Have zero clue how this came about

I want to teach myself how to draw using fountain pens because they make my autistic heart happy and I thought “oh join some art challenges for accountability and hopefully all the actual cool artist people won’t mind” but…

I think it’s fair to say I was not expecting a wizard octopus clutching a sword and falling? What is even going on here?

Day 3: “Majesty”

I’m sensing a theme of accidentally on topic. I didn’t even think about this when making the prompt list; I was literally searching around my room for prompts, and I saw my Majesty card deck, and that’s how I came up with this prompt. But it just so happens to fall upon my daughter’s birthday, and she’s always been my baby bee (we dressed up as bees together for our first Halloween, and so ever since, we’ve had a bee thing).

I haven’t seen her in over a year due to circumstances involving her abusive and manipulative sperm donor, and as a result of said circumstances, I cannot even wish her a happy birthday. So instead, I drew this in honor of her. She’s now officially older than her big brother ever got to be. It’s a very emotionally fragile day for me.

It’s the last day of August, which means that tomorrow is the very first day of Sketchtember!!! I’m very excited for this challenge, and I really hope lots of you participate.

Wowza, I did not expect to get such a response! Thanks to all who reblogged! I really hope to make a lot of new art buddies during this coming challenge! I also want to say that I appreciate your patience for the official rules. I expected to have them ready sooner, but I was struck by my own arrow and had to do some internal healing. However, I digress. Without further ado, here are the

of Sunny D’s Sketchtember ‘23 Challenge!!

1. Totally tag/@ me so I can see how awesome your work is, and probably follow you!

2. Any medium is allowed (unless you’re trying the super hardcore mode, but those rules will follow these, so you’re good) as long as you drew it! (Ex: digital art and paint are both acceptable, but sculptures should probably stick to Sculptember.

3. Use hashtags #sketchtember23 and/or #23wSunnyD

4. Anyone following me at the end of Sketchtember who has also completed it with me will be considered Official Sketchtember Finalists, and will be offered a chance to compete in an art-off with other Sketchtember Finalists. Third, second, and first place winners will be determined at the end of October (to give everyone a good month to complete their submissions and put all the finishing touches where they go). There will be prizes, those will be announced as September comes to a close and will be mentioned in the official rules for the Sketchtember Finalist Art-Off. You must be following me and have completed the Sketchtember challenge to qualify as a finalist. ♥️

And that’s pretty much it for the official normal rules!

For extra credit, honor, and mostly as a bigger challenge for those who like to push themselves harder, allow me to introduce to you…

Sketchtember 2023: SUPERHARDCOREMODE

Here are the rules for that:

1. Use the same tags mentioned above, though if you wish, you might also use the tag #uhc23wSunnyD to flex a bit & let everyone know that you’re not afraid of a little extra challenge.

2. You must use only BLACK INK and one other color, whichever color you like, but only one, so choose wisely. But it must be done 100% freehand, in ink, on paper, so remember, there are no mistakes in art, just happy accidents. 😬

3. You can combine two or more words to create a scene, however, you can only combine words that you can connect on the chart using a straight line (no bending, winding threads, just one point A to point B line, which is why I have divided the words into 3 columns. So, for example, you could draw 1. & 2. Because they connect by a straight vertical line. Or, you could try combining 1, 11, and 21 because you can tie them all together using straight, non-curving lines. If you really want a challenge, see how many of them you can combine into a single drawing by seeing how many you can connect using simple straight lines.

And I think that’s about it for those rules? Again, I am functioning on sleep fumes, or like the general idea of sleep, which isn’t actually good fuel for a working brain, so if you have any questions about these challenges, or the prizes, or if you cannot read my attempt at legible handwriting, feel free to reach out and I will do my best to respond.
