good quality hunting catapult will start at around £20 and can go all the way up to £150. If you’re not sure what you want then I would suggest starting at the lower end of the scale and then investing in something more significant if you feel it’s something you’d utilise.
TRUMARK FS-1 Review – Buy it from Ebay
Often what makes a good hunting catapult is the elastic tubing used, with that in mind, that’s probably one of the first things you’ll want to upgrade with this catapult, replacing it with something with a stronger pull weight and greater elasticity. As an out of the box catapult, it’s good for a beginner or a child showing an interest, just don’t expect it to pack much punch, but that is reflected in the price. The wristguard and arms are made from resilient aluminium alloy. The catapult handle is made from moulded plastic and it’s capable of holding a reasonable amount of ball bearing ammo. I would have liked to have seen more thought gone into the ergonomics of the handle, while not uncomfortable, it could be better. The wristguard folds up, which means the whole thing is very compact and easily fits into a bag or large pocket. Anyone that has experience using a catapult will find the Trumark FS-1 a bit on the weak side of things, but for controlling pests and target shooting it’s the perfect starting catapult.
Pocket Predator Hatchcock Target Sniper Review – Buy it from Ebay
The pocket predator hatchcock target sniper is a side shooting catapult that is well loved in the hunting catapult world, and for good reason. Named after the legendary Marine Corps sniper Carlos Hathcock, this catapult takes ergonomics to the next level, keeping your wrist in a neutral position which avoids placing excessive pressure on your joints or fingers. A steel base is used as the foundation of the catapult which is surrounded by ballistic resin, this makes the catapult strong, supple and comfortable to hold. Additionally the fork is designed in such a way as to accommodate multiple types of tubing, including flat bands, squares or tapered.
Dankung Toucan ParaCord Wrap Hunting Catapult Review – Buy it from Ebay
The dankung is simply put a beautiful hunting catapult, both in form and function. Made of functional aluminium alloy, the grip is very comfortable to hold and additionally feels substantial and robust. At just over 200 grams it’s very easy to carry and takes up barely any room in a bag or pocket. As Dankung is seen as something of a luxury brand, the price is slightly larger than you might expect from a similarly sized and specced hunting catapult. The manufacturer claims the piece is manufactured to fractions of a millimetre which in turn means you can be more accurate with your shots. In practise this is largely true, once used to the characteristics of the hunting catapult it’s possible to hit the same target consistently. The Dankung catapult is equally good for target shooting as it is for hunting.
Survival Slingshot Archer Complete Review – Buy it from Ebay
As a widely available commercially made catapult, the survival slingshot archer complete has it all. It’s an all-rounder that’s perfect for hunting and perfect for target shooting, it does everything you’d want a hunting catapult to do and it does it better than most. Aerospace quality aluminium and steel has been used to create the body of this beast and it comes with a 25 lbs draw weight as standard. For anyone that enjoys hunting at night the catapult comes with a standard one inch led torch, additionally there’s room for a fishing reel and stabilisers. If you buy this, it’s doubtful you’d ever want for another catapult. The main drawback is that it’s difficult to source in the UK, you may have to import it from abroad.
Eagle Aluminium Steel Alloy Hunting Catapult Review – Buy it from BladesPro
The Eagle Aluminium Steel Alloy Hunting Catapult might not be ultimate hunting catapult, but it’s as close as us mortals are ever likely to get. The Eagle Aluminium Steel Alloy Hunting Catapult starts at 16lbs of draw weight with options of increasing this as required, the design means it’s great for both left and right handed users, requiring some minor adjustments to ensure a perfect fit. Without any practise or tuning you’ll be able to send steel ball bearings flying at an impressively terrifying 150 feet per second. The hand guard provides a stable platform making aiming and long sessions of use a doddle. Additionally, the catapult breaks down quickly and take up a relatively small amount of space in a backpack or pocket.

Super Sunday
It was Sunday. Sunday the 30th April. Super Sunday in fact. And not one of those awkwardly forced ‘inclusivity’ Super Sundays where Martin Tyler tries to amp up Burnley v Hull with screams of 'AND IT’S LIVE’. No. This was a proper one. The North London Derby. No matter how bad your season has been so far, there is always a flicker of hope left in a derby. The final hurrah.
The day began like any other. I woke to the sound of beeping taxis, arose from my child sized bed and tucked the 'fitted’ sheet back in, as it’s somehow ended up on the floor. I walked through my housemates bedroom to use the bathroom. I washed and changed with careful consideration, as I tried to shield my nudity from the clear bathroom window that overlooks the Johannesburg Central Business District.
As we got our things together, we made our way across the street, where we would wait to meet with our guide. At this point I’ll inform anyone intending to visit Johannesburg that zebra crossings are not really zebra crossings out here. I’ve come to the conclusion that they are merely decorative. Street art perhaps. “Let’s sit in the square” we agreed, as we sauntered towards the precinct with enough privately rehearsed authority to dispel any predatory loiterer’s instincts. We took our places on the steps, seducing the midday sun as if we had just finished chapter one of Fifty Shades of UV rays.
It was then my peripheral was alerted to the energetic entrance of some local children. What they would later perform was a bizarre combination of mental disturbance in a paradoxically impressive show. They began with an acrobatics display. From the high steps, a child no older than ten flipped backwards whilst simultaneously spinning sideways. I don’t know the technical term, but if you know football, visualise how Nani used to celebrate goals.
Whilst admiring the talented display, we couldn’t help but notice an older boy stood behind, slowly retracting a rock, which was held firmly in a pink plastic catapult. I was unsure what he was aiming at. As he released the weapon, it immediately became apparent. A pigeon on the ground began to flap, maybe for only a few seconds, before closing its eyes and silencing in a small cloud of feathers. Without hesitation, a small girl picked up the pigeon, as if it were a Beanie Baby and held it in her hands, passing it between friends. Whilst I was left shocked and confused, the boy aimed up, towards a lampost and somehow shot another one straight down. Within the space of 30 seconds he had killed two birds with his slingshot, without a flicker of self doubt or concern. As we decided to move to a different location, one child approached me and asked for 2Rand as a reward for the entertainment piece. The request was ignored, as I assumed they’d only use the coins as ammunition to catapult at other helpless animals.
If a little girl cradling dead pigeons sounds like an unfavourable starter to the day, Arsenal v Tottenham provided a detestable main course. We watched the game at News Café in Newtown. It was the first (and last) time I’ve watched Arsenal whilst a DJ played Whitney Houston at full volume. Despite this, it’s a great venue with an even better menu.
On that note, here are some of the restaurants/bars we’ve visited so far…
City Perk Café - Our breakfast stop. Full English, poached eggs, smoked salmon, avocado and halloumi toasted sandwiches. They got it all.
News Café - In the upmarket area of Newtown. Lots of natural light (I value this). Penchant for 90s R&B. Menu features about 20 different burgers, Mexican food and loads more.
Capello - Essentially spoons, but you get 50 waiters per table.
Nandos - Same as the UK, except 'mild' becomes 'Extra Hot.' Order with care.
Cramer Cafe - Ran out of food when we went in. A varied selection of chair heights.
