This is the first post on my first ever blog! I don't know what I'm doing yet, but I will be posting pictures and videos of my school bus conversion into my house!
I purchased my bus in March of 2017 for $4,200, and drove it for the first time from Granby Colorado to Santa Fe New Mexico! From there I drove it 1200 miles to Kankakee Illinois, where an old friend let me store the bus on his grandfather's storage lot. I kept it in Illinois for awhile while I started my project!

Fixed the busted toilet. Turned on the water it works starts to celebrate look over and now the faucet is leaking. 🤦♂️ it's too dark to go to the store again and start a new project. So I just shut the water off to it and called it a night. Still love this schooling life though 🚌 ❤️

Musician Couple builds Beautiful Tiny Home Skoolie - 3rd Reno wows!
Meet Shane & Emily, who turned a school bus into a tiny home that doubles as a tour bus for their band Arbour Season. This was a big upgrade from the RV they lived in prior. But as DIYers with no experience, they struggled to get their bus conversion just right. Their 3rd time renovating was definitely the charm! They now have a beautiful skoolie that works exceptionally for their family of 4.

#imagine building the school with love and sweat and then some corruption destroys it thats crazy#ok so i google it something and apparently is called a skoolie...#talking :0)

You would think laying out a floor plan for such a small space would be relatively easy. But as it turns out, the smaller the space, the more difficult it is.
We're working with less than 250 square feet of living space (closer to 230) and having to decide what is essential, what isn't, and what few luxuries we would like to have is quite the challenge. As with any skoolie or tiny house, this challenges "norms." Our discussion tonight: do we really need a bathroom sink when the kitchen sink is 3 steps away?
It makes you realize how much we take for granted indoor plumbing in general. To have a fixture that serves essentially the same purpose, but for whatever reason, it's become normal to separate them. Think about it this way: a public restroom sink would more often be further away from a toilet than this set up.
The other facet of this is we are working with what we have. Many of the full size skoolie builds seen on social media are vehicles specifically shopped for. Weeks and months go into finding the right vehicle, usually and specifically the largest allowed by DOT. Our bus, though large, is far from the largest. There's a reason the "pusher" buses are so popular for skoolies. Pushers are the flat-front busses, and because longest legal bus length is measured from nose to tail, and pushers stow their engines in the rear (under where most beds are placed) it saves valuable space for living. Because we have an engine in the front, this engine space is not usable living space. This is all to say, we're working with what we got. It's a lot to consider and a lot to work with and a challenge we are ready to meet; even if it means not having a sink in the bathroom.
Oh, and that odd thing by the front door, that's an actual wood stove. Speaking of the few luxuries--we both cherish the vision, idea, and sentiment of curling up on the couch, snowed in, and watching flames crackle as our bus is heated and our memories are made.
