Clockwork || Tara & Sky
Skylar slept soundly in a tangle of sheets, pillows, and comforter on the floor of her van, which she managed to park at a nearby 24-Hour Walmart. After the fun and exciting night at the party at the Boathouse, Skylar had decided against having a drink in favor of being able to make it back to her car. She didn’t want to leave it parked for too long out of fear of getting it towed. So at the end of the night after performing live at the establishment, she drove to the Walmart and parked on the far end of the parking lot before allowing herself to fall asleep in the back of the van. Skylar had since been enjoying her sleep until the unwelcoming, obnoxious sound of her phone’s alarm began to sound. She began to stir before rolling to the side, caressing the floor before feeling the sleek, plastic-like device between her fingers. She managed to pull the phone towards her to silence the alarm before slowly sitting up. She let out a small groan, viewing the time on the screen. Her shift at Sacred Grounds would begin soon, so she needed to ready herself for the day as soon as possible.
Stretching and yawning, Skylar moved to slide the makeshift, window covers that she had to cover the back windows before placing them on the floor and proceeding to move to the front to the driver’s seat. After removing her other covers from the side windows, along with the sun visor cover from the windshield, Skylar placed all of the covers on the floor of the passenger seat. Grabbing the keys from the cup holder under the radio, Skylar inserted the keys into the ignition to turn on the vehicle.
The van rolled down to the local gym, where Skylar would purchase a daily pass in order for her to shower and quite possibly work out later. After parking, she’d walk in, duffle bag packed with clothes and essentials in hand, present her pass, and then make her way to the showers. After showering and changing into her clothes, Skylar would then move onto brushing her teeth and brushing her hair at the sink. After one, final look in the mirror, she would pack her essentials back into her bag before leaving the gym and returning back to her van.
Once Skylar returned to the van, she would throw her bag into the back of the van and retrieve her apron for work. Taking her place back in the driver’s seat, Skylar fired up the vehicle once again to begin making her way to Sacred Grounds. The music from her mp3 player blasting in her ears as she hummed to herself while driving. It would not be long before she’d reach the local cafe and she would park the vehicle in her usual spot along the side of the establishment.
Skylar walked into the cafe towards the back, tying her apron and greeting her coworkers as she went. She clocked in right on time for her shift before making her way to her station behind the counter. Placing her hands behind her back, she waited for her first customer to arrive. With a warm smile, she spoke in an equally warming and welcoming tone to the customer, “Hi, welcome to Sacred Grounds.” She said.
Tara was a regular in the coffee shop. Her ice black coffee with two sugars was as well known as her name. She hardly had to wait in line. They typically had it ready for her when she stepped up to the counter. Today, though, they were a little on the slower side. Or perhaps she was just ungodly early? She wasn’t sure. Her sister had left the day before and she was still trying to balance life without her. The shop had to be opened and Tara had a lot to think about. Raja had been over that night and kept her company, kept the sadness at bay.
She wasn’t one to dwell on things, but with Xera’s departure, a small hole had been bored into her heart. An empty feeling left by the loss of her sister. It had always been such an odd relationship. From the moment of the fire to her removal and then her coming home, Tara and Xera’s relationship had been fractured. As a preteen and teen, she had resented her sister. Not for what had transpired when they were so young but for coming back and taking the attention away from her. It had taken years for Tara to understand what had happened. It wasn’t really until she’d caught sight of her sister without her glamor ring that she got it. That resentment had turned on her parents in a heart beat. Xera kept quiet, she held no grudge, even after what had happened but Tara was a different creature. Their tempers flared in different tones.
Xera’s leaving stopped their budding friendship in its tracks, but for all she had been through, Tara got it. If she had been through all of that, she would have left town herself. This place wasn’t worth all that trouble. “Hi,” she said, a sleepy, slightly forced smile spread across her lips when Sky asked for her order. The smile didn’t reach Tara’s eyes the way it typically did and she lacked her normal bounce, but she reasoned, coffee would change that. She was happy for her sister, even if she was going to miss her. “Large black iced coffee, please.”

Late for the party || Ever & Sky
After getting temporarily lost, Skylar made her way to the Boathouse, she had been told by many of her customers and coworkers at work that the party would take place around the area. Specifically behind the Boathouse. While parties were a great opportunity for her to meet new people, it was also a great opportunity for Skylar to come out and offer a chance for her to provide live music. She genuinely took joy in every opportunity she had to try and to be a provider of entertainment wherever she went, especially for outdoor events like this. It was an opportunity to bring some joy to the people of the town that she lived in, especially in light of recent events.
The upbeat sounds of a playlist that Skylar had compiled for herself on a mp3 player played softly through the headphones in her ears as she drove to the location of the party. The radio in her vehicle never really worked well, and with it only taking cassettes, she was out of luck when it came to playing music from the radio. The burgundy, 1998 GMC Safari van, of which she affectionately called Mia, roared down the streets, Skylar lightly tapping the stirring wheel to the sound of the music playing in her ears.
She began to apply the breaks once the Boathouse began to come into view. Parking backward in an empty parking space across from the Boathouse, Skylar cut Mia’s engine. Stopping and switching off her mp3 player, Skylar removed the headphones from her ears before opening the door to hop out of the van. After closing the driver’s seat behind her, she surveyed her surroundings. A lone building that sat on a beautiful lake as everyone in town had told her. A sign on the building had confirmed that she was where she needed to be. Boathouse Inn. “Okay.” Skylar nodded to herself before turning back to retrieve her electric guitar, along with a cable amp, from the back of the van.
After slinging the guitar onto her shoulder by the strap and making sure that her van was locked up, Skylar made her way around to the back of the Boathouse to find the party that everyone in town had been raving about. For a moment, she stood and watched all the different people who had already come out to socialize, drink and carry on. It looked like it would be a good turn out, and a perfect scene for a live show and just a great night of fun from what she could see. She was excited.
Parties were something Ever had always enjoyed crashing, especially the supernatural ones. Creatures like this could not help but bask in their supposed immortality. They threw money away thinking it would always be there. They could get more. They did it with people as well. What was one blood bag when there were billions more? There were the reasons Ever hunted these creatures. She would always hunt them.
Ever had stepped out of the party for a moment, her head spinning despite not having a single drop of alcohol. She couldn’t have possibly seen what she saw. There was just no way that Rae was in that building partying side by side with the rest of this town. Ever refused to believe it and yet... She took a deep breath, deciding to head back in and maybe talk to her... friend? But stopped when she caught the sight of an electric guitar. “Live music,” she said as she tripped over a rock in her way. “Whoops,” she said with a giggle. She was faking her inebriation but she had gotten so good at it that it was easy to forget it was fake. “Whatcha singing gorgeous?”
