I’m a slut for pirate media
(Scooby-Doo! Pirates Ahoy)
Velma Dinkley:
-she wore a very conservative bathing suit, then a revealing costume, honestly my level of inconsistency
-surprisingly muscular
-Oh my god she’s wearing platforms
Daphne Blake:
-As much as I like strong independent Daphne, there’s also a place for sweet and ditsy Daphne
-I love her pulling pranks and trying to make everyone happy, I love seeing her be friends with Velma and Fred, and I wish that Shaggy had been a bit more included
Fred Jones:
-His parents are very midwestern (they sound like they’re from Minnesota)
-His mom is overbearing and it would probably be really annoying to be him but it’s sweet
-aaawwwww his parents are great
-yo he’s ripped
-high-heeled boots
-loves Indiana Jones for sure
-has weird slang that only the gang understands (I love when they act like friends, it’s such a low bar, but this movie does it super well)
-He can drive anything
Shaggy Rogers:
-eats “24 square meals a day”
-Immune to hypnotism???
-I personally believe he should get shot out of cannons more
-He gets seasick (no clue what to put on here, to be honest)
Scooby Doo:
-Immune to hypnotism???
-imminent danger to family is more of a motivator than Scooby snacks, he even gets mad at Shaggy for asking for a Scooby snack
-Bro, seriously, what are you
-He can operate heavy machinery
General Notes:
-They’re such good friends in this
-I love when they all work together to reveal a mystery, rather than Velma solving things on their own.
-hc: he’s called skunkbeard because he smokes so much weed
-I want the figurehead tattooed on my body
-guys there really is a star called the betelgeuse, it’s bigger than the sun (by a lot), and it’s going to go supernova in the next 100,000 years. When it does, it’ll be brighter than an eclipse and we’ll be able to see it.

💖 and/or 😈 for your ask meme if they haven't been done yet?
Thank you so much for the ask! <3 I’m so, so indecisive so I just kind of rabbled but THANK YOU for giving me an excuse🙏😂
For 💖:
I LOVE Alejo & Sofia! WNSD is really cool as a series in that the Gang seems to skew a little older so it’s fun to see the Gang with a friend who has a wife/son/family.
I’m also huge into Rufus & Phylidia. I wrote some meta on them in the tags of this post and I have to give them a shout-out. :)
Crystal & Whirlen and Calvin Curdles & Alma Rumblebuns have very adorable side romances in Abracadabra Doo. I enjoy Crystal & Whirlen individually and I think their interactions are so cute! The bg behind Alma and Calvin is perfect and v romantic.
Lena & Simone is !!!! SO MANY THOUGHTS ABT THEM <3
Mayor Nettles & Sheriff Bronson Stone are very adorable together. I also loved his dynamic w/Fred Jones Sr.
THE OG MYSTERY INC from SDMI. It would have been really interesting to see more background on Ricky & Cassidy & Brad & Judy & Professor Pericles. There’s so many interesting dynamics between the core group, especially concerning how everything fell apart. The way they came together only to fall apart later on has so many details that never got fully explored but would have been legit fascinating to see!!! I was also always curious about how the five of them connected to Fred Jones Sr./what that dynamic was like. :)
For totally platonic relationships: I love Crystal & Amber from Alien Invaders, Penelope Bailey and her dad from WNSD’s Recipe for Disaster, and for some reason the dynamics of the band from Simple Plan and the Invisible Man is cute to me. The relationships between the fathers and daughters in Ghoul School also always really warmed my heart (esp The Mummy & Tanis 🥰).
THE HEX GIRLS!! they really deserve the chance to be developed further and I would die and kill for a piece of media that’d get to explore their relationships with each other further.
Surprisingly, I was also pretty touched by Muttley and Dick Dastardly’s bestie-ship in Scoob!
For 😈:
Velma & Omar in Where’s My Mummy. ICONIC. They have my heart!
Captain Cutler from SDWAY!! (and him in BCSD, my little guy). He’s my fav of the iconic WAY villains. His outfits, his vibe, love it!
Bill McLemore ❤️ he is literally so dumb and weird and I have a million random thoughts abt him and how much he loves baseball
^speaking of shout to my other baseball boy Bob Taylor from The Unnatural. we love a villain who commits crimes out of love 🥹
Also: Steve from Stage Fright (just a goofy guy)! Captain Skunkbeard from Pirates Ahoy (very!! good design)! Marcy from WNSD’s A Scooby Doo Halloween (she is my always and forever Corn Princess 👑)! Meadow from Homeward Hound! Phylidia from Riva Ras Regas (I love women)! Headless Horseman from TSDS! Green Giggling Ghosts/Phantom Shadows (I actually think they are THE most iconic Scooby Doo villains of all time)! The Ghost of Mother from BCSD! and Marcie Fleach if you count her ofc 😌
#I wrote so much I’m sorry but#THANK THANK YOU FOR THE ASK! !#so glad that people are reblogging it too and answering questions 😭 Scooby Doo fandom you have my heart 🫶#I feel like I also should say Vanna Pira & Drac real quick 😘#their dynamic is so funny 😂#scooby doo emoji ask meme

My Scooby-doo movie rating
So, since October is finally over, I decided to rate the Scooby movies I binged for the month. For both nostalgic reasons, & also just for fun FTR, I'm keeping my October PFP cuz I love it way too much & It's such a mood not to get rid of. Fight me-
Anyways, these movies were all watched on Dailymotion.com, & I'm going to rate them 1-5 based on if it's as good as I remember it being Let's see if you guys remember any of these
Spoiler warnings ahead!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Day 1, October 2nd Aloha, Scooby-doo!
This movie wasn't the most entertaining thing, but it also wasn't extremely boring, either. I started with this one based in Hawaii as it was the tamest one & I wanted to save the spookiest ones for last. I did like Little Jim, though, he was awesome. & the Wiki Tiki is an awesome villain, cuz I've always been a sucker for monsters like that
My rating: 3/5
---------
Day 2, October 5th Scooby-doo! & the Monster of Mexico
Honestly, this movie isn't as good as I remember it being. Or maybe I just found the wrong place to watch it, since ALOT of ads popped up throughout the movie, which kinda threw me off. This is probably my most forgetful movie, I'm sorry to all the Mexicans I'm flaming for this. I just don't remember much about this movie. Alejo was really cute, though, I liked him. & I also liked how they portrayed El Chupacabra, too. But, other than that, I don't really think Monster of Mexico is for me. But, I'm glad I watched it again for nostalgic reasons, so that's why I'm not that upset
My rating: 2/5 A high two, low three, BTW. Cuz it wasn't terrible, it's just kinda mid now that I'm 21
---------
Day 3, October 9th Scooby-doo in Where's my Mummy?
I. FUCKING. LOVED THIS MOVIE. I've said it before in my post about this, but this has to be one of the better movies I've watched, so much so that I regret not saving it for later. Amelia Von Butch is such an awesome antagonist (& she's hella fine, too), Triple A is the coolest dude I've seen, Rock Rivers is funny as hell, & Omar is super interesting to watch. The mummies, Cleopatra, the segway into the movie, the more CGI creatures like Spirit of the sands, this movie SLAPS. & I think "Mummies, Rags, & Riches" is the biggest banger of the entire soundtrack, even as an adult. That song will never not slap to me. Definitely one of those movies I'll be watching again soon just for fun. Said it before, but I'll say it again. Egyptians just do it better
My rating: 5/5
---------
Day 4, October 13th Scooby-doo & the legend of the vampire
You would think since I was so obsessed with 39 back in the day that I would've liked this movie as well as I did when I was a kid. I hate to say it, but not really. Naming a vampire Yowie Yahoo sounds kinda..........weird. I'm sorry, I can't hear it any differently. The pacing was really slow, somethings were a bit off, it really wasn't as good as I remember it being. Since I love Australia & the culture of it all, I'm disappointed that I don't like this as much as I did anymore. The few things I did like were the Hex girls, Daniel & his grandfather Malcom, Jasper Ridgeway, The Bad Omens, the vampires themselves (Including old Yowie despite the name), & the soundtrack. Auugh, the soundtrack was so awesome, especially in the opening scenes of the movie. Other than that, I'm upset that I didn't like this movie. Especially Two skinny dudes. IDK why, but I really don't like those two. For a movie that has the same birth-year as me, I really don't care for this one
My rating: 1/5
A HIGH one, low two. Cuz the potential is there, & I see what they were going for (Mostly cuz Wildwind was super awesome & the Hex girls have my heart as usual. So, that's why it isn't getting flamed THAT hard)
---------
Day 5, October 15th Scooby-doo! Pirates Ahoy!
Again, I'm mad I didn't save this for much later, cuz this movie ROCKS! The soundtrack, the pirates, Captain Skunkbeard, Mysterio, this was definitely a fun movie to watch. "Blow Ye winds" has been stuck in my head for days, too. We need to bring sea shanties back!! & I am also absolutely disgusted how the soundtrack isn't on Spotify. Not only that, but Rupert Garcia is a real cutie & such a likable character. Fred's parents, Skip & Peggy, are absolutely adorable, too. Yes, they're cringy at times & I understand why Fred reacted the ways he did, but damnit, they are so adorable! Captain Crothers & Sunny St. Cloud were really fun additions to the movie, too. My only question is why did they name that billionaire guy Biff Wellington?? That sounds like a fancy steak XDDD Either way, this movie was one of the better movies I remember, & now I'm obsessed with pirates because of it 🏴☠️
My rating: 4½/5
---------
Day 6, October 19th Scooby-doo! & the Cyber Chase
Hear me out on the Phantom Virus. HEAR ME OUT--
Uhhhh, who said that? Anyways, I really enjoyed this movie, it was so much more fun that I remember it being. Professor Kaufman is my favorite character from it, honestly. Eric did an incredible job on the game, & the real gang meeting the cyber gang gave me so much whiplash due to the old looks. Especially Shaggy wearing red, cuz that's ANCIENT times. I also think Officer Wembley is a bit of a grouch, but I don't mean that in a bad way. Just means they did a good job writing his character. But, my one complaint is Bill. What was going through my boy's head to make a virus just because he didn't get picked for that prize money?? Like, DUDE!! That is so petty, even for a Scooby-doo movie XDD
My rating: 4/5
---------
Day 7, October 21st Scooby-Doo! & the Loch Ness Monster
SCOTLAND PRIDE!!! >:DD
This is one of the movies that's the closest to my heart due to me being half Scottish myself. The way they animated the Loch ness monster was absolutely amazing, she looks alot better than some of the other CGI stuff from the early 2000s. & with the scenes where she's clomping around actually look really satisfying, too. & the characters are so fun to watch! Del is a super funny guy, Sir Ian is really cool, & Fiona Pembroke is probably a favorite of mine. & Shannon is absolutely adorable, too! Not only that, but Colin & Angus are fucking hilarious. Put a Scottish accent on any siblings & it automatically becomes alot funnier to see them on screen. However, that Duncan McGubbin dude sure is creepy. Was he always like that? I don't remember being that scary, it's gotta be the lazy eye. Not only that, but I LOVED the scene of the guys in the sub swimming away from Nessie after spotting that underground cave. Easily a favorite scene of mine. Definitely gonna put a Scotland visit on my bucket list because of this movie. Who knows? Maybe there is a Loch ness monster out there somewhere
My rating: 5/5
---------
Day 8, October 27th Scooby-Doo! & the witch's ghost
I wanted to watch this on my birthday, but due to my party, I was so busy running back & forth that I didn't have time. But, I saved this one for second to last for a reason. It's not as close to my heart as Zombie island, but damnit, it slaps. Ben Ravencroft is definitely an author I'd read, since I'm a sucker for horror books. Not only that, but this movie with the Hex girls' debut was one of my gay awakenings, so these three hold a special place in my heart (Luna, my beloved). I kinda wish we saw more of Jack & Dr. Dean, though. Shaggy & Scooby made Jack's meals look incredible 🤤😋 But, man. Ben is OP as hell with powers like that. & the animation of him summoning Sarah was fucking cool! Definitely a favorite misleading villain of mine. Summoning your own ancestor & she ends up dragging you into a book with her, couldn't be me
My rating: 5/5
---------
Day 9, October 31st. Halloween night Scooby-Doo on Zombie island
Said it before, but I'll say it again. BEST SCOOBY MOVIE EVER!! I saved this one for last since I knew it was gonna be as good as I remember it being, & damnit, was I right. I honestly kinda wish Moonscar island was a real island in Louisiana now, since I would love to go there. Mostly for the peppers cuz I'm not one to turn down some good old spicy food, sue me. Anyways, I really loved Lena, the ferry driver Jacques, Beau, & Simone Lenoir. I honestly don't remember this movie being as dark as it is when I was younger, but then again, it was a movie from the late 90s. They were able to get away with alot of things back then. Ironically enough, my all time favorite character would probably have to be Snakebite Scruggs. There's something about him that's just so scary, but so cool to me that I wish we saw him more in this movie. His hunting pig, yes, hunting pig, Mojo creeps me out, though, no idea why. But, out of all the things they could've worshipped & turned into, it just had to be a cat. Simone, Jacques, & Lena aren't beating those furry allegations for a while- Okay, that was dumb. Anyways, it was awesome of me to save this movie for last. "It's Terror time again" is still one of the best songs from any sort of Scooby movie I've seen, too. & the zombies still continue to scare me in the best ways possible, even when I know they're just people Simone & Lena drained to stay immortal. But, the way they were defeated by disintegrating into dust was still probably the darkest thing I've seen, even today in 2024. But, it means it was just as phenomenal as I remember it being.
My rating: 5/5, obviously
If it's your first time watching it, don't be alarmed when you don't hear Scoob's iconic "Scooby-dooby-doo!!" at the end. Watch through the end credits, & it'll be there after a cute little scene with Simone's kit-kits ^w^
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
& that's all of them! Now I'm kinda thinking if I should try to draw my favorite characters from these movies. Key word, TRY. IDK how well I'll be able to pull it off, but let me know if you wanna see that
PLEASE give these movies a watch if you haven't already, they are absolutely amazing. Don't let the ones I rated the lowest disappoint you, since that just means they might be more your guys' thing instead of mine. Such an amazing thing to do over the course of October
& I hope you all had a fun & safe Halloween!

plush reviews: pirates ahoy! (collected)
for my own personal reference, decided to collect the singular posts into one, w/ breaks between each original post below the cut
I will say this, the opening credits for this one are pretty dang good - nice visuals flow together with some wonderful music to create a compelling overview of the Bermuda Triangle and some of the wild theories commonly associated with it, as well as how far back these myths go. Kudos 🤗
also, I did not realize how short this movie is - paused it for a second and it’s only 70 minutes long apparently. huh
---
oh man, good times - I forgot how stilted and choppy the WNSD animation could get in some shots.
annnnnd there’s the cotton candy fog. it moves like it’s on a skateboard being pulled across the screen XD
---
finally cut to the gang - i honestly like this shot of everyone in the car. daphne paints her nails like my sister used to when we were young - on the dashboard on long car rides 😅 the nausea from the smell led to some “fun” trips, lemme tell ya
---
oh Casey Kasem, even in old age your Shaggy was memorably good
also the joke on Fred’s age never gets old XD like, you guys grew up together as kids in this continuity, how could you not know his age, much less that he’s obvs not in his 40s? still a fun one tho
---
another thing i forgot about WNSD continuity - Shaggy’s character model being like 2 feet taller than Fred in some shots
also the gang being legitimate friends and liking each other and getting along, unlike some portrayals *side-eyes sdmi*
---
i think this is my fave version of fred’s parents, although i do love Professor Huh from be cool scooby doo. they are EXACTLY how i picture the people who raised the sdway/wnsd version of Fred to be
---
holy crap, i forgot Kathy Najimy was in this
---
actually, here’s a thought: why haven’t they graduated Frank Welker to playing Fred’s dad in a show, and hired someone else to play Fred?
granted, the man still (uncannily I might add) sounds exactly like he did in the 60s (hOW?!?) but it’s strange they haven’t tried to do that yet apart from maybe pup named sd, where he played fred’s… uncle, i think and i guess kind of with the new scoob 2020 movie, where he only plays scooby
---
…i think the captain of the ship just got beamed aboard the Enterprise o_O
---
the alien has the general head shape of the ones from Alien Invaders and the claw hands of dr claw from inspector gadget
also, whoever designs fred’s facial expressions in this movie is having waaaay too much fun (although kudos for actually… you know… making them. some characters have very minimal face movement and it’s rather unsettling, especially when the voice acting is actually pretty decent)
---
i gotta say, good on fred’s parents for encouraging their son’s interests and talents, as well as getting him a birthday gift that he can not only enjoy, but also inviting his friends along for.
…unlike SOME incarnations *glares at sdmi*
---
holy fcuk shaggy just brought back the ghost of captain cutler, glow-in-the-dark diving suit and all O_O
---
dang, velma’s lounge wear looks cozy. i’m glad they haven’t tried to force her into something weird
camp scare put her in a white bathing suit, which was… really odd for her, color scheme wise. altho the storyboard artists reaaaaaally wanted to do a drawn out, slo-mo play-in-the-water thing with velma and daphne in that one, so maybe that contributed to it? idk
---
i do like that the gang inadvertently solves every mystery on a mystery cruise - that cracks me up
---
cripes, they keep cutting back and forth between a decently animated shot of the gang on a polished background, and this almost MS Paint looking rough animation of the castaway being guided on the deck, which is all flat colors and rough black lines. it looks terrible
the animation quality is all over the place here
---
and suddenly man in a jetpack
---
RON PERLMAN?!?!?
how the FRICK did they get him on this movie cast?! this is post-hellboy!
( also apparently arsenio hall voices the captain. who the heck had all these high rollers on speed-dial at the studio that day)
---
actually, here’s a thought: given the voice cast we have, and how i’m actually able to follow this without having to look at the screen all the time (i’m folding laundry rn), this could make for a really decent comedy mystery radio show.
think about it! get a decent voice cast and writing team, and there’s a lot you can do with Scooby on the radio. you may not be able to do the chase scenes as well, but those can be worked around pretty easily with a solid writing team. i’d be interested in seeing that come to reality in all honesty - it could be fun!
---
another thing i just noticed: Scooby hasn’t talked NEARLY as much in this one as he does in later shows/movies. I forgot how much I missed that from him
---
wait a tic that’s Dan Castellaneta as the hypnotist
seriously, who was able to get all these people on board for a Scooby Doo DTV about pirates
---
now here’s an interesting moment/snafu: Shaggy and Scooby canNOT be hypnotized, according to this movie, but the clown in SDWAY was able to hypnotize them both using the exact same method - a gold circular object on a chain swung back and forth.
then there was Legend of the Phantasaur much much later able to hypnotize Shaggy so successfully he overcame his panic disorder
was it because they weren’t allowed to eat prior? their meal was continuously interrupted before they were dragged onstage. maybe being actively hungry and denied food when it’s right in front of them blocks them from being hypnotized properly…?, idk but it’s food for thought, for sure 😁
---
ehehe, one of the background guests is wearing a Tin Man costume from the Wizard of Oz
alas, this is prolly as close to a crossover as I’ll ever get between my first two fandoms ever and maybe that’s for the best
(honestly kind of surprised there's never been a scooby themed oz-related adventure tbh public domain and recognizeable)
---
it took about half an hour into the movie for the title villains to actually encounter the gang, or almost exactly halfway through the movie. that’s actually pretty odd for a scooby movie, isn’t it? especially when they haven’t encountered any other mystery except the fake-y ones (a lot start off with an in-progress mystery to finish up before being introduced to the main)
---
welp, villain’s been spoiled, it’s ron perlman’s character as the pirate captain…
*sighs* Pirate Captain Skunkbeard
like… you get freaking Slade from the teen titans, Hellboy Himself, to voice your baddy… and you give him a name like Skunkbeard.
could have been something cool like Capt Barnaby Bones, or Cuthbert Butcher the Red Pirate, or SteelHook Slater, or Morgan “Moonscar” McWright (okay, that one’s been used before, but the point stands dammit!)
---
holy moly, one of the pirates just tried to cut scooby and shaggy’s head off with an actual blade
it cut clean through their costume heads with one swipe
jesus christ on a bike, what is WRONG with you?!?!
(sometimes these scooby dtvs have moments like this. moments that explain how it is shag and scoob have what is likely ptsd for days)
---
*gang follows trail of oozy green liquid sheen to the pirate ship*
now see, i thought those wooden ships weren’t supposed to pollute the oceans back in the day
(tho it does work as a solid clue i’ll grant em that)
---
shaggy, why aren’t you more excited to go into the cotton candy fog? it’s clearly grape and green apple flavored!
---
…i think one pirate just killed another one during that sea shanty there
brutal
---
so i didn’t mention earlier, but tim conway is fred’s dad, and i think he’s the only voice star in this i’m not surprised at - he’s been on the new scooby doo mysteries as their celebrity guest of the week, so him coming back is more like a belated reunion
that being said, his voice work here varies wildly between ‘what the heck take was that’ and ‘hysterical’ - it’s quite odd
---
and suddenly the cruise ship is sunk, and the gang is on an island
alrighty then
---
the captions are cracking me up right now - not a single one has spelled “bananas” right
it only spells it as “banas” 🤣🤣🤣
---
“Prepare to suffer the wrath of Capt Skunkbeard!”
…nope, that’s still not intimidating. try again sir.
(truly i am made to sail the seas, for i am salty af on this name)
---
‘Seize them!’
fade to black
come back in on gang tied to the pirate ship mast
…really? the gang has escaped far worse than a group of pirates before (and usually to some funky tunes), and you’re saying they were captured just like that?
fred, please tell me this is a plan of yours, otherwise this is just dumb
---
sooo the pirates want to find a place that matches a painting of stars from 200 years ago… without ever stopping to consider that the painting could just be a pretty picture?
it’s a small painting, and i don’t think that star maps were really used like that back in the 1800s when it was purportedly made (at least not from what they look like on wikipedia… none of them look like pretty wall paintings)
these pirates are kinda dumb, methinks
---
the ghosts of the bermuda triangle, including world war fighter places, old exploration ships, and a sea monster are apparently trying to stop the pirates
because the pirates want to time travel and rule the sea throughout time
and they needed the pretty pretty picture to lead them to the time travel macguffin they want to retrieve… which is also the sole reason the Bermuda Triangle is all bermuda triangly to begin with, when it fell to earth from space itself.
…say what now?
...that has to be one of the dumbest time travel plots i've ever heard and i sat through endgame twice
---
the macguffin is a solid gold meteor
a giant hunk of gold literally as larger as twenty of the pirates put together, and you want to use it to time travel instead of selling that shit and being made for life
why are none of you smart
---
yet again i see scooby shoot someone with an item that should have killed them outright and ended the mystery right there
moon monster madness had scooby shoot the alien with a missile on the moon, and pirates ahoy has him shoot a cannon at someone point blank with only a wooden door immediately between them
shrapnel should have shredded that pirate to bits, if even that much was left after that
---
okay, the time travel thing turns out to be a hoax the hypnotist uses to convince the billionaire to finance his search for the literal meteor of solid gold located in the heart of the Bermuda Triangle
that’s a relief at least - Scooby Doo has done some weird shit in its days, but time travel does not need to be one of them
---
well, at least we finally have the answer to who would win in a fight - homer simpson or scooby doo?
(obvs scooby, of course :D)
---
according to velma, everyone on the cruise was hypnotized into believing they were pirates (including fred’s mom), but doesn’t hypnotism only work if the person actually subconsciously agrees with/goes along with the suggestions?
does that mean that at least one person on the cruise ship wanted to behead someone, since they nearly succeeded with Shag and Scoob? does that mean the fred’s mom secretly wants to kill her husband, since she tried to have him thrown overboard the ship while she was hypnotized?
the questions this raises, they are unsettling thoughts indeed 😨
---
“Wouldn’t you like a nice ski trip to the Himalayas?”
“And risk a run in with the Abominable Snowman?! Forget it!”
exactly one year later (no joke, it came out exactly one year later):
“Join Scooby and Shaggy as they run in terror from the Abominable Snowman in the Himalayas, in Chill Out Scooby Doo!”
----
And that was Scooby Doo Pirates Ahoy!
That was a relatively fun, if dumb, done-in-one mystery. What really saves this one (especially given the REALLY inconsistent animation quality, from acceptable to ‘someone used MS Paint didn’t they?’ levels) was the voice cast. I don’t know what blackmail they had on these guys, but the voice acting was really dang good.
Probably too good - the bad guys’ voices are so memorable you know immediately who they are when you hear them.
The time travel spiel was unbelievably dumb, only saved by the fact it was a hypnotic ruse, and some of the stuff doesn’t quite mesh that well? Like the padding on the desert island, and some of the really weird plot contrivances like the painting being the exact map to a giant ass solid gold meteor :/
Still, a solid set-up (mystery cruise in the Bermuda Triangle) with some new elements (Fred’s parents, an absolute delight) make it a fun film for the wee ones. I’d call this a keeper at the end of the day.
Then again, I really have forgotten how nice it is to see the gang as actual supporting friends and have it feel sincere. Be Cool Scooby Doo was mostly for humor, but the kids still felt like they liked each other well enough.
WNSD on the other hand really made them feel like actual friends, based on body language around each other, general closeness, and a warm comradery that’s hard to replicate. For the flaws this show has, this is certainly not one of them.
That’s all for tonight folks. Sleep well, me hardies yo ho!

Scooby-Doo! Pirates Ahoy! (2006)
The gang go on a mystery cruise for Fred’s birthday but the ship is attacked by ghost pirates.
The mystery montage was quite good because there were some reappearances of various previous monsters used in other films or the TV series. There’s probably at least a dozen different points in which Captain Cutler’s ghost has had a cameo now. The costume montage was also mildly amusing but the final result was a bit disappointing.
The pirates themselves could have used a bit more work as there was an explanation for why they glowed included as one of the clues but they didn’t really look like they were glowing. Also the main one was calling himself “Captain Skunkbeard” which made it really hard to take him seriously as a threat even for a cartoon villain.
I rather enjoyed the mythological parts about the Bermuda Triangle and the range of theories that was included. There’s a good scene during the opening titles when boats and planes are disappearing one after another because of sea monsters, aliens, whirlpools, etc. The mystery was interesting for most of the film but falls apart at the end because of an explanation with more holes than plot.
The music was alright for this one and there are a couple of half decent songs to go along with the chase sequences but it didn’t feel like it went with the content of the film. It was a bit like someone had picked out some wind instruments commonly associated with cartoon pirates and decided that as long as those were included they could make any genre of music at all and it would be pirate music.
3/10 -This one’s bad but there’s some good in it, just there-
