A couple photos from way back, during this corona fueled lockdown leading to some #waybackwednesday nostalgia. The first is from #verticalurge an old Bay Area #skatezine posted today by @kurt.the.carlson. Hopefully his documentation will lead to more #skatezinewars to expose all of the old gems that were a bit like our version of Instagram... Kinda. This photo is from a big session at Les' ramp in Fremont... Maybe '85? '86? The last is from @gavinhughtroy shot in Arizona back in the day when AZ was a hot 🔥 am contest location for a few years. This might be from the the first contest I went to in AZ - a Mountain Dew sponsored event in...'85 or '86? (maybe their first dip into skateboarding?) where me and Eric Castro made hilarious graffiti on the t-shirts they said we had to wear (an expectation soon retracted). Loving the old skate zines showing up lately. @kurt.the.carlson has a treasure trove of them, like this issue of: #GrimRipperSkateZine by Roger Bridges, from back in '86. Kurt scans in multiple pages that are pretty legible and worth scrolling through for nostalgia if you've ever seen them before, or to discover what you missed back in the #sk80s. I don't know who shot this photo of me, but the issue had a ton of great photos and people like Cab on the cover, and a multi page @todswank interview. --- By the way, if ANYONE finds a copy of a skate zine called #wouldaBeenRadMag let me and @dutchessofyort know because we don't have a copy anymore, and it was our only effort at making a skate zine from back before we found the rest of the skateboarding world and we were just a few guys riding our backyard ramp... More old shit from the garage "museum" (stuff thrown in boxes and forgotten or left in a back corner forever)... My old street 159s that finally cracked through, my brother's old Cab setup. This was basically like my first bought pro setups.. I had an Alan Ollie Gelfand tank board and a Mike McGill which we used to do stuff like paste beer labels slipped off of frosty wet beer bottles onto the board and cut up Santa Cruz stickers to make them say Rasta...
