Closing Bell: On This Day - April 26th

The stars have aligned to fit this stupid bit into the glory that is the NFL commencing tonight. Because the Draft used to be held earlier in April there are only five drafts this century that had selections taking place on April 26th so only minimal effort is required to put together an incredibly pointless All April 26th Team comprised entirely of players selected on this blessed day. In a weird twist, 2009 is the only April 26th to feature rounds 4-7 so we’re dealing with the cream here my friends.

QB - Matt Ryan (#2, 2008) The competition here was surprisingly light, only other consideration was given to Andrew Luck who might already be done and Carson Palmer. I’d forgotten that the Dolphins took Pat White in a second round once upon a time, yikes (I’m still trying not to think about how the Packers used a second rounder on Brian Brohm as an insurance policy in case Aaron Rodgers turned out to be bad).

RB - Le’Veon Bell (#48, 2013) and Chris Johnson (#24, 2008) There was some real meat to choose from here, apologies to Jamaal Charles, Doug Martin and Matt Forte for missing the cut but none of y’all rushed for 2,000.

WR - Andre Johnson (#3, 2003), Anquan Bolding (#54, 2003) and Keenan Allen (#76, 2013) Broke my heart to leave Jordy Nelson off and Aaron Rodgers is still steamed that I didn’t consult him first before putting this together.

LT - Flint Ironstag (#51 2013), LG - Slate Slabrock (#17, 2008), C - Eat Punchbeef (#165, 2009), RG - Crud Bonemeal (#95, 2008), RT - Punch Rockgroin (#40, 2003) Not a goddamn one of you actually cares about the real offensive linemen who’d qualify here.

TE - Travis Kelce (#63, 2013) Tight end was too annoying to search for since Cntl + F “TE” returns too many results so I just grabbed the first one I saw. He’s pretty good though so I am still a competent blogger.

The idea of continuing this for an entire defense is causing my discomfort so I’m gonna quit. I think my safety was gonna be Troy Polomalu which would have been a nice start.
